HEAD COACH Jim Deere ‘89 9th Season 26th overall (517) 264-3995 jdeere@adrian.edu 52-30 Career Record at Adrian Jim Deere ‘89 is in his ninth season as head coach at Adrian College in 2018, leading the Bulldogs to two Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) championships (2012, ‘14) in the last six seasons and a 52-30 record (.634) since taking the reins in 2010. Deere became the 24th head coach in the history of Adrian College Football on Nov. 15, 2009. He previously served as the defensive coordinator for three years (2007-09) as part of a 24-year coaching career at his alma mater. He and his coaching staff captured the school’s 11th MIAA title in 2014. His 47 wins in sevens seasons is the best start of any coach in team history. Last season, the Bulldogs produced seven All-MIAA performers under Deere including three-time junior standout and all-region defensive end Damon Fuller as well as 11 academic all-conference selections. In 2015, Adrian fashioned a 7-3 overall ledger (4-2 MIAA, T-3rd), ending 2015 with a four-game winning streak. Sophomore all-region running back Emmanuel Stewart headlined eight Bulldogs who made All-MIAA teams, plus Dylan Dunn who earned the conference’s Pete Schmidt Memorial Senior Scholar-Athlete Award. In 2012, the Bulldogs tied the school record with nine wins (9-2) and went unblemished in the MIAA standings with a 6-0 record. Adrian outscored its conference opponents, 147-40, and allowed just four touchdowns including

only one through the air. The Bulldogs ended the regular season ranked 25th in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) NCAA Division III poll and hosted an NCAA playoff game for the first time in school history against Franklin (Ind.) College. Adrian finished the season ranked in the top 25 in Division III in four categories: total defense (7th), scoring defense (10th), pass defense (14th) and rushing defense (25th). Deere’s second season at the helm saw Adrian finish 8-2 overall and 4-2 in the MIAA-lost both games by a combined 17 points. The Bulldogs started the season with a 7-0 record and were ranked as high as 16th nationally by the AFCA. The team’s first win of the season saw Adrian travel to Husson University, setting a school record for points in a 77-7 victory. The Bulldogs led the MIAA in scoring offense (32.5 points per game) and scoring defense (14.2 ppg) in 2011. Deere’s defense was once again stellar by ranking seventh nationally in pass efficiency defense (89.28). The team allowed 124.9 yards per game on the ground and ranked 15th nationally in total defense (263.10 ypg). The aggressive nature of the defense was also highlighted by finishing sixth nationally in tackles for loss per game (8.8). In total, the defensive unit led the MIAA in five different statistical categories. In Deere’s first season, AC featured one of the strongest schedules in school history in 2010 and the Bulldogs went 5-5 overall (4-2 MIAA, T-2nd). Adrian had four first-team AllMIAA players and five more make the second team all-conference. The team ranked second in MIAA total defense (308.2 yards per game), turnover margin (+4) and rushing defense (124.5 ypg). Deere’s first win came on Sep. 11, 2010, with a 40-14 triumph over Defiance College. Deere’s defense also pitched a shutout on Oct. 9 at Olivet (41-0). Deere was a four-year letterman for the Bulldogs who won a MIAA crown in 1988.

ASSISTANT COACHES Keith Uecker 8th Season Offensive Line/ Assistant Head Coach kuecker@adrian.edu (517) 265-5161, x5032 Auburn ‘88

Harry Bailey ‘09 9th Season Offensive Coordinator/ Running Backs Coach hbailey@adrian.edu (517) 265-5161, x5012

Keith Uecker begins his eighth season on the Adrian College coaching staff. He works with the Bulldogs’ offensive line, and added assistant head coach responsibilities in 2016. Last fall, the Adrian O-line paved the way for the most-successful aerial attack in the program’s 100-plus year history. Three Bulldog quarterbacks threw for 2,632 yards to break the previous AC singleseason benchmark of 2,463, set in 2009. As the 2015 run-game coordinator, Uecker saw a record-breaking season by his student-athletes. Sophomore running back Emmanuel Stewart earned All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association First Team accolades for a second time with an all-region performance of 1,487 for a program benchmark. The Bulldogs ended the season ranked 21st in NCAA Division III rushing offense (253.6 yards/game). In 2014, the offense ranked third among MIAA schools in rushing with a 208.1 average while also accumulating a MIAAhigh 28 touchdowns. Uecker coached senior John Rock to a second straight first-team All-MIAA nod and all-region third team selection. Linemen Jordan Simon and Quest Gosnell also garnered all-conference honors. Uecker was an All-American at Auburn in 1981, all-Southeastern Conference standout, four-year starter and senior team captain. Uecker had a 10-year career in the National Football League with the Denver Broncos (1982-84) and Green Bay Packers (1984-91). Prior to Adrian, Uecker recently worked at Ohio State (2009-10) as offensive quality control coach and the United Football League’s Omaha Nighthawks’ offensive line coach (2010). A native of Hollywood, Fla., Uecker has four children: Victoria, Jack, Clayton and Jane.

Harry Bailey begins his ninth season overall at his alma mater, continuing to serve as offensive coordinator and the junior varsity head coach. With Bailey’s offensive play-calling, Adrian enjoyed the best passing season in school history with 2,632 yards in 2016. The 2015 Adrian squad rushed for a school-record 2,541 yards. The Bulldogs also had 3,932 total yards, which nearly broke another single-season record (4,033 in 2005). On Oct. 10, Adrian set a single-game school record with 549 yards rushing in a 50-14 win against Alma. In 2013, Bailey was a co-defensive coordinator who coached MIAA Defensive Player of the Year Deontae Bridgeman and All-MIAA First Team performer Ellis Ewing. During the 2012 season, Bailey helped guide Bridgeman to first-team All-MIAA honors and Hunter Juntunen to the second team. Bailey coached a talented group of linebackers in 2011. Darren Walter was named first-team All-MIAA as a kingpin to a defense that ranked 25th nationally and second in the MIAA in sacks (2.90 per game). The team also ranked sixth nationally and first in the MIAA in tackles for loss per game (8.8). In total, the Adrian defense allowed single-digit points to four teams that season. Bailey is a native of nearby Hudson and was a standout at linebacker for the Bulldogs. He was a four-year letterwinner at Adrian and a two-year starter on one of Division III’s best defenses. He was a captain during his 2008 senior season and was named First Team All-MIAA, when he ranked first in the MIAA with 11.5 tackles for loss among 78 stops. He has a bachelor’s degree in secondary education with an emphasis in social studies and a minor in history.

Adrian captured the 2012 MIAA championship--the first under head coach Jim Deere--by going undefeated at 6-0 in the league and 9-2 overall. The Bulldogs outscored their conference opponents by a whopping 147 to 40 margin. AC received votes in the final top-25 D3football.com national rankings.

The 2014 squad won its second MIAA title in three years, going 5-1 in the league and 8-3 overall. And just like in 2012, Adrian appeared in the NCAA Division III Football Championship. Six Bulldogs made the all-conference first team.
