PRAISE FOR LODESTAR "The album isn't a comeback but a continuum, and a welcome return from a true oracle of traditional song." ALL MUSIC "That Lodestar exists at all feels like a minor miracle. That it is so exquisitely done is a small blessing on top." PITCHFORK OVERVIEW Heart's Ease is Shirley Collins' second album for Domino. Heart’s Ease follows 2017’s Lodestar, Collins’ first record in 38 years, and one that brought Shirley’s widely missed voice back to fans.

Whilst Lodestar was recorded tentatively within the confines of Collins’ cottage in Lewes, allowing her the freedom and space to re-find her voice, this time, emboldened by the response to the album and its supporting live shows, a more confident Shirley and The Lodestar Band decamped to Metway Studio in Brighton to record Heart’s Ease. An album broader & brighter in tone than Lodestar, it finds Shirley exploring warmer themes and features three songs less rooted within the folk tradition; one written by Dolly Collins’ son Buz Collins (Shirley’s nephew) and two by Shirley's former husband Austin John Marshall. Heart’s Ease, named after a wild pansy, also follows the release of Collins’ second book All In The Downs which won the Penderyn Prize and the documentary The Ballad of Shirley Collins.

JON HASSELL SEEING THROUGH SOUND PENTIMENTO VOLUME TWO “Listen as if you were being told a secret” - Federico Fellini A companion piece to 2018’s Listening To Pictures, this second volume in the pentimento series presents eight new tracks by the music visionary, continuing his lifelong exploration of the possibilities of recombination and musical gene-splicing. Pentimento is defined as the “reappearance in a painting of earlier images, forms, or strokes that have been changed and painted over” and this is evident in the innovative production style that ‘paints with sound’ using overlapping nuances to create an undefinable and intoxicating new palette. In classic Hassell fashion, the title can be interpreted in a myriad of ways, but perhaps the most pertinent at the moment is the human instinct to sing and play through a rain of difficulties. A future blues of indeterminate and ever-shifting shape. The album is buffered by two 8-minute plus epics at the beginning and the end - the hypnotic “Fearless” with it’s metronomic, almost Can-like rhythm, and blurry, noir-ish texture of sound emerging like car headlights from the fog; mirrored at the end of the record by the beautiful sci-fi lullaby of “Timeless”, a track with a gaseous, billowing quality as electronic clicks and bubbles float over a landscape of shimmering, glacially paced complexity. The bridge between those two worlds is no less compelling, from the frantic, spidery IDM sketch of “Reykjavik” to the collapsed-time ballad of “Unknown Wish”. Whilst containing seeds of classic ‘fourth world’ fusion, this record finds the artist still questing to create new forms and mutations of music, a thrilling window into what music could sound like in a world to come. ‘All The Time’, Jessy Lanza's first album since 2016's ‘Oh No’, is the most pure set of pop songs that she and creative partner Jeremy Greenspan have recorded, reflective and finessed over time and distance. Innovative juxtapositions sound natural, like rigid 808s rubbing against delicate chords in ‘Anyone Around’, subtle footwork flutter giving a nervous energy to ‘Face’, unusual underwater rushes underpinning ‘Baby Love’. The songs also sound more “live” than ever before. Jessy’s voice is treated, re-pitched and edited on songs like ‘Ice Creamy’ and gestural sounds seem to respond to her lyrics in songs such as ‘Like Fire’, which reward the listener on repeated plays. More than previous albums, the lyrics on ‘All The Time’ became an important focus for Jessy too, channelling the negativity of anger and frustration arising from some significant changes in her personal situation into the text. These lyrics sometimes process raw feelings, which aren't obvious to begin with, but are soon felt, standing in stark contrast to the cushioned settings of the music. ‘All The Time’ has ended as a triumph and an abstracted diary of a sometimes difficult, but enduring friendship and creative relationship, and it’s their best work yet.

HOWLING COLURE Release Date: Friday 24 July RY X and Frank Wiedemann reunite as Howling to present ‘Colure’ the sophomore full-length record from their joint musical enterprise released via Counter Records on 17th July. RY X, solo alternative artist and member of The Acid, and Frank, one half of Âme, bring fans a bigger, sharper follow-up to their debut, ‘Sacred Ground.’ On ‘Colure’, the Berlin-based Wiedemann and Los Angeles-based RY X conjure transcendent creations out of their contrasting musical backgrounds and environments. The album is assuredly dualistic: electronic and acoustic sounds sit comfortably side-by-side, and big melodic hooks are laced into hypnotic club productions. The duo marked their debut as Howling with the release of a self-titled track in 2012, a runaway viral success that they followed with the 2015 album Sacred Ground (which was praised by Mixmag, DJ Mag, Resident Advisor and more). RY X rose to underground-folk fame with breakthrough hit ‘Berlin’ and followed up with solo albums ‘Dawn’ and 2019’s ‘Unfurl’. Wiedemann is royalty of the 4/4 scene as one half of Âme with Kristian Beyer, and head honcho of Berlin label Innervisions which he co-owns with Dixon & Kristian. The album title gestures to their binary relationship. “Colure” refers to the point, in astronomy, where two celestial poles are aligned. Echoed in the album artwork, and in the production around their new live show, it mirrors the two contrasting poles which each of them occupies. “This project is a lot about how we come together”, Ry says. “It’s the idea”, concurs Wiedemann, “that we’re two different planets, in our own orbit, but which meet when we come together to make music.”

Laurence Pike continues in a rich creative vein with the release of Prophecy, his third solo album in as many years. Inspired to write and record in response to the devastating wild fires in his native Australia, the percussionist, composer and producer has created a work for our times. Adopting the working formula of ‘one take’ studio performances for drum kit and sampler; channelling the moment through Pike’s singular, organic use of electronics, and intuitively constructed arrangements. There is an instinctive and emotional resonance here, driven by his reaction to the climate emergency. Laurence Pike on Prophecy: The music on Prophecy was made during an intense period of climate-related disasters in my home of Australia last summer that seemed to represent the beginning of a strange new way of existing on Earth. The pieces were developed in the space of four weeks at my home, and then captured in a single day of studio performances. As a result, the music is as much an assemblage of moments from the days leading up to the recording (stepping into my garden to be greeted by a dark pink sun against a brown sky, and ash gently raining on me) as it is a reflection of how I felt in the moment playing them live in the studio. In the short time since, we’ve gone from staying inside and wearing face masks because the city was completely surrounded by fire, and the air filled with acrid smoke, to staying indoors to stop the spread of a global pandemic… laurencepike.net instagram.com/laurenzpike facebook.com/laurencepikedrummerandfriend The Leaf Label theleaflabel.com contact@theleaflabel.com

