Structural steel for home-renovating projects Stronghold Fabrications Pty Ltd stock and supply all steel sections for home-renovating projects from small to large; and specialise in fabricating to meet your exact requirements, install and deliver Sydney-wide. They are conveniently based at Wetherill Park, just moments away from the M7; and draw on their long experience in the industrial and commercial sectors to provide all structural steel services for residential builders, home-renovating projects and DIY home-renovators. Residential structural steel requirements can vary from a basic single beam, to a complex multi-level structure. To ensure every project requirement is fulfilled, Stronghold follows proven project-management procedures from the initial enquiry through to project completion. For material quantities and section sizes, architectural and structural drawings are required. They then review the extent of the structural steel to ascertain the individual project requirements; then raise any questions or cost saving opportunities with each client/customer. Following this they produce a detailed quotation showing a full itemised breakdown of the project-costs. After the client’s acceptance of the quote Stronghold then agrees upon a timetable for the workshop drawings, fabrication and installation where required.
CAD detailing are done by their experienced in house draftsman using Tekla Structures. They then piece together the requirements for both the Architect and Engineer; any conflicting information is dealt with by way of an RFI [request for information], which is directed to the client/customer; who then liaises with the Architect and Engineer to formulate a favourable response. Upon completion of the workshop drawings the draftsman submits a detailed package of these drawings for the Architect and Structural Engineer to review. Following receipt of approvals the draftsman finalizes the “For Construction Drawings” to be issued to Stronghold’s experienced tradesman in their workshop. Procurement of materials; processing of plates and members; and workshop-fabrication then commences. Upon completion the project receives an application of a protective coating: either with Hot Dip Galvanising; shop priming with grey zinc phosphate; or a combination of both. If the project includes installation it is carried out by qualified riggers and onsite welders, sometimes working in conjunction with the carpenters on those occasions where structural steel and timber framing is interconnected. After the structural steel package has been completed it is ready for following Tradies to commence their works.

Budget bathroom-renovation using Raymor products The lavishly patterned floor of this bathroom was the starting point of the renovation, creating a template for the other elements of this relaxing home-spa. The multi-patterned tiles featuring a mix of geometrics in a palette of warm greys, putty and white influenced the choices of fixtures and fittings. German-designed toilet seat for bidet operation Nothing is as thorough, natural and refreshing as cleansing with water; especially after using the toilet. “Shower-toilets” are becoming more popular. In Asia, this facility is already standard in millions of bathrooms; and in the western world an increasing number of people are embracing this level of toilet-cleanliness. However, a discreet and attractive design plays a key role in acceptance. In 2010, German bathroom manufacturer Duravit collaborated with designer Philippe Starck on their SensoWash shower-toilet seat. Duravit has recently enhanced the aesthetics by introducing the SensoWash e with concealed cable and water connections [$3387]. This new design harmonises better with modern bathroom architecture. The technical components have been miniaturised so that the entire technology can fit between the ceramic body of the toilet and the toilet-seat.
This latest version [with concealed connections] can be combined with the Starck 2 [$1378, $2447], Starck 3 [$1045, $1779] and Darling New [$1111] toilet- ranges. Thanks to the plug-in connectors for water and electricity, installation is quite easy. Furthermore, the system is compatible with the wall-mounted elements of many other well-known brands. SensoWash’s bidet function becomes apparent only after opening the toilet lid to look inside. A stainless steel spray arm offers three different types of shower: the Rearwash leaves you feeling clean and fresh. The Comfortwash offers a more attentive wash that cleanses with both the forward and backward movement of the spray arm; or also with a pulsating water jet. While the water jet of the Ladywash is specially tailored to feminine needs, offering gentle cleansing. Water temperature, water volume and nozzle position can each be adjusted and, once saved, are easy to select again. The spray arm and nozzles are cleaned automatically before and after each use. As a preventative measure, both the stainless-steel spray arm and the toilet seat have an antimicrobial coating. The remote control can be used to open the toilet lid: lift lid; lift seat and lid; close lid. The electrically-operated unit opens
and closes automatically at the push of a button. The seat itself is heated; and the temperature can be controlled. After the user sits down the desired wash function is selected by remote control. The arrow keys are used to change the position of the spray arm. Water pressure, seat and water temperature can be individually adjusted using the +/- keys. Personal preferences can be stored in two profiles, which are then simply selected the next time. A special LED night-light provides orientation and safety when it’s dark. In addition, SensoWash e has a child-safety feature to prevent unwanted usage. A sensor in the seat allows the function to be used only when it recognises the weight of a “real” user. Makeover of a bathroom with timber-look tiles A new collection of bathroomware triggered the inspiration for an organic, timeless bathroom that maximises space while bringing a little of the outdoors in. The use of timber-look tiles throughout meant that any fixtures and fittings had to be stylishly simple so as not to clutter the overall space. The focal point of the room is a seemingly “green wall” which is, in fact, a wall mural with just five living plants strategically placed. Portable effluent pumps for septic tank applications Australian Pump has introduced a new cost-effective single-phase submersible pump designed for septic tank applications. Called the UT series, the pump is manufactured by Tsurumi Pump [Japan]. Designed specifically for effluent and sewage applications, the pump is fitted with a clever vortex-style impeller that passes compressible solids up to 35mm in diameter. Maximum flow available is 440 lpm; while maximum lift or vertical head is 12.5 metres. The pumps are powered by single phase, capacitor start, electric motors in the range of 0.4kW to 0.75kW. All pumps are supplied with a heavy duty 10m submersible cable. The pump’s motor is a dry type squirrel cage induction-style housed in a watertight casing. It conforms to class E insulation; and the UT pumps can be used in ambient temperatures of up to 40 degrees C. The motor features an inbuilt thermal motor protection device that reacts to the heat generated by an over current or dry run conditions. This not only cuts off the motor automatically, but also resets by itself. Tsurumi Pump developed the product range in response to requirements in the Japanese market for super-tough pumps for sewage applications. The Tsurumi UT series are available as standard effluent pumps; and also come as automatic stop/start versions that feature a simple float control system that prevents dry running, reduces power consumption and extends operating life. Designer Diego Grandi’s starting point was to bring the normally static bathroom space to life, via an object with strong expressive potential and plenty of scope for dynamism. Signs that your hot water system may need maintenance Most of us tend to ignore our hot water service until it’s too late. Rheem has some key tips to help you identify whether your hot water system is on the way out – or might need some attention. If you have the system checked on a regular basis, you can extend its serviceable- life; improve efficiency; ensure your water heater is operating and performing as designed; and highlight any repairs or preventative-maintenance that should be done. Signs your hot water system might need attention: •
Is the water coming from the tap rusty or brown in colour?

