Queen Ethelburga’s Collegiate Independent Education Girls & Boys 3 to 19 years Day & Boarding Thorpe Underwood, Yorkshire. Phone: 01423 333 330 Email: info@QE.org Web: www.QE.org

Are we all about academics? No, but were you aware the Daily Telegraph and The Times both rank QE College as the top most academically successful day and boarding school in the North for A*/ A grades at A Level and equivalent results and our Faculty of Queen Ethelburga’s, the third most academically successful co-educational day and boarding school in the North for A*/ A grades at A Level and equivalent results?

Are we all about Sport? No independent school in the North has the equivalent of our £16m Sports Village. A parent said we are now in a league above the rest. See: www.sportsvillageqe.org

Are we all about superb facilities? No, but we have invested over £80m in superb new teaching facilities and resources in the last 8 years - way more than any other independent school in the North.

Are we all about boarding? No, but no one comes close to the quality of our boarding accommodation. The best in the UK. All bedrooms have private bathroom, air-con, TV, phone & mini-kitchen.

Are we all about day pupils? No, but it is interesting to note our day fees are, on average, over 14% less cost than other local independent schools and our bus service covers a very big local area.

Is it all about Scholarships and Awards? No, but then again who else offers over £3m in Scholarships and Awards every year? Even without any form of Scholarship or Award, sending your child to QE could save you between £3,000 and £7,000 in day fees a year, compared to elsewhere.

All of the above are perhaps the reasons why appreciably more parents have chosen QE this year than last year. “ We were looking for our children to change schools. However in the independent sector this has financial implications. Our problems in this regard were solved by the offer of Day or Boarding Awards (our choice) for both children of First Term Free. They moved, are now happy, and doing very well. QE is growing in size because it is run in a refreshing, modern and much better way. There are plenty of day children.”

Enjoy a 6th Form education at QE and pay no fees!.... Day Award up to £25,000, Boarding Award up to £65,000 If your child is predicted; 9 Grade A star GCSE’s they could be entitled to 100% of the fees 8 A star and 1 A Grade GCSE’s worth up to 85% of the fees 7 A star and 2 A Grade GCSE’s worth up to 70% of the fees 6 A star and 3 A Grade GCSE’s worth up to 50% of the fees

FIRST TERM FREE Day or Boarding Worth up to £9,795 Continues for 2014-15 (a) First Term Free for Years N1 to 8 inclusive, or (b) 50% off First Term’s Fees for Years 9, 10, 12. SPECIAL BOARDING AWARDS Worth up to £75,500 Awarded to outstanding, high achieveing students in categories Academic and/or Sport. Awards based on experience and ability, subject to interview and assessment. (Note a 30% award may be given under this scholarship type for our Elite Sport programmes). FAMILY SIBLING AWARDS Day & Boarding Our discounts are bigger than others, if indeed they even offer them. Brothers & sisters - boarders from 12% - 20%, day pupils 10%.

NEW YEAR, NEW HOME If you are planning to move house in 2015, these local developments and businesses are well-equipped to make the transition as straightforward and stress-free as possible.

It’s the start of a new year and, for many, now is the perfect time to move house. This is certainly the case at Jones Homes, as the house builder has welcomed many new visitors to its Woodland Grange development, on Scrooby Road in Harworth. Boasting a selection of beautiful two, three and four bedroom homes, plus a stunning detached show home, Woodland Grange is a highly desirable development. With Help to Buy available, purchasers are able to own a new home for just 80 per cent of the price and only need a five per cent deposit. Qualify for an interest-free government loan of up to 20 per cent of the house price, put down a five per cent deposit and a prestigious Jones Homes property could be yours with a 75 per cent mortgage. Prices start from £116,995. Jayne Swift, sales and marketing director, comments: “There has never been a better time to buy a new build house. From low interest rates and the availability of affordable mortgages to significant stamp duty savings, purchasers are able to buy their dream home for much less. Schemes such as Help to Buy also make it easier and more cost-effective to move.” For more information, ring 01302 751123 (Monday to Friday 10am-5pm and weekends 11am-5pm) or visit www.jones-homes.co.uk.

