There’ll be plenty of time to spend with old friends and make new ones while exploring, learning, and laughing all under the watchful eyes of our fully-trained staff. Whatever your interests are…there is a week for you! Fun weekly water days and visits by special guests will be held at each location.

6-12 years 5 years old may attend camp if they have completed kindergarten $135 per participant per week $108 per participant for week 2 (All Camps Closed Thursday, July 4) $19 Camp Swim option (Walkersville camp site only)

Registration:

Parents have the option of registering one week at a time or registering for multiple/all weeks at once. A $20 deposit per camper, per week will hold your child’s space. Balance of registration fees must be paid-in-full by 4 pm, Monday, June 17. If payment is not received by the required deadline, your deposit is forfeited and your child’s participation is cancelled. Online registrations must be paid- in-full at time of registration. Registrations made after June 18 must be paid-infull at the time of registration.

Camp Information:

Lunch: Campers need to bring their own lunch and beverage to camp every day. Refrigeration is not available. Small coolers and ice packs are highly recommended. Dress: Children are encouraged to dress comfortably in old clothing and sneakers. Please do not send your child to camp in open-toed shoes or sandals. Health Forms 2: It is imperative that your child’s Camp Health Form and Medication Form (if needed) be completed prior to the start of camp. Please complete these form(s) and bring them with you on the first day of camp. These form(s) can be downloaded at www.recreater.com Personal Belongings: Clearly mark all personal belongings (sunscreen, towels, lunches, backpacks, etc.) with the camper’s first and last name. Please do not send valuables along with your child, including video games and Nintendo DS’s. The camp is not responsible for lost or stolen items. First Day Newsletter: On the first day of each camp session, your child will receive a newsletter containing specific information regarding daily activities for that week of camp. Please refer to the newsletter before coming to camp each day. Camp Swim (Walkersville camp site only): Sign your camper up for swimming at Walkersville Swimming Pool while attending summer camp. Counelors will walk campers to and from the pool where they will learn water safety and swim techniques, play water games, and have free swim time. The swim program is managed and supervised by trained FCPS staff. See page 4C.

o you enjoy getting your feet wet exploring streams searching for crayfish, salamanders and frogs? Are you tired of getting in trouble for getting your shoes too muddy? Come and join us at Catoctin Creek Park for a summer filled with outdoor adventures. Choose from one or more of our eight camp sessions. Each week will include a weekly focus as well as the following core activities: creek walks, nature hikes, team building games, and archery practice. Please note activities are subject to change due to heat advisories and unsafe weather conditions.

Looking for an easier way for transportation to and from camp? Take advantage of our transportation service! For an additional $25, campers will be safely transported to and from Catoctin Creek Nature Center for camp. Parks and Recreation Shuttle Van will leave daily from Rose Hill Manor at 7:30 am and return at 5:00 pm. Have that peace of mind this summer and select this great feature for your camper. Explore the habitats and lives of the wild animals of Catoctin Creek. Meet live animals and explore the creek, woods, and meadows of the park searching for the wild critters that live here. Camp will be closed on Thurs. July 4th for the Fourth of July Holiday.

Just like the popular T.V. show but without the fierce competition; campers will be grouped into teams or tribes. Throughout the week these teams will participate in several different challenges including: team building activities, relay races, small raft building, wildlife tracking, geo cache for treasures, tube along the creek (weather permitting).

Catoctin Creek Park and Nature Center South of Middletown, Catoctin Creek Park & Nature Center is 139 acres of excitement waiting for you to explore. The park hosts environmental educational components and technologies along with a 6,000 square foot nature center, two large pavilions, hiking trails, and a playground. Enjoy the Great Outdoors at Catoctin Creek Park & Nature Center. Fountain Rock Park and Nature Center Tucked away, west of Walkersville, is the beautiful 22.5 acre Fountain Rock Park & Nature Center. This environmental park contains one of Maryland's strongest springs, from which 3.25 million gallons of water may flow per day. A nature center and many local historical structures such as the 20 foot high historic lime kilns are present to make your visit more memorable.

Rose Hill Manor Rose Hill Manor, the retirement home of Thomas Johnson, Maryland’s first elected Governor, serves as a hands-on history museum for children of all ages. What lives under that log and who flies over that meadow? Little nature lovers will learn about the fascinating world of insects. Using butterfly nets and magnifying glasses, they will explore the different habitats the park. 4-6 yrs / 5 days / $68 Fountain Rock Park 17496 M-F

Who’s awake after you go to sleep? Tiny nature lovers will be introduced to friendly animals of the night. Structured exploration of the outdoors will also take place in the park with activities such as “batty crafts” and “opossum tales”.

Curious little minds will learn about the many types of webs that spiders weave. Fun facts about arachnids will be shared along with hands-on activities that will keep them smiling! A game called, “Spider Don’t Eat Me!” will be played. (There will be no camp on July 4.)

Discover ten of the most common birds and butterflies of Maryland. Become an expert in identifying these animals in their environment. As for beasts, together we’ll explore Maryland to see what we can find! Crafts will include making cast molds of mammal tracks; going on bug hunts; and catching crayfish!

Believe it or not, Maryland is the home of many predators including foxes, hawks, owls, eagles, bobcats, bears, coyotes, snakes and more! In this exciting camp, you will learn how these creatures track and find their prey. You will explore the important role predators play in the food chain, and practice finding their tracks. (There will be no camp on July 4.)

This program demonstrates basic ecological principles through participatory activities and habitat exploration. The program focuses on survival adaptations and the interaction between animals and plants. Symbiosis and food chains will also be discussed. Speak for the trees and the animals that call them home! We will hike into the woods to discover the difference between trees and other plants. Then we will sing songs, tell stories, and play a game called, “Truffle Shuffle”.

Gives young children ages 4-5 a positive, developmentally appropriate aquatic learning experience that emphasizes water safety and survival concepts.

Students will learn how to enter and exit the water safely. Students will learn to submerge his / her head and open their eyes under the water to see objects. The child will learn to float and glide on his / her stomach and back while being supported and explore ways of changing position in the water using their arms and legs. Prior to enrollment in this class, child should have little to no in-water experience and may even be fearful of the water. Once the student can swim on his / her own, it is time to learn the fundamentals of different strokes. Level III offers an introduction to the elementary backstroke, increased endurance on front crawl and kicking action for the butterfly. Students will also begin to learn how to tread water effectively as well as kick on their side. The beginning stages of diving will also be taught. Summer Camps: Tennis Pee Wee Tennis

Smaller rackets, foam balls, and a smaller court make this the right class for you to learn the game. All equipment is provided for this fun and enjoyable program. All classes will meet Monday through Thursday for 2-weeks. Friday will be used as a rain date.

This camp will focus on teaching children the fundamentals of tennis. Campers will work on skills like the forehand, backhand, serving, volleying and the rally. Campers will be divided up into groups depending on age and skill level. Please provide a small snack and plenty of water for your camper.