t is as we have dared to hope and fear! Fearful Symmetry has returned to our life. When you buy this living reissue (more on that in a moment), it talks to you. Slide the sleeve out of the jacket and it says “This is not a vinyl record. It is a story.” And so — Once upon a time, it wasn’t the 90s yet, and everything that’s happened in music and everything else since then hadn’t happened yet. As it was still the 80s, the possibilities were endless! This was around the time of Desert Storm — and before you protest that indeed, this war happened in the 1990s, we must assert that standard Greco-Roman calendars don’t really tell the truth about the changing of things like guards and decades. It always takes a numerically-dictated decade a few years to get into the mode it will one day be remembered for — and so this story, while playing out in the undoubtably-distant days of ’90, occurred at the end of something, before something else began. Or something like that. As the liner notes would continue to have it: “It is a story or record of a group of artistically inclined people who haphazardly found themselves living together and who — toward the end of the arrangement — decided to record the experience in the form of songs written whilst at 140 Plymouth Street in Dumbo.” Yes, in Brooklyn. Circa 1990. Already, there’s more to the story than you would have known if you’d cracked this particular Box of Chocolates back in the early 90s. The credits listed some incredible names — Brute Rake, Mickey Hawaii, Wayne Oliphant — and indeed, those names are listed again on the all-new-artwork of this opus. But with the new artwork, and the inclusion of several pieces that weren’t there back then — or even finished back then — this has become a living, growing document of a disorganized and disheveled film cooperative (is there any other kind?), who dared to trace its name in the sands, and has come back to deepen the groove. The artwork’s been flipped about — by livestock, no less — and the tracks have been reordered too, in places. “Stigmataphoria” and “The Past Lives of Clarence Thomas,” which include much of the spirit and some of the bonafides of the initial set of songs, have been inserted for the benefit of all. And the names of the songs’ writers, singers and players, including Michael Howe, Will Oldham, Arnie Wobble (of early Phish-lore), Tony Award-winner Michael Chorney, sound-artist and ethnographer Rob Millis and others whose names we shall not speak — appear also for the first time. Along with a lode of retrospective notes whose expression adds yet another form of entertainment to the package. As this cast of dozens loft-crashed their way toward a collectivelyunknown future, these songs and visions were scrapped together — a loose assemblage of middle-period indie rock, roots-rock pastiche, punk brio, and cinema-fed abstractions, as a suggested soundtrack for the party of your choice. It sounded good and fun — enough so that it still does, even after all these years and all the little adjustments made to bring this ole Box of Chocolates freshly into the present, the story somehow all told and yet only just begun. Whether you yourself are new to your youthful journey, far from home or among it, we bring Fearful Symmetry to your life, as a needed bit of psychic Feng Shui. Fret not, and spin it on!

Gregory Uhlmann

“…a lush brand of chamber pop, eschewing excess and eccentricity in favor of a quest for pure beauty.” -Chicago Reader, on Odd Job “Rising and falling in heavy waves of lush overdrive and hypnotizing vocals, “Spice Girls” is a raw outpouring ready for sweet release.” -Atwood Magazine, on Spice Girls Singer-songwriter and guitarist Gregory Uhlmann, a member of Perfume Genius, Fell Runner and the genre-bending improvising trio Typical Sisters, has in the past found loveliness in dark places. His acclaimed solo album of 2016, Odd Job, blended “lush, hypnotic, minimalist chamber-pop with compelling, introspective folk melancholy,” per the Big Takeover. Neighborhood Watch, also rich in melodic and textural allure, comes from a place of contentment. Consider it a meditation on domestic bliss experienced in early adulthood, an expression of the sweetness, good humor, and fond reflections Uhlmann is compelled toward at this happy place in his life. “This is a very personal project that satisfied something different for me,” the songwriter says. It’s also, somewhat ironically, a brilliant team effort involving several of Uhlmann’s favorite musicians and most trusted collaborators: Josh Johnson, keys; Anna Butterss, bass; Tim Carr, drums and voice; Matt Carroll, percussion; Lauren Baba, violin and viola; and April Guthrie on cello. On “Santa Fe,”, Uhlmann even enlists vocal help from Meg Duffy (Hand Habits). Consistent with the majority of Uhlmann’s work, the songs on Neighborhood Watch match consummate musicianship and thoughtful songcraft with an innate gift for melody, and that lyricism is channeled through Uhlmann’s unique singing voice—soft and balmy yet also direct and affecting. Ultimately, the results summon up a number of touchstones in smart, studio-conscious orchestral pop, psychedelic folk and indie-rock: Think of Van Dyke Parks, the Zombies, Cate le Bon, and Bill Callahan. Neighborhood Watch is Uhlmann’s most definitive, private, and fulfilled—effort yet. redeye distribution 505 Eno Street Hillsborough, NC 27278 harrelp@redeyeworldwide.com

Artist: Quicksails Album: Blue Rise

Label: Hausu Mountain Cat#: HAUSMO100 6 34457 02316 1 Formats: LP Release Date: 07/24/20 (click album art to stream)

Quicksails is the recording project of Chicago-based producer and multi-instrumentalist Ben Billington. Central to the Chicago experimental scene and its various veins across the midwest and national DIY circuit, Billington has been championing freak music of all stripes for over a decade at this point. The social and musical aspects of his craft are inextricably tied together in his roles as a consummate collaborator and member of bands over the years, as well as a booker, promoter, and crucial social lifeline / go-to point person for anyone touring through the region. Billington has performed as a member of numerous ensembles including ONO, ADT, Circuit Des Yeux, Tiger Hatchery, and Ryley Walker’s band. In an improvised setting, he has collaborated with a stable of musicians including John Olson (solo and with Wolf Eyes), Rhys Chatham, Mark Shippy (US Maple), Owen Gardner (Horse Lords), and Paul Flaherty. Billington’s role as a producer at Chicago avant epicenter Elastic Arts and his co-curation of the venue The Hideout’s long-running Resonance Series has paired future-facing acts from around the world with Chicago’s finest to enrich the city’s thriving progressive music scene with stimuli of the highest, headiest order. His work with Chicago nonprofit foundation Experimental Sound Studio has grown recently to include a lead role in their series The Quarantine Concerts, setting up diverse bills of international luminaries for live-streamed concert events. Billington’s integrated social/musical practice has established him as a benevolent figure to a generation of artists in various overlapping Midwest scenes and beyond, as he dedicates his life to giving others a platform for their work and providing them with room to grow in so many directions.