The Gables The Gables, Doncaster’s newest town centre residential development, has seen a sharp rise in enquiries as lower mortgage rates help attract buyers back to the market. The scheme’s stylish properties are appealing to first-time buyers and downsizers who are attracted to a low-maintenance, new build home.

Sue Newstead, a mortgage consultant for Countrywide Mortgage Services, believes that there has never been a better time to move onto, or up, the property ladder. Sue’s top tips for anyone looking to apply for a mortgage are: 1 Get your finances in order at least three months before starting the application process. Try not to make any extravagant

Open Door Auctions The new year brings new hope for homeowners looking to make a fresh start and climb the property ladder. Marketing property promptly means home owners can benefit from the ‘spring bounce’ when sales traditionally increase. This will be especially true in 2015, according to figures from the Office for National Statistics, which demonstrate the strength of the market. Excluding London and the South East, UK house prices increased by 9.1 per cent in the 12 months to September 2014. Graeme Naish, co-founder of Open Door Auctions, comments: “Winter is typically seen as a bad time of year for the property market, but once January is

purchases. If there are any direct debits you’re thinking of stopping do it now, as everything will need to be accounted for. 2. Speak to an independent mortgage advisor who will be able to tell you about the full range of mortgages available to you. They’ll also have lots of exclusive products from lenders that you can’t get from going to the lender direct. 3 Don’t be scared of schemes set up to help you. Often people assume there are hidden charges or rates when, in fact, they really are there to help buyers. The biggest obstacle when buying a home is saving the deposit but schemes like Help to Buy are there to help overcome this. Six new properties have recently been released off-plan at The Gables, which will be ready to move into in the spring. One bedroom homes are available from £99,950 and two bedroom homes from £129,950. The government-backed Help to Buy equity loan scheme is available, which allows buyers to purchase with just five per cent deposit. underway people start thinking about the year ahead, making decisions and taking positive steps forward.

buyers. February is a great time for people to market their property.” In the first six months of 2014, there was a massive 135 per cent increase in sales by auction compared to the first six months of 2013. Competitive by nature, auctions can drive up the price of a property. Around 75 per cent of properties sold at UK auctions are completed and exchanged within four weeks. In its first two years of business, Open Door Auctions has hosted 20 auctions and sold homes worth more than £30million to local residents.

“Your home can actually be at its most inviting in winter and this can have a very positive and inspiring effect on potential

ES Feature

Get fit for a cause Craig Dowie and Terri Moore are marking milestone birthdays with a difference – taking on two notoriously difficult challenges. Craig Dowie’s Inca Trail challenge It’s not the 26-mile hike to the ancient Inca site of Machu Picchu, the drain on his energy and resources or even the four nights camping (in a tent!) that is worrying the Crown Hotel’s managing director. No, when Craig Dowie takes on the Inca Trail – 4,000m above sea level – he is most concerned about altitude sickness. “It’s the only thing you can’t prepare for,” he says. “If you get sick, you get sick, and there’s nothing you can do about it.” On all other counts, however, he is training hard. Already cutting down on booze and burgers – his two favourite things – he’s taking his health seriously and has even enlisted the help of fitness pros Will Robinson and Alicia Kale at Bawtry Gym. To get him ready for the hike, which starts on 22 April, they have devised a strict fitness plan (or their own form of bullying, as Craig describes it) to build stamina, strip body fat and increase fitness. A mix of circuit training and endurance exercises, the workout is designed to build muscle tone rather than bulk up. “We agreed a five-month deal and I paid up front so training was non-negotiable,” admits Craig. “It’s given me incentive to keep going – I’m a tight Scotsman, after all, so I’ve got to get my money’s worth!” While this is the biggest test of fitness Machu Picchu, Peru

Katey tempts Craig while Alicia and Will try to keep him on track

he’s ever faced, Craig is used to donning his walking boots as he tackled 26 miles of Hadrian’s Wall last summer in eight hours and 15 minutes, raising £1,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support in the process. He’s already signed up to walk Hadrian’s Wall again this summer and is trying to get the Crown’s sales and marketing manager Katey Dent to get involved too. But what has inspired Craig to take on the even tougher challenge of the Inca Trail? “I turned 50 last year and was determined to mark it with something special,” he says.

