The Wright Style July, 2011

Dear Decorating Den fan For the great American designer Frank Lloyd Wright, harmonizing a home with its natural setting was a fundamental tenant. For an outdoor setting today, incorporating existing natural elements with some well chosen products can prove to be a surprisingly economical way to employ Wright's famed "organic" approach. His design tradition continues in the wide variety of outdoor fabrics available, making it possible to coordinate with virtually any natural setting. The durability of wrought iron, resin, and copper furniture and accessories open a world of possibilities, making the creative process a true labor of love, and will bring you and your natural world together for many enjoyable years to come.

Here the homeowners wanted to create a living environment that was closely in concert with the natural surroundings. Their desire to build underground provided an unusual design challenge inside. Furnishings and fabrics were chosen in a neutral but bold earth-centric color scheme. The large expanse of glass received reversible lined draperies that provided insulation as well as rhythm and visual interest to their great indoors.
