es, he did it. Well-ensconced in the Chief Minister’s Chair which he reached after arduous 3648 km trek, Jaganmohan Reddy set out to translate his model of governance without wasting time and without resting on his laurels. Like father like son! Soon after taking oath, he signed the very first file increasing the pension for the aged and promised to see all the 9 welfare programmes (Navaratnalu) percolate to the grassroots. Exhibiting a rare political populism, Jagan

appointed 5 Deputy Chief Ministers, one from each community; chose his cabinet team after thoroughly studying pros and cons and shufed the bureaucrats to get the best out of them. Coming to Jagan’s landslide victory, it can only be attributed to his being with the people and being in-know of their problems. Yet, it was ultimately his ability to convince people of his empathy that paid him dividends. The young leader’s charisma cannot be ignored though his detractors may cite the anti-incumbency factor & the voters’ “Let us give a chance to the young man” feel as the major contributing factors to his clean sweep. Anyway, it is not certainly a throne of roses he has ascended and it is going to be a long haul for the new CM because the state lacks financial health. Of course, politically Jagan is in a safe position, enjoying a rapport with both Prime Minister Modi at the Centre and a friendly neighbor KCR. There are many contentious issues between the Telugu states. The bonhomie between the two CMs may help

Hotel Meghalaya

TO SATIATE THOSE

midnight pangs

Mutton Keema Dosa

Yes, this 94-seater restaurant at Asilmetta Junction is perfect for night owls. The menu, though not extensive, is ideal for a quick bite. You can choose from an array of delicious biryanis, South Indian delicacies, Indian curries, cold & hot beverages and desserts. Moreover, their quick and efficient service, usage of only fresh ingredients, adherence to authentic mode of preparation, pocketfriendly rates and ability to dish out delicious meals even after the clock strikes midnight has made this joint a favourite of sorts.

Here are a few must-try dishes:

S

taggering home later than Cinderella, tired and starving? Or craving for comfort food after binge-drinking? Suffering uncontrollable hunger pangs after lights out? Want to devour good food after a late night drive with your gang? Somehow the samosas and nachos you purchased during the movie wasn’t satisfying enough and your stomach is growling non-stop? Well, it’s time to rejoice as now you don’t need to rely anymore on instant noodles, microwave popcorn, and other such unhealthy options. Hotel Meghalaya offers Golden Hour till wee hours of the morning to satiate those late night cravings.

Ever tried dosa with mutton keema? If not, then you are missing out on a lot. Served with hot-piping sambar and four varieties of chutneys, this spicy dish will make you question every dosa you have had before.

Rajulu Chicken Fry An interesting fact- the chicken is marinated overnight to give that ‘mind-blowing’ taste. Yes, this ‘oh-so-spicy’ dish, packed with the goodness of chicken & a fiery mix of spices, is the best midnight treat.

This biryani is not fiery but well-spiced, and with a bit of heat at the end of a mouthful. The rice is aromatic and the meat is tender. Topped with chunks of egg and served with raita and salan, this delicacy is too good to be true.

ome Fri-yay and one can spot 2 ft or 4 ft bamboo stems neatly placed on tables at Kava, the in-house restaurant of Fairfield By Marriott. Curious? Head Chef A.Rupeswara Rao is here to explain his unique initiative to promote Araku’s famed Bongu Kodi (Bamboo Chicken) as the signature dish of the state; a mission he undertook in collaboration with AP Tourism. Still confused? Well…here comes the best part. He urges you to carry it to the counter at Kava’s balcony where you can witness the complete dish being cooked from scratch and then savour it peacefully or gobble it in a jiff or treat your eyes to the mesmerising presentation. The choice is all yours! “Every year, guests from across the globe would inquire about the specialty of AP, and I would suggest they try Bamboo Chicken in Araku. I felt why not serve it here? So to make it popular, I came up with this out-of-the-box presentation. Now one need not travel 115 km to relish this mouth-watering delicacy,” he says. He further adds, “I believe in ‘Go Local, Go Natural, Go Healthy’. So, right from the ingredients to the stem, everything has been procured locally and is of topnotch quality. Bare minimum salt and no oil is used. The fat content from the chicken gets completely drained out, offering a healthy dish to the guest.” He intends to add this culinary delight to the a la carte menu & not a Friday affair.

