Black Vinyl LP w/ printed inner + digital download TRICK and RULES, two early albums from the prodigious Philadelphian singer-songwriter Alex G, are now back in stock on vinyl. Alex’s third and fourth albums were originally self-released digitally on his Bandcamp, but received the physical attention they deserved following the release of his breakthrough fifth album DSU, remastered and issued on vinyl in 2015 for the first time. With three more original albums released since, Alex’s cult-like fanbase, which includes the likes of Frank Ocean, only ever increases, and these records remain firm favourites as more and more fans discover his prolific back catalogue. Songs like “Mary”, “Mis” and “Change” are soaked in the distinctive personality of Alex G, displaying a serious knack for melodic songwriting underneath unconventional guitar lines and scrawls of fuzz. These records only reaffirm that Alex G continues to be one of the most distinctive American musicians today.

and Nick Yacyshyn (Baptists) push further into the polarity of their sound with longform composition and free-form exploration. Meticulously detailed and complex one moment, rudimentary and repetitive the next, and completely untethered and unscripted at seemingly random—May You Be Held is an album that fluctuates between extreme discipline and control and an almost feral energy. “As an artist in this time of significant upheaval, society seemingly having reached the end of its current iteration, it’s of critical importance to absorb and interpret this process of dissolution - and of the transformation that hopefully follows it” says Turner, “While I don’t believe we’re on the brink of collective destruction precisely now, this is clearly a pivotal stage in the story of humankind - and there is something that feels right about this music at this exact and very uncertain moment.”
SUMAC’s work has always been about transition between different states of being, and it’s a fundamental aspect of May You Be Held’s larger themes. Musically, it’s continual unification and divergence—and the uncertainty in that cycle. In that uncertainty there is also hope, frustration, madness, and desire for connection. All this too is part of this moment in our history—everything happening at once, the simultaneous emergence of humanity’s best and worst characteristics. Lyrically, May You Be Held follows the humanistic themes explored on Love in Shadow, partially informed by Turner’s navigation of fatherhood and family life. Here, Turner’s bellows and howls seem less threatening than wounded, primal, and mammalian. On guitar, his subversion of melody and penchant for noise seems less like aural punishment and more like an open horizon for frequencies and timbre. In a traditional metal context, drummer Nick Yacyshyn’s dexterous beats, exhilarating fills, and creative flourishes might seem like the pinnacle of rhythmic ferocity, but on May You Be Held there’s a kind of ecstasy in his performance, a fluidity and ability that conveys both urgency in purpose and joy in execution. Bassist Brian Cook glues it together with a heavy handedness that could be seen as hostile or malicious if it didn’t also provide the clearest path to navigating the band’s thorny arrangements. E V A N G E L I N E W A L T Z Louisiana’s BeauSoleil has been the very heartbeat of Cajun music and culture, keeping it vital through not only their attention to tradition, but also through passionate and inventive experimentation. On EVANGELINE WALTZ the ensemble finds freshness not by infusing vintage styles with contemporary sonics but with vibrant, thoughtful fusions. Preserving traditional Cajun music remains their focus, yet leader Michael Doucet keeps its lifeblood circulating here by selectively absorbing contemporary and other sounds compatible with the band’s repertoire. That move accentuates a fact many know but some prefer to ignore: Traditional roots styles never remained static. Now in its 47th year, BeauSoleill manages to shine as both a dance band and a concert act. “We realized we could reach a new audience,” Doucet said. “We’d been playing for Cajun dancers and your folk music types, but when we played these performing arts centers, we had a more diverse audience, so we wanted our music to be more diverse. We wanted to sound like a Cajun band on stuff that wasn’t the usual Cajun band material. We had to work at it, but the effort paid off. Even though we’re still pegged as a Cajun dance band today, people are surprised when they hear what we can do.” On this LIMITED EDITION 2 CD package, Beausoleill performs to a ‘small living room’ audience in their hometown. BeauSoleil is doing what Cajun musicians have always done: they’re listening to the radio in their heads and turning it into new Cajun music. “It was a magical night,” Michael says.

