Do you have children in our schools? Did you vote in the budget referendum? Were you angered that the Mayor and his Republican councilors disregarded the results of the last referendum, when a majority of our citizens voted that the BOE budget was “no, too low,” voting instead to not fully fund our

History shows us that the Republicans have ignored future and even current capital projects and then when the Democrats win they have no choice but to borrow because everything becomes a crisis that the Republicans ignored during their tenure. I’m voting for JoAnn Angelico-Stetson for Mayor.
Since I took office as Mayor, my commitment has been to minimize tax increases while not compromising town or education services. The challenge that I encountered since day one was the large debt of approximately $108 M. This was the cumulative result from many years of irresponsible fiscal policy by the former administration. Kaczynski continues to be the right choice for Berlin
As a public servant to our community for more than two decades, Mark has dedicated much of his life to prioritizing the needs of our residents. As mayor, he has continued to put Berlin first. Since taking office eight years ago, 104 new businesses have planted roots here, 42 existing businesses have expanded, and investments by private businesses have exceeded $115 million which has resulted in the creation of almost 1,400 new jobs. Despite inheriting significant debt, Mayor Mark has been able to cut it by $44 million which has resulted in a higher bond rating, allowing Berlin to borrow money at a lower interest rate. A once underfunded and ignored pension liability has been almost completely erased. This allows greater financial flexibility and increased investments in our community. These efforts have resulted in tremendous economic growth all while establishing a high level of financial stability, something prior leadership had struggled to achieve. Through his leadership, Berlin has truly become a thriving community. The pandemic and high inflation each brought on many uncertainties, but Mayor Mark worked hard to minimize the impact on Berlin’s residents, with two

Veterans Day Ceremony set for Nov. 11 This years Veterans Day Ceremony will be on Saturday, Nov. 11, and will start at 11 a.m. at the Berlin Veterans Memorial Park on Veterans Way. (51 Lower Ln, Berlin, CT 06037 on GPS)
On the 11th hour, on the 11th day, of the 11th month, we pause to honor America’s Veterans and celebrate their contributions to our way of life. Few have given more to our Nation than the men and women who have served in our Armed Forces in peace and in war. So, on this day we want to ensure veterans know that we deeply appreciate the sacrifices they have made in their lives to keep our country free.
The Berlin High School Madrigal Singers, directed by Tyler Boyle, will sing the National Anthem and America the Beautiful. Members of the Berlin High School Saxophone Quartet, directed by Christopher Dresko, will play a Military Service Songs Melody and two Trumpeters, Evan Paone and Whitney White, will play Taps.

funding education. This is especially true right now given the terribly challenging time for our students, educators, and administrators. Further, for too long the republican majority has kicked the can down the road so that the tax mill rate is not increased. They only have one goal in mind – reelection. Results, not reelection, should be what motivates a leader. The majority has failed to consistently budget for capital projects, has no plan to do so moving forward, and keeps randomly dipping into town savings to pay for capital improvements. These shortcomings and failures impact our quality of life. Q: You have mentioned your desire to work collaboratively with others in the Town to find solutions to problems. However, an incident involving campaign literature in the 2020 election led to you filing a lawsuit against (Town of Berlin Board of Ethics and Donna Veach), which was later withdrawn, and more recently, the Council demanding a public apology related to that incident. Given that history, could you still be collaborative with members of that Council? A: As for my ability to work collaboratively with all members, I believe that my leadership style is collaborative because it will engage the community and

respect councilors’ voices. I intend on embracing and empowering community engagement to gain a more full picture of the needs and wants of residents. It doesn’t get more collaborative than that. There exists now in town hall a large chasm in communication. It’s not effective, and it’s not present. Collaboration starts with communication. Case in point: Did you know that during the first budget referendum this past April, the only post on the Town facebook page was about a fishing derby? They didn’t even promote their own budget referendum on social media. They put up large signs around town to remind voters, but that’s not enough. Voters are dissuaded from voting on their own budget. And then we wonder why turnout is so low!
Q: You have criticized your opponent for not prioritizing schools and other capital projects during his tenure in office. He has insisted that several improvements/investments have been made and that the Town’s debt has been paid down, resulting in a higher AAA rating for Berlin. How would you respond to that? A: The presiding Mayor has ignored the will of the voters. Residents (including parents of students in the school) recently voted that the Board of Education budget was too low, and he and the republican majority failed to respect that democratic process.
The Mayor should not take credit for the AAA bond rating or any improvement/ investments. The AAA bond rating was issued back when I was a sitting councilor and was achieved by working with the Director of Finance and Ultimately, my style is more Board of Finance. Camp Courtney in Okinawa, Japan. While stationed in Japan, he attended numerous schools such as the Jungle Warfare Leaders Course, Close Air Support Training Academy, and completed Corporals Course. After two years in Japan, Revoir received orders to Marine Air Control Squadron 2 in Cherry Point, North Carolina. From there, he volunteered to be an individual augment and was attached
to 2nd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion. After a short work up, he deployed in 2007 to the Al Anbar Providence in Iraq to conduct combat operations. After returning from deployment, Revoir was honorably discharged, after four years of service, at the rank of Sergeant. Revoir resides in Kensington with his wife Lindsay, two children Brody and Ella, and works at Sikorsky Aircraft. Obituaries Kerry Lee Ingerson BERLIN - Kerry Lee Ingerson, 69, of Berlin, passed away October 18, 2023. He joins his immediate family Robert and Grace Ingerson and “Robby” as he affectionately called him. He leaves behind his beloved pup “Lady Bug”, who was his constant companion, as well as his cousins Donna Janazzo of Harwinton, with whom he enjoyed antique shopping and trips up north; Diane Dahn of Southington, who he enjoyed sharing a glass of wine and good conversation with; and Brenda Janazzo and her son Jay of Plymouth, who he thought of as a nephew. Kerry looked forward to holidays and long visits at their lake house. One of Kerry’s greatest accomplishments was serving in the Air Force as a medic. He proudly would reminisce about babies he delivered and the joy it brought him. He also leaves his neighbors who he was so grateful for, always checking in on him and his special friends at the local garage in Berlin, that he frequented often. It brought Kerry great pleasure to give

championship since 1998, has not had the best success in state tournament play. “I’m well aware of it but these kids were not even born through some of it,” Joslyn said. “This year is really wide-open.
