On July 13, 2006 the Drive-By Truckers set up shop at Plan 9 Records in Richmond, VA. It was the 25th Anniversary of the store. The band performed to a packed house and played a blistering set of fan-favorites featuring the songs, “18 Wheels of Love”, “Let There Be Rock”, “Goddamn Lonely Love” and “Daddy’s Cup.” The performance was also set up to benefit the Bryan and Kathryn Harvey Family Memorial Endowment. The foundation provides, among other things, music scholarships in the Richmond area. Lead vocalist and songwriter, Patterson Hood ended up writing the song “Two Daughters and A Beautiful Wife” about Bryan Harvey and his family. Following the release of this record on 2020 RSD Black Friday, this 3 LP set will be pressed on color vinyl for the first time. The updated packaging includes original artwork from acclaimed artist and long time collaborator, Wes Freed. Now available on CD for the first time as well.

During the heyday of the late '80s indie underground, high school sweethearts Bela Koe-Krompecher and Jenny Mae Leffel moved together from small-town Ohio to the big city of Columbus to pursue education and a dream of something more. When they arrived, the two met Jerry Wick, a prickly malcontent and lead singer of the punk rock band Gaunt, and the trio quickly forged a contentious friendship that would be addiction mental illness, challenged for the next 20 years by addiction, homelessness, divergent whims and tragic paths. They bonded over their obsessive love of music, especially the scrappy, welcoming world of independent labels and bands, where heroes could be a neighbor, a bartender or even a know-it-all behind the counter of a record store. Through the label Koe-Krompecher and Wick launched, and the music Leffel made, these three friends gained fans nationwide and garnered unexpected critical acclaim from The New York Times, Entertainment Weekly, SPIN and more while sharing the stage with bands like Superchunk, Mudhoney and Guided by Voices. At its heart, Love, Death & Photosynthesis is a story of the love between friends and the power of music to pull people together—often in spite of themselves—in the universal search for connection connection.

In Paris in the seven year gap between the recording of The End and the release of Drama Of Exile, Nico appeared to be doing little more than feeding a heavy heroin habit. When she met Aura Records founder Aaron Sixx after a gig there she told him that she was eager to start recording again. He told her to contact him when she was next in London. When she arrived it was with a new harmonium in tow claiming the previous one had been stolen and that its replacement was a gift from Patti Smith.

Quilichini’s production on the album and in particular Mahamad Hadi’s guitar parts emphasised the eastern promise of the numbers and provided a stirring counterpoint to Nico’s heavily accented teutonic vocals which gave the whole thing a stark beauty. “The real surprises on Drama are the covers. Lou Reed’s ‘Waiting For The Man,’ one tune she didn’t sing on that first Velvets album, is invested with a deadened user’s authenticity that Reed’s self-conscious streetcool sneer couldn’t deliver, while Bowie’s ‘Heroes’ has an unexpectedly flexible vocal (Nico gayly intoning ‘I, I will be King’), exuberant playing and a radio-active disco pop arrangement that could even see our lady in the charts after all these exiled years. As one critic memorably put it, when Nico spoke it was like coffin-lids creaking. When she sang it was like listening to ravens taking off 13 at a time. Nico was like nothing rock music had ever seen or heard before or since.

She also brought with her the Corsican record producer Philippe Quilichini and his girlfriend - a half French half Vietnamese creature who Nico would introduce as her new manager, though really she was little more than her pusher. She and Quilichini had already finished the demos of the seven new songs and two cover versions that eventually they would record for the album.

This is a super-limited strictly 1000 copy one-off only edition pressed on white coloured vinyl of this in-demand Trees Speak classic debut album. When the band Trees Speak, coming out of nowhere, released an exclusive one-off 100-pressing white label 45, described as CAN/NEU! meets LIQUID LIQUID, it sold out so quickly (in less than 30 min) that Soul Jazz Records decided to release their album almost immediately. Soul Jazz Records rarely release new music but found the music of TREES SPEAK’s album ‘OHMS’ so stunning and to have so many elements of music that they admired that they felt compelled to release it. The group Trees Speak are from Tucson, Arizona and create new music that sounds like GERMAN KRAUTROCK meets NO WAVE/POST-PUNK and PSYCH ROCK – music for fans of CLUSTER, TANGERINE DREAM, CAN, NEU!, SILVER APPLES and early KRAFTWERK. The album ‘OHMS’ sounds at times like a tripped out & moody JOHN CARPENTER/GOBLIN/MORRICONE soundtrack that seamlessly segues into propulsive, ‘motorik’ Krautrock instrumentals loaded with fuzzy, hypnotic mellotron, synths and analogue effects, as well as elements of ART ENSEMBLE free jazz, and all at times reaching a kind of post-rave psychedelia. On THE FVCKHEAѪTED LVNG, New York visual artist and musician Austin SleyJulian of Sunk Heaven might convince you the lungfish is the spirit animal of 2021. He explains the creature’s significance “Lungfish survive severe drought by laying dormant in dry mud within a membrane until the rain - the emergence of the dormant lungfish from under the drought-ridden mud represents the garish reality of our times, uncovering the thin veil it wore for so long.” On one level, burrowing beneath the soil is a survival mechanism, on another it’s hiding - either way, it testifies to isolation. THE FVCKHEAѪTED LVNG is noisy but lucid, fittingly never falling into tropes or molds of academic experimentalism or no-wave. Within its sounds is a reverence for the body and an entreaty to reason. It isn’t an album that dwells on what’s proper, instead focusing on what is, or what must be. Survival is necessary, as can be extreme lengths. But when the time to break from your timed tomb comes, do you choose to hit the snooze button?

