Lifeguarding LIFEGUARD PRE COURSE WATER TEST
Interested in taking the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training class this spring? You will need to first pass this pre course water test. Participant will be tested on swimming 300 yards continuously while demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing using the front crawl and breaststroke. Participant must be able to surface dive to a depth of 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10 pound object, return to surgace, swim 20 yards back to the starting point with object timed at 1 minute, 40 seconds. 15+ yrs/ 1 Class / Free Walkersville High School – Pool 3292

AMERICAN RED CROSS LIFEGUARD TRAINING
This course trains participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies. Certification includes: Lifeguarding, First Aid, and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer through the American Red Cross. Attendance is mandatory for all class! Prerequisites will be required to end the class. They include: Participant must be at least 15 years old by the last day of class, rhythmic breathing using the front crawl and breaststroke, surface dive to a depth of 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10 pound object, return to surface, swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object timed at 1 minute, 40 seconds. Parent and Child Aquatics helps young children get ready to swim by emphasizing fun in the water.
PARENT AND CHILD LEVEL 1
Helps young children get ready to swim by emphasizing basic skills through fun activities, such as blowing bubbles and playing with water toys, introduces basic skills to parents and children, including safety topics. Parents and children participate in several guided practice sessions. These basic skills include adjusting to the water environment, showing comfort while maintaining a front or back position in the water and demonstrating breath control, including blowing bubbles or voluntarily submerging. 18 mos-3 yrs/ 8 Classes / $65 Walkersville High School – Pool

To orient preschool-age children to the aquatic environment and to help them acquire rudimentary levels of basic aquatic skills. In level 1 students will learn how to enter and exit the water safely. Students will learn to submerge his/her head and open their eyes under the water to see objects. The child will learn to float and glide on his/her stomach and back while being supported and explore ways of changing position in the water using their arms and legs. Prior to enrollment in this class, child should have little to no in-water experience and may even be fearful of the water. This class will help participants feel comfortable in the water, as well as to enjoy the water safely.
To orient preschool age children to the aquatic environment and to help them acquire rudimentary levels of basic aquatic skills. This level builds off of Level I. NFL YOUTH FLAG FOOTBALL – SPRING LEAGUE 5v5 non-contact league, with teams of up to 10 players. Jersey and flag belts are provided. Games will be played on Saturdays at Ballenger Creek, Utica and Urbana District Parks. Volunteer coaches are needed and vital to the operation of this program. Practices are held one night/week at the selection of the head coach. Jersey and flag belts are provided. All players are required to wear a mouth guard. Only 1-buddy request/player will be accepted at time of registration. Not all requests are granted. Opening day is Saturday April 5th, game times vary between 9:00 am-3:00 pm (depending on team schedule). Be sure to register at the park location you wish to practice at, see below. Students will learn basic volleyball skills, play in six games against other county school teams, participate in a tournament and have fun. Scores are based on accuracy and distance in the categories of punting, passing and kicking. If you work in food service; restaurant, catering, church, own a food truck, food stand, or if you just want to learn how to cook food safely at your home, this is the class for you. This 8-hour ServSafe class for food safety certification is recognized for the Health Department in all states and jurisdictions. The class is broken down to 6 hours of instruction, and 2 hours to take the certified exam. Taught by a Culinary Institute of America graduate, who has been working in the hospitality industry for the past 30 years as a professional chef. If you plan on taking the ServSafe test, you must bring with you or purchase a test answer sheet. Official ServSafe certificates will be awarded with a passing grade of 75 percent or higher. Children’s Museum
Rose Hill Manor, the retirement home of Thomas Johnson, Maryland’s first elected Governor, serves as a hands-on history museum for children of all ages. The property features a manor house, icehouse, log cabin, and blacksmith shop. The Children’s Museum and Carriage Museum are open seasonally with guided tours available daily during regular museum hours. The Farm Museum is open by appointment and for regularly scheduled programs. Karate
Aikido focuses on “minimum effort/ maximum effect”, which makes it well suited for all people regardless of age, size, or gender. This beginner class is a wonderful way to learn basic, effective selfdefense and foundations of Aikido.
The Tiny Tigers karate program is an action-packed 30 minute karate class that focuses on pre-skills. We enhance hand eye coordination, agility, balance, etc. all while learning basic karate techniques and having fun. During this program your child will practice skills to prepare him or her for preschool. We will focus on separating from a parent, turn-taking with peers, following directions in a group setting, imitating actions to songs during circle time and having fun with friends. Our daily schedule includes free play, circle time, movement, snack and story time. This inclusive group is taught by staff from the Frederick County Infants and Toddlers Program. Parents are required to stay on the premises.

Bringing your little ones into the next level of FUN through cooperative play, simple instructions, game rules and strategies. This is a celebration of fitness, fun and “fido”, whether you walk it or jog it, with a dog or without, this event is all about fun. The 5K9 is a 5K trail run through scenic Utica District Park. The Best Friend Fun Run/Walk is a 1 mile fun run or walk. Dogs who participate during the 5K9 or BFFR will receive FREE ADMISSION to the Bark in the Park event following the race at 10am. Dog owners must bring a collar, leash (no longer than 6 feet), and proof of rabies vaccination for entry. Limit one dog per runner. Event T-shirts guaranteed to the first 100 people registered for the 5K9.
Sensory Nature Trail Grand Opening: Our 1/10 mile sensory trail will include twelve interactive touch, smell and listening stations, as well as eight tree bark sensory stations. REGISTER EARLY: Early program registration is encouraged since roster size is limited. Registrations are accepted on a first come, first serve basis. Pre-registration required unless otherwise indicated. REGISTRATION CONFIRMATION: Confirmation sent via e-mail, otherwise your cancelled check or credit card statement is your receipt. You will be notified if there is a problem processing your registration or if the program is cancelled. Please make a note of your program start date.
REFUND POLICY: Our refund policy encourages early decisions, so as to not affect other customers or our ability to deliver efficient programs. All requests for refunds must be made at least 10 business days prior to the start of the program. A 20% administrative fee will be charged per refund transaction. Registrations that require advanced tickets are not refundable. Refunds for Sport League registrations must be made prior to the listed league registration deadline. There are no refunds for missed sessions. PROGRAM CREDITS/TRANSFERS: To avoid administrative fees, a customer may transfer into another program with no additional fee. A credit may also be kept on the customer account at no additional charge. Requests for both credits and transfers can only be made 5 or more business days prior to the program start date. There are no refunds of credits. RETURNED CHECKS: A $25 fee will be charged for checks returned for non-payment. AGE POLICY: Program participants must be the advertised age for a program before the program ends. All age requirements are set to benefit the participants and to make the instruction consistent and safe. DISCIPLINE: The Division has a discipline policy for program participants. In the event the participant is asked to leave a program/facility, no refund will be issued. TRIPS ALCOHOL POLICY: We strive to have a family atmosphere on our trips. If you choose to drink alcohol while on one of our trips please do so responsibly and make arrangements to have a designated driver for your trip home from the bus drop off area.

If there is an exception, you will be informed by the Parks and Recreation staff on the program schedule. If you are not sure whether a program will be held, call our program cancellation line at 301-600-6291. During inclement weather, outdoor programs may be cancelled. Every effort will be made to make-up missed classes. Refunds will not be granted for rescheduled classes that are missed due to conflicts with personal schedules. The Division may cancel a program for any reasonable cause. CONCUSSION AWARENESS: Check www.recreater.com for information about the seriousness of concussions in sports.
