Urban Surface, from Amber Tiles, provides stonelook porcelain pavers made for the outdoors that are ideal for the Australian climate. Durable with an average 20-year lifetime, stainresistant and easy-to-clean, these porcelain pavers replicate the natural beauty of stone to enhance courtyards, patios, swimming pools and driveways. Designed to add a stylish look in any home-renovation, the Urban Surface 600mm x 600mm porcelain paver doesn’t require sealing, making them easier to lay. They’re also frost, moss and mould resistant; so cleaning and maintenance is a breeze. Urban Surface pavers are suitable for saltwater pools because they’re salt-safe and have low water absorption [<0.5%]. Their slip-resistance makes them a great choice for steps and pool surrounds; as well as on paths that get substantial traffic. The range comes in 10 natural looking finishes including Silver Quartz, Sand, Sandy Beach and Carbon; and is available from Amber Tiles outlets.

Pre-mixed semiPressed metal panels in lightweight taping a variety of colours and compound for use in hot patterns and dry conditions CSR Gyprock recently launched Easy-Base, a pre-mixed, semi-lightweight taping compound developed especially for use in hot and dry conditions where a plaster base coat is at increased risk of drying out before setting. Offering the convenience and speed of a pre-mixed formulation, Easy-Base is ideal for job sites where water access is limited and enables longer working times and generally less clean-up in comparison to plaster base coats. Easy-Base has been specifically formulated for the first and second coats in a three coat plasterboard jointing system. It can be used to joint over abutting edges of plasterboard sheets and internal and external corners, as well as cover nails or screw heads.

These rustic pressed metal panels from Schots Home Emporium are ideal for period-style home-renovation projects. This exquisitely crafted pressed tin range offers a variety of rustic & old fashioned tin patterns priced at $149 for a set of eleven 30x30x1cm pieces. They come in Antique White, Antique Copper, White on Zinc and Zinc White Wash. Items KA267015AWH; KA267015CO; KA267015WOZ; and KA267015ZWW.

Italian Brave porcelain floor-tile collection New from Italy Amber Tiles’ Brave porcelain tiles collection is a full-bodied porcelain floor tile that evokes the look of natural stone; yet they’re easy-to-lay and maintain; and ideal for the Australian climate. Brave’s surface designs mimic the natural environment so they’re the ideal complement for contemporary architecture. These large-sized stoneware porcelain tiles are strong, durable and characterised by subtle variations in colour and texture from piece to piece for a stylish aesthetic in multiple outdoors settings. Utilising advanced, cutting-edge ceramic technology, Brave Tiles faithfully reproduce five natural stone surfaces with rich veining and chromatic changes, with fragments of other materials included. An en-trend palette, featuring Pearl, Earth, Gypsum, Grey and Coke, allows you to choose the ideal look for your home. The Brave porcelain stoneware collection can help you create a stylish atmosphere within your home’s natural surroundings, including alfresco areas and swimming pool surrounds. The series is available in a variety of sizes and installation patterns including 600x600x10mm and 300x600x10mm with a P5 slip-resistance rating. Brave Tiles are priced from $79.95/m2 [300 x 600 size] from Amber stores.

Muted colours and earthy tones are the new outdoors directions for home-renovations Stark patios and dated landscapes are being replaced with earthy tones, raw and rough luxe, and edgy style, according to Beaumont Tiles. The recent trend to outdoors rooms that flow from inside to out, is witnessing some relaxation in that we’re no longer forcing Mother Nature to conform or bend to our will. Australian home-renovators still value their alfresco areas but design is often about being sympathetic to the outdoors rather than replicating the indoors. According to Beaumont Tiles, three themes encapsulate new outdoors schemes: earth; formation; and raw. Natural design gives a sense of calm, relaxation and focus. Imperfections are now being celebrated in rustic knots and grains of wood; and the movement within natural stone. Black and charcoals are the new taupes with creams for the outdoors. These hues create visual depth and are ideal for setting off planting. They’re also a safe bet because, being in sync with their greater surrounds, they won’t date. Raw imperfections come into play in stone, timber and exposed brickwork. Concrete-look pavers and timber-look tiles, that wrap you in warmth, are low-maintenance and practical for the outdoors; especially with a slip-rating for safety. For a more retro or nostalgic look, a French-pattern tumbled stone provides a romantic, intimate ambience; while timeworn bricks give a cosy nod to the past. If there’s an existing old feature, now is the time to give it some focus. Exposed brick, concrete, metals and salvaged materials inject personality into any space.

A faster, stronger and all Australian-supplied decking system without nails and screws Laying a conventional timber deck is time consuming, back breaking and requires a good eye. Auswest Timbers has developed a range of Australian-hardwood Swift Decking that makes installing decking a lot easier. A long-lasting alternative, SwiftDeck uses cliprails, specifically-shaped deck boards and a high-strength adhesive to securely fix the boards to the decking sub-structure. The SwiftDeck does away with nails and screws, ensuring no loose or protruding fixings and no entry points for water or rot. Partnering the SwiftDeck mechanisms with the SwiftDeck Australian hardwood deck boards allows a one-stop-shop for all components. The hardwood decking board comprises two differentcoloured finishes: red and blonde. Available primed, pre-oiling the deck boards enhances the natural look and saves time. The prefinished hardwood requires no waiting to clean and finish the deck before using it. There are 8 different prefinished colours ranging from dark pinks to deep reddish browns.

Hand-made Coral terrazzo tiles for floors and walls Inspired by the colours of an ocean reef, the new Coral terrazzo tile from Fibonacci Stone is the first release from Fibonacci’s new boutique series of batch-made terrazzo tiles for residential and commercial use. Each tile is individually made to size; which means they are thinner than many other tiles. Achieving an attractive and realistic spectrum of coral colours was no easy feat. The process involved much experimentation to achieve a balance of orange and pink pigments with accents of white, grey and shell. The new Coral terrazzo tile was created in collaboration with multidisciplinary design practice, Projects of Imagination, whose work includes some of Melbourne’s most celebrated restaurants and hospitality venues, such as Chin Chin, Trunk Golden Fields and Moon Under Water. Coral’s colour spectrum has great versatility; references the natural wonderland of an ocean reef; and is an indication of what can be expected from further boutique batch series. Prices start from $160/m2.