Quick bite Chunks of country chicken, marinated in a paste of coriander, mint, green chilli, garlic & ginger, is stuffed inside bamboo stem. The opening of the stem is then closed with an aluminum foil to block the steam while the chicken gets gradually cooked on coal fire for 40-50 minutes. The moisture from the bamboo and the smoky avour add that extra freshness to the dish. Garnished with onion rings, coriander and a dash of lime, this ‘oh-so-delicious’ dish entices meat lovers from far and beyond.

irijan Cooperative Corporation Limited (GCC) not only aims to improve livelihood of the tribal community by creating a sustainable market and business opportunities for them based on their culture, knowledge and traditional skills, but also adds value to tribal products, packaging and presenting them in exquisite tribal art. “These communities have some of the finest craftsmen and farmers but are not well-equipped or well-versed when it comes to marketing their produce. They usually get stuck in the vicious net of the middlemen who buy these products at a very low cost and sell them in bigger markets at higher prices, robbing them of the fair price. GCC intends to bring such farmers closer to the global markets to showcase their fresh, pure and organic products,” says T.Baburao Naidu, Vice-Chairman and MD of GCC.

Rao has already written his own incredible success story by building the mammoth Sravan Shipping Services Pvt Ltd. He has been entrusted with the task of handholding the new-born Chamber. But what does the visionary himself say about it? “I am privileged to be given the opportunity to help it out of the teething troubles and initial hiccups. This is the toughest period. We are already recognized for our efforts & endeavours,” he retorts.

Genesis Prior to bifurcation, we had a state board, Federation of Telangana & Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (re-christened as Federation of Telangana & Andhra Pradesh Commerce & Industry after the split). With 90% of the members belonging to Telangana, the body could not meet demands of both the states and we needed a separate state chamber. Besides representing our trade brethren, we advocate government initiatives too. It would take another five years for it to go full throttle. We now have 1000 industries as members in state, out of which 380 are from Visakhapatnam. Initiatives We proactively take part in APEDB programmes that attract investments from abroad. Recently, we had a positive interaction with the teams from Russia and Czechoslovakia. The Australian Trade and Investment Commission team visited the city, evincing interest. Besides showcasing the local skills, we give our youth a glimpse of opportunities available across the globe.

Common issues 1.

2.

3.

4.

5.

Getting funds for trade has become a daunting task after demonetisation. Procuring payment from customers is a protracted process but delay in our clearing dues attracts penalty to the extent of 18%. Our legal system with its inherent aws drags on the cases, leaving tradesmen in the lurch.

We held partnership summits, but lacked follow ups that percolate to 2nd and 3rd rung firms. The new RTI facility, which can be accessed by all and sundry,. Is being used for ulterior motives.

1.

Good infrastructure entices investors. We should welcome them with comfortable ambience and modern facilities. Media can play a crucial role, highlighting the plus points and giving a positive direction.

2.

The improper revenue records system: With no proper revenue records in place and the government claiming land, the investor is left high and dry. He is dragged into petty rows and embroiled in trivia like dealing with authorities and slack bureaucracy.

4.

We don’t have much support from political leaders.

The city is growing but sans a proper infrastructure.

‘No Entry’ timings at industrial parks is an uncalled for norm.

Dearth of proper land banks.

Nobody wants to go to Srikakulam and Vizianagaram because of the activists’ menace. There are protests against projects launched by the opposite parties.

The state is more interested in high-end investments rather than MSMEs, which are the real employment generators.

Local issues

3.

Visakhapatnam, a business hub? Not yet as

I fail to understand how people spend crores in poll drives. Laws must be in accordance with the ground reality & fair to everyone. The wrong-doers go unpunished, & the honest get victimised.

GST We appreciate and support it but the higher bracket is a bit pinching. It was 12% & now it is 18% in service sector. It would be ideal to keep it at 5 to 10%.

It will take at least 10 to 15 years to attract lucrative investments. It will happen only if the political system stops interfering in business activities.

MSMEs We want to develop two/three-tier industries, and at least 75% jobs be reserved for locals. We should focus more on the food processing sector as the government has prioritized the inter-linking of rivers which leads to good agricultural yield which can be exported to all over the globe. Luring elements Smart facilities are needed to attract smart investors. Quite often we find the government pressurising them to set up shop at places like Tirupathi and Vijayawada. Of course, the investor goes where he gets skilled manpower. Efficient domestic and international connectivity is imperative. Nightlife The government should loosen its fist on liquor policy. Why should we stop a foreigner who wants to have a drink on the beach, & is ready to pay for it. This would encourage tourism. Health tourism should develop in a big way for which good hotels, tourist spots and connectivity are required. If these factors are taken care of, Vizag will surely be a hub of software, pharma, tourism firms and SEZs.