“We’ve done Florida, the Maldives, Africa and all sorts of other luxurious beach holidays so we started looking for somewhere new. It was my wife Sam’s idea to do the Inca Trail and, before I knew it, she’d been to see Rebecca at Bliss Travel and organised everything!” They’ll be away for 15 days in total, with four or five of those dedicated to the Inca Trail and a four-day Amazon experience thrown in for good measure. Peru’s staple diet of guinea pig is a far cry from the rich hotel food to which Craig is accustomed but being full of protein and apparently a tasty meat, he’s looking forward to trying the unique cuisine. In the meantime, you’ll find Craig down at Bawtry Gym. Now more than half way through his training regime, he has just two months to get fighting fit and brace himself for the unavoidable threat of altitude sickness. And at the end of this once-in-a-lifetime trip, there is one thing of which you can be sure. Craig’s first point of call on his return to Bawtry will undoubtedly be his hotel’s restaurant – for a well-deserved Crown burger, washed down with a chilled pint of Peroni.

Scafell Pike in the Lake District stands at 978m above sea level – Terri will be completing this ascent in the dark!

Terri Moore tackles the Three Peaks More likely to be found sashaying around Bawtry in her high heels than scaling a mountain each Saturday, Eastside’s publishing manager Terri Moore is going way out of her comfort zone to celebrate her 30th birthday this year. On 13 June, she and around 20 of her closest friends – many of whom reach the milestone birthday in 2015 – will take on one of Britain’s toughest walking tests, the Three Peaks Challenge. To complete the notoriously difficult task successfully – and raise as much money as possible for local charity Aurora – Terri must climb the three biggest mountains in the UK – Ben Nevis in Scotland (1,344m), Scafell Pike in the Lake District (978m) and Snowdon in Wales (1,085m) – all within 24 hours. Like Craig, it’s not the walking that is already keeping her awake at night with worry. “It’s the lack of sleep I’m most concerned about,” she admits, “and when I get hungry I’m not a nice person.”

www.regionalmagazine.co.uk

Regular gym sessions to increase her general fitness have been Terri’s key training methods so far and she’s finding the treadmill set to an incline a particularly effective exercise. But, this month, she’s taking things one step further and attempting her first go at Scafell Pike, just to see how harsh conditions can be. She already knows it’s more difficult than she first imagined. “Watching the BBC4 programme on Scafell Pike was a wake up call. I didn’t realise there wasn’t a path! I can’t go on a night out without breaking my ankle so god knows how I’m going to manage this.” The clock begins at 3.30pm on Saturday afternoon when, having travelled up from Doncaster the night before, they begin their ascent up Ben Nevis. Aiming to complete the first mountain by 8.30pm, they’ll then jump in their hired minibus and hopefully arrive at Scafell Pike by 2.30am. “I’m dreading the time in the van,” says

Terri. “Once we’ve done Ben Nevis, there’s no way I’m going to sleep at 8.30pm but then we’ll have to start the next one in the middle of the night!” By 6.30am, their second mountain should be conquered and they then have five hours to drive to Snowdon, where the challenge – if completed by 3.30pm on the Sunday – will have been a success. “I’m already looking forward to a pint of lager afterwards, but I won’t be able to have too many as I’m due back at work at 9am on Monday morning.” So, if you’ve ever wondered just how big a toll this exhaustive challenge takes on a true Doncaster party girl, be sure to pop your head into Eastside’s Bawtry office on 15 June. If only to check that Terri’s ankles are still in tact. To sponsor Terri and donate to Aurora, visit www.mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/3peak2015

The Crown Hotel will be the centre of attention once again as it joins forces with Hallam FM to offer six couples the chance to win an allexpenses wedding, writes Stephanie Burns.