Doug & Max HausuMountain @gmail.com 847-220-1755

Ben Billington’s prolific solo recordings as Quicksails have run the gamut of everything from free-jazz inspired electro-acoustic production, to rhythmic synth-pulse tapestries, to music focused on what could be considered his primary instrument among the many he works with: the drum kit and auxiliary percussion. Blue Rise, his second full-length LP to appear on Hausu Mountain after Mortal, ranks in as the 100th release in the label’s catalog. With Blue Rise, Quicksails returns with an album rooted above all in detailed synthesis and electronic arrangement, rather than his more improvised, jazz-influenced leanings. While those latter influences can’t help but remain in play for any of his recordings, Billington’s approach on Blue Rise foregrounds his palette of modular and digital synthesizers, resulting in a strain of Quicksails music that brims with shimmering textures and lush, layered harmonies. More than a full-on pivot to another style, Billington enters into a complementary mode of production that highlights his melodic sensibilities and his ear for sophisticated DAW-based composition, shifting into another natural step along the wide arc of his musical trajectory. Each track on Blue Rise unfolds as a self-contained world replete with fluctuating tiers of fine-grain synthetic tones that morph in real time as they stack together into dense systems of polyrhythmic activity or smear into passages of all-consuming drift. Quicksails’ tracks generally float over central bass phrases and percussive synth elements that shift over time in their tonal qualities and the harmonies they imply, sketching out a path for the listener to follow while resisting the easy narrative of static, loop-based composition. More than ever, the spreads that Billington lays out on Blue Rise reveal vast depths of diverse, layered sounds as they come to incorporate everything from washes of piano and square waves, to tones that evoke acoustic instruments like wind chimes, shakers, and cymbals, to massive low end bursts that prod his sessions up into new levels of intensity. When Billington decides to complicate the atmosphere of his music with more dissonant synth work, or lace his production with distorted samples and disembodied voices, the results further complicate the range of discrete sonic scenes that he visits within the album’s universe. With the trained ear of a drummer, Quicksails knows how to maintain a sense of constant flow and forward motion within the context of relatively short, 4 to 6 minute tracks, resulting in pieces that end far from where they began while remaining holistically tethered to a central mood or implied rhythmic grid. Strata of percussive synth tones and prickly patches of pure texture animate Blue Rise, inching it closer at times to the realm of mid-20th century academic synth experimentation in the school of Stockhausen, Parmegiani, and Subotnick. In other moments, washes of gorgeous, consonant synth performance steer his work closer to the world of modern ambient music in the sphere of Steve Hauschildt and Oneohtrix Point Never, New Age explorations from Iasos to HausMo label mate Pulse Emitter, and cinematic grandeur in the spirit of Vangelis and Tangerine Dream. Above all, the presence of Florian Fricke and his work with Popul Vuh informs Quicksails’ vision on Blue Rise, which manifests most evidently in the composition “Florian’s Brush” — a serene yet dense pasture of synthetic choral voices in the style of the Aguirre soundtrack, subtle percussion accents, and glistening bell melodies that drip from above the treeline. Taken in total, Blue Rise lays out a menu of contrasting sentimental spaces and self-contained sonic tableaus, each of which refracts the sun’s light out across new directions and terrains. The album cements Quicksails not only as a master synthesist and arranger of farflung sound sources, but as a composer attuned to the time dilating properties and the instantaneous emotional impacts of the zones that he lays out before us.

CRACK CLOUD PAIN OLYMPICS

Like Psychic TV before them, Crack Cloud have a philosophy, and one that they are not afraid to wear on their sleeves. While their anarchic, phantasmagorical visuals, heavy use of symbology, and seemingly never-ending cast of colourful collaborators have often invited cult comparisons, this really does the collective no justice. There is no apocalyptic death drive here; no cult of personality; no hierarchy of power. While frontman and lyricist Zach Choy is in many ways the face of the group, the collective is one founded on equality, and in his cryptic lyrical blending of poetics, polemics and personal experience, Choy is truly the mouthpiece of something far larger than himself. Nowhere else is this more apparent than on the album’s first single, ‘The Next Fix.’

What begins as a caustic, claustrophobic account of addiction swells into a sprawling, euphoric hymn as Choy is joined by a choir of seemingly endless celestial voices. Less a cult then; more a church. Listening to this song or watching its accompanying self-directed video is a truly spiritual experience, and in its building, jubilant movement it offers a glimpse of Crack Cloud’s most vital message: using community to turn adversity into hope. This isn’t just bravado; its a story born of deep, personal experience. Crack Cloud operate on the frontline of Canada’s out-of-control opiate crisis, mobilising and organizing in Vancouver’s harm reduction programmes. The group themselves have had their fair share of trauma, and the collective offers its members a vital vehicle for rehabilitation and recovery. As the tagline on the album’s back cover makes clear then, this is absolutely ‘based on true shit. Working closely with violist and conductor Robert Ames and violinist Galya Bisengalieva, both members of the lauded London Contemporary Orcestra the result is a vast field of sound, as informed by texture and human intervention as it is by melody. “The hope is to be lost in it, to get to the other side with no memory of where you set out from.” ‘Colourfield’ is a stunning debut from a new original voice in modern composition and will most certainly appeal to fans of Johnny Greenwood, Philip Glass, Max Richter, Johann Johannsson and A Winged Victory For The Sullen

Archival Series John Zorn, Simon Hanes, Ches Smith, Claire Chase, Rebekah Heller, Cory Smythe, Dan Lippel, Erik Carlson, Miranda Cuckson, Kivie Cahn-Lipman, Alice Teyssier, Joshua Rubin, David Byrd-Marrow, Michael Lormand, Andrew Bove, Nathan Davis, Ross Karre, Ikue Mori, David Fulmer. Ubu * Baudelaires (Paris Spleen, Flowers of Evil, Artificial Paradises) * Oviri Les Maudits presents three dynamic chamber pieces inspired by heroic “cursed” artists of French culture. Demolishing all boundaries and pushing the artistic envelope beyond all expectations Ubu is one of Zorn’s greatest and most outrageous creations—a bizarre musical portrait of the subversive writer Alfred Jarry and his powerful Pataphyisical figure Ubu. The Ubu plays were a powerful precursor to many of the European avantgarde experiments of the early 20th century (Dada, Surrealism, Theatre of the Absurd, Futurism, postmodernism) and Zorn captures the vulgar, rebellious, gluttonous, childish and revolutionary spirit of Ubu in this major new studio composition.

A HERO’S DEATH INFO

VALUE ADD

Artist: Fontaines D.C. Signed Print + Postcard Pack Title: A Hero’s Death matched with orders while supplies last Street Date: 7/31/2020 Label: Partisan Records Hometown: Dublin, Ireland

OVERVIEW Barely a year after the release of their acclaimed debut album Dogrel (which charted Top 10 in the UK, earned a Mercury Prize nomination, Fallon performance, and #1 Album of the Year positions for BBC 6Music and Rough Trade), Fontaines DC have returned with an intensely confident, patient, and complex sophomore album. A Hero’s Death’ arrives battered and bruised, albeit beautiful - a heady and philosophical take on the modern world, and its great uncertainty. To record A Hero’s Death, the band rejoined producer Dan Carey in his London studio. While Carey once helped them capture the raw sound of the band’s live show for Dogrel, collectively they achieved a different goal with A Hero’s Death. Citing influences from Suicide and Beach Boys and Leonard Cohen to everyone including Beach House, Broadcast, and Lee Hazlewood, the band carved out a more atmospheric, somber sound for themselves. The songs heave and drone; much of it is too wounded to approach anthemic, even while the litanies of “Love Is The Main Thing” or the surging churn of “Televised Mind” are still plenty easy to get stuck in your head.

OVERVIEW Future-focused and resolute in the mantra that rhythm is a dancer, the Flight Tower EP is helmed by vocalist Felicia Douglass. In opener and first single 'Lose Your Love,' she declares “switch up the perspective!” And that’s exactly what these songs do: the Flight Tower EP is the most complete presentation yet of Dirty Projectors as modern vocal group. From the cascading three-part melisma of 'Inner World' to the close-second harmonies of 'Self Design' and the strong, soulful SWV homage of the 'Lose Your Love' chorus, Douglass, Slipp and Friedman sound magical together. Douglass shines, her mellow tambre glinting with confidence and passion. Aside from a supporting vocal in closer ‘Empty Vessel,’ Dave Longstreth resides on the other side of the screen, delivering inventive evolutions of the production style he began mapping on 2017’s Dirty Projectors and 2018’s Lamp Lit Prose. The feeling is effortless and casual, but this is deep new Projectors for deep times. Powering the alto role — as well as Nord and percussion — in Dirty Projectors since 2018, Felicia is a musical polymath and founding member of the Brooklyn stalwarts Ava Luna and Gemma.