45 GRAVE: SLEEP IN SAFETY (Limited Green & Black Marble Vinyl Edition) STREET DATE: OCTOBER 2, 2020 Formed from putrefying remnants of The Germs, The Consumers, The Bags, The Gun Club, and The Screamers among other L.A. punk outfits, 45 Grave were arguably the first American Goth/deathrock band and inarguably one of the best. Fronted by the Exene-meets-Barbarella vocal and visual stylings of Dinah Cancer (still one of the greatest stage names in a punk rock genre full of ‘em), 45 Grave also featured Paul B. Cutler on guitar, Don Bolles on drums, Rob (Ritter) Graves on bass, and Paul Roessler on keyboards, and from that all-star line-up came 1983’s Sleep in Safety, their lone studio release and only recording with the band’s original members. Probably most famous for the first appearance of the horrifyingly graphic, true-crime track “Partytime,” the single version of which was subsequently cut in 1985 and featured on The Return of the Living Dead soundtrack, Sleep in Safety also offered the early MTV track “Evil” and the band “theme song” “45 Grave” among other blandishments for those who like their rock and roll with a side of the macabre. For our Real Gone Music exhumation of this classic record, we have “embalmed” a very special edition, preserving the original album’s gatefold edition complete with lyrics and adding a custom inner sleeve drawn from the band’s very rare “A Tale of Strange Phenomena” press release—limited edition of 450 in green & black marble vinyl! When Filmation Studios landed a late-‘60s hit with the Saturday morning cartoon TV show The Archies, it wasn’t long before it started looking for more “sugar” with a similarly musicthemed follow-up. Inspired by the success of such shows as The Munsters and The Addams Family, penned by a couple of writers for Laugh-In, and featuring the voice of F-Troop’s Larry Storch, Groovie Goolies first aired in September 1970 as a pairing with the Archies spin-off Sabrina, the Teenage Witch. Though it only lasted 16 episodes, the Groovie Goolies cult lasts to this day (even inspiring the name of the S.F. punk band The Groovie Ghoulies). Why? One guess—the music! Just like The Archies did with Andy Kim, Ron Dante, and Jeff Barry, Groovie Goolies brought A-list talent to the task of composing and performing two songs for every episode, including Dick Monda and, for this album, Sherry Gayden and Janet Martin a.k.a. Richard Delvy and Ed Fournier of the surf-rock band The Challengers (that’s Fournier dressed as Wolfie on the back cover). And playing in the band: legendary guitarist Larry Carlton and Elvis Presley drummer Ron Tutt! The whole record has a very Archies vibe with some very groovy, er, groovie touches, like the fuzztone guitar on “Save Your Good Lovin’ for Me,” the wah-wah on on “Frankie” and even some sitar. Little wonder, then, that original copies of this 1970 record trade for big bucks…our first-ever vinyl reissue of Groovie Goolies comes in FrankenGreen Vinyl limited to 500 copies, and our first-ever CD release includes liner notes by Bill Kopp featuring an interview with Dick Monda! STREET DATE: OCTOBER 2, 2020 Fittingly enough, The Cool Ghoul himself, John Zacherle, passed away right around Halloween in 2016, and now we here at Real Gone Music are celebrating his “deathday” by releasing his incredibly rare album Zacherle’s Monster Gallery, originally issued on the budget Elektra imprint Crestview, on clear with pumpkin splatter vinyl limited to 500 copies! This record was originally released in 1963, and was actually a copy of the 1960 Elektra album Spook Along with Zacherley, except for one very important detail: the cover art to the Crestview release was inked by legendary Mad Magazine artist Jack Davis, who actually passed away in 2016 as well. Which probably explains why original copies of this record are selling for about $150 if you can find them…So consider this release a twin tribute to two guys who brought a big smile to millions of kids, especially those on the East Coast that used to see Zach present all those cheesy horror movies on TV. R.I.P., Zach and Jack!