H

allam FM has launched 2015’s most hotly-anticipated competition – that’s right, Win Your Wedding is back and this year it’s bigger and better than

approached us about the Win a Wedding campaign, it was a no brainer! “As an independent hotel, we always try to think of unique ways we can promote the hotel as a leading wedding venue in Yorkshire. Being part of the promotion not only allows us to raise our profile via the Hallam FM listeners, but also allows us to raise some money for the amazing charity that is Cash for Kids. Last time we did something similar we raised £64,000. This is an amazing amount from the generosity of the people of South Yorkshire.”

The winning couple’s perfect day, booked for Sunday 29 March, includes civil ceremony room hire, hibiscus fizz and canapés on arrival, a five-course wedding breakfast with wine, a chilled glass of Prosecco for the toast,

ever. Six couples battle it out to win a dream wedding worth £28,000 – including a luxurious Mediterranean honeymoon cruise worth £2,000 – and all that stands in their way is two weeks of intense fundraising. At the end of the fortnight, whichever couple has raised the most money will walk away with the coveted prize. And where else would Hallam FM choose to both sponsor and host what’s tipped to be the wedding of the year but one of the area’s leading venues – the fabulous four-star Crown Hotel in Bawtry. Always at the forefront of community engagement and raring to get involved with raising money for Hallam FM’s super charity Cash for Kids, The Crown is thrilled to once again lead the way on this fantastic competition. WEDDING “The Crown has a OPEN DAYS long-standing Sunday 1 February & relationship with Hallam Sunday FM and Cash for Kids,” 1 March says the hotel’s sales manager Katey Dent. “When Hallam FM

an evening buffet of steak and Henderson’s Relish pie with chips and mushy peas, overnight accommodation in the honeymoon suite and executive suites for the bride’s and groom’s parents. It’s the full Crown experience, and it doesn’t end there… The hotel will also be working alongside a host of their key partners to help deliver the special day. This includes flowers by Bawtry Flowers, a cake by The Classic & Contemporary Cake Co., a stag do at Doncaster Racecourse, venue styling by White Rose Occasions, DJ Paul of Eyeball Entertainments, live entertainment by Vibe Music, hair styling by The Vanilla Rooms and much, much more. Last year, five couples managed to raise a staggering £64,000 during their week-long fundraising campaign. This year, the sky is the limit for six couples over two weeks – and, who knows, they could even break the £100,000 barrier for this worthwhile cause. Cash for Kids supports children who are ill, deprived or in need of additional support by giving grants to individual children, community groups, special schools, children’s hospices and children’s charities. By responding to the needs of children in local communities, they aspire to enable all children to live life to the full and achieve their individual potential. To whittle down the many online competition applications into just six couples, a shortlist of 20 applicants will come up against a judging panel to prove their enthusiasm, test their creative ability and

show how well they work together as a unit. From 7 February, the final six will then have two weeks to raise more cash than their counterparts. With only 16 days to raise as much as legally possible, each couple will also have their own Everyday Hero page on the Hallam FM website to keep track of their ongoing totals. The winners will be announced on air on Monday 23 February and they’ll then have five weeks to prepare for their big day.

Beyond the double doors, they’ll discover the private twinkle-lit landscaped garden; a magical place to bask in the sun during an outdoor drinks reception, host a barbecue or pose for those all-important photographs. On hand to answer all queries will be the

On Sunday 1 February and Sunday 1 March, the winning couple – and every other bride and groom-to-be in the region – will have the perfect opportunity to see just what makes weddings at The Crown so special. The Wedding Open Days take place at the perfect time of year not only for those involved in the competition, but also for those who got engaged at Christmas or on Valentine’s Day. Between 11am and 4pm, guests will enjoy a guided tour of the hotel’s beautifully refurbished bedrooms and suites and have the chance to see the magnificent Hogarth Suite dressed for a wedding.