SUCCESS STORIES 1.

We took up the issue of plan approval charges as earlier there was no separate industry category in AP. We brought it down to 1/3rd of the cost.

2.

Till now hotels have to undergo fire verification every year. We are asking for a once-in-five year authentication. The file is moving.

3.

We brought down the time period of IT assessments from 2 years to one year, working with national trade bodies.

4.

We conducted study tours to Dubai and hope to take up some more.

5.

Many schools had the issue of PF and ESI. We got it sorted out.

6.

We moot tax sops for hotels that offer good parking facility.

Future plans We are ready to cooperate with anyone in power. We only wish they work out a good balance between welfare & development. I believe in crossing the bridges when we come to them, and take up issues on hand and sort them out. Our aim is to have a good infrastructure, develop satellite colonies with good hospitals, schools and malls. We wish to create a good ambience to attract global investments. We want our country be in the Top Three in economic development and AP in Number One position in the country.

All members pay back in their own individual way to society. I am into various welfare activities and the Chairman of Sneha CSR Sandhya Age Care Foundation. We want to give a hefty donation to ACF and build a permanent place for it. Managing Sravan Shipping & APCCIF I give 80% of my time to my business and the remaining for APCCIF and society. We, businessmen, are all in the same boat. When I am in troubled waters and work out a solution for myself, I know that it can be applied to others too. So I am always ready not only to help but also to guide society for its all round development.

The principal objective is to create conducive environs for commerce, industry and other forms of economic activities. We have had many meets with bureaucrats and ministries to enhance policy and regulatory framework to boost investor confidence. The chamber also articulates over and forwards problems the industry maybe facing to the government. I am happy to inform that our Chambers has not only utilised various opportunities but also faced many challenges to achieve a sustainable growth in the region. We had a lot of interactions with various embassies for the promotions of international trade.

CHAMBERS IS EVOLVING: KRISHNA PRASAD

Inheriting philanthropic genes, Mr.Pydah Krishna Prasad, President and Correspondent of Pydah Group of Educational Institutions, started with 15 staffers and 82 students in a modest two-storey building in nineties. Now it grew into massive educational empire that successfully runs a string of educational institutions including a junior/degree/post-graduate/women/ engineering/ B.Ed. college. The edupreneur is also a renowned distributor for LG products. Despite his busy schedule, Prasad, as the Chairman for Visakhapatnam Zone, plays a pivotal role in nurturing the new born Chambers. He gives a very encouraging report on the Chambers’ progress. The structure ACCCIF is divided into three zones Visakhapatnam (Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Vizag and East Godavari), Central (West Godavari, Krishna and Guntur District) and Rayalaseema (Kadappa, Kurnool,

Anantapur, Chittor and Nellore). We have members from Srikakulam to East Godavari to Rajahmundry. The Chambers acts as a bridge between the government and traders/the industry/ exporters/travelers. It doesn’t advocate or represent individual causes; it represents the entire community, the results of which are useful to the community at large. Membership drive We have 330 members. But we have taken up a lot of activities in Srikakulam and Vizianagaram which are picking up now. We have not yet aggressively penetrated East Godavari. We formed 13 sub committees (members drawn from the same field) with very proactive chairman heading each of them. The heads of sub-committees meet at least four times a year and discuss issues threadbare and mull over the course of action. To my delight, all of them have given very good progress reports and road maps for future progress.

Mr.Sudhir Mulagada, a qualified Mechanical Engineer, earned a MBA degree and worked in construction and infrastructural sectors both overseas and in India before venturing into business. He is the Managing Partner of Aequitas Overseas and actively involved in international trade for the last 8 years and is into exports and imports predominantly dealing in agricultural sector. Hence, he has a grip over innumerable nuances that make any venture viable and successful. Sudhir, now as the Vice-Chairman of AP Chambers of Commerce and Industry Federation, talks of the all-important Chambers.