STREET DATE: OCTOBER 2, 2020 We’ve reissued a lot of “cult” albums at Real Gone Music. But of all the releases we’ve put out, this is the cult-iest of them all. That’s because it’s actually an occult album, the first record to bring Satanic themes to rock music. The upside down crosses, the “devil’s horns” hand’s signs that are commonplace with metal bands both past and present…they all started here. Coven even had a bassist named Oz Osborne…and the first track on the album was entitled “Black Sabbath,” for, er, heaven’s sake! So there’s no question that this 1969 album dealt with the devil first. While subsequent bands exploited demonic imagery and occult themes for commercial success and sensationalism, Coven were true (un)believers. Thus, the last track on the album, “Satanic Mass,” is a full Black Mass, the only recording of its kind, while the double-gatefold album jacket—which we have faithfully reproduced—not only displays a picture of Coven’s lead vocalist, Jinx Dawson, splayed naked across a ritualistic altar surrounded by hooded members of the band and its associates, but also includes the full text of a Black Mass along with lyrics to the unabashedly Satan-worshipping songs. In the end, Witchcraft was a little too far ahead of its time; coming out in 1969, at the height of hysteria about Satanism whipped up by the Manson Family murders, the album generated a firestorm of reaction, which turned into an inferno when Manson himself was photographed holding a copy of the record. The album was recalled, Dunwich withdrew support, and the band bounced around a couple of other labels before going on hiatus in 1976. But Coven remains a crucial, if underrecognized, influence on hard rock and heavy metal. Now, Witchcraft Destroys Minds and Reaps Souls is reincarnated with full artwork intact and a limited fire (orange) and brimstone (pale blue) vinyl pressing. Whether approached as a cultural artifact, a totemic fetish, a camp classic, or just really cool music, it will cast a spell on you.

This 1995 film starred William Sadler as the Demon Knight, who, along with his new recruit, Jada Pinkett Smith, is charged with fending off The Collector (Billy Zane) and his army of demons from acquiring an ancient relic that is the only thing preventing the complete destruction of the human race. While the flick did meh box office and was panned critically, the soundtrack was easily one of the best of its era and of its kind, an all-star line-up of thrash and heavy metal acts mostly doing otherwise unavailable material (only the track by Pantera appears to have been released prior to the movie). The Pantera, Megadeth, Melvins, and Biohazard entries are particulary good, and the one hip hop tune on the collection, Gravediggaz’ “1-800-Murder,” is an archetypal “horrorcore” rap song. But perhaps the best tune is “Hey Man Nice Shot” by Filter, an outfit that hadn’t released anything prior to this soundtrack. Since this movie came out in 1995, it only came out on LP in Europe at the time; our Real Gone reissue brings it back on green “Demon Eye” vinyl limited to 400 copies!

Well, despite the subhead on the album proclaiming them as “The Newest Teen-Age Singing Group,” they didn’t…but that didn’t stop the label execs at Decca Records from trying to cash in on the new CBS hit TV show! Veteran producers Joe Hooven and Hal Winn had the good sense to hire the Wrecking Crew (most notably Glen Campbell and Leon Russell) to play this surf-tinged set of songs, and brought in The Go-Go’s (nope, not those GoGo’s, they were just out of diapers…this was a male vocal trio that cut one LP for RCA back in 1964, the same year this record came out) to sing the lyrics to such gems as “You Created a Monster” and “Make It Go Away.” The whole thing is a hoot, and a highly collectible hoot at that—original copies of this album command “monstrous” sums! Aaron Kannowski remastered our reissue, and we’ve pressed up a limited edition in pumpkin orange with black splatter vinyl…get ready to do the Munster creep this Halloween and beyond!

Until your neighbor’s dog contracts rabies, kills its owner, and then comes after you! With such emotional extremes, Cujo was not an easy movie to score, but when Stephen King’s classic novel came to the screen in 1983 starring Dee Wallace and Daniel Hugh-Kelly with Lewis Teague directing, composer/conductor Charles Bernstein (A Nightmare on Elm Street) proved mightily up to the task. In addition to employing harsh synthesizer effects and dissonant orchestral layers leading up to the climactic showdown between Mom and beast, Bernstein also penned a tender theme expressing the gentle joys of family life. Unfortunately, post production woes mixed up some cues and caused the score to be abbreviated in the film; Intrada’s recent CD release presented Bernstein’s work for the first time as it was originally recorded, and that’s where the 18 tracks on our vinyl release come from, with new (and terrifying) cover art. Our “Pinto Yellow with Blood Red Splatter” vinyl edition commemorates a particularly horrifying scene…limited to just 400 copies!

Rian Treanor returns to Planet Mu for his second album "File Under UK Metaplasm". In 2018, Treanor left his home of Rotherham, a working class town in the North of England not far from rave nexus Sheffield, and headed to Uganda. He'd been invited to perform at Nyege Nyege festival, a mythical event that takes place on the shores of Lake Victoria in Jinja once a year. After nearly a week of almost non-stop syncopated bass, Treanor drove to the country's capital city Kampala to produce music for a month at the Nyege Nyege's Boutique Studio - an incubator that serves as a central hub for the record label and its many harmonic ventures.

