f you’re holding this catalogue in your hands, you’re most likely an avid pilot of fine motor vehicles, preferably those with two wheels (although not exclusively). Looking good is important to you, and you appreciate beautiful objects and the finest materials. And so, we’re proud to present a grand tour of the RIDE & SONS universe, through our collections, of course, but also by introducing you to a very special event, the Race of Gentlemen, that takes place every year in June in Wildwood, New Jersey and October in Pismo Beach, California. It’s a different kind of competition, where the most authentic, exceptional, dedicated pilots (and machines) get together, the type of event that perfectly reflects the spirit of RIDE & SONS.
Ride with Pride We couldn’t resist the temptation to introduce you to RIDE & SONS motorcycles, created in collaboration with “Le Garage de Felix”, a crew chief who puts his heart and soul into his work, and is a true master of tools and the soldering iron. But of course, we haven’t forgotten to offer you a complete overview, on paper for now, of our jackets, gloves, leather or canvas pieces, shoes, and accessories. We know that you’ll probably want to try them on for the first time inside a RIDE & SONS shop, before you decide to keep them for good on your next rides. I
t all started one cold night in November, 1947, when 8 young men from Carlsbad, CA came together over coffee at the APEX cafe. It was there that they transformed their dreams of forming a roadster and custom car club into a reality. That evening the Oilers were born and their first president, Jim Nelson, lead the charge. These young men had one common bond; speed! In just a few short months, the membership grew and in mid-1948, Nelson’s passion for
generation of men set out to create a car club/motorcycle club with meaning. After reaching out to Robert Genat, the soon-to-be Oilers were put in touch with the one and only, Jim Nelson, the Oilers founder. During a private meeting in Nelson’s home, the group heard stories first hand as Nelson relived the good ole days. The laughs and tears rolled faster than Nelson’s nitro fueled 1929 Ford roadster on a dry lake bed. An instant bond was formed and Nelson, with no hesitation, passed the torch on, opening a new chapter in the Oilers history.
THE RACE OF GENTLEMEN: A BRIEF HISTORY... racing brought the Oilers members and the Southern California Timing Association (SCTA) together. Nelson’s friend and SCTA founder, Wally Parks, announced his plans to form the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA), in 1949. Nelson stepped up to help and became one of their earlier technical inspectors. The Oilers became heavily involved, forming the San Diego Timimg Association (SDTA) and hosted some of the first NHRA drag racing events as Paradise Mesa. Jim Nelson and his partner, Dode Martin, formed the world famous Dragmasters company. Considered by many to be the inventors of the modern dragster, many of which still campaign today.
A new brotherhood was formed, with a total of 10 hand-picked members spanning from coast to coast with a promise to carry on the legacy that began that early November night. Their collection of automobiles is impressive, to say the least, and their determination to bring back racing as it once was is unwaivering. The Oilers have always shared a common ground; to build machines for speed, endurance and beauty, keeping a time honored sport of competition alive! Living up to the promise made to Nelson, the Oilers’ legacy has continued with true authenticity and pride.
Fast forward to 2008, when a group of young traditional hot rod enthusiasts found a copy of Robert Genat’s book, “The Birth of Hot Rodding, The Story of the Dry Lakes Era.” Rich with stories and color-Kodachrome photographs taken by WWII photographer and founding Oilers member, Don Cox. A new infatuation of automotive history and car club culture was ignited. Tired of boring jacket clubs and parking lot car shows, this new

Story
I
t would seem natural to be passionate about anything on wheels, and to be part of a variety of motor sports, with a name as perfect as RIDE.
But it was behind the handlebars of a motorcycle, and on the flat track circuits that Ralph RIDE would find the finest expression of his talent, in the early Seventies,
FAMILY BUSINESS. before passing on his riding and gliding skill to his sons. The two brothers naturally upheld their father’s passion for competition. They also carried on the venerable family tradition of making leather products that American carpenters of their era loved, applying this artisanal skill to their favorite type of work. This was how RIDE & SONS came to diversify their business into the production of motorcycle gloves, before developing a wide range that includes jackets, pants, boots, and sportswear.
Though originally from California, it was after giving in to the charms of Daytona, with its famous International Speedway and Bike Week, that brings together thousands of riders every year, that this family of enthusiasts ended up parking their wheels and their bags in Florida, on the Miami side. RIDE & SONS then arrived on the European scene, with an encounter between the RIDE brothers and Antoine FLORIO, a Frenchman who’s crazy about motorsports and is a true lover of beautiful objects. He heads up a flourishing motorcycle accessory distribution company. He didn’t even have to think twice about bringing this brand to Old Europe. Each piece in the RIDE & SONS collection naturally reflects this desire to offer garments that are perfectly designed for riding, without sacrificing their typical vintage look inspired by the American racing world of the 1970’s.
This is equipment that recalls memories of an era when paddocks were heavy with the scent of castor oil, when simplicity and authenticity still meant something.

hat could make more sense, when you want to convey a certain idea of custom culture through a clothing collection, than taking a serious interest in what this culture is all about, in other words, in motorcycles themselves.
BORN IN A GARAGE. From a shared vision of what a custom machine should be, emerged this truly close collaboration between RIDE & SONS and Le Garage de Felix. Several models in R&S’ colors have thus been created, and illustrate the pages of a number of magazines, surprising everyone with their quality and careful finish. Although Flat Track is clearly in the spotlight, as a homage to the aspirations of founding father Ralph RIDE, other styles are also represented, and so, we also find Bobber, Cafe Racer, and other Scrambler creations in the range. These are exceptional machines presented throughout these pages. They naturally combine perfectly with our collections. Finally, you can match your motorcycle to your jacket or boots, and not the other way around‌