CHAMBERS FILLED THE VACUUM:

SUDHIR

Filling the vacuum There are quite a few local and city based chambers and associations. Yet, there was a vacuum at the state-level as there was no active chamber, especially after the bifurcation of the state. As a edgling state, the government had many plans and it is up to the

facebook.com/redmagzineofficial

Chambers to apprise the government of the appropriate schemes and the schemes that would benefit the trade. The Chambers has been working very closely with the government and administration in this regard. Benefits Entrepreneurs or businessman are fraught with a number issues pertaining to clearances, regulations and policies. This could be specific to a firm or generic to the field. It would be very difficult for an individual to take up the issue and approach the administration or appeal and follow up with the Government. The Chamber takes up those issues and represents and follows up with the department. There have been quite a few instances where issues were resolved with proper representation and follow up. Also, the Chambers has suggested some policy changes and they were implemented. red | june 2019 | 53

Bestowed with boons of nature and historical sites, Visakhapatnam has always been a lure for the tourist. If given the right boost, it can be a major money-spinner for the state, opines Chairman Tourism Committee of APCCIF, Mr. K.Vijay Mohan. Bharathi Hospital is equipped with the latest ventilators and Dialysis Unit.

harathi Hospital is a silent provider of excellent services spanning the entire gamut of a woman’s, neonate’s and a child’s needs. The singularity rests in a comprehensive package of medical knowledge, skill, experience and track record over three decades. Any keen observer would define Bharathi Hospital as a symbol of dedication, concern and a strong substitute for ‘Mother’s Touch’

Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) and the Acute Medical Care Unit (AMCU) support the emergencies with wonderful results. These units, with very senior nursing staff, have all the required knowledge and skills to support in emergencies.

Equal importance is bestowed to the patient and her family during the course of the treatment.

Menopause Clinic: Bharathi Hospital advocates a blossoming ‘Best Years’ for a woman with the commencement of her forties, offering a selective moment for her to seek menopausal health counselling. This facilitates a proactive approach to neutralise the otherwise spiral of health issues.

Girl Child Clinic: In this era when girls silently accumulate improper health due to unhealthy lifestyle and firmly believing that the health is nurtured from childhood, Bharati Hospital designed the Girl Child Clinic which assesses & counsels children.

With children settled and family issues streamlined, for many ladies, early forties is a period of enjoyment when they can accomplish their dreams and aspirations. This is facilitated with a good knowledge of evolutionary health of the woman

The team of Dr.B.S.Kalyani and Dr.B.RamaVani has been making unstinted efforts to provide relief and happiness to many families. Evolution of the Mother & Child concept has been driven more by customer demand than marketing pull. The differentiating factor for Bharathi Hospital is the dedicated services of the in-house Gynaecologist and Paediatrician. After overseeing nearly 25000 deliveries and equal number of Gynaecological surgeries, Dr Kalyani walks her talk by constantly upgrading herself on Laparoscopic skills and other modern aspects of her profession. Patience, Calmness and a Clinically thorough approach to profession ensured consistent results over the past three decades which are well punctuated with hard work, diligence and extraordinary commitment levels. Skill, tech savvy attitude are blended to offer the best to contemporary society. Technology was inducted into her hospital through an assiduous investment process that took the hospital to a progressively scaling apogee of excellence in the city. This endeavour was clearly evidenced through Dr.Kalyani performing one of the earliest Laparoscopic Hysterectomies ever in Visakhapatnam. As on date nearly a thousand laparoscopic gynaecological surgeries were performed. With a holistic and proactive approach to woman’s health and

Hospital can be credited to have developed the first organised Neonatal Intensive Care(NICU) in Vizag. Today, the discipline has evolved and we now have highly qualified and skilled Neonatologists supporting us. •

Technology plays a major role in this speciality. Bharathi Hospital has one of the best and most affordable ventilators serving the purpose.

Nursing excellance: The true support comes from the Nursing Care that symbolises a ‘Mother’s Touch’. Our nurses have offered such care to nearly 2000 babies. The track record – so far – has been excellent, with a very few negative outcomes.

Success stories Our efforts in NICU met with some spectacular outcomes. Some of them are: a.

A baby born in 26 weeks with a birth weight as low as 700 gms was nurtured for two months before being healthily discharged.

b.

Twins with one Kg and 650 gms birth weight were nurtured to good health and discharged

KALYANI’S DOCTRINE As a 17 year-old lass, Dr. B S Kalyani, OBGYN Specialist, scored a 52nd rank in the Medical Entrance Examination of West Bengal and earned entry into the prestigious Calcutta Medical College. After getting specially trained in the 1000-bed hospital as a Senior Intern, she joined the institute of national repute – The Madras Medical College for her Post Graduation in OBGYN. Her quest for knowledge made her take up the higher challenge of qualifying for the Diplomate of National Boards at a senior age of 43 years. Stating that empathy is the aura of the hospital, she adds, “We have perfected the techniques for key hole surgeries. The record breaking surgery in this context is my extricating a nearly 15 kg Ovarian Cyst from a woman’s body through a 2cm aperture laparoscopically.” Another feather in our cap is the conduction of a natural delivery of a unconscious woman suffering from lung and kidney failure. While our robust German Ventilator was supporting the lung function, the Japanese make Dialysis Unit took care of the failing kidney function and in the interim, the delivery was conducted. ‘ Our team is trained thoroughly to fight such adverse events and are prepared