dedicated wedding co-ordinators, who oversee every aspect of a Crown wedding and are there to offer help and guidance every step of the way. Head chef Caz, who has more than 30 years’ experience in The Crown kitchen, will also be cooking up a number of items from the wedding brochure so you can taste the fabulous food and see how it is styled on the plate. All of this will be enjoyed with a glass of fizz and a selection of canapés, to the backdrop of live music by the talented violinist Alexandra Parker and Vibe Music. It’s the ideal way to visualise all the elements of your wedding day in one of the region’s most sought after venues – whether you’re in the running to win the once-in-a-lifetime Hallam FM wedding or not. lanning what is going to be one of the best days of your life is so exciting, and it’s got to be just as perfect as the proposal. Fortunately, our region is the dream location for all of your wedding wishes and wants. For 2015 dress trends, expect everything from minimalistic to majestic pieces ranging from simple silhouettes to dramatic, bouffant designs. Be tempted with tulle, organza, silks, cottons, crochet, romantic ruffles, flouncy frills, latte-satins and lots of delicate lace appliqué, while crystal embellishments, baroque beading, hand-sewn touches, pearls and dainty detailing are the ultimate feminine accents. Sweetheart and off-the-shoulder necklines remain effortlessly timeless, while tulle skirts and collars are becoming super popular. When choosing your show-stopping shoes, keep in mind that their height can alter your look dramatically, but remember you will be wearing them for a long time, so try to find an in-between and opt for chic but comfortable. Adding a crystal or embellished belt finishes the look. For the fuller figure, the Sonsie collection by Veromia is designed to highlight the curves of plus-size brides, with exquisite corseting to nip in waists and accentuate full busts and the new collection is stunning. Though most gowns range from £500 to £1,500, the ‘Gowns to Go’ selection of discontinued or ex-showroom dresses priced at £350 or under is perfect for those with less to spend. It is clear that – no matter what your

budget – at Victoria House, you’ll be made to feel special. Far from a ‘sale rail’, the Gowns to Go are carefully selected, in your size and presented to you in the bridal suite, where you can enjoy the same experience as brides who choose from the full price collections. Downstairs, mothers of the bride and groom will be equally impressed with the choice on offer. Outfits by brands such as L’Atelier, Mascara and Veromia have been carefully selected to flatter shapes and disguise imperfections, such as covering up those arms and tummies. Younger customers searching for their perfect prom dress are also well catered for – from sequinned and heavily embellished gowns to elegant more sophisticated styles, the dresses are truly amazing. Prices average £250-£450 and you’re able to reserve your dress with a 50 per cent deposit. A dress for any occasion, the super versatile Eliza & Ethan Multi Wrap dress is

available in more than 20 colours and can be styled more than 22 ways. This one-size-fitsall dress (8 to 18) is a hugely popular addition to Victoria House and is also a favourite among celebrities. You won’t see this anywhere else locally, as Victoria House has exclusivity in not only the Doncaster area, but Sheffield and Rotherham too. With gorgeous accessories and footwear and a signature range of fascinators designed by Charlotte Greaves of Funky Fascinators, you can complete your ensemble for less than you may think. For those wanting a truly bespoke look to their outfit, spare fabric from altered garments can be utilised to ensure the fascinator matches your outfit exactly. At Victoria House, the team understand the importance of wearing something that is pristine for your special occasion and, in this regard, many of the garments are samples that are tried on for fit and then a brand new item is ordered for you. A full alteration service is also available so you are assured that your choice of dress is totally fitted to your proportions where required. So, whatever your next special occasion, why not visit Victoria House to find the outfit of your dreams? You won’t be disappointed. Currying favour Quality ingredients and excellent service make Yash stand out from the crowd when it comes to the nation’s favourite food.

I

f you’re a lover of curry then you’re not alone. The British have long enjoyed food with a sprinkling of spice. But in the past 50 years, we have seen Indian food go from an occasional, exotic treat to a weekend tradition. It has become so entwined in the British national psyche that popping out for a curry at the weekend could now easily be seen as a British trait. We love it so much in fact, that a whole week has been devoted to it – National Curry Week (12-18 October this year, in case you’re interested). But how did this obsession begin? It boasts a history that goes back hundreds of years, but it was in 1809 when Indian migrant Sake Dean Mahomed opened Britain's first