Impressive renovating-ideas with tiled-backdrops from Beaumont Tiles There’s a sure fire way to make a statement during a home-renovation without taking too many design risks and making costly mistakes - and that’s to create an impressive tiled-backdrop. Whether it’s a kitchen splashback, an entrance portico or a stunning bathroom back wall, a tiledbackdrop as the design focus frees you up to play with your décor as the seasons or years change. Beaumont Tiles advise that a fundamental rule of design is to create a dominating feature: a colour; a massive chandelier or pendant light; a painting; a piece of furniture or rug; or a display area. Here are some tips and tricks to create your tiled-backdrop: Repeat a pattern. It’s a design trick that can encapsulate a colour, texture or shape. For example create a backdrop using hexagonal tiles. Repeat the pattern throughout the room in printed cushions, a rug, a lamp base or a vase. Think 3D. One of the fastest growing trends in tiles is 3D shapes. A 3D-backdrop is gorgeous but dominant so pair-back colour and styling through the rest of the room. Mix up your materials. Texture profoundly changes a room’s ambience and offers a 10 • DECEMBER QTR 2016

103_QLD.indd 10

you can update it every few years without the expense of a total re-do. Understated beauty for beginners. An impressive backdrop can support other design elements. Even low key tiled-backdrops provide a beautiful design effect. Low contrast neutral colours are unleashed by using a repeating geometric pattern.

plan-B if you don’t want to go with strong colours. Mix bricks, tiles and stone; and continue different mixed surfaces across the room. Think big. Scale and proportion in itself creates impact. A massive floral arrangement or oversized pendant light draws the eye. A large scale, floor to ceiling, tiledbackdrop will leave visitors gasping.

Tremendously tactile. With the new 3D-tiles you can use a lot or just a few to add a powerful dimension to a room. Patterns that literally project towards the viewer make a strong impact.

Light it up. Just like art galleries do the same with a tiled-backdrop to create shadow play, depth and drama.

Packs a punch. Creating pattern with contrasting hues can be the most impactful backdrop. You will need to make sure it is not overwhelming by supporting it with subdued elements.

For novices. Start with a kitchen splashback, or a wall that’s not always in full view. Allocating just one small space means

Be brave. Go all out with tiles and tiles combinations that are completely unexpected like digital print graffiti styles.

Inverter split-system airconditioners from $899 to $1999.

Guaranteed leak detection in plumbing installations

Dimplex has just launched a range of inverter split system airconditioners. The iSeries range offers five sizes with outputs from 2.5kW [$899.95] to an impressive 7.8kW [$1,999.95]. Elegant in design, and manufactured for Australian conditions, they offer effective heating and cooling. Clever features include air purification technology for those suffering asthma, allergies, impaired immunity or respiratory ailments. Other features include 10-hour auto poweroff, dehumidifier function, LED display, swing function, accurate thermostat, quiet operation, 24-hour timer and auto restart; and the iSeries comes with a 5-year warranty. The inverter system operates the compressor faster in order to attain the desired temperature quicker in both heating and cooling modes. Dimplex claims it is also cheaper to run compared to a non-inverter option. Prices: 2.5kW $899.95; 3.2kW $999.95; 5kW $1,399.95; 7kW $1,799.95; and 7.8kW $1,999.95.

When it comes to testing for inadvertently unpressed connections for water and compressed air systems, Viega’s innovative Smart Connect-Feature offers a guaranteed method to provide a failsafe solution. Viega incorporates the safety feature on multiple pipe joining systems – both copper and stainless steel. All Viega press fittings offer the clever Smart Connect-Feature. Put simply, the feature means that unpressed fittings automatically leak during the pressure test. Viega explains that, normally, when systems are tested, the pressure applied is static so there are no pressure surges which occur during normal system operation when taps are turned on and off etc. In addition, there is usually a pressure differential between floors – e.g. a five-storey apartment may have a 130kPa pressure difference between the top and bottom floor. This means that inadvertently unpressed fittings may not be readily identified. However, with Viega press fittings, such mishaps are prevented. Viega created the Smart Connect-Feature to make sure these issues don’t occur; and it guarantees that any inadvertently unpressed connectors become visible. If the connection has a leak, a dry leakage test will show a visible pressure decrease over the entire pressure range from 2.2 kPa to 300 kPa. And if the leakage test is carried out with water, this visibly escapes from the unpressed fittings in the pressure range of 100 kPa to 650 kPa. The system allows for a central leakage test of the entire system rather than testing of individual sections.

Old-style pressed metal bedheads Schots Home Emporium has introduced a collection of vintagestyle pressed metal bedheads that are hand-made and finished to replicate an aged appearance. They are ideal for enhancing a period-style home-renovation and decorating project. There are three models priced at $799: KA267048CO, KA267048GM and KA267048WOZ; available in Antique Copper, Gunmetal and White on Zinc; measuring 186x159x7cm.

State-of-the-art roof window developed and made in Australia Australian skylight manufacturer, Atlite Skylights, has developed a state-of-the-art roof window, which it makes in Australia. This new roof window allows home-renovators and businesses to welcome not only natural light but also fresh air into their properties; and is available with three different opening settings: manual; electric; and fixed. Atlite has been working with Swinburne University in Melbourne to ensure that their new product is safe for properties in areas vulnerable to bushfire. Melbourne art deco house extended with architectural brick from Adbri Masonry The renovation and extension of Hoddle House, designed by Freadman White Architects, was awarded the Kevin Borland Masonry Award at the 2016 Think Brick Awards. The Hoddle House project, in Melbourne, was an alteration and addition of an existing 1930s Art Deco brick dwelling. The existing residence contains a bedroom wing; and the rear addition provides new living areas. Externally, the addition offers an impression of solidity, reminiscent of the existing 1930s brick dwelling it is connected to. The winning design utilised Adbri Masonry’s Architectural Brick in the Ebony colour to create a distinctive aesthetic appeal with expert craftsmanship. It was essential that both the existing and new spaces were planned to make efficient use of the old, while achieving greater volume. In the addition, the exterior roof form is hidden from view. It is not until one experiences the internal spaces of the addition that the angular forms of the hip roof appear in the form of dramatically raked ceilings. The dark brick surface of the project is punctured by large pieces of glass, both fixed as pop-out windows; and as sliding doors within wide timber frames. This home-renovation is a fine example of how minimalist building materials such as Architectural Brick can be utilised to achieve stunning aesthetics. DECEMBER QTR 2016 • 13

65cm zoneless induction cooktop French appliances brand De Dietrich recently released their newest induction cooktop: the 65cm Zoneless Chef’s HoriZone Hob in Dark Grey Pearl [$4999]. The hob has Intelligent Touch Controls offering easy-to-read displays, functions and timer controls that are dedicated to each cooking zone: Solo allows the ultimate flexibility of space with the entire surface operating at the same temperature and accommodating up to 5 pans.