for any emergency at any point of the day.’ ‘Recently we had a case of ‘Placenta Previa’ where the patient lost near three litres of blood in a short period of 5 mins post caesarean operation with her BP dropping to 40/20. A surgical team was quickly assembled to address the emergency and the patient was nurtured to normality in the subsequent 5 days in our intensive care unit. One of the most important learnings over the years is the need to maintain continuous communication with the family of the patient. Today, communication with patient’s family is a standard operating procedure that our team follows regularly’ ‘Many mothers need to develop early concern about their daughters. We are there to guide. The Girl Child Clinic offers exclusive time for meeting the ParentChild visitors on appointment’

BOON FOR THE NEW BORN: RAMA VANI “‘Ours was the first NICU in Vizag. At a time when there was limited offering to the new born, from Vizag, we reached out to Chennai facilities, learnt and developed our own,” says Dr.B.Rama Vani (sister-in-law of Dr.Kalyani) who leads the Neonatal and Paediatric domains in the Hospital. With a vast experience in pediatric stream, Rama perfectly complements Kalyani in rendering the much needed continuity in child care. The survival of the new born is pivoting on timely intervention in every delivery by the expert in-house Paediatrician. Having obtained UG and PG from the historic Andhra Medical College, Dr. Rama Vani opted for private medical

enterprise over her job in the AP Medical Services. Expert as she is in her stream, she honed her skills further taking specialized training in luminary neonatal centers in Chennai and Kochi. Our commitment to the child’s health transforms the initial interactions into an ongoing relationship that nurtures health rather than fight disease. The success of our diagnosis and treatment is augmented substantially with the wellequipped state of art Clinical Laboratory wherein all equipment ate fully automated to facilitate technician errors. A spectrum of Paediatric Surgeries’ is a major activity in our hospital. Many critical surgeries are performed with the confidence of the back up of our Intensive Care, excellent ventilators and allied technology.’

PROMOTES BIRD WELFARE By V. Sarada takes up a number of measures to protect environment. One of their ongoing projects is distributing bird baths to people and urging them to place them strategically to satiate and save the thirsty birds. Ramesh says, “The bird population is declining worldwide and as many as 1,200 species are facing extinction. The loss of habitat is cited as the major reason for it. Other factors are overhunting, accidental mortality, pollution, predation by pets, oil spills, pesticide use and climate change. It is sad we are losing our treasure of birds.” He adds,“The Hudhud cyclone devastated the city and destroyed ora of the region, depriving birds of their natural habitat. We want to provide them a lifeline by offering clean water. Since then we started placing as many water-filled clay pots as possible at strategic locations. This is one effective way to keep our winged friends alive and ying.

I am happy people are sharing our concern and taking active part in this project. Though it started with involving our family members and staff, many others are joining us.” Ramesh urges people to place the baths to attract birds and click a picture whenever a bird comes to enjoy its drink. artisans from villages for this task. We give them fine mud & they make 50,000 idols. Prior to that, we assign them the task of making bird baths. This way we are achieving a dual objective- saving birds & providing livelihood for the underprivileged artisans,” says Ramesh.

“We have distributed pamphlets and put up hoardings with a clear and loud message- This summer, birds need us. I am doing my bit, what about you? We could even involve a number of children in the project and they are thoroughly enjoying it.” Distributing 50,000 clay idols of Ganesha during the Vinayaka Chavithi, has been an annual ritual for Swathi Promoters. “We rope in

them, undeterred by the risk or failure. Abhishek Dutta’s story is no different. After obtaining his Hotel Management degree from Robert Gordon University, UK, and holding top positions in various star hotels, he started working as the portfolio manager in ICICI Bank Ltd. That was a big move. With immense dedication and determination he efficiently handled the e-commerce trading, launched www.icicidirect.com and also built a strong clientele base in Visakhapatnam.

Later, he oated his financial management company Fast Deal Corporation in collaboration with ICICI to provide services like car, equipment and collateral finance. Introducing luxury cars to the city, he set the record of selling the most Skoda cars. However, at the peak of success, he left it all to explore the world of real estate. Thanks to the creative spark of Chitra Das Lagadapati and Champs Fleur (the oral boutique she founded two years age), this provided a multi-hued razzmatazz of fresh owers. “This festival is reminiscent of the lush tulip fields with Champs Fleur’s touch. It is a picturesque garden. This brings about a wonderful blend of tulips and some locally grown varieties,” said Chitra.