LAND OF TALK Indistinct Conversations July 15th, 31st, 2020 May 2020

• Indie Exclusive vinyl limited to 500 copies pressed on red vinyl. • Featuring “Weight of That Weekend” and “Compelled.” • LP includes digital download.

Indistinct Conversations is the new album from Land of Talk - the Montreal-based band led by Elizabeth Powell. The album’s first single “Weight of That Weekend,” finds Powell delivering a soulful, impassioned plea over an expansive musical terrain. “‘Weight of That Weekend’ is a recognition of having been on the receiving end of a lifetime of sexual coercion, assault, boundary violations, and subsequent gaslighting. It all just came to light after an especially heavy weekend a few summers back,” explains Powell. “I was so sick of carrying all this weight that wasn't mine to bear. So sick of being owned by all of this. Imposed on me mostly by men. I grew so sick of suffering and being slowed-down by this weight. The song is a prayer for a lightness of being. A prayer for capital ‘L’ Love.” All 11 songs on Indistinct Conversations were written by Powell (vocals/guitar/keys), and share the hallmarks of the Land of Talk sound: her silvery vocals; masterful, at times cacophonous guitar playing; and a stream-of-conscious lyricism—here perhaps at her most emotionally vulnerable and honest. Powell produced and arranged the tracks together with her bandmates Mark “Bucky” Wheaton (drums/keys) and Christopher McCarron (bass), and the trio recorded the album in a studio built by McCarron in Wheaton’s apartment basement. Indistinct Conversations follows 2017’s acclaimed Life After Youth—at the time Land of Talk’s first album in seven years. The release saw praise from Pitchfork, Paste, The AV Club, and NPR Music, among others, with its singles earning additional highlights from The FADER, NPR Music's All Songs Considered, New York Magazine’s Vulture, Stereogum, Brooklyn Vegan, Bandcamp, WXPN, and more.

MADELINE KENNEY SUCKER’S LUNCH

CARPARK RECORDS www.carparkrecords.com Oakland artist Madeline Kenney bounds toward the unknown on her third album, Sucker’s Lunch, expanding on the idea of what a love song could be – a little more cautious than exuberant, more nuanced than blazing devotion. Sonically, the album expands upon Kenney’s earlier, guitar-driven sound – a definitive step forward from an artist adept at communicating universal sentiments in a voice unmistakably her own. To help realize her vision, Kenney once again enlisted Wye Oak’s Jenn Wasner and Andy Stack, previous collaborators and friends. Together, the trio carefully constructed the songs in a few compact sessions in Oakland, San Francisco, and Durham. Stack and Wasner’s rhythm section trace circles around Kenney’s off-kilter guitar, with verdant curls of synths, saxophone, and complex harmonies. Lambchop’s Kurt Wagner lends his distinctive tenor to lead single “Sucker.” The resulting songs are immediate and deeply moving, somehow feeling familiar while they defy expectations at every turn. “I’m not interested in something easy or immediately apparent,” Kenney says. “My experience writing these songs wasn’t easy, it was painful and difficult. I was terrified of falling in love, and as much as I’d like to write a sticky sweet song for someone, it doesn’t come naturally to me. Instead I wanted to explore the tiny moments; sitting alone in my room guessing what the other person was thinking, spiraling into a maze of logical reasons to bail and finding my way out again. When I spoke with friends about the theme of the ‘idiot’, it became apparent that everyone understood that feeling and was relieved to hear it echoed in someone else.”

TRACKLISTING 1. Sugar Sweat 2. Picture of You 3. Jenny 4. Tell You Everything 5. Sucker 6. Double Hearted 7. Cut The Real 8. Be That Man 9. White Window Light 10. Sweet Coffee

Thematically, Sucker’s Lunch sees Kenney soberly contrasting the risks and rewards of falling in love, eventually deciding to dive headfirst into her own foolishness and relish in the unknowing. The tracks explore new love from every angle – “Picture of You” is a soundtrack-worthy lamentation of never truly knowing what someone has been through (“growing up is so hard, I don’t know why”) while tender vulnerability shines on “Tell You Everything” (“When your eyes say ‘we’ve had a day, love’, I get to fall in”). Kenney audibly loses her mind on “Double Hearted,” where the playful arrangement and lyrics spark a firestorm of heartache and wild abandon. “Cut The Real” pairs synth drones with syncopated lyrics to work through a depressive mind state, and the neardevotional “White Window Light” accepts uncertainty as a beautiful gift.

“There’s so much love in it,” Wasner says of Sucker’s Lunch. “It’s the story of someone figuring out how to be a person in the world, and how to be with another person without losing oneself.” Sucker’s Lunch shines in its ability to speak the strange, ambiguous, impossible truth – nothing less than a balanced meal for the wise fool in us all. AIRTO

seeds on the ground—the natural sounds of Airto (Limited Ocean Blue Vinyl Edition) STREET DATE: JULY 31, 2020 Airto’s second album, and second and last release for the Buddah label, brought back largely the same crew that appeared on his debut record Natural Feelings (also reissued by Real Gone): vocalist (and wife) Flora Purim, composer and multi-instrumentalist Hermeto Pascoal, and bassist Ron Carter, with contributions from Dom Um Ramão (who later replaced Airto in Weather Report) and Severino De Oliveira a.k.a. Sivuca. Given Airto’s connections to Miles Davis, Weather Report, and Return to Forever, Seeds on the Ground could easily get lumped into the jazz fusion category. But that would be a mistake. This totally unclassifiable (and, by the way, exceedingly rare) album was no mere blend of rock and jazz influences. Instead, Seeds on the Ground was truly a fusion, an ecstatic melding of bossa nova, psychedelic rock, Brazilian folk, Latin jazz, free jazz, and what we call nowadays “world music.” If that sounds a bit calculated or intimidating, it’s not; what makes this album so compelling is how organic and intimate it all sounds. Airto played with probably the three most legendary fusion groups in jazz history, and later released a bunch of albums, many for the CTI label. But it would be hard not to label this beautiful record as his crowning achievement. Our proud Real Gone reissue features the original gatefold cover art, and comes in an ocean blue vinyl pressing limited to 1000 copies.