A week later, while he was performing at Hollywood, the tiny dive bar that housed the Nyege Nyege crew's first events, Treanor began to think differently about the sound he'd been developing since 2015's acclaimed "A Rational Tangle". "Everyone was still beaming after the festival, full of energy and wanting it raw and fast," he explains. Treanor had been collaborating with Acholi fiddle player Ocen James, and absorbing sounds from the other producers at the studio like Tanzania's Jay Mitta and Sisso and Glasgow experimental duo The Modern Institute. The result was a jerky blend of hybridized footwork and singeli (Tanzania's own lightning-fast dance sound) that clocked in at a rapid 200bpm. "I played a Jlin track at the wrong speed and it was about 225bpm,” he admits. "But it sounded really good so I went with it. People were going mental, it was so much fun." Arriving home, inspired by the singeli production process, he focused on energy, building tracks and exploring urgency as the guiding method. Over the course of the year Treanor refined these ideas, building from raw components and eventually focusing on engineering the physicality of the sound. And at the end of 2019 he had the opportunity to tour Japan, where he was able to work out the finishing touches performing on some of the world's best soundsystems. This polarity - the enigmatic, sweaty energy of singeli juxtaposed with slick, high-def bass weight - sits at the centre of "File Under UK Metaplasm", Treanor's second full-length. Opening track 'Hypnic Jerks' is maybe the perfect example of this, with crinkled percussive loops cut through by machine-gun kicks and acidic wobbles. Elsewhere, 'Vacuum Angle' takes Sheffield's Warp-ed legacy and brings it crashing into the future, with rhythms collapsing into static and noise but never deconstructing or losing the flow. 'Debouncing' meanwhile folds gliding square synths into rattling dancehall kicks, joining the dots between SND, Equiknoxx, Wiley and MCZO & Duke with a neon Sharpie. "It's using all those formulaic dance structures but just slightly mangled or messed up," he says. "I'm still focused on making functioning dance music for clubs, but I'm really interested in how far you push that before it's just like - no."

Shutups immediately followed the release of Zen by recording their sophomore album, which was ultimately delayed by the COVID 19 pandemic. Stuck in quarantine, Hadley wrote a handful of new songs, recorded them in a blanket fort vocal booth, tracked Mia’s drums on an iPhone and titled it “5”. Shutups 5th EP is their most reserved and mature release to date. Occupied by themes of isolation, family and distancing from friends, 5 is both gloomy and hopeful. “I feel like we’re operating two different Shutups trajectories now, the EPs and LPs both having two distinct flavors”, says Hadley. “The EPs are slowing down, with more emphasis on chord changes and accessible hooks, while the LPs are catering to a more riff heavy, cinematic sound”. Recorded at Rittenhouse Soundworks in Philadelphia, the new recording represents the continuation of a heartfelt rebirth of the Arkestra under Allen’s guidance since Sun Ra left the planet in 1993, gaining new generations of followers from their regular touring across the globe. Buffalo Tom (Bill Janovitz, Chris Colbourn and Tom Maginnis) formed at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1984 - a breeding ground of post punk guitar bands like Dinosaur Jr. and Pixies. The three longstanding bandmates recognize the achievement of their longevity as a creative unit. Initially offering a raw, propulsive sound that emphasized Janovitz’s imposing guitar squall on such early releases as 1989’s Buffalo Tom and 1990’s Birdbrain, Buffalo Tom’s early approach gave way to a more melodic, yet no less distinctive, style on 1992’s Let Me Come Over (including the hit ballad “Taillights Fade”), 1993’s Big Red Letter Day (including the hit “Soda Jerk”) and 1995’s Sleepy Eyed. Their friendship with J. Mascis helped the band’s career take off by assisting with the production on the band’s first two albums; their self-titled debut, and Birdbrain. Since Birdbrain’s release 30 years ago, many songs from it album have become live favorites including the epic title track “Birdbrain”, and “Enemy”. Trouser Press wrote that “[Birdbrain] boasts most of Buffalo Tom’s best songs.” Buffalo Tom continues to make fantastic music, and they only get better with age. Their most recent album Quiet and Peace, came out in 2018.

