MODULE SUBMISSON FORM SUBMISSION DEADLINE:

WEDNESDAY 14TH DECEMBER – 12 – 1pm

Rationale The briefs I have chosen to do cover type and layout, print and packaging, branding and identity and illustration. This is going to allow me to produce a variety of work covering lots of areas some of which are my strengths and some of which will mean me developing on weaker areas of my design skills. I have done this to keep myself as a illustrator and graphic designer so I need to make sure some of my briefs are illustration based. The themes and areas that the projects will be focusing on are music, food, artwork and illustration. Within these individual briefs I am going to be producing a selection of work that will help me build a broad range of final outcomes. BLOG.

Title and Brief Summary – include a short rationale for each brief identifying why you chose it, what was the focus of the brief and how long you spent on it. BRIEF 1

A research based investigation between myself and james flannagan into food deliveries/takeaways with a focus on branding and identity. To build a brand and identity for the Slow Cooker- a food delivery service based in leeds. Adam Hollinsworth is setting up a food delivery business. The food he is serving is going to be cooked and produced by a slow cooker hence the name ‘the slow cooker’. This is a start up business so he has given us full control of the design strategy. We have sat down with him and agreed on a set few things that need to be included. Branding and identity, packaging for product, range ,promotion, distribution. My research consists of looking at other similar businesses as well as any other delivery business. James and myself need to create a brand that is unique and stands out from the other takeaways that deliver to Hyde Park.

BRIEF 2

Another focus is logo design and brand development. This will most likely consist of a logo/icon and a typeface that will be applied to the promotional material and packaging. We will also be looking into type and layout for the menus, brochures , posters ,posters and flyers. This is a print based investigation of art and music with a focus on packaging. Becks celebrated some of today’s most original artists by displaying their creative work on a series of six limited-edition art bottles. In the past becks have collaborated with musicians to create these designs for bottles. So for my six designs I am going to explore the relationship between art and music. This will also include me designing the packaging of the six bottles. This packaging will include promotional material for the six beer bottles. This promotional material will include a double-sided poster about the six bottles and the artwork and the inspiration behind them.

BRIEF 3

A print based investigation of ‘Pretty ugly’ with a focus on illustration. A competition brief to design a range of ‘Pretty ugly’ T-shirt designs. The ‘pretty ugly’ designs could be skewed towards the pretty, the ugly, or varying combinations of both. I chose to design some Pritty Ugly logos/designs that could go onto the shirts. The idea behind the designs was to create a legible design that was considered to Pretty and Ugly at the same time. The Idea for these initial designs was to create a graffiti like image that slightly resembled brush strokes and calligraphy

BRIEF 4

A print based investigation of illustration with a focus on character development. To produce A2 prints for Onoe’s exhibition. Onoe makes songs and music and is also an artist on the side. He is arranging an exhibition of his work and other artists. He has has given me themes and characters that he talks about within his songs. He has asked me to design/re-design these characters through illustrations. One A2 print promotional material for each character. I will be referring back to the song lyrics from all of the songs these characters are from, so as to get a clear understanding of the characters personality and nature. Constant contact and feedback with Onoe will be kept so as to make sure the characters are exactly what he wants. They include‌ A character called funky mouse-which is a cosmic mouse from another realm that loves stealing and generally being mischievous. Some characters from the wizard of Oz. The scarecrow, tin-man and witch

Brief 5.

To design a range of T-shirts for Best vinaage Leeds. Myself and james re-wrote the breif to create some contempary designs.
