When it came to decorating our clients’ coastal retreat it made sense to evoke the serene sight and soothing sounds of the nearby Atlantic Ocean. The property where the house is located was once owned by the husband’s
parents. This is now the clients’ dream home. They prompted their decorator to capture the natural beauty of the sea as well as embody the treasured spirit of the past. The wife requested a floral print, specifically a hydrangea pattern, and he asked for a nautical look. They also needed additional seating and felt that the room was a bit sparse to be comfortable for daily living. The decorator transformed her clients’ own sofa and loveseat with a bold lagoon blue and white stripe fabric. A new swivel chair was covered in a lovely blue and cream print with touches of yellow and green that featured the wife’s favorite flower. As a reminder of times past they kept the rustic coffee table that the husband’s father had made many years ago. When the soft, sheer stationary floor length panels were hung the decorator made sure that each panel cleared the glass, thus maintaining the stunning ocean view.
Two high-back slipper chairs upholstered in a lively sailboat print can be part of the conversational grouping or turned for board challenges at the game table. The addition of a much larger area rug with a nautical braid border and yellow accents brings a sea of blue over the hardwood floor.