STREET DATE: JULY 31, 2020 Like most “concept” albums of the period, Man’s 1969 debut release was a little short on continuity and, well, concept… but who cares when in the space of one wildly psychedelic side Revelation careened from the psychedelic pomp of “And in the Beginning…” to the banned-inthe-UK “Erotica,” which upped the ante on Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsbourg’s carryingson with the sounds of a four minute-long female orgasm set to a fuzz-guitar freak-out!? Side two is only a little bit less intense, with the coulda been/shoulda been single “Don’t Just Stand There (Come Out of the Rain)” a worthy successor to the Small Faces’ “Itchycoo Park.” Throughout, this Welsh band displays the twin guitar attack of Roger “Deke” Leonard and Mike Jones that led them to be compared to Quicksilver Messenger Service. But Clive John’s Hammond organ gives Man’s sound an extra texture that pushes them a bit in a prog direction, making Revelation exactly that (headphones highly recommended)! THE ELECTRIC PRUNES: The Complete Reprise Singles STREET DATE: JULY 31, 2020 Though the Electric Prunes were responsible for some of the boldest and most experimental pop of the late ‘60s, they always were, more than just about any band of their ilk, a singles-oriented act, at least in their earliest incarnation. In fact, according to vocalist James Lowe, the engineers at American Recording, where many of their early singles were recorded, used to transmit the single mixes to a radio in a car parked outside the studio to make sure the songs sounded good in the medium through which most people would hear them. As a result, the Prunes’ singles were punchier than their album counterparts, and were, above all, mono—yet until this release, no legitimate collection had ever compiled these singles, many of which had never been on CD in their original mix. Real Gone Music has assembled all 23 of their original single sides for Reprise, which span several band line-ups and several legendary producers (Dave Hassinger, David Axelrod) with very different visions, yet remain of remarkably consistent high quality. Richie Unterberger’s notes include track commentary from the band and shots of the original singles themselves. Special bonus: the band’s demonstration of the Vox Wah-Wah Pedal!

the ides of march VEHICLE (E XPANDED EDITION) STREET DATE: JULY 31, 2020 Along with Blood, Sweat & Tears, Chicago, and Tower of Power, The Ides of March were one of the great “horn bands” of the late ‘60s and early ‘70s. “The Ides” began in a basement in the Chicago suburb of Berwyn on October 16th, 1964, and have stayed together ever since; only the Rolling Stones really rival them for longevity. And this album, Vehicle, was their commercial high-water mark; its title track went to #2 and the album to #55 on the 1970 charts. It’s a happy collision (no pun intended) of the band’s garage-y British pop influences and the more progressive sounds of Chicago and BS&T that were sweeping through FM radio at the time; our Expanded Edition features four single bonus tracks and notes by Richie Unterberger featuring quotes from the band’s Jim Peterik and Larry Millas. Highly recommended!

THE DEFINITIVE COLLECTION (2-CD Set) STREET DATE: JULY 31, 2020 She was the ultimate bombshell, a Swedish seductress with flame-colored hair, a fulsome figure, and a taste for Triumph motorcycles. But with Ann-Margret, her irresistible beauty took a back seat to her incandescent talent; this was no mere starlet, but a performer whose singing, dancing, and acting skills—all imbued with a devil-may-care charisma— caused record execs to groom her as the female Elvis Presley. Now, finally, here is a comprehensive collection that captures those magical early days of Ann-Margret’s career, a 2-CD set that includes 30 tracks carefully chosen from her 1961-1966 RCA recordings. Among the featured tracks: chart hits like “I Just Don’t Understand,” “It Do Me So Good,” and “What Am I Supposed to Do;” her famous duets with Elvis from Viva Las Vegas, “You’re the Boss” and “The Lady Loves Me” (which, as legend has it, Col. Tom Parker withheld from commercial release because he was afraid Ann-Margret would overshadow The King); four tracks from Beauty and the Beard, her charting album with trumpeter Al Hirt; soundtrack recordings from Bye Bye Birdie, Every Night at Eight, Thunderball, The Swinger, and The Pleasure Seekers; and much more. In fact, these 30 songs—which include single sides as well—hail from nine different albums, and liner note writer Joe Marchese walks you through each and every one of them on this sumptuous package, which includes vintage album artwork. An earful and an eye-ful…viva Ann-Margret!

We were a little scared of the audience so we kept our heads down and focused – and we danced like mad when there was a break! Ricky was so fierce on the guitar – so intense – it was all so raw and live and we loved it.” Now, Real Gone Music is very proud to present this key live document of one of America’s most beloved and distinctive New Wave groups on CD, complete with liner notes by Jason Gross featuring fresh quotes from the band members and rare photos. Triangle/Bradley’s Barn STREET DATE: JULY 31, 2020

While San Francisco’s Beau Brummels are best known to casual fans for the British Invasion-style hits “Laugh, Laugh” and “Just a Little,” the two albums they cut for Warner Bros. with producer Lenny Waronker, Triangle and Bradley’s Barn, remain their most artistically ambitious and critically acclaimed records, and continue to exert an influence on modern-day rockers well beyond their modest commercial success. The group was at a low point when they recorded Triangle; they were fresh off the debacle of Beau Brummels ’66, the album of covers that was their ill-conceived Warner debut, and the original quintet had shrunk down to a trio of vocalist Sal Valentino, guitarist and principal songwriter Ron Elliott, and bassist Ron Meagher. But with Waronker as producer, the band was for the first time given the freedom to craft a coherent project from beginning to end, with help from some creative sidemen like Van Dyke Parks; the result was a moody, mysterious masterpiece that spoke to the psychedelic spirit of 1967 yet stood apart from it with such ethereal songs as “Magic Hollow” and “Painter of Women.” Triangle also had hints of the newly emerging country rock style, and for 1968’s Bradley’s Barn, the Beau Brummels (now just consisting of Valentino and Elliott with Meagher off to the military) went to Nashville to record with such crack Music City session men as Jerry Reed, David Briggs, Norbert Putnam, and Kenneth Buttrey. Unfortunately, Bradley’s Barn met the same fate as Triangle, scoring big with critics but not with audiences; today, however, highlighted by such twangy tunes as “Loneliest Man in Town” and “Long Walking Down to Misery,” it’s reckoned as a country rock landmark and a true alt-country precursor. Real Gone Music is proud to present these two classic albums together on one CD, complete with Richie Unterberger’s liner notes featuring quotes from songwriter Ron Elliott. Essential listening from perhaps the most underrated band of the ‘60s.

production sound of the Doobie Brothers, Kenny Loggins and other superstars of the era, with the kind of hook only real pros could create. For, as is often the case with so-called “overnight sensations,” Ed Sanford and John Townsend had spent years in the music business before hitting it big with “Smoke.” Indeed, the sound of this record was no accident; the duo had worked with both Michael McDonald and Kenny Loggins (who repays the favor with a great vocal on “Oriental Gate”) before cutting this 1977 release, whose sound also benefited from the nonpareil production skills of the great Jerry Wexler and Barry Beckett. We’ve paired it with their 1979 album Nail Me to the Wall, which was released under the name Sanford & Townsend Band and makes its CD debut here; their final release, it didn’t enjoy the same chart success as its predecessor but does offer the same studio-perfect, West Coast ‘70s pop. ARTHUR FIEDLER/BOSTON POPS/ CHET ATKINS: THE POPS GOES COUNTRY/THE POPS GOES WEST STREET DATE: JULY 31, 2020 With a score of charted albums to their name, and many more before the advent of the Billboard charts, Arthur Fiedler and the Boston Pops “crossed over” from classical music into widespread popular acclaim like no other orchestra before or since. Yet, reissues of their album catalog have been spotty in the digital era, even though Fiedler had his finger firmly on the pulse of pop music throughout his tenure. And the first of the albums on our Real Gone twofer is a case in point; recorded in the mid-‘60s, at the height of the Nashville Sound, The Pops Goes Country (which hit #62 on the 1966 charts) put the architect of that sound, Chet Atkins, and