back the mud, showcasing a possible role of creation in opposition to permanent inactivity - music has the capacity to cure alienation, to create solidarity, to pierce a membrane. Even songs like the elegiac “Phoenix,” with operatic vocals by Rachael Uhlir who was a collaborator on the composition, break the mold of classic delicacy. The piece brandishes coiling synths and atonal textures that take the song just a step outside of comforting, allowing for a singular disquiet to exist among the beauty. It’s serendipitous that THE FVCKHEAѪTED LVNG’s release parallels a new wave of cicadas. Cicadas are another species that lie dormant before selfexcavating from the earth, though Cicadas will do it for years at a time rather than in seasons. Their trebly drone cakes the world like few things. There’s a cacophony to it, but within the buzzing timbre is the sound of life. Like cicadas, THE FVCKHEAѪTED LVNG is loud - it makes its presence known, one that finds elegance in its abrasive qualities. It was hard to get in touch with Pete Gill in the summer of 2018. He didnʼt have a phone, car, or apartment. He had a job renting swan boats on the Delaware River in Philadelphia, where he was the oldest employee by ten years. He had a 3rd Generation iPod Touch, which he used to tell his friends whether he could hang out over Facebook Messenger on wifi, and to listen to the Beach Boys every single day. public wi And he had a bicycle. Gill wrote over 150 songs that summer. At the time, he toured with Philly bands Friendship and Free Cake for Every Creature. 2nd Grade began as a passion project, inspired by the childlike openness and excitement of early power pop singles. Over two weekends, Gill recorded every inst instrument of Wish You Were Here Tour to garageband in a friendʼs carpeted bathroom, starting with drums. Philly label Sleeper Records did a short run of tapes; Gill never expected anyone to hear it. Gill isnʼt getting sunburned at the Harbor Park anymore. Heʼs got a band, and he wants everyone to hear it. He still writes songs at a Robert Pollard-pace, but he doesnʼt have to play his own drums. In 2020, 2nd Grade released the 24-track LP “Hit to Hit” on Double Double Whammy with a band of Philly all-stars including members of Remember Sports, Friendship, and 22 degree halo. Now, the five-piece band has re-recorded eight songs from Wish You Were Here Tour. Along with remastered versions of the original fourteen and one outtake, they will make up Wish You Were Here Tour Revisited, a document of the bandʼs past, present, and future.

Now, the band is entrusting us with releasing its subsequent anthology of live concert performances, Road Trips! Unlike Dick’s Picks, which saw about two-thirds of its titles go to regular retail in their original incarnations, NONE of the entries in the Road Trips series were offered to retail outlets outside of the Dead’s own website. The Road Trips series was also a little different from Dick’s Picks in that the early volumes assembled tracks from different shows on the same tour, while later volumes (starting with this one) presented single shows. Dragon Records was founded in Stockholm, 1975, by pianist/composer Jan Wallgren (1935-96) together with producer and music journalist Lars Wes�n. Today Dragon Records is owned and managed by Lars Wes�n. Most Dragon releases feature contemporary Swedish jazz groups and soloists. There are also a number of LPs and CDs with historical recordings by Swedish musicians, most notably a series of eleven CDs with Lars Gullin, or with American jazz soloists recorded in Sweden, amongst which are Stan Getz, Sonny Rollins, Lee Konitz, Miles Davis, Art Blakey, Thelonious Monk, Kenny Dorham, Art Farmer and Dizzy Gillespie. Dragon Records has recorded quite a few American jazz musicians visi�ng Sweden including Lee Konitz, Bob Brookmeyer, Chet Baker, Jim McNeely, Hal Galper, Bob Mintzer, Richie Beirach, Ron McClure, Adam Nussbaum, Red Mitchell, Roger Kellaway and Dave Liebman together with Swedes. There are also CDs with Swedish musicians recorded in the US (trumpeter Anders Bergcrantz and bassist Lars Danielsson) or historical material featuring clarine�st Stan Hasselgard. Since 1982, Dragon Records has received 13 Golden Disc awards for Best Swedish jazz album of the year. One of Dragon’s most successful albums is with the Miles Davis Quintet recorded in Stockholm on two occasions in 1960. LARS GULLIN - 1955/56 vol.1 with Chet Baker This CD features the legendary Swedish baritonist with four different groups from the 1955-1956 period, ranging from a quartet to an octet and featuring trumpeter Chet Baker on four numbers. Throughout, Gullin is heard in prime form, stretching out on his most famous original (“Danny’s Dream”), featuring the cool-toned clarinet of Arne Domnerus on “Ma,” and holding his own with Baker’s quartet. Highly recommended.