Once I joined the stream, I started thoroughly enjoying it. Gradually, it turned into a passion. I just want to make everyone go about their lives owning a beautiful smile. Dr. Kirti: I grew up in a comfortable middle-class home, where my father had his own business and my mother worked as a bank employee. I was educated in Pune. I have beautiful memories of my formative years. I had a lot of friends to hang around with and we used to have lots of fun. All my vacations were spent in Mangalore, where my grandparents lived. For me too, dentistry was not the ďŹ rst choice. I was actually more inclined towards medicine. However, when I was given a choice between engineer -iing and dentistry, I preferred dentistry. I studied at the KLE Dental College, Belgaum. Life as a student too was good. It gave me an opportunity to understand what I wanted and I excelled in it. College was both fun and hard work.

Professionals turn entrepreneurs Dr. Vikas: My father, as a practising dental surgeon, had started a clinic way back in 1967 with a single dental operatory in a small room in Koti. As a 2nd generation entrepreneurs/ dentists, we expanded the clinic and thus laid the foundation of Gowds Dental Hospital. We aim to turn the institution into a network of clinics all over the twin cities - Banjara Hills, Secunderabad, Narayanaguda, Hitech city and Gachibowli. We envisioned Dr.Gowds Dental Hospital to be a place where the best of dental services and advanced dental care are provided. Today I can proudly say Dr.Gowds Dental Hospital is synonymous with quality dental care. It is recognized as a premium hospital in dental care. Dr. Kirti: I understand my husband’s commitment to taking the existing hospital to the next level. Both personally and professionally I have great faith in him & his vision. With our experience & exposure, we set out on our mission. Thankfully our efforts have paid off. Professional Vs Entrepreneur Dr. Vikas: After visiting USA and Europe, I found that there was a big difference between the care given there and here. I wanted to bridge it by providing our people the access to advanced technology at an affordable price. That is how we set up our brand. Initially, it was a constant and tough juggle between being a professional and an entrepreneur. With a qualified team &

work delegated to experienced doctors and managers, we manage the hospital efficiently. This also gave me time for other activities like participating in workshops or conferences globally and conducting my advanced programmes. Dr. Kirti: We had our share of challenges. Basically, it was in human resources, management and branding. However, we are happy that we have a qualified and supportive team. Meeting the competition Dr.Vikas: Competition is indispensable in every industry. I insist it is good. It helps me to keep myself updated. There is no way we can be complacent. I just cannot think that we have the best treatment. The cutthroat competition motivates us to improve ourselves. Our special effort is to provide affordable and advanced services in a

state. Our efforts turn memories with patients appreciating the new technology and advanced techniques. Dr. Kirti: Competition makes us push ourselves to better and reinvent ourselves. We have all the latest technology and provide genuine treatment. We plan to open branches all over the twin cities so that patients can have easy access to our treatment. Moments to cherish Dr.Vikas: I feel we are given the best compliment every time a patient leaves satisfied. The most memorable of all was that when a young girl of 18 lost all her teeth due to Juvenile Periodontitis (gum disease at a young age). She left school because her friends discovered she was wearing removable dentures. That was the time when I had started permanent teeth fixing or dental implants. I was able to get her smile with a complete teeth set in place. And the smile on her face and the twinkle in her eyes when she finished her treatment and the tears of joy are my Olympic Gold Dr.Kirti: The best compliment to me is the smile on the child’s face that I have treated. And of course, the faith the parents reposed in me and my treatment.

A WELL-DEFINED TEAM AND STRUCTURED DELEGATION OF WORK IS THE KEY TO ORGANIZATIONAL SUCCESS warm and friendly manner. Our main motto is to bridge the gap between dental care and technology that is available in the west and in India. We have been the pioneers in getting dental laser and introducing cosmetic and aesthetic dentistry to both Telugu speaking states Telangana and AP. Also, we are the first to have introduced immediate implant loading and conducting a workshop here in Hyderabad. Our clinics pride in having the 1st Cad Cam in the

