El 31 de diciembre de 2014 en Barcelona comenzará una de las competiciones de vela más prestigiosas del mundo, la Barcelona World Race. Se trata de una dura regata alrededor del mundo sin escalas, durante la cual un equipo compuesto por 2 tripulantes se encargarán de manejar una embarcación de 18,29 m de eslora. La longitud aproximada del recorrido es de 25.000 millas náuticas. Los veleros partirán Barcelona (enfrente del Hotel W Barcelona). Y se espera la llegada del primer navío en marzo de 2015.
