A Piece From … Our President I would like to welcome you to tonight’s Gala Concert. This year we are once again showcasing our three ensembles in a Gala Concert Series consisting of a separate performance by each ensemble. Tonight’s performance promises to be both enjoyable and entertaining. Resa’s Pieces is very privileged to have our three talented conductors to lead our ensembles. The Concert Band is conducted by Resa Kochberg whose vision created the organization 17 years ago. The String Ensemble is conducted by Ian Medley and the Singers are conducted by Robert Graham. Thank you all for your continued dedication and devotion. I would like to thank the members of Resa's Pieces board for their dedication and contributions to the continued success of the organization. As well, I would like to thank our Executive Director, Ruthie Fishman, for her ongoing dedication and devotion in helping to achieve the vision and goals of the board.

Robert Graham Robert is thrilled to present the 2016 version of Resa's Pieces Singers in this year's Gala! Tonight's concert represents a lot of hard work and commitment on the part of the group.

Reawaken That Talent - Rediscover Making Music

Robert Graham (www.robertgraham.org) is a Toronto-based Canadian/Australian pianist, singer and songwriter. He has worked as a professional pianist, accompanist, vocalist, music director, and vocal/repertoire coach, and has played with many multi-genre ensembles on two continents - including two UK tours with the Canadian roots supergroup "Tanglefoot". He is an award winning songwriter with awards from the Dallas Songwriters Association Song Contest and the Billboard Word Song Contest - among others. His highly eclectic Toronto based band The Fairest and Best (www.thefairestandbest.com) recently released their debut EP which has elicited all - network licensing contracts from The Discovery Channel, FOX Sports and NASCAR as well as fifteen other notable TV programs none of which Robert has ever watched!

06

If you enjoyed tonight's concert, Robert encourages you to consider joining the choir - particularly if you are a tenor or a bass!

CONCERT BAND

Resa Kochberg

Reawaken That Talent - Rediscover Making Music

Growing up, there was nothing else Resa wanted to do but study music. After graduating in 1974 with a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Toronto, Resa taught as a Band Music Specialist for the Scarborough Board of Education until she put teaching on hold to start a family. While raising her three children, she had a “cottage industry” clothing business and taught private piano lessons. For the next eighteen years, she abandoned her flute and piccolo. After those eighteen years, Resa returned to music, teaching for the Toronto District School Board, where she also conducted the Concert Band for Toronto Music Camps and led workshops as a flute specialist. For three years Resa had the privilege of conducting the Toronto East All City Band. Resa currently plays and performs with the North York Concert Band and the Encore Symphonic Band, and conducts a flute ensemble, "The Enchanted Flutes".

14

Resa’s past seventeen years have been one of her greatest joys, as she shares her love of music with all the dedicated members of Resa’s Pieces. Along with conducting Resa’s Pieces Concert Band and sharing in its accomplishments over the years, Resa is delighted that both Resa’s Pieces String Ensemble and Resa's Pieces Singers are flourishing. She also takes pride in the establishment of Resa’s Pieces Symphony Orchestra. Resa was recently honoured with an Urban Hero Award, given to people in the community whose personal efforts and contributions have made significant impact on others. In her spare time, Resa, together with Marshall, are devoted to their six cherished grandchildren.
