Overconfidence: Overconfidence implies that investors tend to overestimate their ability to generate a return and underestimate the risk associated with a particular investment. For example, imagine you are an investor who has recently had success picking winning shares. You may conclude that the success is due solely to your investment skill. That may be the case, but it's also possible the results were due to market forces outside of your control. The problem is that in either case, recent success may encourage you to take greater risks. While this could lead to greater profits, it's just as likely to result in greater losses. Herding mentality, which is

One Listener’s Review: The New Britain Symphony Orchestra
Thanks to those who voted Editor : I would like to thank all the residents of Berlin who voted on November 7. It has been my honor to serve as your mayor for the past eight years and I look forward to continuing my service to Berlin. On behalf of the Republican team, I would also like to thank the people who supported us, and the volunteers who worked tirelessly during our campaign.

Editor : On Nov. 5, I spent a glorious Sunday afternoon with The New Britain Symphony Orchestra at CCSU’s Welte Hall. Led by Maestro Toshiyuki Shimada and joined by the Farmington Valley Chorale, the orchestra performed with the kind of emotion, professionalism and skill that puts them in league with big city orchestras. It was both a surprise and a delight.
With Veteran’s Day so close, the program began with Robert Wendel’s Armed Forces Medley where Shimada invited veterans, both in the audience and on the stage, to stand and be acknowledged. The audience was only too happy to show its appreciation with rousing applause for the men and women in the room who served our country—and for the uplifting Mayor Mark Kaczynski music.
We will continue to serve all residents of Berlin to the best of our ability and will continue with our vision that has resulted in tremendous economic growth, financial stability, low taxes, and investments in our town that provide the highest quality town and education services that the residents expect from our town government.
Then, the Farmington Valley Chorale, directed by Ellen Gilson Voth, gave an impressive a cappella performance of
Ron Jeffers’s I Have Had Singing before being rejoined by the orchestra for a plaintive and moving rendition of Brahms’s Nänie. A piece about beauty and loss, Nänie served as a perfect metaphor for a beautiful but fleeting New England autumn. But, there was more to come. The highlight of the concert, for me, was the NBSO’s rendition of Dmitri Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5. The piece came alive under Shimada’s direction, the Maestro, at times, practically taking flight at his podium. I was swept away by the music, and, judging by the spirited standing ovation at the close of the piece, I was not alone. It was really something! The next Mainstage concert of the New Britain Symphony Orchestra is April 7, 2024, at CCSU’s Welte Hall. It will feature Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue along with pieces by Bach and Copland and a special appearance by concert pianist Corbin Beisner. Put it on your calendar now. Really. You should go. However, despite the loss, Democratic Party leadership felt more positive coming out of the campaign. “The Berlin Democratic Town Committee is incredibly proud of its slate!” said Raul Fernandes Chair of the Berlin Town Council. “We’re disappointed by the outcome of the mayoral race, but we’re excited for our new councilors, Kate Atkinson and Mark Pruzin, returning councilor Peter Rosso, returning board of finance member (Raul Fernandes), new board of finance member Denise McNair, new assessment appeals member Stuart Topliff, and returning police commissioner Ryan Zelek, to represent the best of the town and create a stronger Berlin.”
Angelico-Stenson agreed. Despite her disappointment, she stated that Democrats would continue to push for the change they believe is necessary.

BERLIN - Deborah (Bruce) Wood, 80, of Kensington, wife of Grant L. Wood, Jr., passed away Friday, November 10, 2023, at Apple Rehab of Cromwell. She was a Berlin resident most of her life. A graduate of Berlin High School, Class of 1961, she received both her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Elementary Education from CCSU. Deborah was a member of Kensington Congregational Church. Besides her husband Grant, she leaves two sons, Anthony Wood and his wife Jill of Berlin; and Steven Wood and his wife Debra Ann of East Berlin; a daughter, Tena Levine of Oakwood, GA; seven grandchildren, Jeremy and his fiancé Hannah Trovitch, Joshua, Samantha and Grace Wood; and Kaylie, Eliah and Matthew Levine; as well as a sister-inlaw, Lorraine Wood of Kensington. Deborah was predeceased by her sonin-law, Steven Levine. Funeral services are private and at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.