Is the water muddy or does it have sediment in it?
•
Is the hot water system making strange sounds? Some noise from the water heating up is normal, but if you notice cracking or popping noises these should be checked.

Has the pilot light gone out? Does this happen often?
•
Does the hot water have a strange smell or metallic taste?
•
Are you getting less hot water?
•
Is water leaking out of the system?
•
Do you often experience fluctuations in temperature?
•
Does the water pressure or flow rate vary?
•
Are you running out of hot water?
Rheem Service undertakes regular checks of domestic Rheem hot water systems. It offers a range of services including sixmonthly minor maintenance, an annual service and a major five year service. The major service includes replacing the system’s sacrificial anode, temperature and pressure relief valves; checking correct operation of the gas, electric or solar control; and checking solar heat transfer fluid [for solar hot water systems]. Rheem recommends having domestic hot water systems checked around every three years for gas and electric systems, bi-annually for solar systems, or whenever you feel something has changed or you have noticed any warning signs.

Italian-designed collection of modern bathroomware and accessories Italian design house Gessi has released its iSpa bathroomware collection. Italian sculptor and world renowned designer Prospero Rasulo has again collaborated with Gessi, producing a stunning range motivated by the idea of customisation of the modern bathroom. As the name suggests, the iSpa bathroom collection is characterised by a human centric design approach. The ‘i” represents the personality of the owner; and “Spa” represents the complete relaxation and body treatment aided by innovation and technology. 14 Classic ovens from Italy Smeg is celebrating 30 years of its Classic stainless steel oven, designed by renowned Italian architect Guido Canali, with the release of 14 updated models. The new Classic collection includes 60cm, 70cm and 90cm ovens; plus compact and double models; and their innovative Speed Oven. And while the beautifully timeless design remains – clean, simple aesthetics with the iconic “Classic” knob – the new collection is rich with innovative features and functions. Smeg’s clever Thermoseal technology maintains the perfect atmospheric balance in the cavity for optimum cooking conditions. Where moisture is required, for roasts or fish for example, it is retained. There is no guesswork involved – perfect results are achieved every time. Some of the state-of-the-art features offered in this range include: Eclipse high-visibility glass doors [black opaque glass that illuminates and becomes transparent when the appliance is in use]; Smart Sense Plus with 50 automatic cooking programmes; integrated cleaning systems; interchangeable racking that will fit any of the Classic appliances; and soft-close doors. The innovative Speed Oven combines circulating microwave power with traditional convection functions to reduce cooking times – just 25 minutes to cook a whole chicken to golden perfection, for example – while retaining excellent texture, succulence and flavour. The Classic Compact ovens, just 45cm high, are designed to be installed as a bank of appliances to integrate seamlessly with 60cm models in terms of aesthetics and dimensions. The optional full glass door on the Compacts further contributes to the symmetry in a bank of ovens. You can install complementary appliances in a vertical or horizontal configuration; with details such as controls and doors matching and aligning. The choice in compacts comprises: microwave oven with grill; speed oven; dedicated steam oven; combi steam oven with convection; and Thermoseal convection with pyrolytic cleaning. And for those with a love for baking Smeg has recreated the perfect baker’s oven. The Gourmet Cooking Stone fits into the base of the oven to be used to prove and bake bread and pizza as well as bake pastries with light, crispy bases. Combined with the Thermoseal controlled humidity levels bread will be produced with a glorious glossy crust. The five Classic multifunction 60cm ovens range from the standard model with Thermoseal oven technology, eight functions and Vapor Clean; to the fully specified SFPA6395X with benefits such as 10 cooking functions, SmartSense Plus, 10 personal recipes, pyrolytic cleaning, TFT display and soft-close door. In addition there are two double ovens: one regular; and the other with the additional features of TFT interface, SmartSense Plus 50 automatic programmes and pyrolytic cleaning. And to complete the range there are two 70 cm models that provide the same 90-litre capacity as the 90cm models but taking up 20cm less space; and two 90cm models with and without TFT interface, pyrolytic cleaning and 50 automatic programmes.