A MAD MENAGERIE OF GRINDHOUSE GO-GO GROOVES! Girl In Gold Boots is Ted V. Mikels’ (The Corpse Grinders) homage to the time tested “small town girl moves to the big city to become a go-go dancer” story. And if a movie is ostensibly about go-go dancing, then we’re gonna need some music to go-go to. And that’s what this album you’re now holding is all about. From the odd psych rocker “Do You Want To Laugh Or Cry,” to a frenetic barrage of country soul. It’s got some solid harmonica groovers, an odd xmas song and of course the banger of a title track! Many of the songs here, performed by Larry Cartell, appeared on B & B’s tiny Glenolden Records label, which issued a mere seven 7” singles in ’67/‘68. Nine of the songs featured here were on those 45s - Jerry Wallace’s “That’s The Fool In Me,” Cartell’s “Girl In Gold Boots,” “Jimmy’s Girl,” “Wheels Of Love,” “My Careless Heart,” “Sin,” and “Cowboy Santa,” plus Danny Welton’s “Julie” and “Strobelights” - Welton was a harmonica player whom we’ll assume is playing on all these tracks; he also produced a few harmonica instruction LPs along with sides for Dot, Coral, and Del-Fi. Also featured is Joe Valino’s 1959 fantastic “(Everything I Touched Turned To) Gold,” which later became a hit on the Belgian Popcorn dance scene. Combine them all with some Nicholas Carras cool Crime Jazz cues and you’ve got quite a romp. Now, go don your gold boots, and get ready to boogaloo. Go, baby, go! GO!!! True studio albums of Ra with the Arkestra are rare on this planet or beyond. This studio saucer is an interplanetary interpreter, here to convert even the faintest of heart to the sounds of Sun Ra. Recorded with Arkestra veterans at the same NY studio that hosted countless Sun Ra sessions since the late 60s, this first ever reissue of Celestial Love contains the only known recordings of the titular track and “Blue Intensity,” plus a cut not on the original Saturn LP! The music here is mostly "inside Ra." In fact, it's one of the most accessible albums in the Ra canon. One of Ra's early heroes, Duke Ellington, is represented twice with "Sophisticated Lady" and "Drop Me Off In Harlem," and two other standards ("Smile" and "Sometimes I'm Happy," both sung by June Tyson) are given snappy Ra arrangements. Though Sun Ra was renowned for outrageous music and performances, Celestial Love is a reminder that he was a man of many moods, with a deep respect for jazz history. His embrace of Futurism never implied a rejection of the past. Even rocket ships were constructed with raw materials discovered eons ago.

ARTIST: LOTHAR AND THE HAND PEOPLE

GRINDIN’ & DRIVIN’ GARAGE PUNK? This 1966 live recording provides the first evidence of Lothar And The Hand People's previous life as a feral gang of rough-hewn, guitar-based garage rockers. From ferocious turns on traditional blues tunes to the Hand People’s custom-built snarling rave-up originals, Come Along captures some of the most electrifying moments from the period before they followed their electronic inclinations down a freakier path.

Denver's Exodus club was a cut above the junior beer joints. It had already earned a reputation as a top-tier stop on the national folk music circuit, hosting everyone from Judy Collins to Bob Dylan. But the times, they were a-changin', and Lothar And The Hand People became the first rockers ever to soil the stage of the storied folk den. When the world at large met Lothar And The Hand People they were electronic rock explorers, but in their first evolutionary phase captured here, they were pounding out songs that kept patrons boozing and boogieing. The Hand People’s set runs the gamut from Van Morrison's Them-era career-maker "Gloria" and Wilson Pickett's 1965 smash "In The Midnight Hour" to the ballsy stomper of a title track that wouldn't have sounded out of place at a Velvet Underground gig, and other early originals showing that the boys were starting to write their way out of the garage.

ALEX IZENBERG CARAVAN CHATEAU

"There’s all these little nuances lurking in the nooks and crannies, which elevates the song’s emotional pull, not to mention making it every bit as current as anything else you’re likely to hear; it’s one of those tunes straddling the past and the present.” AUSTIN TOWN HALL [On "Disraeli Woman"]

OVERVIEW Caravan Château—the beguiling 11-song reflection on the house of mirrors that is love— is the latest album from Los Angeles native singer/songwriter Alex Izenberg. Izenberg creates a sophisticated world of his own here, where songs that are somehow understated but lavish map the vagaries of our uncertain hearts the way wrinkles chronicle a lifetime of experience. With the help of a handful of collaborators including Chris Taylor (Grizzly Bear), Jonathan Rado (Foxygen, Whitney, Lemon Twigs), Ari Balouzian (Tobias Jesso Jr) and others, Izenberg creates songs that are easy to adore but hard to define. Izenberg’s sharp songs are the bait that first brings you into Caravan Château, but that deliberate ambiguity is what brings you back repeatedly, hoping to tease out the riddles of being inside these stunning tunes. Izenberg emerged in late 2016 with Harlequin, a fetching collection of hazy art-pop hymns praised for their “sweetness and heart.” Not long after the album’s release, Izenberg became emotionally unstable, though, beset by a failed relationship and inevitable post-debut questions about what came next. Diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia in 2012, Izenberg has spent a lifetime learning to cope with and overcome fear, to turn doubt into power rather than paralysis. For Izenberg, music is a lifeline, or the lens that helps him refocus the world and make sense of his mess of feelings. He pulls art and existence together as if by tensile wires, one giving necessary support to the other. On Caravan Château, the intensity of that connection radiates through every song, Izenberg working through some of life’s hardest feelings by writing songs as soft as his heart.

ALISON MOSSHART RISE OVERVIEW Fierce and fiery, a no-nonsense firestarter, Alison Mosshart is hardly a stranger to taking chances. Best known as one-half of acclaimed duo The Kills, when she’s not moonlighting as Baby Ruthless, the gnarly lead singer of blues-punk foursome The Dead Weather, Mosshart is a forever moving force. Over the years she’s collaborated with everyone from her Dead Weather bandmate Jack White to the Arctic Monkeys, Primal Scream, Gang Of Four, Cage The Elephant, Foo Fighters, James Williamson and Mini Mansions. But her new and boldest move yet finds her embracing her solo bonafides.

