ROYAL PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA The Great Classics Conductor Piano
Christoph König Valerie Tryon
RAVEL Le Tombeau de Couperin GRIEG Piano Concerto TCHAIKOVSKY Symphony No. 5 Ravel’s Le Tombeau de Couperin serves as a colourful curtain-raiser to Grieg’s Piano Concerto, a great war-horse of the repertoire and performed tonight by Valerie Tryon. Modelled on Schumann’s Concerto, the work is coloured by Grieg’s interest in Norwegian folk music, and has even survived the Morecambe and Wise comedy sketch featuring ‘Andrew Preview’! The young Christoph König is already Music Director of two major European orchestras and is sure to add his enthusiasm and charisma on stage as he takes the helm to conduct Tchaikovsky’s wonderful Symphony No. 5. £12 - £31.50.