www.regionalmagazine.co.uk

curry establishment, the Hindoostane Coffee House, that really kicked things off. Chicken Tikka Massala was declared Britain’s national dish in 2012 and we are completely spoilt for choice when it comes to selecting a venue to get a curry fix – which begs the question, how do you choose where to go? Of course the quality of food should take precedence, but style and top-notch customer service should also play a part. This is what Shaddi Rahman believed he could bring to Retford so, after many years as a waiter, he opened Yash in 2013. As well as serving fantastic fresh food,Yash gives customers an experience that rivals the region’s top restaurants. The menu has been developed by owner Shaddi and chef Mohibur Rahman, who has had a flair for cookery from a young age. The family-run restaurant offers many of the usual favourites, but also has an impressive selection of fish dishes that you don’t see in many Indian restaurants. Their specialties are exceptionally popular, especially the Macch Ar Bhat, which is a

salmon fillet marinated in a special rich sauce, cooked in the tandoori oven with medium spices and served with plain rice. The lamb shank is another firm favourite. Cooked in a rich medium garlic sauce with kidney beans and coriander it is packed full of flavour. While Yash is big on taste, they also cook with an eye on your health. Shaddie said: “Many of our customers comment on how little oil we use. We try to show people that Indian food does not have to be full of fat.” They also only use the finest quality lamb, chicken, vegetables and spices in the preparation of all their dishes. When you at Yash, it’s not just the food you’ll enjoy, but also a relaxed atmosphere set in the restaurant’s modern, cosy interior and first-class service from professional staff. So next time you have a longing for some Indian food – despite the many choices available – you’ll know that there’s no better choice than Yash. Open seven days a week: Sunday – Thursday 6pm – 11pm Friday and Saturday 6pm – 11.30pm Yash Great North Road, Retford, DN22 8QS Tel: 01777 949013. Collagen Shots An innovative drink packed with goodness means that the secret of beautiful skin comes from within.

D

o you like the idea of achieving firmer, plumper, youngerlooking skin from within? Rejuvenated – now available at Elements MediSpa – has the

answer. The range of supplements is packed with powerful vitamins and minerals and introduces an innovation in the fight against ageing. Leading the way is the Collagen Shot, a unique drink for beautiful skin that combines 10,000mg of marine collagen with hyaluronic acid, acai berry, vitamins and minerals with a natural mild berry flavour to boost the skin’s natural moisturising factor, which is essential in maintaining a healthy radiance. Collagen shots are recommended by beauty and

medical professionals to supplement collagen levels for more youthful skin with a natural glow. “There is a definite improvement in the firmness, suppleness and elasticity of the skin,” says aesthetic specialist Dr Toni Phillips. Completing the hydration and cellular repair process are H3O Hydration and H3O Night Repair. The potent formula of the H3O Hydration drink restores bounce and vitality, banishing tired and sluggish behaviour, with hypotonic minerals, hyaluronic acid and resveratrol. The H3O Night Repair tablets contain astaxanthin – the new marine wonder – with hypotonic hydration, grape seed extract, pine bark, vitamins and minerals for maximum impact. Nourishing while you sleep, it hydrates and carries goodness where it’s most needed. You’ll awake

refreshed and renewed, ready to face the day. Hollyoaks actress Stephanie Waring swears by Rejuvenated’s products. “I really couldn't live without Collagen Shots and H3O Night Repair now, my skin is so much smoother and the texture has improved.” To aid weight loss and show off glowing skin to its full potential, the Be Skinny range is ideal. With eight clinically proven ingredients, the Be Skinny Re-Set capsules harness a potent combination of botanicals, minerals and vitamins to assist metabolism, keep you feeling fuller for Dr Toni Phillips longer and maintain healthier blood sugar levels. In addition, the 100 per cent natural Be Skinny Drink Me protein dietary drink also keeps you feeling fuller for longer and will help you achieve your weight-loss goals. New year, new you