This music does not come out of nowhere. It comes from a guitar amplifier and a drum kit, and you are standing directly in front of them. And it’s beautiful, all dozen tracks of the Gunn-Truscinski Duo’s Soundkeeper: beautiful loud exchanges between Steve Gunn’s shimmerblast guitar and John Truscinski’s outside-in drums, beautiful quiet exchanges that hum, beautiful melodies that evoke long-lost screen worlds and old filmstock, beautiful phrases that telescope into saturating pinwheels. With a decade-long partnership that’s far more like a real band than their discography might imply, Soundkeeper is the duo’s fourth proper album. No one-off blowing session carved into tracks, Soundkeeper is a focused realization of the pair’s full dynamic sweep. It’s music that goes straight for it, ecstasy and flotation and otherness, neither songs nor jams. Perhaps more like windows. Or events. It’s music that immediately goes out, gets out, stays out, has always been out, a glowing radius around the amp and drum kit, intimate even at volume. On Soundkeeper, they look into the space past Gunn’s overloaded acoustic 12-string (“Curtain”), project movies in the sky over an empty beach (“Ocean City”), trace cloud shapes with muted drums and 6-string (“Windows”), and find expansive drumless horizons with Truscinski on lead drone (“Northwest”). Sequenced with intention, finding the right pieces of music and thought and conversation out of numerous hours of recording, Soundkeeper is more stated than statement, a vision shaped from openness, presented whole. Though rooted in the loose lo-fi noise scenes of the early aughts, when Gunn focused on experimentation and Truscinski tumbled with western Massachusetts units like X.O.4., the pair’s music often feels like sailing towards calmer waters, emphasis on towards. Born in parallel to Gunn’s emergent career as a lyrical guitarist and taut songwriter, it’s not hard to hear the ingrained sense of yearning melody that ties the two parts of the guitarist’s music together. And though John Truscinski is the drummer in the Gunn-Truscinski Duo, his other musical ventures--including his recent solo debut Bridle Path--rarely involve drums at all, holding or negating space with drones and microtonal washes and what Steve calls “focused void.” Together, Gunn and Truscinski wield themselves as a tool of the third voice, sometimes together by themselves, sometimes together with others, expanding to a quartet with Body/Head’s Kim Gordon and Bill Nace to record and perform a soundtrack for the Andy Warhol film Kiss in 2019. While the bulk of Soundkeeper is drawn from sessions at Sonelab in western Massachusetts and Echo Canyon in Hoboken, two of the album’s anchor pieces (the 10-minute “Pyramid Merchandise” and the 16-minute title track) come from shows recorded at the band’s virtual home venue of Brooklyn’s Union Pool. With the familiar backroom clatter audible at first, the pair’s collective thought shimmers and coalesces in riots of sound, different elements popping into view like characters from a cartoon tornado or melodies emerging from overtones, sounding for a few seconds like a basement noise session, a dreamy Yo La Tengo jam, an ESP-Disk’ fire music manifesto, a Michael Chapman mourn, inside patterns and outside blasts. This music does not come out of nowhere.

Unremembered, Remembered - CD
Unremembered, Remembered is a mini-album containing six demos (the seventh will never be heard) which were recorded sometime between 1995 and 1996, when The Wolfgang Press had become the duo of Andrew Gray and Michael Allen. Writing and recording in East London against a backdrop of economic uncertainty, the Brixton riots, Rosemary West’s trial, the Dunblane Massacre, the IRA docklands bombing and Take That splitting, all of which proved good material to be plundered by the band. However, with them deciding to call it a day shortly after, these tracks were shelved to then be forgotten. Having recently rediscovered the studio tapes, the band had them mastered at Abbey Road and then enlisted long-time collaborator Chris Bigg to design the artwork. The LP version of this is a RSD2020 release, and the cd version is out on October 9th and contains a 16 page booklet.

