Cruise out from the city limits along country roads with horizon-wide views, or meander along a section of the Wiradjuri Trail, a scenic loop around our city taking in city sights and suburb heights.

Coolamon on your whey Wander through Coolamon’s heritage main street and explore boutique shops, cafés and museums - just a half hour drive from Wagga Wagga. Visit the historic 1900s Up-to-Date Store with its original fittings and displays. The store is home to the Gullaman, Garth Jones, Mavis Furner and Reg Godde collections. See how firefighting has evolved at the Coolamon Fire Museum, which is home to thousands of firefighting items from all over Australia and the world. When it’s time for lunch indulge in the delights of cafés, bakeries or old-fashioned pubs. Eat in or grab your food to take away and enjoy a picnic in one of the local parks. Before leaving the area be sure to take a short drive to one, or more, of the quaint surrounding towns, choose from Ganmain, Ardlethan or the smaller villages of Marrar, Matong and Beckom.

Located a short half-hour drive from Wagga Wagga along the Canola Trail, Junee is brimming with things to do. Railway buffs will be mesmerised by the largest working railway roundhouse in the southern hemisphere, and if that’s not enough, be sure to take a visit to the Bethungra Rail Spiral, one of only two 360-degree rail spirals of its type in Australia. Whether you’re a true believer or just curious, Australia’s most famous haunted house, the legendary Monte Cristo Homestead, attracts people from across the world. Don’t miss the opportunity to satisfy your sweet tooth at the world-famous Junee Licorice and Chocolate Factory or take in the local history at the Broadway Museum. A short drive out of town and you can explore the natural beauty of Bethungra Dam and Sandy Beach Reserve – both great spots for camping. Cootamundra big hitters Stop by the Heritage Centre, located in a former railway barracks built in 1927, for fascinating local history. Then delve into Australian cricketing history at (Sir Donald) Bradman’s birthplace cottage, which has been lovingly restored and filled with memorabilia. Take a stroll along the Captains Walk in Jubilee Park featuring bust sculptures of Australia Test Cricket captains. Cycle the regions many quiet roads or hike to the top of Pioneer Park for wonderful views. Take a scenic drive passing by some of Australia’s best wheat and canola country and visit the historic villages of Wallendbeen and Stockinbingal.

Gundagai aussie icons An iconic town set against the picturesque Murrumbidgee River. Learn about infamous bushranger Captain Moonlite at The Old Gundagai Gaol and discover more local history at the Gundagai Museum. Stop by the beautiful sculpture honouring Wiradjuri flood heroes Yarri and Jacky Jacky in the main street. Rusconi’s Marble Masterpiece located at the Visitor Information Centre is sure to surprise and delight. The town’s best mate, the Dog on the Tuckerbox, is eight kilometres north of the RV-friendly town. But before you go, don’t miss the opportunity to visit the historic Niagara Café for a tasty bite to eat.

Faithfully restored and furnished in the high Victorian era, the homestead features a wonderful collection of antiques, an extensive carriage collection and a wheelwright’s shop. Known as Australia’s most renowned haunted mansion, commanding panoramic views of the area.

Mount Erin Heritage Centre is a local museum housed in an historical convent, built between 1874-1876. The museum details the work of the Presentation Order of Sisters and their contribution to education in the Riverina.

Getting here + around You don’t have to travel far to find us. Wagga Wagga is about the same distance from Melbourne and Sydney – five hours driving with rest stops. Add to that 2.5 hours from Canberra, the meeting point of the Sturt and Olympic highways, plus we’ve got a great regional airport and we’re on the main train line between the southern east-coast capital cities.