FIX & PREVENT LEAKS IN SHOWERS & BALCONIES Simply brush SHOWER PLUG on tiles and grout Makes surface waterrepellent for 10 years. For new and existing tiles.

Duo allows for two independent zoneless areas to operate at two different temperatures and accommodates three pans per zone.

Suitable for use indoors and outdoors.

Trio provides one zoneless area for up to three pans; plus two traditional cooking zones.

Stops mould growing in grout

Quattro gives you the four cooking zones traditionally found on hobs. These De Dietrich induction hobs have fifteen adjustable power levels for all cuisines. Another valuable feature is the Boost function, which allows maximum power to be accessed instantly. This new function allows for water to be boiled and kept at boiling point when cooking foods such as pastas and risottos. The Anti-overheat safety feature limits the temperature in the cooking zone to 300°C. Oil [which catches fire at 320°C] remains at a constant temperature without the risk of igniting. The Automatic Pan Detection safety feature ensures that the hob works only when it detects magnetic cookware on the cooking zone. The surge protection also prevents damage to the electronic circuits on your hobs in the event of a power surge.

Lightweight thermalmass lining board that is installed like standard plasterboard Knauf Australia recently launched their Comfortboard, which provides architects, designers, specifiers and home-renovators with a thin, lightweight thermal mass lining product; and which has the added advantage of the ease of installation that comes with a standard plasterboard product. In addition to providing cost and space saving at the design and build phase of a building, the technology in Comfortboard thermal mass lining board reduces the reliance on heating and cooling.

EXTEND-A-RAIL is a chrome finish rail with rubber cushion ends. It extends between two vertical surfaces and locks in position without screws, glue, etc. The draught through the doorway acts to dry washing overnight. It’s available in size 70-120cm for about $14 at Bunnings and other hardware outlets. Phone (03) 9460 8000 or email info@handihome.com.au for stockist details.

The board, which incorporates Micronal® Phase Change Materials [PCM], helps to increase comfort and reduce energy costs by smoothing out temperature extremes in a room. The PCM in the board is made up of microscopic acrylic polymer balls filled with paraffin wax. As a room heats up the paraffin wax absorbs the heat and turns to a liquid, storing the heat inside the board. When the temperature drops again the paraffin wax solidifies and releases the heat back into the room, helping to maintain a comfortable temperature of around 23ºC.

Country church renovated with Stegbar timber and aluminium windows and doors Seamlessly integrating classic design with contemporary architecture, the spectacularly restored Giacomo Yandoit house is an example of different design aesthetics working in harmony. Located in Yandoit, Victoria, the original building was a church constructed in 1884 by Giacomo Sartori. After falling into disrepair the property was acquired by a local builder and transformed with a major renovation and two-storey building addition adjoining the 1884 structure – resulting in a stunning family home with five-star building performance. The design-brief was on restoring the nave as the focal point of the home, as well as maximising the sweeping views of the rural surroundings. Stegbar Windows helped achieve the desired look and feel. All the windows from the church nave were restored and fitted with custom Stegbar western red cedar window frames, which are naturally resistant to termites, rot and decay. Other eco-features of the renovation included recycled bridge beams used in the main room; sustainable ironbark from drought affected trees covering the majority of the exterior; and a sand filter septic system. In addition to the custom design and sustainable material choice, Stegbar aluminium awning, casement and fixed windows, as well as hinged and sliding doors, were used throughout the rest of the home creating a feeling of space and flooding the home with natural light. The northerly orientation of the daytime living areas, as well as the placement of the large windows on the northern side of the home, allows for the building to utilise passive solar heating in the winter. Not just aesthetically appealing, the home’s windows are double-glazed rated up to 62% better at retaining heat than standard 3mm aluminium framed windows – ideal considering the cold weather conditions of the local area.

J

a

Additionally, the choice of awning, fixed and casement windows throughout the new two-storey wing of the property not just helps keep the home warm during the cold winters, but also adds to the sustainability and energy efficiency of this home-renovation. The awning, fixed and casement windows feature strong sealing sashes, helping the home to stay warm and cosy throughout the cold season. The end result is a stunning property that seamlessly integrates high-quality materials and a modern design sensibility with heritage finishes. 18 • DECEMBER QTR 2016

The grinder utilises a detachable auxiliary handle to make your job easier; and effortlessly switch between left and right hand to guide the grinder where it needs to go; making it more comfortable, safer and efficient. Other features include: tool-free safety guard adjustment; safety ON/OFF slider switch for simpler control; gear-housing made from durable aluminium; 860W of input power; lightweight 2kg body; and an impressive disc rotation of 12,000RPM. The WORX WX710 is available from hardware stores including Home Hardware, Mitre 10 & Stratco.

Makinex recently released their Hose 2 Go: a constantpressure water supply unit developed in Australia for the Building and Home- Renovating Industries as a dust suppression tool and portable water supply. The Hose 2 Go provides a constant flow of water that allows you to supress the dust when cutting, core drilling and grinding concrete; a constant water flow without the use of a pump, battery or electronics. Once filled from a tap it’s ready to go; providing up to 30-minutes of constant flowing water. It weighs less than 20kg when full. With rugged construction and 13.8 litre capacity the Hose 2 Go offers a reliable and easy to use dust suppression tool and portable water supply, which is easy to carry to and from the work site with two carrying positions. It has a gun-attachment for hosing down equipment at the end of the day.

Pressgun for pressing pipe connections Viega recently introduced their new Pressgun Picco with a range of new features. The Germanmade Pressgun Picco is a slimline tool weighing just 2.5kg, which means it’s ideal for pressing pipe connections where space is particularly tight, such as under the ceiling, in pre-wall construction, or in shafts. The ergonomic shape and 180° rotating press head further enhance the ability to comfortably access any position. The Picco has undergone a design update to make it a more practical pressing tool. It has a high-performance lithium-ion battery with very good cold-start function; plus it can be operated with a mains adapter; and it’s suitable for metal connectors between DN15 and DN32. Design changes include: An integrated LED lamp helps illuminate the work environment. Pressing-points are frequently poorly lit in pre-wall, ceiling and floor constructions, so the LED lamp enables safe pressing. The carry case has been designed to provide greater impactresistance and also features compartments for the Picco’s jaws and two slots for the lithium-ion batteries. Improved start trigger, facilitating the starting of the tool. In addition, the Picco needs servicing only after 30,000 pressings; and it deactivates automatically after 32,000 pressings. 20 • DECEMBER QTR 2016