For a decade and a half, The Kills have mastered that savage balance, unleashing artful detonation and subtle vocal and guitar violence. That’s five albums and four EPs where Alison and Jamie reimagined the possibilities of modern duality—alchemizing garage rock, punk, and blues into smoke clouds, psychic carnage, and a smoldering nocturnal slink—into a northwest passage between Outkast and Suicide. Their last album, Ash & Ice (2016), was universally lauded, and their most recent release—a 2018 cover of Saul Williams’ “List Of Demands” b/w Peter Tosh’s “Stepping Razor”—came timed to the band’s 15th anniversary, leaving fans ravenous for more. For Mosshart, releasing music under her name is a new experience but an entirely thrilling one. It makes sense: Mosshart has been compiling a bank of unreleased music for more than a decade now. Back in 2013, Mosshart first wrote the initial sketch of “Rise,” which finds the singer intoning, “When the sky is falling/ and the sun is black/when the sky is coming down on ya/baby don’t look back/we will rise.” Like “Rise,” recorded with Lawrence Rothman, Mosshart had been sitting on “It Ain’t Water” for some time now as well. The stunning track was recorded with Alain Johannes (Queens of the Stone Age, PJ Harvey). Every time the singer found herself battling a bout of writer’s block, she’d pick up her guitar and sing it. For a multi-disciplinary artist like Mosshart—whose paintings have been shown in galleries across the world, and who recently published her first book, CAR MA, a collection of her art, photography and writing that doubles as a love letter to automobiles—working on a variety of projects, now including her own music, is exactly how she likes it. Currently, she is working with Jamie Hince on the next Kills record and dreams of the day in the hopefully not so distant future, (pandemic-willing) when they’ll be back on the road with exciting new music to share.

“My goal was to create something that sounded like a mental hug, a sonic embrace,” says singer/guitarist Julia Kugel (The Coathangers/White Woods) about the self-titled debut album by Long Beach duo Soft Palms. “Everything can feel so wild and out of control, I really wanted to create something you could sink into and use to calm those emotions.” To achieve this goal, Kugel and drummer/ percussionist Scott Montoya (formerly of The Growlers) threaded together sock hop rock n’ roll, scrappy dream pop, and ethereal torch songs into a sultry, spacey, and sublime journey towards brighter horizons. Though the album’s eight songs were written in fits and starts over the course of nearly a decade, Soft Palms ultimately came together over a two-year period as an extension of Kugel and Montoya’s broader musical ventures. Together they book the Happy Sundays music festival, run the non-profit Studio for Schools, and organize the events calendar Long Beach POP—all in an effort to celebrate, promote, and produce art and music through community and positivity. In the moments when the wife-andhusband team aren’t elevating and empowering other artists, they’ve channeled their passion into Soft Palms. Album opener “Baddy” sets the tone for the album by laying down a simple guitar line with a grandiose vocal melody run through Phil Spector’s wall-of-sound production. The vibe continues through “Rainbow” where Kugel’s lilting voice floats against a backdrop of hypnotic upbeat instrumentation and Montoya’s dubbed out studio effects. The album continues to be a feast of rich sounds and simple, comforting melodies—from the heavenly country waltz and cosmic slide guitar on “Oh Then Then” to the gentle fingerpicked guitar and string swells of the closing ballad “Not Love.” The entire album gives off an aura of intimacy while also creating a broader, pastel colored world—a duality achieved through the meticulous recording process at the couple’s home studio COMA. But more than anything, Soft Palms captures Kugel and Montoya’s unflappable positivity and energy and serves as yet another outlet for their ongoing work to make the world a better place.

Rival Consoles Articulation Format: 12“ clear vinyl in screenprinted PVC sleeve Extras: Download Code File under: Electronic · Box Lot: 20 LP Release Date: 07.31.2020 Ryan Lee West aka Rival Consoles announces details of his highly anticipated new album Articulation, released on Erased Tapes on 31 July 2020.

‘Articulation’, the lead track and album centrepiece, links the record back to the analogue fluidity and colour of 2016’s Night Melody. The division of varying time signatures, intertwined with a complex structure of notes, creates an expression of a moving structure and conjures a dreamy motorik energy. Ryan Lee West explains, "The title track is about articulation and playfulness with shape and time. Its structure is very machine-like, but I was really interested in how melody and sense of story could develop out of this, and it became an exploration of mathematical structures - patterns and shapes having a conversation. I love that something on paper can appear rigid and calculated, but then take on new meaning based on the context that surrounds it, or how it changes over time." Articulation (which follows 2018’s Persona) was conceived with a very visual way of thinking, unusual for the London musician and producer. During the writing process Ryan drew structures, shapes and patterns by hand to try and find new ways of thinking about music, giving himself a way to problem-solve away from the computer. The album title references a piece by the avant-garde contemporary composer Györgi Ligeti, though not for its music, but for the non-traditional graphic score that accompanied it. “I find electronic music is often battling to say something with integrity because technology and production can easily get in the way. I think the goal of a lot of electronic composers is to find a balance between the vision of the idea and the power of possibilities on the computer. With a pen and paper sketch you can compose and rethink ideas without technology getting in the way, so for me it acts as a very helpful tool to refresh the process.” - Ryan Lee West The idea of using analogue drawings and tools to bolster digital creations can be heard in the structure of the pieces that make up Articulation from the broody techno opener ‘Vibrations on a String’ all the way to the album’s boundless closer ‘Sudden Awareness of Now’. While the anthemic rise and fall of ‘Still Here’ and the beatless ambient meditation ‘Melodica’ evoke a certain nostalgia, ‘Forwardism’ achieves the very opposite by burying its melody within the fast-paced rhythm of its pulsating synths. Rising out of birdsong heard from his studio window, ‘Sudden Awareness of Now’ has a particular urgency about it and seems to perfectly capture a longing for escape. Built around a simple and repetitive melodic theme, expanding and retracting over the course of its seven-minute odyssey, Lee West explains; “I like the fact that if you say something over and over again in music, then over time it can become something else, something reflective.”

Since the release of Persona, Ryan Lee West has taken his captivating live A/V set to all corners of the world. Last seen live on stage with 17 players of the London Contemporary Orchestra for a sold-out orchestral performance at Southbank Centre’s Queen Elizabeth Hall in January 2020. Meanwhile Lee West has kept busy. After contributing an exclusive track titled ‘Them Is Us’ to Adult Swim’s coveted Singles series, he recently shared the beautifully textured solo piano piece Winter’s Lament on this year’s Piano Day. He has also been in high demand as a composer, scoring Charlie Brooker’s much talked about Black Mirror episode Striking Vipers, composing original music for Secret Cinema presents Stranger Things as well as renowned choreographer Alexander’s Whitley’s groundbreaking new work Overflow which was set to premiere at London’s Sadler’s Wells Theatre this spring. Articulation will be available worldwide on 31 July, with live activities to be announced as soon as the situation allows safe event planning. Praise for 2018’s Persona: “Album Of The Day” — BBC Radio 6 Music “Ambient leaning, mind expanding electronics” — DJ Magazine “West has made a career out of evoking human emotions with digital sounds” — Pitchfork “Unequivocally Rival Consoles’ finest work to date” (8/10) — Loud & Quiet “Without doubt Rival Consoles’ best yet” (8/10) — Crack Magazine “The strongest album of his career” — A Closer Listen

Berlin’s Cinthie has grown to become one of the most respected purveyors of house music, both as a DJ and producer, in Europe and across the globe over the past few years. Through the numerous imprints she’s headed up, her productions, her soul-infused DJ sets and even her own record store Cinthie has become a driving force in the contemporary electronic music scene. Here we see the culmination of Cinthie’s career, which spans more than two decades, pieced together to make up her debut long player, a tribute to all the things that have inspired her over the years, from Chicago House to New York Garage, European rave, Nu-Disco and years of experience behind the booth and keeping dance floor’s moving. Across the project tracks like ‘Houze Muzik’, ‘Concentrate’, ‘Morning In Melbourne’ and ‘Bassline ‘shine a light on Cinthie’s true love, authentic, soul drenched and raw House music. ‘2k Garage’, as the name would suggest, also nods to her love of the UK Garage sound and cuts like ‘City Lights’ and ‘No One Can Take You From Me’ lean towards Disco influences old and new. Further additions see Cinthie exploring new territories for the album format, experimenting with a downtempo aesthetic on opening track ‘Skylines’, textural electronica on ‘Flashback’ and Acid House nostalgia on ‘Calling’ and ‘Horizon’. ‘Skylines – City Lights’ beautifully showcases the life and inherent passion for electronic music Cinthie has, all perfectly weaved together across twelve compositions.

