The historic Benjamin Trumbull House has undergone some recent structural changes that aim to maintain the integrity of the home for hundreds of years to come. The home was owned by Benjamin Trumbull (1735 1820), who served the town of North Haven as a teacher, pastor, and farmer. He wrote well-respected texts on the history of Connecticut, the

origin of holy scriptures, and the history of American churches. He was a patriot serving in the Revolutionary War and assisted with Beacon Hill fortifications during the War of 1812. Over his time as a minister, he composed 4,000 sermons and married 464 couples. Trumbull was a Yale graduate who studied theology and taught for a year in Columbia, Connecticut before being offered a settlement to teach in North Haven in 1760. At only 25-

years- old, he was given the role of Minister of the North Haven Congregational Church, replacing the late Rev. Isaac Stiles. In 1761, he purchased 16 acres of land just east of the meeting house.

The North Haven Garden Club is selling our homemade birdseed wreaths, baskets, and ornaments. This is one of our largest fundraiser for 2023. All funds raised go right back into our community to support all beautification projects, gardens, barrels and pots, and youth gardening. North Haven Soccer Club celebrates local referees The North Haven Soccer Club held a celebration of its local youth and adult referees at JRoos restaurant on Thursday, Oct. 26. Over 50 referees and family members were in attendance, as well as CJSA Executive Director Joshua Krusewski, Connecticut Youth Referee Administrator Ron Packard, and North Haven Referee Assignor Mark McGeehan. The event included supportive and motivational speeches for referees, information about the opportunities that becoming a certified referee can offer, and a raffle for all of the local referees. “Referees are an integral part of the beautiful game, and it’s about time that we, as a community, show our referees how much they are appreciated,” said Chris Gaetano, NHSC President. “For

far too long, referee abuse has not only been accepted, but it’s been embarrassingly encouraged by otherwise rational adults on sidelines across the country. As a result, most referees end up quitting and not continuing

after just one or two seasons. This is unacceptable, and here in North Haven, we are not only going to fully support our referees, but we’re going to celebrate them!”

D10, D14 cheerleading teams win state titles The North Haven D10 and D14 Competition Cheerleading teams were both crowned State Champions at their state competition at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven on Nov. 4. Both teams also place first in their locals competition held at North Haven High School on Oct 21. North Haven’s D8 Exhibition Team also performed at locals and states and had a spectacular performance for both. Head Coach of the D10 team is Jenn Hettrick alongside assistant coaches Lindsay Capozzo and Nicole Fitzgerald. Their team is comprised of Giuliana Capozzo, Catalina Colon, Molly Corcoran, Madison Cretella, Stella D’Angelo, Violet Danis, Charlotte DeFrancesco, Victoria DeSimone, Ally Fitzgerald, Jess Fitzgerald, Madelyn Gherman, Cora Gilmore, Natalia Grogan, Sadie Hettrick, Jocelyn Kenyon and Lea Quinones. “I’m so proud of each athlete’s dedication to each other and to the success of the team,” Coach Hettrick said. Head Coach of the D14 team is Shari Cretella alongside assistant coaches Jen Asprelli and Bree DeFrancesco. The D14 team is comprised of Ava Asprelli, Ainsley Brooks, Madelyn Corcoran, Sofia Corrigan, Juliana Cretella, Alessandra Cruz, Brynley D’Angelo, Hannah Darcy, Ella Donaldson, Sophia Gambardella, Hayleigh Hettrick, Ava Manacchio, Emma Martin, Claire McDonough, Lilyana Onofrio, Rebecca Ortiz, Brianna Palmese, Payton Palmese, Lucianna Pellegrino, Gabriella Pesticci, Victoria Wargo and Lily Wrocklage. “My team has had to overcome so much adversity but the greater the obstacle, the more glory in overcoming it,” Coach Cretella said. Both teams are now scheduled to move on to compete at Regionals which will be held at the University of New Hampshire on November 19th. If the teams place first, second or third, they will be

moving on to compete at the National level in Florida. One of the cheerleaders on the D10 competition team, Victoria DeSimone, is the daughter of fallen North Haven firefighter, Anthony DeSimone. He would be very proud of his daughter’s accomplishments and friendships on this team and so happy she is continuing her dream of being a com-

petitive cheerleader. The North Haven Youth Football and Cheerleading program alongside the entire North Haven Community are very proud of these athletes and the dedication of their coaches.