LASER, an Australian-owned electronics company, recently released its Wireless Wi-Fi Adaptor [$99.95]: an easy-to-use device that can transform older speakers into a 21st century Wi-Fi enabled multi-room audio network, without the cost of overhauling your existing Hi-Fi system. Home cinema AV receivers

Timber sliding doors with a lift-mechanism

You can transform your loungeroom into a high performance home cinema with the latest AV receivers from Integra: 7.2 channel network AV receivers - DRX-2 [$1,395], DRX-3 [$1,695] and DRX-4 [$1,995] from Amber Technology. This new range is loaded with advanced audio and visual features such as Dolby Atmos® and DTS:X™ ready technologies. Dolby Atmos® creates object-oriented sounds that can be heard from all directions, including overhead, resulting in 360-degree multidimensional audio. The audio effects also move around the space, creating a lifelike cinema experience at home. Similar to Dolby Atmos®, the DTS:X™ codec delivers object-based audio for a heightened, multidimensional effect. While Dolby Atmos® requires a specific speaker configuration, DTS:X™ creates a lifelike cinematic experience using a broader range of flexible speaker configurations.

Paarhammer has developed a range of Sliding Doors. In addition to a double layer of seals, they feature retractable carriages as part of the German hardware, which allow the door to be sealed airtight to increase energy efficiency. They also allow the door to be stopped in any open position.

Correcting unwanted audio delays, AccuReflex phase-calibration technology ensures all sounds are in sync with other speakers. Combined with AccuEQ Room Calibration, the new AV receivers deliver crystal clear surround performance. Available on the DRX-2 and DRX-3 is the CinemaFILTER™ feature, which restores the correct tonal balance of movie soundtracks. The DRX-4 offers THX® Select2™ Plus certified for theatre reference sound.

Lift-slide doors have a number of carriages recessed into the bottom of the sliding door panel as part of the hardware. These carriages retract with the turn of the handle. Once the handle is turned into a second position, the carriages get let down again and the door stops as the whole weight of the door now sits on the double layer of seals. When the handle is turned into that same position when you close the door, it again sits down onto its seals; a seal at the top and at the back also engages; all ensuring that the door is absolutely draught-free. Draught-free promotes energy-efficiency and soundproofing. These sliding-doors are ideal for high wind situations; and the latest developments in technology allow the threshold to be recessed into the floor for step-free access and a cleaner look.

Hot water heat pump engineered to save energy and water Colourful designer shower columns by ZAAFDesigns of Italy Paco Jaanson recently added to their bathroom-products collection the latest Colour Design Shower Column [$4400] by Italian industrial designers ZAAFDesigns. These shower columns exude vibrancy and sophistication, injecting a pop of colour in what can often be mono-chromatic bathroom décor. Stiebel Eltron recently released their new range of hot water heat pump models: the 220-litre capacity WWK 222 and the 302-litre capacity WWK 302. These air-source hot water heat pump systems harvest natural energy to reduce electricity consumption, thereby lowering hot water energy bills and reducing environment-impact. The company estimates that, compared to conventional electric hot water systems, energy consumption for heating water can be reduced by more than 70% by using either of these two new models, both of which are eligible for government rebates. These Stiebel heat pumps have been engineered to work efficiently even at minus temperatures; and a current impressed anode ensures a long life cycle regardless of the water quality. These units employ a simple design to create hot water: A fan draws air through an evaporator. Thermal energy within the air is transferred to a liquid refrigerant causing it to change into a gas. The refrigerant gas is then drawn into a compressor which increases the pressure and, as a result, increases the temperature. A condenser [heat exchanger] then transports gas refrigerant around the outside of the water tank. This heats the water inside the tank and the gaseous refrigerant reverts back into a liquid. The pressure of the refrigerant is reduced as it goes through an expansion valve and returns to the evaporator for the process to start again. Convert 2 sink taps to a single mixer without any plumbing work It is common for old Australian houses to have 2 tap handles on the bathroom basin or kitchen sink. Although it does its job, it can be inconvenient in many ways: having to turn the handles with wet, soapy hands; trying to adjust the right temperature; the waste of water from a leaking tap; and going through regular maintenance to solve this problem. This is why many home-renovators dream of changing their bathroom or kitchen taps to a single mixer system – if only there was a simple way, without doing a pricey full renovation. Of course, mixers can easily be found at any local hardware or plumbing stores. However, most models usually have mixer bodies that are at least 32mm in diameter - meaning they won’t fit into standard 3-hole vanities or kitchen sinks, in which the holes are normally only 25mm wide. It might work out when installing into new configurations; but it often won’t be suitable when transforming your existing 2 taps into a single mixer – unless you are willing to go through complicated costly operations such as cutting a bigger hole in the sink or vanity top. No-one wants to do this! The Quoss Reno Transformer series offers a range of bathroom basin and kitchen mixers which not only solves this problem, but is a retrofit system that can be DIY-installed within 30-minutes. With more than 25 years of providing customized, innovative products to meet the needs and requirements of the Australian lifestyle, Quoss applied a patented technology that combines the

tap holder bolt connection part with the water passage into one. This makes it slim enough to fit into the standard 25mm middle hole of a 3-hole bathroom vanity or kitchen sink, without the need to cut bigger holes in the sink or basin. Quoss basin and kitchen mixers have a WELS 5-star rating, using 5.0 litres/minute, and come with a brass cover plate and stainless steel round caps to cover up the existing holes where the handle taps used to be. Using similar patented fitting technology, wall-mounted kitchen or laundry taps can also be transformed into Quoss single lever mixers. Quoss retrofit mixer systems that don’t require breaking walls, piping, or drilling not only make home-renovations simpler and efficient, but is also a great step forward in sustainable design.

