Whether your goal is to lose weight or reduce stress, research shows that people who spend time outside in nature are healthier both mentally and physically. We invite you to incorporate visits to your parks as part of your path to better health. Redding Parks & Recreation is the gateway to a healthy, prosperous and connected community. On any given day, someone is being positively affected through parks and recreation, whether they are taking a walk on a trail or fitness class at one of our facilities, enjoying one of our many programs or just reaping the benefits of clean air and water because of preserved open space. The benefits that your local parks and recreation bring to their communities are demonstrated with the National Recreation & Parks Association’s Three Pillars: Conservation Parks are dedicated to preserving natural resources in the community. Local and regional parks play a leadership role in protecting open space, connecting children to nature and providing education and programming that help communities engage in conservation practices. Health and wellness Local and regional parks are on the forefront of improving the health and wellness of their community’s citizens. Beyond promoting physical activity with their vast networks of open space, athletic facilities and trail systems, local and regional parks combat poor nutrition, hunger, obesity and physical inactivity. Social equity Local and regional parks are treasured resources that are available to everyone, regardless of age, race and income. Local and regional park agencies ensure that all members of the community have access to open space and recreational opportunities. Be Active and Be Well,

This class is designed as an introduction to the sport. Participants will learn proper paddling, safety, maneuvers, and familiarize themselves with Stand-Up Paddleboarding. SUP is an emerging global sport with a Hawaiian heritage. It utilizes a one-bladed paddle, while standing on a normal length surfboard. SUP has moved out of the surf zone and into inland waterways around the country. Flat water SUPing is a healthy, low-impact, and environmentally friendly paddle sport that appeals to both the young and the young-at-heart.
