Spring 2012 Artist-in-Residence

Jason Moran is a pianist, composer, and bandleader who possesses a variety of musical styles to create adventurous, genre-crossing jazz performances. In almost every category that matters – improvisation, composition, group concept, repertoire, technique and experimentation – Moran, and his group the Bandwagon – with bassist Tarus Mateen and drummer Nasheet Waits – have earned the reputation as “the future of jazz.” His recordings as a leader include Soundtrack to Human Motion (1999), The Bandwagon: Live at the Village Vanguard (2003), Artist in Residence (2006), and TEN (2010), among others. The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts appointed Jason Moran artistic adviser for jazz in 2011.