2016-17 range of ILVE built-in ovens priced from $1299 to $5299 During the two years of R&D on their latest built-in oven range, ILVE consulted Europe’s leading architects and designers. Technology is at the forefront of this new range which includes a new feature called “CHEF-assist”. A colour TFT touch-screen offers over 35 pre-set recipe modes enabling you to cook any of those meals perfectly. When it comes to temperature control ILVE’s clever Tangential Ventilation System [TVS] circulates air around the oven to ensure protection of your kitchen cabinetry. This intelligent Tangential fan activates and disengages as and when required, ensuring minimal energy consumption and maximum oven efficiency. And this new range provides more cooking space than its predecessors, achieved by maximising the oven’s internal size. Another feature in the range is the new ULTRA-clean, light grey, nickel-free enamel interior, which is easier to clean. And some models have the new S-MOVE soft-closing door technology that allows you to gently close the oven door with a simple push rather than inadvertently slamming it shut. The glass used in the oven door is thermo-reflective to ensure that a cool front is maintained and cooking temperatures remain consistent. Bio-Safe Glass Enamel is used to make the oven baking trays to ensure that uniformity, quality and cleaning efficiency is achieved. The full-size glass door provides a panoramic view of the oven cavity. Each oven cavity comprises just one piece. It has no joins or welds; so there is nowhere for grease, fat and other cooking residue to hide, allowing for quicker and more thorough cleaning. Additionally, each oven has a removable back panel to provide access to the fan, allowing for cleaning and maintenance. The ILVE built-in range is priced from $1,299 to $5,299. 26 • DECEMBER QTR 2016

Megatreat™ Liquid Stone™ Chemical Developments Pty. Ltd. (Port Stephens, NSW) in 1996 developed a building material that looks, feels and wears exactly like natural stone, yet comes in liquid form, right from a can. Megatreat Liquid Stone is a revolutionary high-quality building material that has all the qualities of natural stone because it’s made with natural stone. Megatreat is a flexible material that will not crack, is super economical, easy to use on any type of horizontal or vertical surface, and can be tinted or textured to a wide range of finishes. The high-grade natural sandstone, terracotta and limestone have a unique combination of stone aggregates and an acrylic-based crosslink polymer. It has been designed for both interior and exterior applications, for vertical and horizontal surfaces, in residential as well as commercial properties. Cover that surface to give a cement rendered look.

Right from the can, with no mixing or measuring, Megatreat can be spread, brushed, bagged, trowelled or sprayed onto almost any surface. For example; pebblecrete, concrete, slate, tiles, brick, wood, plastic, steel, wrought iron, glass, asphalt, fibro, blue board, hardiflex and laminates. For example: walkways, wall, roofs, floors, bench tops, pots, pool surrounds, patios, driveways, ceramics, even styro-foam planters. These products can be coloured using a non-organic pigment or paint tint from your local paint store. These should be stirred in slowly to achieve the best effect. After application, simple finishing techniques can be used to create a wide range of natural stone and masonry results. It can be used in place of wallpaper, paint or panelling. Megatreat can be applied to achieve an effect that looks and feels like real stone.

Features and Benefits Summary: • Looks, feels and wears like natural stone • Lower cost than traditional natural stone and masonry products • Easy to use straight from the can, fast and easy to apply Before

• Original product will not fade • Lifetime warranty because it is extremely durable and crack-resistant • Maximum colour and texture flexibility with high-quality results • Environmentally safe, fire retardant, mould resistant

After There are four types of Megatreat Liquid Stone products:Liquid Sandstone: 3 natural colours Natural, Sydney White and Desert Gold. Also the stock Tinted Charcoal Grey Liquid Terracotta: Real Terracotta Liquid Limestone:White and stock tinted Concrete Grey Textured Primer Coat: White and Tintable (filler for pebblecrete, rough surfaces and/or joint colour. Megatreat Natural, Satin or Gloss Sealers, are applied once the Liquid Stone is dry (around 24 hours after application). These tried and proven range of sealers are easily applied, wash up in water and have no offensive smells. A slip resistant additive can be mixed in to the Satin and Gloss sealers for pool surrounds, shop floors and bathrooms. The long lasting sealers give up to 5 years protection. All of these products have been thoroughly tested by C.S.I.R.O. in Australia and Marshall Laboratories in the U.S.A. They passed all tests for flexibility, strength, fire resistance, ultra-violet light, crack resistant and mould resistant. These products are environmentally friendly, and wash up in water. Because of its advanced polymer base Megatreat products can flex with variations of temperature and moisture.

• Around 8,000 Litres of Megatreat Liquid Stone has been applied to the “Nemo Ride” at Disneyland Anaheim California. In 1986 our now, ex tiler Director Stephen Rapaport was the first to invent a solution to fix that “Leaking Shower Recess” without the need to remove tiles. The Hitec Shower product was commercialised in 1990 and has been available in some tile stores since then. The Hitec Shower Pack comes complete with Copyright instructions to seal that leaking shower yourself. You also have access to the inventor and manufacturer of the Hitec Product for technical or trade related training and sales. The Hitec Shower Pack retails for around $50 but if it is unavailable in your area it can be purchased direct from the manufacturer for $49.95 inc P&H. The product is also available from Masters Home Improvements and selected tile stores. Make a career or add to your bottom line from selling or using the Hitec Product, many opportunities exist for smart operators and conscientious people for minimal outlay.

Modern fencing products alternative to traditional masonry materials Creating a luxurious outdoors space often becomes the next renovatingproject; yet achieving the luxe look can easily blow the budget. Modular Wall Systems™ offers affordable alternatives to traditional masonry, metal and timber fencing products, which deliver a sophisticated exterior that elegantly frames your home. In one of their recent projects, the home-renovator was simply hoping to smarten up the area by removing an old fence that was half brick/half metal. There were multiple elements to consider. First, the site required a high retaining wall. While the former fence measured the standard 1.8m, a higher, more solid structure was preferred for privacy. Second, there was a need to mitigate the traffic-noise coming from the motorway at the back of the property. The owner was also concerned with the installation timeframe and costs. Reinstalling the brickwork was simply not an option as the cost was prohibitive; but there was a strong desire to recreate the masonry-look. A metal fence would have clashed with other materials onsite; and while a masonry fence would provide a sturdy framework, the project would require footings, engineering drawings and a council DA application. Given the dimensions of the home, a masonry wall would have cost more than $30,000. The acoustic-reduction benefits, quick installation time and significant cost savings provided by Modular Wall Systems™ allowed the owner to achieve the masonry-look. The project took just three days to complete; and cost less than half of a masonry wall. It was supplied, installed and painted for $12,000. In addition to the acoustic benefits, the Modular Wall Systems™ panels helped transform the pool-area into an oasis. The product’s versatility enabled the channelling of concealed wiring for lighting and outdoor speakers.

