It is with pleasure that we present 16 District Managers to the Spotlight readers. Eight of them are from the New York Division, five from the Kansas C i t y Division, and three from the Los Angeles Division. In approximately

sixteen years as a Manager she has appointed over two thousand Representatives, of whom many are still members of our organization. Through the outstanding work she has done, Mrs. Merwin has reached the higher rungs of the ladder of success. Her vibrant personality has been a great asset to her in her work. • Mrs. Beulah M. Runyan. Since April, 1941 when she was selected as a District Manager, Mrs. Runyan has made wonderful strides in her new profession. This is to be attributed to her charming personality which is combined with unusual talent. A long and successful career is prophesied for this member of Avon's travelling force. • Mrs. Jason Brendum. 1 fere's another outstanding newcomer to the District Managers' ( >rganization. Her first anniversary in her present position will be celebrated next April. One might describe Mrs. Brendum as a human dynamo of energy—she's always "on the go." This undoubtedly accounts for the rapid progress she has made as a capable appointment maker. • Mrs. William J. Price. In b e c o m i n g a c quainted with Mrs. Price, one immediately is won over by her pleasant and sincere manner. These are but two of the many fine characteristics possessed by this District Manager. Real leadership on her part is reflected by the success of the Representatives she appoints. Although quite new in appointment work Mrs. Price certainly has a bright future.

Mrs. Lula T. Beckham. Four years ago Mrs. Beckham became a District Manager. Since then she has appointed hundreds of outstanding Representatives. Not only that, but she has trained many new Managers who today are enjoying the same success as she is. In all her undertakings she always puts forth her best efforts. Loyalty to her company and her friends makes Mrs. Beckham an outstanding individual. • Mrs. Annette G. Buzick. For over eight years Mrs. Buzick has been an Avon District Manager. As Avon has progressed, so has she. To hundreds she is known by the friendly, unforgettable chuckle in her laugh, and rarely-equalled sense of humor. Mrs. Buzick's many fine qualities have sent her steadily up the ladder of success. •

Mrs. Eleanor L. Hash. Twenty years ago Mrs. Hash began her career as a District Manager. During these many years she has made a name for herself in our organization. In addition she was able to give her son a good education and prepare him for the responsible position he holds today. Mrs.

Hash's pleasing personality and business ability have made her an idol among Man agers and Axon Representatives. • Mrs. Margaret N. Harvey. It's somewhat over a year since the company called Mrs. Harvey to step into a District Manager's position. That not only was a promotion for her but for Avon, too. Another very successful partnership was formed which is demonstrated most creditably every time Mrs. Harvey places a new Representative.

Mrs. Ha/el N. Moore I.os Angeles Miss Mae L. Gorton Los Angeles

Mrs. T. C. Penaluna Kansas City

These short biographical notes cannot do justice to their personalities or t o their wonderfully successful Avon careers. However, we hope they will give you an inkling of what really fine people these women are. Avon is proud of its District Managers, for they are our good-will ambassadors. Wherever they go, they spread Avon's fame and add to their personal glory. Miss Mae L. Gorton. A l t h o u g h h a v i n g been an Avon District Manager for only a short time, Miss Gorton has endeared herself to the hearts of many women by her business-like methods, alertness, and the lively twinkle in her eyes. The State of California is proud to claim Miss Gorton as a native daughter. • Mrs. Hazel N. Moore. Avon Representatives everywhere will be happy to learn that Mrs. Moore has proved herself extremely capable as an Avon District Manager. Her cheerfulness and deep interest are real assets in her work of appointing new Representatives. Ambition, loyalty, and dependability are only a few of her qualities. • Mrs. T. C. Penaluna. It gives us great pleasure to congratulate Mrs. Penaluna on her twenty-fifth anniversary as a District Manager. Loyalty and sincere effort on her part have resulted in this wonderfully successful record. Throughout these many years she has appointed thousands of Representatives who remember her as a most understanding person and are grateful to her for showing them the Avon way to independence. • Mrs. C. J. Raines. In her seven years as a Manager, Mrs. Raines has certainly done her part in making Avon a progressive organization. A jovial personality and a winning smile are only a few of Mrs. Raines' qualifications. Her keen judgment of personalities has enabled her to select star Representatives who are a credit to her and to themselves.