C

hristmas may seem like an all too distant memory but the winter weather shows no signs of letting up and continues to wreak havoc on our skin. At this time of year it is important to pay extra attention to your beauty regime to protect your body from the elements and invest in a little ‘me’ time. If your skin is in need of some TLC or you’re struggling to beat the winter blues, why not visit Doncaster’s newest beauty clinic that offers a range of non-surgical treatments, beauty therapies and pamper packages to cater for your every desire. With 28 years’ experience in the beauty industry, owner Sue Hagan is an experienced and accomplished beauty therapist. She previously owned a beauty salon in Bawtry for 18 years before moving away from the area. However, she missed the beauty industry and her clients so much that she has returned to her hometown and has opened a new salon – Salon 2. Salon 2 is a beauty and nail salon specialising in the latest anti-ageing, non-surgical treatments. Sue’s pride and joy is the incredible CACI Ultimate machine, which can help people of any age and skin type with a variety of skin problems. The award-winning CACI Ultimate machine uses the latest pioneering technologies and has been voted the most effective anti-ageing treatment available. The anti-ageing treatments are advanced facials that focus on

all areas of concern. The ‘wrinkle comb’ applicator combines high frequency and photo stimulation technologies to effectively plump out deep lines and wrinkles – providing a needle-free alternative to collagen injections and other dermal fillers. Eastside’s publishing manager Terri Moore recently tried it out and said she noticed a significant difference after one treatment. CACI has a huge celebrity client list, including Jennifer Lopez, Lisa Snowdon and Cliff Richard. Alternatively, the LED phototherapy treatment is clinically proven to treat acne and scarring so there are relaxing advanced treatments for everyone and every skin type. Other beauty treatments available at Salon 2 include Guinot’s Hydradermie Age Logic, Hydradermie Lift, Aromatic Facial, Beauté Neuve and Liftosome. All Guinot facials have pure active ingredients and plant extracts that help keep skin healthy.

Salon 2 provides a bespoke service that will restore your skin’s glow with instantly visible results. Last year’s Bawtry Fashion Week was a huge success, with the town’s stylish boutiques hosting some innovative events and visitors flocking to indulge in a little retail therapy. Yasmine held a Scarfarama Day, Robinsons hosted an online fashion show and Incognito created three live window scenes at Womacks. Dawn Farnell hosted three fashion shows and shoppers could complete their look at The Vanilla Rooms, which offered lessons on how to do your hair like a celebrity. For the finale, & She Knows… organised a lingerie and swimwear photo shoot on the town’s high street and the after party was hosted by Ziniz. This year, Bawtry Fashion Week will return from Sunday 8 to Saturday 14 March to promote the local high street and support the local economy.

Dedicated followers of fashion A leading Bawtry fashion boutique has found that its social media strategy is the most popular way of engaging with customers. Robinsons of Bawtry has over 10,000 followers on Facebook – one of the highest amounts in the town – which has allowed them to bring their business to life. “We’re delighted to have attracted so many followers and the feedback we get is that they absolutely love the way we keep them up-to-date via our Facebook page,” said James Jones, marketing director. “It gives us the perfect platform to show new stock arrivals, give details of sales and promotions and our plans for the future.” Robinsons’ current label portfolio includes Armani Collezioni, Armani Jeans, Hugo Boss, Jacob Cohen, Jeffery West, True Religion, Michael Kors, Eton, Ralph Lauren, Moschino, Mulberry and Versace.

Restaurant supports healthy eating plans The new year sees many people determined to lose a few pounds, but dining out can be one of the biggest challenges and often thwarts the best of intentions. China Rose has recognised the dilemma this can pose to dieters and diners and has launched a range of dishes aimed at those following the popular Weight Watchers plan. The China Rose team worked with Weight Watchers representatives to create amazing, flavoursome dishes that are recognised by the Weight Watchers ProPoint scheme. The new menu includes minced vegetables with lettuce, chicken with ginger and spring onions, and bean sprouts and broccoli. Most of the meals are categorised as ‘filling and healthy foods’ on the Weight Watchers plan. Weight Watchers leader Debbie Waby said: “To have a night out and still stay in control when following the Weight Watchers plan is so inspiring and I commend China Rose staff for such an innovative and supportive approach.” The new menu will be available on a trial basis until the end of February.
