Nanaimo Sings! Festival 2018 a Choral Extravaganza Excitement is building in the Nanaimo choral community, with eyes on the often gloomy month of February. Why all the buzz? Singers, directors and accompanists are working towards the fourth Nanaimo Sings! Festival, a three day Choral Extravaganza. On February 23 and 24, thirteen local choirs will perform in a series of mini-concerts at St. Paul’s Anglican Church. And on February

25, all will gather at The Port Theatre for a Gala concert, where each choir will perform again individually and as part of a powerful massed choir of 350 voices.

The Festival kicks off on Friday February 23 with concerts at 5:30 and 7:30 pm. On Saturday February 24, the music starts at 2 pm. Eight choirs will perform in four concerts over the afternoon and evening. For details, go to www.nanaimosings.com. The festival Gala concert will be on Sunday February 25 at 7 pm at The Port Theatre. Each choir will do a short performance and the concert will culminate in all choirs singing together. Three hundred and fifty voices strong, the massed choir will sing five songs, accompanied by a variety of talented local instrumentalists. Nanaimo Sings! is delighted to once again present Willi Zwozdesky as MC and Guest Conductor of the massed choir. Mr. Zwozdesky is a noted Vancouver composer, arranger, director of The Vancouver Men’s Chorus and Executive Director of the BC Choral Federation. Nanaimo Sings! Choral Festival Society is a not-for-profit organization that was formed in 2007 in recognition of the vibrant and richly diverse choral community in the Nanaimo area. It is committed to creating opportunities to celebrate and build community through song. There is a choir in Nanaimo for every musical interest whether it be in singing classical, contemporary, world or barbershop music. Choral singing is a growing worldwide phenomenon, recognized as contributing to the physical and mental health of participants, and Nanaimo is a strong supporter of this wonderful and accessible music format. Festival passes are $15 and are good for any or all six mini-concerts. Admission to a single mini-concert is $10 at the door (cash only). Gala tickets are $20 with reserved seating. Tickets may be purchased at The Port Theatre Box Office, 125 Front St, online at www.porttheatre.com or by phone 250 754 8550.