Personal sneak peek Dr. Vikas: We met when we were studying in Mangalore. Although we were friends in the beginning but deep down knew that it would be a long-standing partnership both personally and professionally. It is now 13 years of togetherness and two wonderful daughters Trikha (10) Mishka (8). Watching our daughters grow is a total bliss. It has been a beautiful journey so far and is going to remain that way. Keerti is balanced, relaxed and comes with high family values. I am more dynamic and a high-risk taker. We complement each other. She is a classical dancer and singer. She takes up several social welfare activities. Dr. Kirti: Vikas is a dynamic person and shares his knowledge with others. I am lucky and happy to have him in my life. He understands the challenges of a woman and helps me fulfill my personal and professional commitments. Balancing work and life Dr. Vikas: It is very difficult to find a perfect balance of work and life. But we try to do it by going on vacations regularly. Our agship office in Banjara Hills also happens to be our home. So we can keep an eye on our children while attending to our respective tasks. A pampered childhood As I lost my mother at a tender age of 8, I was brought up by my maternal grandparents. My formative years were filled with care, love, and pampering by my grandmother. However, my grandparents ensured that I am well groomed and well educated as well. As a kid, I wanted to become a doctor. But it did not happen. Since my childhood, I have been the decision-maker of our family. In addition to playing a meaty role, I was also the fashion police of my home. Be it any occasion or regular day, be it, friends or family, I used to choose clothes for them. Fortunatly, they all loved my sense of fashion. Marriage turns her into an entrepreneur Post my graduation, I got married to Ravichandra Manne and for 10 years it was all about knowing each other and enjoying our married life. I had a wonderful time with family and friends hovering over me. It was my husband who first pulled me into the business. I started off supporting him in the USA healthcare staffing company, which he had started in Bangalore. Though I was doing well, the inherent creative streak in me was longing for an outlet and something more. Being a woman, I am naturally drawn to jewelry. But I also had a very peculiar interest in styling myself with outfits and jewelry. One of my friends Kishan who noticed this interest in me suggested that I pursue my career as a jeweler, and also encouraged me to study Gemology. Post my course at Gemological Institute of America (GIA), I had

undergone internship at Bangalore under experts like Vijju Bhai and trained with Sunil sir in all the departments to become a jewelry wholesaler. I learned manufacturing, designing, and earned the indepth knowledge of diamonds and their quality at Mumbai. With this foundation, I was sure enough to set up my own brand. This laid the foundation of Radhika Diamonds. The initial days I started my endeavor as a jewelry designer when I was in Bangalore under the brand name Arya. During that time, I was only dealing in wholesale. But as I kept visiting Hyderabad, I realized that there was a

huge market here that remained untapped. Thus, 5 years back, we moved to Hyderabad and I started my retail journey as Radhika Diamonds. I was very sure of what I could do and that I could make an impact. So, setting up the business was not tough. My experience as a wholesaler came handy. With my knowledge backed by the support of my husband, aunt (mom's sister) Laxmi and friends Vasu, Manoj and Rishi, setting up my brand seemed like a cake walk. Now. when I look back, it gives me a WOW feeling.

The house of creativity Radhika Diamonds has an extraordinary collection of jewels. Customized jewelry is our skill. I feel customized jewelry brings out the actual creativity in us, and that is what makes us stand apart from others in the industry. Making the designs that are unique and as per the personality of the wearer is our specialty. We are known for our quality. We ensure that our clients find us worthy for the price that they pay by blending design, quality, and service. The creative process I am a nature lover and my biggest source of inspiration is nature. Therefore, you would see at least one element of nature in my creations. However, when I am designing for the client, I purely focus on the purpose of the piece and the personality of the person who is going to wear it. However, there are times when I do experience creative blocks. I think every creative person experiences it. It is nature that calms my mind and makes me think clearer and better, when ever I face such a block.

TRUST IS WHAT MAKES YOU STAND APART

BE ORIGINAL AND PEOPLE WOULD CHOOSE YOU

Handling competition The jewelry business is the most competitive in the market. You should win the client’s trust. They should completely rely on your judgment and quality. I am happy to say that the clients of Radhika Diamonds are never been disappointed till date. Whenever and whatever may be the requirement, they know that it will be fullfilled here. That is the kind of trust I have earned over time. The social media impact The world has shrunk into the virtual world. Anything and everything is on your fingertips. People now have a thorough knowledge of everything as they can gather information within no time. There is a lot of change in the perception of process of buying, even in the jewelry field. You need to be original & credible. This has forced designers to focus on their skill. Clients expect more as they see a lot of stuff online, so living up to their expectations has become even tougher. Yet, I enjoy it as it pushes me to go beyond my best.