Foodwall™ Lite Step for low-maintenance homegardening The Foodwall™ Lite Step [from Biofilta, Melbourne] is ideal for the home gardener who wants low-maintenance gardening, high quality plants, minimal water use, and to promote sustainableliving. The stepped-design provides two levels of planting to create a wall effect while enabling easy access to the plants without back strain. The innovative modular design enables connection of Foodwall™ units in up to 10m rows. Taking the guesswork out of how much water to give plants, the system optimally irrigates the soil from the reservoir in each tub for up to two weeks depending on the temperature. The resulting consistent moisture level reduces plant stress and lets them achieve their full potential. A large garden-area can be created by connecting several modules, which can be expanded at any time. • • • • • • • • • •

A simple fix would be to replace them with new FIXA-TAP© Soft Turn© tap valves. These Australian-made copper body tap valves have a rounded design that moulds itself to the tap seat preventing leaks. The long lasting Soft Turn© tap valve has an easy turn on and off making it suitable for families with young children or arthritis sufferers.

Home-renovations achieved with Gyprock’s premium products Set in Blairgowrie, a seaside village south of Melbourne, this single storey property locally referred to as the Karkalla Beach House, was recently built to provide a coastal family retreat. The materials and finishes of the home such as the polished concrete floors, cream and blue/grey coloured accents and textured furniture, are sympathetic with the coastal look. The finished home features a wide hallway connecting each of the living spaces, including all four bedrooms. The spacious master bedroom includes a walk-in wardrobe, plus a private ensuite with double basin. All bedrooms feature floor-to-ceiling storage with handmade lighting and stunning French wall coverings. The sleek concrete floor is present throughout most of the rooms, including the bathroom, creating a consistent theme throughout the house. The 3m ceilings and 3m doors, plus the wide hallway, heighten the feeling of spaciousness. Stunning ceiling detail, with an intricate skylight feature, takes pride of place in the living room, which was achieved using Gyprock’s premium Supaceil plasterboard with Optimised Core technology. The structural principals of Optimised Core technology enable a premium result due to its high levels of strength and flex that allow easy score-and-snap with clean cuts and square edges. Throughout the house, Gyprock Standard 10mm plasterboard was chosen for the walls which were built using a polystyrene product that needed a strong direct stick application for plasterboard. The design and style of the ensuite and bathroom capitalises on the Karkalla Beach Home’s surroundings. The shower and bathroom spaces are tiled with soft turquoise hues highlighted with bronze hardware; and features cream coloured walls with sleek, crisp lines. Wood accents appear subtly throughout the bathrooms through accessories and timber storage benches. The bathrooms create a coastal vibe with the use of natural textures and colours. The bathrooms utilised Gyprock wet area solutions plasterboard product, Aquachek, which is treated to make it moisture-resistant without compromising integrity providing an excellent, stable substrate for ceramic tiles. Springtime interior colour suggestions from Dulux According to Dulux, the colour trends this spring will comprise contrasting shades of blue and green; decadent browns and charcoals; as well as light pink, hot red and crisp white. Inspired by the Retro Remix theme from the 2016 Dulux Colour Trends, “Design Age”, the Dulux spring palette celebrates a revival of the retro movement with a modern twist. Create a fresh and airy look by accessorising a lighter background with brighter pops of colour, or introduce a dramatic look with a darker background then highlight with light and vibrant accessories. To achieve the Retro Remix look on a smaller scale use one or two colours in smaller volumes. To create depth use Dulux Deep Sapphire or Luck as your wall colour and then accessorise with bold and striking hues. Deep Sapphire: A dreamy and deep sea blue/green that is perfect for a casual space or to add an essence of energy and impact. Deep Sapphire is also ideal in a study space as well as a bedroom or even an outdoor room. Rockpool: Bright and refreshing, this bluish green is elegant and will stand out against a backdrop of whites and neutrals. Perfect for casual living spaces or to make an impact in any room. Hot Lips: Vibrant and daring, this striking red will create a dramatic mood. Hot Lips works especially well in entrances, foyers, formal living areas and hallways. Luck: A deep charcoal with a very slight deep brown undertone, this colour can be used in any space within the home to create a dramatic feel with a dark backdrop. Titi Islands: A soft and subtle pink with a slightly muted plum undertone, this colour is quite versatile and can be schemed with many other colours of similar shades or contrasts well with stronger hues. Clay Play: A decadent warm brown with a slightly red undertone, this luxurious brown is perfect for formal spaces as well as rooms you would like to warm up and create a cosy ambience. Scheme with lighter, warmer colours or contrast against warm whites with a pop of brighter colour. Vivid White: This crisp, elegant white is very flexible to scheme alongside any colour either bold or subtle. Perfect for a blank canvas this white is bright and airy. Gyprock’s Ultra-Base 60

Accessory to help mix paints

CSR Gyprock has developed Ultra-Base 60, a premium base coat formulation that delivers both superior strength and advanced mould resistance. Used for the first and second coats in a three-coat plasterboard jointing system, the ultra-low shrinkage composition of Ultra-Base 60, combined with its superior tape adhesion and joint strength, to complete the job. Supplied in a 16kg bag, it can achieve the same level of coverage as a 20kg bag of regular Gyprock Base Coat. The premium lightweight formulation is also a setting compound, not an evaporative drying formula, allowing both coats of the jointing process to be finished in a single day. With a powerful but gentle anti-fungal agent throughout the mix, mould-resistance is provided for the whole joint. Ultra-Base 60 is available in dry powder format, through the Gyprock Trade network, specialist Gyprock distributors, and Bunnings Warehouse nationally.

Eliminate paint strokes and roller marks when using latex paints Maintaining a wet edge while painting is crucial for preventing brush and roller marks. Painting large areas can be difficult to complete before the paint dries. You can eliminate brush strokes and dry edges when painting with latex paints with Dynamic Paintware’s Dyna Flo Extender for Latex Paints & Primers. Eco-friendly and non-toxic the latex extender slows drying time to extend the wet edge. Requiring only 60ml of Dyno Flo Extender per 4 litres of paint, this latex-extender is a nonyellowing additive that evaporates from the applied paint, leaving the paint in its original form. Adding a latex extender allows a professional finish to be completed without rushing.

Taubmans Colour of the Year 2017 is Violet Verbena Taubmans recently introduced its inaugural Taubmans Colour of the Year 2017: Violet Verbena, a greyed-off, moody purple with a chameleonlike presence that allows it to adapt to surrounding environments and complement a variety of décors. When paired with dark neutrals it unveils grey undertones; yet when paired with whites it reads as a purer purple. The colour was selected for its significant presence on the fashion runway; in textiles, technology and automotive; and in commercial-building and home-renovating. Due to the recent surge of interest in navy and indigo moving to purple-based colours is a natural progression. Violet Verbena is an elegant foray into a contemporary purple hue that sits nicely alongside indigo and mixed metal tones such as brass, copper and rose-gold. It’s a modern choice for interiors and furnishings; yet elegant enough to be incorporated into traditional décor. At quarter- or half-strength Violet Verbena is mutable enough to complement most colour schemes; while at full- or double-strength it becomes a feature.