THELONIOUS MONK QUARTET - Live in Stockholm 1961 Thelonious Monk Quartet just prior to the pianist signing with Columbia. Taken from a radio broadcast, these performances feature ten Monk composi�ons plus “I’m Ge�ng Sen�mental over You” and brief piano solos on “Just a Gigolo” and “Body and Soul.” As with the other Monk European recordings from this tour, the solos of bassist John Ore and drummer Frankie Dunlop are run of the mill, but Monk and tenor-saxophonist Charlie Rouse are in excellent form. EJE THELIN QUINTET - German Jazz fes�val 1964 Between 1961 and 1965 Eje Thelin formed his first own group with which he toured across Europe. In 1964 he performed in Copenhagen with George Russell; from the late 60s to the mid-70s he played with Joachim Kühn and John Surman and turned to Free Jazz. This album became a legend, mostly due to the coopera�on with Belgian Joel Vandrooogenbroeck, who had played with big names such as René Thomas, Bobby Jaspar, Barney Wilen and Zoot Sims. In 1968 Vandroogenbroeck formed the experimental rockband Brain�cket. This CD was recorded on May 6, 1964 at the German Jazz Fes�val in F rankfurt. The music offers top-quality Modern Jazz.

Antidotes Lucinda is a multi-instrumentalist, producer, arranger and singer-songwriter based in South London with British, Malaysian and ancient Chinese heritage. She predominantly uses her voice, cello, effects and piano to write stunning pop ambient songs. In her early 20s her first band Felix released two albums on kranky, which led her to also play cello and arrange strings for Stars of the Lid’s world tour. A few years later she toured extensively as FKA twigs’ cellist and, whilst experimenting with the instrument’s textures creating otherworldly sounds, Lucinda developed her own sonic landscape.

n In The Tender Dream’s distended drones, chattering poetry, cosmic synth work, and gentle ambiance, Sally Decker dives back and forth between chaos and order, turmoil and respite. Prickly, pointillist pieces like the title track give way to more restful moments like the centered, self-assured “Affirmation,” a balance that echoes Decker’s realizations about feedback. There are stormy feelings captured in these pieces, but there’s peace too if you’re willing to listen for it. The ideas behind In The Tender Dream first took shape when Decker moved to Oakland to attend Mills College. Drawn, in part, by the communitarian nature of the program, she went through an intense period of personal and artistic growth. Challenged by mentors to experiment and delve deep, she found her way to these feedback systems, and to new ways of making art that felt intensely personal. Exploring the ache of codependency, straining deeply for self-worth on her own terms, she crafted

pieces that helped her process her most intimate feelings. Working with vocalists Briana Marela and Emily Cardwell, she puts face to the shifting emotions—a voice rising from the thick mist of her feedbackladen compositions. Drawing on her background as a writer, she put words to the feelings that for so many, for so long, remain shapeless and unsettled. Taming the feedback is an emotional journey of its own, but coupled with these lucid monologues and affirmations, In The Tender Dream feels vulnerable and intense, like locking eyes with a stranger across a room, taking a breath, and staring deeply.

Terminal Pharmacy FOCUS ON A TZADIK CLASSIC Born in 1969, composer/improviser/producer Jim O’Rourke has already built an impressive resume in the international rock/improvisation underground. He has recorded as a member of the experimental rock groups Gastr Del Sol, The Red Krayola, Brise Glace and Yona Kit, recorded a half dozen of his own albums of guitar improvisation and musique-concrete compositions on the Staalplaat, Extreme, Divided, Entenpfuhl and Metamkine labels, released collaborative recordings with Henry Kaiser, K.K. Null, Gunter Muller, Eddie Prevost, Evan Parker and Nicholas Collins, and produced albums by Tony Conrad, Faust, Melt Banana and Space Streakings. Electro-acoustic music is the thread that connects O’Rourke’s varied activities and comprises his main compositional effort. These pieces, two years in the making, stand out as his finest constructions to date.