Diamonds are emotions Diamonds or precious stones are bought for an occasion. An occasion is nothing but a memorable moment that one would wish to cherish for life. This is the emotion that runs in my mind when I design for clients. I also get emotionally attached to the design, as the client does. I feel this is the reason why our designs have become popular. We need to be careful while making the jewelry as it relates to our deeper emotions.

desire to start his own business laid the foundation of Optorium Opticals. V.V.Ramana, with a vast experience in the

field of ophthalmology, turned his skill into a brand which is now led by his extremely talented and likeminded son, V.Rakesh Sai. The father and son duo believes in similar core values but they are different when it comes to their approach towards business operations. This deadly combination of experience and modern ideology has helped Optorium make a mark of its own in the optical business. They share their experiences and life in a conversation..

Driven by a vision I did my graduation in Optometry and have 30 years of experience in the field of eyewear and eye care. I came to Hyderabad in 1983, did my optometrist course. Later, I worked with reputed organizations in Mumbai and Hyderabad. Before starting on my own brand, I also worked with organizations like Lawrence and Mayo, Byramji Hospital and others. This experience gave me a chance to learn a lot of things from senior doctors and experienced people. That certainly helped me gain knowledge and confidence to start on my own. Moreover, right from the childhood, I always wanted to be an entrepreneur. An amalgamation of all these thoughts laid the foundation for Optorium Opticals in 2004. Yes, initially the prospects of starting my own

concern did scare me a little but I overcame that fear. I built confidence in my abilities. Besides earning knowledge, I picked up trade threads while I was working with different organizations. Backed by this experience in the optical field, I built a good base of clientele. My entrepreneurial journey has been a roller-coaster ride. In this journey, I met different people who at times made me happy and assured me that I was moving in the right direction. Sometimes people imparted me with valuable lessons. I have always believed that come what may, one should stick to one’s chosen path. True success lies in being

committed, confident and true to what one does. So, establishing Optorium in the twin cities is an achievement I am proud of. Fortunately, we have always been way ahead of others in the field. Optorium is partnered with the world’s most luxurious brands like Cartier, Maybach, Chromehearts, Bentley, Dita, Tonino Lamborghini, Mont Blanc, Porsche design.

I share the credit of expanding Optorium from one to 5 stores in Hyderabad with Gouri who is my partner both in business and life. I am systematic & schedule my day in a way that I make time for everything. Right from my walking to trade meetings to my family time, everything is given importance. I am fond of nature and I am always excited to travel around the world. Rakesh Sai When you have a role model in your father, you tend to follow him. It is only naural Rakesh Sai idolizes his father. Yet, he manages to bring in his style and avour to the business.

FATHER’S TALE

Formative years I hail from a self-made family. My father built his life his way and has always strived to give the best to the family. This has always kept me motivated. I did my under graduation from Jain University Bangalore BBA Marketing. Later, I interned with a couple of firms. I was always keen on joining my father in the family business.

The legacy I designed my goals in a such a way that I could align them with our family trade. I take inputs from my managers, my sister, mom, and friends. I pitch the idea to my dad. Once he approves there is no looking back. I thought it would be an easy run as I was confident of my skills. But once I saw the market, I realized that it is no cake walk. Fortunately, I learnt the nuances rather fast. Making the difference Opportunities can be found in anything we do. I play low but play hard. Moreover, I keep learning and tweaking. Handling competition Luckily, we have managed to successfully swim through competition and have kept our niche. Our impeccable service, clientele, experience in the industry and our partnership with luxurious brands help us do so. Each store we open is a symbol of success.

people, learn new things. I admire fashion. I think style and fashion should enhance your life. Balancing work & life I schedule my day. Right from the number of hours I sleep to working out in the gym, to planning my professional meetings, everything is planned in advance. This simple approach makes life easy. Words of Wisdom Like my father said ‘overcoming fear’ is what it takes to be an entrepreneur. Believe in your idea. Then you are confident, enthusiastic and positive about building it. Planning your finance is the basic and the most important aspect of business. As an entrepreneur you need to know that there are no fixed working hours, the pressure would be high and you have to slog the most. So, one must be ready to put up with this mental and physical drain until the business stabilizes. Way ahead I am working on something that no other optical store in India has done. Surprisingly, everybody knows about it but doesn’t realise its importance. I pitched it to my dad and he asked me to prove it. I implemented the idea in one store and showed him the good result. He was so impressed by that he implemented it in all our branches and we will be implementing it in our upcoming ventures.

A family man I was brought up in a very loving environs. My father has gone through ups and downs of life but never let that affect our lives. Needless to say that I have made great friends who support me through thick and thin. I like to socialize with new