Lighting tips for bathroom-renovations Lighting is an essential component of bathroom-renovation: too bright and it compromises relaxation; too moody and you may miss a spot when shaving or applying makeup. ISM Objects [Melbourne] offer some tips to get your bathroom-lighting right. LIGHT FROM THE SIDE. Whether it’s applying make-up or shaving, it’s essential that you can see what you’re doing. The best way to light your face in the mirror is by having lights on either side rather than a light in the centre of the room or one directly above you. ISM’s HD 2 and HD 3 wall lights create even illumination of your face. The HD2 is a halogen energy-saver lamp inside a clear or frosted spherical glass ball, or a vintage style LED spherical glass ball; while the HD 3 is a spherical LED frosted ball. The wall canopy and shield of both designs come in a choice of black or gold anodised finish; and marine, grey or orange powdercoated finishes. STAY WARM. A bathroom should be lit with a warm light, such as globes of 3000k. KEEP IT SEPARATE. You want to switch on your lights separately: beside the mirror when applying make-up; or softer moody lighting above the bath to create a relaxed atmosphere. ISM’s Ziggy pendant light looks good above the bath. Made from perforated aluminium it features a bold, graphic design based on a deconstructed zigzag that casts a patterned shadow around the room. BE FLEXIBLE. Adjustable lights can also be effective in a bathroom. You can angle them into spaces where you need more light; then direct the light away when you want a softer ambience. ISM’s Loft Wall lamp is designed to provide this kind of flexibility, which swings on a wall-mounted pivot. Constructed from steel and spun metal it features a matt black finish with brass elements.

Polished copper and clear glass pendants

Soft LED filament light bulbs

These gorgeous 30x36cm light shades are made using handblown glass and accordingly bear the individual characteristics of this traditional trade: small air bubbles in the glass; lines from turning the glass as it sets; and other minor imperfections make up the charm of these light fittings. They are available in a variety of finishes and sizes [antique silver, brass, dark bronze and nickel]. This light-fitting must be installed by a qualified electrician. KA264021PCO; Small Felix Pendant; $189 from Schots Home Emporium.

Fat Shack Vintage’s Melbourne warehouse recently received their first shipment of soft LED filament light bulbs. This new innovation offers less carbon footprint, better longevity and intelligently constructed design for interior designers and home-renovators. There are three variants in this new LED Filament collection. Teardrop Spiral LED Filament Bulb 4W 2200K. Teardrop-shaped bulb that features a majestic soft filament coil; its dimmable glow offers many illuminating options; and at 4 watts this LED filament lightbulb consumes less energy yet lasts for up to 20,000 hours, compared to a 25W incandescent light bulb. Available in bayonet and screw. Quad Loop Round LED Filament Bulb 4W 2200K. A smart, versatile soft filament LED light bulb with a clever quad-loop design. Its round construction makes it an ideal companion for industrial-inspired lamps and lighting, thanks to its bayonet or screw-in base options. It produces 160 lumens with an ambient glow, which can be dimmed according to your liking. The Quad Loop Round LED Filament Bulb lasts for 20,000 hours on an average use of 4watts. Teardrop Cross Loop LED Filament 4W 2200K. A classic Edison-inspired soft filament LED light bulb that showcases a nostalgic, 20th century charm. Its amalgamated loop presents a dazzling glimmer when used on its own; or for additional appeal you can install it inside a pendant light. This light bulb bursts with the right radiance upon opening [no need for warm ups]; and can be easily dimmed to create the right mood.

Sous Vide cooking made convenient with Miele

450/407-litres fridges from Panasonic

Miele Australia has made Sous Vide cooking easier with the introduction of their built-in vacuum-sealing drawers, complemented by a Miele steam oven. The Miele’s Vacuum-Sealing Drawer, the likes of which were often regarded as the domain of commercial kitchens, vacuum-pack food ready for the sous vide process in a Miele steam oven. Vacuum-sealed food is also ideal for freezing where it is also protected against freezer burn. And thanks to the vacuum, the food requires less storage space.

Panasonic has released five new refrigerators including a 547 litre French Door model; and their new 450L and 407L BX Series. Panasonic Refrigerators include smart technologies to keep food fresher for longer. Consumers will enjoy Panasonic’s “Prime Fresh” technology, which is a key feature of selected BX Series models. This clever refrigeration technology softly freezes fresh meat and seafood to approximately -3˚C. Since food is only lightly frozen it extends the life of perishable food, whilst maintaining nutrients, flavour and texture. Odours are also minimised; ideal for storing seafood and other strong smelling food. “Prime Fresh” offers food preparation convenience as it’s easy to slice and cook it immediately.

As the latest additions to Miele’s Generation 6000 built-in appliance range, the Miele EVS 6114 and EVS 6214 Vacuum-Sealing Drawers complement 45cm tall Miele steam and steam combination ovens to fit a 60cm recess. The vacuum chamber and controls are discreetly revealed when the drawer is opened. Once food is vacuum-sealed in the Miele drawer, it is ready to transfer to a Miele steam or steam combination oven to be sous vide cooked at low, constant temperatures for an extended time period. The perfect process for meat and seafood dishes, sous vide cooking allows seasonings and marinades to fully develop their flavour profiles while the food’s texture and moisture are maintained. Most Miele steam ovens have their own sous vide operating mode, allowing slow cooking times of up to 10 hours. Miele Vacuum-Sealing Drawers come in two different fascia design finishes: the Miele EVS 6114 in CleanSteel; or the Miele EVS 6214 available in CleanSteel, Obsidian Black, Brilliant White and Mink. Priced at $3999.

The range’s new easy-access, centralised vegetable case ensures produce is stored in optimum conditions thanks to an airtight design. This keeps humidity levels high, up to 91% to prevent produce from drying out. Underneath, the chilled case maintains a temperature of 0˚C to preserve the freshness of chilled foods, without freezing them. It’s perfect for storing meat, fish and dairy products. Panasonic’s ECONAVI technology uses four intelligent sensors to monitor usage patterns, and energy output is then adapted accordingly. It allows your fridge to monitor the level of lighting and temperature in the room; when and how often the fridge doors are opened; and the fridge’s internal temperature. It then analyses and responds to this information to maintain cooling and the most efficient operation of your fridge. Prices: NR-BX46BXSAU 450L Stainless colour finish, $1,999; NR-BX46BVWAU 450L White metal finish, $1,799; NR-BX41BXSAU 407L Stainless colour finish, $1,699; NR-BX41BVWAU 407L White metal finish, $1,399.