Moon Piano CAT NO: WAST059LP (12”) UPC: 5060384618524 (12”) RELEASE DATE: October 9th, 2020 Overview: A companion volume to the Sun Piano album, this LP was recorded at the same session in a Brooklyn Church. Whereas the former record lent itself to the more uplifting side of Laraaji’s keyboard improvisations, Moon Piano explores the more introspective and minimal pieces captured by Jeff Zeigler (Kurt Vile, The War On Drugs, Mary Lattimore) and edited by Christian Havins (Dallas Acid). Laraaji describes this set of tracks as “Contemplative sound painting, embracing quiet tranquil unfolding of nurturing reflection”. In a recent interview with Aquarium Drunkard, Laraaji described the improvisatory process of making both piano albums: “I’d sit down, touch the piano and through free association, also blending it with my prepared mental state, I was able to tune in and affirm my highest sense of presence. The piano became an instrument for the imagination to suggest higher or finer worlds, to suggest joy, euphoria, bliss, also to suggest silence, minimalism, relaxation, and contemplation. So, all of that music was spontaneous but with those influences shaping and guiding it along the way.” Whilst Moon Piano almost shades into melancholy with a contrasting nighttime vibe to Sun Piano’s daytime joyfulness, certain themes from the first record reoccur - side two’s “Pentatonic Smile” is a longer edit on the central riff underpinning the former album’s “Temple Of New Light”. Sun Piano has been widely praised as a new phase in the new age icon’s career, picked as The Guardian’s contemporary album of the month, subject of a major feature in The Washington Post, and the artist’s special home-recorded lockdown sessions have been broadcast by BBC 6 Music, Resident Advisor and Boiler Room. Moon Piano is the second release in a trilogy which will culminate in an extended EP of piano/autoharp duets.

On The Clearing, Tone repurposes motifs from scifi to convey the workings of the mind. He explains: “When I allude to ‘space’, I am referring to the mind or the imagination. ompassion is a cycle of music born of the need for healing.
It’s a great moment in life to realize when healing is required. No matter how broken in body and spirit, to be able to recognize what is needed — that something is needed at all — is the beginning of relief. Jim Becker has been playing music for several decades, in Chicago and around the world, with lengthy tenures in Califone and Iron & Wine and many additional production and playing credits to his name. Lama Lobsang Palden is a gifted energy healer, teaching Yantra Yoga and Buddhist meditation. As a young boy, he was recognized as a tulku — a reincarnation of a Nyingma guru yoga master. Following the path, he studied all aspects of Buddhist philosophy in Tibet and India and has taught meditation, yoga and the Buddhist Dharma all over the world. The relationship that allowed Lama and Jim to make this record started with treatment, three years before the record was begun. Jim went to the Lama for healing, to address the many aches and ills that medicine couldn’t seem to heal. As Jim was leaving his first session, the Lama said to him, “You and me, we make a record.” It would be years and many other life events before a record could be undertaken, much less completed. It was a long road
ahead to becoming whole, but that was the beginning. Jim found the therapy sessions both personally restorative and stimulating. As a musician, Lama’s use of chants, bells, gongs and percussion in his practice resonated within him. A listener to all kinds of music, Jim understood that the recording would have to represent more than a straightforward capture of performance. Among other possibilities he heard in response to Lama’s music, he was inspired by the soundtracks in Satyajit Ray films, where the realities of life shown on the screen are accompanied by a climatic dreamscape of sound representing inner emotional and spiritual depths. This perspective gives the music of Compassion a wide space in which to place the listener, with Lama’s music at its center. In 2013, they began at Lama’s house, recording on a Tascam Portastudio. Sessions stretched out over a year. Intent on an organic, acoustic sound-bed, Jim chose his instruments carefully, tuning to the drum skin or pitch of a gong. Then they’d play music! Lama’s performances and Jim’s accompaniment, filling first the channels of a 4-track cassette tape, then tape after tape with more music. As their horizons expanded, they included some sounds from the world outside — rain falling, waves breaking — with an eye toward the greater encompassing reality of the finished set.
Finally, when they’d compiled nearly 450 minutes of performances, the music was bounced from 4-track to ProTools at Jim’s home studio, and he began the process of culling complimentary pieces to flow as one. Lama was receptive to Jim’s inspiration, making himself available to any idea. In this fashion, further overdubs and edits brought the arrangements of the songs and the album into shape. In addition to the many roles and instruments that the Lama and Jim played, music was played by Rob Frye, Teddy Rankin-Parker, Rob Mazurek, Becca Wilcox, Becca Ridge, Marion Jackson, Yngrid Diaz, with Quinn Tsan, Becky Levi and Clara Palden adding additional voices. The 43 minutes that comprise Compassion are a deeply felt and wide-ranging musical synesthesia, a telescoped recapitulation of all the time over which they were conceived — for Jim, this was a recapitulation of years of experiences, some happy, some difficult; many moods and places, alone and in the company of different people and thoughts passing through. For Lama Lobsang Palden, this was a chance to teach about the relaxation of the mind, the Tibetan mantra, and most importantly, to allow people to know his heart through his chants and music. A transcendent collaborative encounter, Compassion is an epic piece of music about the epic search for the same.