Mrs. Maude R. Gillespie. Mrs. Gillespie, who comes from Maine, first started travelling in 1925. She discontinued after a number of years and resumed in June, 1940. Since that time she has established a most successful record. Her face will be familiar to numerous Representatives in the New England States. Mrs. Gillespie is a firm believer in the opportunities that exist with Avon and backs up that belief with results. • Miss Leona Lockhart. Since becoming a District Manager a little more than one year ago, Miss Lockhart has travelled rather extensively in the East. Today she is doing a very nice job and we feel she is sure to develop into one of our top-ranking Managers before 1942 has ended. We are indebted to West Virginia for this Manager. • Miss Dorothy M. Davis. Although she has been travelling only a little more than one year, Miss Davis has started many fine Representatives along the road to success. A native of Michigan, she has worked exclusively in Ohio and Pennsylvania. With her personality, industry and ability to make friends we forecast a brilliant future for her. • Mrs. Marjorie Adgate. T h i s M a n a g e r started on the road in 1939 but found it necessary to return home in the fall of 1940. Before she resumed travelling last spring, she again acted as a Representative in her home town and did very well. Mrs. Adgate's own sales experience has proved invaluable to her as a District Manager. Today a substantial number of Representatives owe their success to her efforts.

Happiness and Satisfaction Come In Greates Mrs. Maria G. Cadena Is Educating Her Two Children In the Cadena home in Texas, Avon is the sole means of support. This family of four, mother, daughter, son, and Mrs. Cadena's mother, is a contented one. The two children go to school, Mrs. Cadena's mother takes care of their home, and Mrs. Cadena spends her days being an energetic and ambitious Representative. She won her

As of September, 1941 her net total is $2,703.95, and due to the Christmas business, it is much more than that now because her orders were good ones. Avon is glad to see the Cadena family getting along so nicely, and wishes them every happiness in the future. (See biographical note on page 18.)

F. G. Jolly's Son Is With Uncle Sam

For five years Mrs. F. G. Jolly, Kansas, has been a Gold Medallion Representative, and in that time she has been able to do a lot with her Avon earnings. However, one of the accomplishments she values most highly is the education of her son, David. All through high school Mrs. Jolly's Avon earnings allowed her son to take up photography. (He is very talented with the camera and rates highly among amateurs.) Last year David Jolly was graduated school, and he decided to enlist in States Army. When he was sent to an base, the government recognized his assigned him to the task of making

She writes, "A private's income is not sufficient to warrant any extravagant luxuries or expensive vacations. Consequently, I am still ambitious to help him a bit." We certainly hope that David and Mrs. Jolly have a grand Christmas together.

In eight years with Avon Mrs. Jolly has accumulated a net total of $7,359.81 (as of September, 1941), and there is every indication that she will continue her successful career with Avon. (See biographical note on page 8.)

It was a bleak day when District Manager, Mrs. Maude R. Gillespie, called on Mrs. Trumbull, and things were far from bright in every way. Mrs. Trumbull, a widow, had just lost her job, and was faced with the prospect of maintaining a home which she and her husband had bought as a haven.

THE HONOR ROLL Your name appears on the Honor Roll if your sales amount to $250 at net prices during the first year. At the same time you are presented with a Gold Honor Pin like that pictured here.

Just before

1941 ended,

1,282 A v o n

Representatives

received their G o l d Pins. The excellent results of the PreChristmas Campaign were partly responsible for these awards. W e are certain that these Representatives are pleased with their achievements, for they have already started their larger work which will win their next award. A v o n is proud of its long list of new Honor Roll Representatives. They have hurdled the first obstacles t o success in the A v o n world, and will go on t o greater heights.