Simple DIY improvements to make the best use of your backyard There are many quick fixes by which home-renovators can rejuvenate an unused backyard area. Adbri Masonry brand ambassador and expert landscaper Jason Hodges shares some tips on how to transform underutilised areas: Side yard pathway. There is a shady side to every house. Typically these areas are prone to dampness which inhibits grass from growing; and the area can turn into a mud pit after rain. A featured steppingstone path will not only inject aesthetic appeal but will also ensure muddy laundries are a thing of the past. Use large-format pavers to get the designer-look. For added “wow” factor, lay the pavers offset in a stretcher bond pattern; and fill the voids with decorative stones or greenery. Fire Pit. Backyard fire pits help bring family and friends together during the colder months. For year round functionality use dry-stack blocks like AB Courtyard which are not glued together and can therefore be easily constructed and deconstructed. Herb and vegetable gardens. Outdoors spaces often have large walls or lengths of the boundary fence that are barren and in need of revitalising. Raised garden beds in front of a fence or in the corner of a yard create dimension and can be achieved using retaining-wall blocks like Natural Impressions. Vertical gardens are also a great way to cover up large wall-areas. Water Feature. There are many designs and options for small and large gardens areas. Water features add movement and tranquillity; and provide an idyllic finish to any outdoors retreat. Ponds are a low maintenance feature that can serve as a natural decoration that blends with garden foliage. For a smaller space opt for a bird bath, small fountain, or an Asian-inspired water feature.

Set of 3 vintage iron garden-pots The construction techniques used for these iron garden pots are basic and primitive using lots of hand tools, so that each piece is a little different from the others. No two pieces are the same. There is slight variation in the finishes as this is done manually; while some procedures use natural processes of oxidation. However there is of course a family-look about the entire collection. Some items may develop rust with time as the artisans follow just their primitive techniques for antique reproduction. They come as a set of three: large 29x24x26cm; medium 23x18x21cm; and small 19x14x15cm; KA245014VWH priced at $165 for the set from Schots Home Emporium.

90cm wide downdraught Built-into ceiling extractor concealed rangehood designed for within the benchtop induction cooktops Miele Australia recently introduced its downdraught extractor, the Levantar, for fully-integrated kitchens. Used in tandem with island cooking installations, the Levantar extractor, DA 6890 [$3,999], offers a most viable and effective alternative to a ceiling extractor where this may be impractical or not desirable. When switched off it is almost fully concealed in its base unit. All that remains is a narrow piece of glass trim, which contains a set of controls matching the design of other built-in units of Miele’s Generation 6000 range. When the 90cm wide unit is switched on, a motor-driven canopy rises from the surface of the benchtop. It is fitted with dimmable LEDs to illuminate the cooking area; and it can be used in recirculation or vented mode.

The V-Zug 800mm luxury built-in rangehood [model DHL8, $2699] moves 560m3 of air per hour and has been designed for induction cooktops. Features and benefits include: twin LED lamps providing optimum cooking-zone illumination; 4 power levels; dishwasher-safe grease filter; excellent cooking-vapour capture; stainless steel construction; and can be flued top or rear.

The motor casing can be connected in various positions to the canopy giving a wide range of installation options; and with the addition of the DEXT 6890 conversion kit it is possible to install the motor up to 7m away.

80cm FlexInduction cooktop with automatic pan recognition

A perfect partner for the Levantar is the Miele KM 6381 panoramic induction hob. The three rings on this model almost form a straight line, allowing rising steam and vapours to be captured by the extractor’s edge-extraction panel to the rear. Visually, too, the two 90cm wide built-in units fuse into a single elegant-looking unit.

Quick and easy timber deck maintenance after winter

Bypass loppers from Fiskars

Winter weather conditions and neglect can leave your timberdeck looking less than impressive and at risk of permanent damage. Months of inattention can result in weather-beaten timber, damaged boards and possible build-up of mould and residue on decking surfaces. Cabot’s new Signature Application Range, which makes caring for timber-decks faster, easier and more effective, comprises: Cabot’s Deck Coat with pole [$32.95]. A large swivel-head applicator with universal, interchangeable pole that can be clicked onto the Deck Prep. The applicator is solid in construction for greater control and navigation and has a large lambswool area for maximum coverage. The swivel head allows the applicator to coat on different angles. Cabot’s Deck Prep [$23.95]. This applicator has thick outer bristles for strength and scrubbing capability; a scraper for removing dirt and debris; as well as a squeegee for removing pools of water after cleaning to reduce drying-time. The applicator’s soft inner bristles enable it to hold more liquid. Cabot’s Deck Sleeve [$16.95]. This lambswool replacement Deck Sleeve has a large surface area making it ideal for fast application and greater coverage. Cabot’s Deck Hand [$22.90]. This multi-purpose bucket for deck-preparation and coating features a drainage-tray for removing excess product from the applicator; high sides to prevent spilling and splashing; and an increased capacity of 15-litres.

Loppers are a mainstay within most garden tool sheds for one simple reason - they allow you to make clean cuts on thicker and hard-to-reach branches. Fiskars recently released an improved bypass lopper that tackles those tough jobs with ease: the PowerGear X™ Loppers Bypass. You can effortlessly crunch through branches of up to 55mm in diameter thanks to the clever mechanism. These loppers feature longer handles to maximise leverage; and the blades are made from extra-hard, corrosion-resistant steel to ensure that they stay sharper for longer. There are two sizes: the PowerGear X™ Bypass Small $69.90 for cutting tough green limbs up to 38mm diameter; and the PowerGear X™ Bypass Large $109.90. Both come with a 25-year warranty.

Protecting the public and setting the standard of engineering.

BUILDING OR RENOVATING? MAKE SURE YOU ONLY USE A REGISTERED PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER. QUALIFIED. COMPETENT. EXPERIENCED.

Working in the residential sector as a structural engineer is more challenging than it appears, particularly with housing that is unusual or creative and involves complex forms and geometry. Home owners can be emotive about their homes and this means that it is important to provide engineering services that meet their expectations. On occasions, problems can occur for home owners which may require the services and expert advice of an engineer, such as a report that relates to an insurance claim or a legal dispute. When you hire a registered professional engineer for your residential building needs you can be sure you will receive a high standard of service from an experienced and competent professional.