Crucial questions around healing, cultural identity, and disability are among the many subjects visited by Thanya Iyer's sophomore album, KIND. Although represented by a concise title, KIND explores an expansive universe where Iyer and her band examine interpersonal relationships, ideas of home and destination, and our collective responsibilities to one another. To aid in this journey of big, difficult questions, Iyer enlists the help of a huge cast of musicians, with guest features ranging from brass trios, vocal sextets, flautists, and harpists. Underscoring its explorative nature, the constant movement of KIND melds the sounds of experimental pop and improv into a magical amalgam that teems with flashes of jazz and nuanced electronics. Iyer's rhythm section pulsates with genre-defying palettes of blips and skitters that twist elegantly into the melodic voices of interlocking synth, strings, and piano, all led by Iyer's enrapturing lilt. The rhythmic direction of bassist Alexander Kasirer-Smibert and percussionist Daniel Gélinas clears a navigable path in an otherwise unnavigable setting, built on the pair's understated yet intriguing expertise.

Highlights: · The highly praised third album ""From The Stairwell"" of the Dutch cult ensemble from 2011 finally available again on cd & vinyl. · Together with Bohren und der Club of Gore and The Dale Cooper Quartet, The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble and The Mount Fuji Doomjazz Corporation through the years have succeeded in creating a brand new genre of music. Time to get absorbed again by this unique and fresh sound. The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble are a project which has always been tied to films. Films are luxurious because they dispose of all these boring, unimportant, and trivial parts of our lives. This allows them to fully control our sensations, to put us in a very specific mood. Joy and sadness are occasionally OK, endless joy or endless sadness are clinical. But there is one sensation which can be persistent and unconditionally bearable at the same time. In the absence of a better alternative, let's call it ""the mood"". The mood is what TKDE are aiming at. The mood. ""From The Stairwell"" is a surprise and a logical step at the same time. It is a surprise because the songs are far less beat-driven in comparison to TKDE's earlier works, and even contain a few hopeful tints here and there. It is a logical step because in the end each song turns to have a very diverse dramaturgic flow. At times, ""From The Stairwell"" makes you think of 60's soundtracks, but the organic feeling of those is always interwoven with mechanical elements. Altogether, every single of the numerous details present in TKDE's new songs feels to be at the right place and you can either just dive into the mood or pick one of the many aspects and enjoy it on its own.

The sound of MANSUR navigates between the waters of musical fantasy and reality - it morphs and blends traditional instrumentation with modern day electronica. Using kalimba, violin, cello, ney, erhu, zhonghu, jinhu, kemenche, dilruba, bansuri, rammerdam, double bass and various percussive instruments such as cajon, castanets, krotal and various organic shakers and drums MANSUR leads the listener into mystical and magical unknowns, that lie far past the realms of material perception. The result is a new unique sound which is at the same time warm, dark, misty, cosmic, mystical, cinematic and dynamic. It's an escapist journey. MANSUR are starting this trip with the five-piece debut record called "Temple" followed by the debut album "Karma" in late 2020.

Highlights: · Robin Schlochtermeier is an Anglo-German composer who has written the music for several award-winning broadcast documentaries and features. · Most recently Robin composed the music for 'The Spy Who Fell to Earth', an international espionage documentary which was released on Netflix worldwide in spring 2019. · Spectral is his first solo album. "Spectral" is the first solo album of Robin Schlochtermeier. It's a set of slow pieces that function like distant echoes of childlike experiences of the natural and material world. Spectral was recorded using a British upright piano from the 1950s with original worn strings, which are occasionally dampened with poster putty. The other elements are all forms of electronics and sound design, including a software synth and custom programmed sounds generated from the composer’s bank of original sample recordings. One of the aims for the album was to explore a limited palette of sounds. Some pieces only contain 3 layers of sound, while some are a little more complex. “The intention was to create space and openness in the arrangements”, according to Robin. “This principle also led me to explore longer and longer forms. As I went on I felt increasingly drawn to longer emotional arcs, resulting finally in Sonnenstaub."

Highlights: · The holy trinity of krautrock, ambient and contemporary electronica, but always sophisticated and unique Sankt Otten. · The 11th release of the German duo. · mastered by Rafael Anton Irisarri. A very gentle and meditativ sequence introduces us to this new creation. Is it a synthesizer or a guitar? Whatever! A floating pad passes and returns, layers and shapes are rising. At the end the interaction of man and technology merges into perfect harmony. We are heading monumentally towards a futuristic world, which is frigid and surreal with a monotonous, sometimes gloomy and dark mood. Man and machine are going hand in hand, infused by a hypnotic, motor function 808 beat, encouraging everyone to head-nodding by being almost danceable. Again, the central theme of this release is definitely the minimal, repetitive drum play of Stephan Otten, whereas Oliver Klemm’s ebow guitar drones hovers the tracks. Sankt Otten do not disappoint. With their 11th release, they give us a gem of timeless instrumental music. The holy trinity of krautrock, ambient and contemporary electronica, but always sophisticated and unique Sankt Otten.

Highlights: · 2020 Reissue of "Succubus" - the second work of The Mount Fuji Doomjazz Corporation (the improvisation alter ego of The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble) from 2009. Seductive but perilous, The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble's session under the Mount Fuji Doomjazz Corporation name is a new combination of drones and jazz. Creating sensual, murky and dark atmospheres, “Succubus” the evolution of this band, with stronger horns and a focus on hypnotic, soundtrack-like material. A deep, dark and yet seductive trip again for the corporation. After the corpses, the succubus. Faithful to the original The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble concept of drawing inspiration from movies, they recording what later became “Succubus” while watching Jess Franco's film of the same name. This iconic 1969 movie, with its strong erotic mood, fragmented story line and oneiric photography encompasses perfectly the goal and means of TKDE / TMFJDC, in the way the band builds mesmerizing, deep and otherworldly atmospheres. More jazz-oriented than their heavier first album ""Doomjazz Future Corpses"", “Succubus” leaves more room to Charlotte Cegarra's vocals and Hilary Jeffery's trombone, while the narrative is still led by Gideon Kiers's drums and Jason Kohnen's bass. Additional improvised charm by Eelco Bosman on guitar and Sarah Anderson on violin. Succubus” displays the “corporation” in its most macabre yet entrancing side. Audio cinema has seldom sounded so lustful like on this album.
