How to Present Papers 4th MMHN CONFERENCE Please send your papers to gonzalezsin@diba.cat Papers should be original unpublished contributions. If copyright clearances are required, these are the responsibility of the author- The organising committee does not undertake to request such clearances. Graphic material and photographs will be sent in jpeg/jpg format by email. These materials will include source citations. In case they have copyright, this responsibility lies on the author. Papers may be written in English, Spanish, French, Italian o Catalan. The text length will not exceed 5000 words or 40,000 characters (including spaces). The font size and style will be: 12 point, Times New Roman. The paragraph will be double space. Abstracts must be written in English; and their length must be between 100-150 words. Notes must be numbered consecutively at the end of the text. Bibliography and references must also be included at the end of the text. Vessel names will be written in italics (eg. schooner Santa EulĂ lia). Please follow the Humanities style citation system. The following examples may be useful: 1) ARCHIVES COLLECTIONS The general order to quote them is: archive, collection, reference number, and date. First citation: *Municipal Archives of Amsterdam (MAA); Notary archives; 63/63, 25 November 1593. Following citations: * MAA, Notary archives, 63/63, 25 November 1593.

2) BOOKS The first citation must include place and date of publication, but not the publisher’s name. Do not use p. / pp. as page abbreviation.

First citation: *Chester G. Starr, La Influencia del Poder Naval en China (Cambridge, 1989), 144. Following citations: *Starr, La Influencia, 155. 3) BOOK CHAPTER OR OTHER PARTS OF BOOK The first citation must include place and date of publication, but not the publisher’s name. Do not use p. / pp. as page abbreviation. First citation: * David M. Williams, "Una bibliografia selecta d’estudis publicats entre 1953 i 1969," in Judith Blow Williams, Historia comercial britànica 1750-1850 (Oxford 1972), 461487. Following citations: * Williams, "Una Bibliografia Selecta", 475. 4) JOURNAL ARTICLE Indicate volume in Roman numbers. Do not use p. / pp. as page abbreviation. First citation: John McDonald i Ralph Shlomowitz, "El Cost of Shipping de Presos de Transport a Austràlia", International Journal of Maritime History, II, Núm. 2 (December 1990), 426. Following citations: * McDonald i Shlomowitz, "El Cost of shipping”, 5. 5) ARTICLE IN A NEWSPAPER OR MAGAZINE The name must be copied as it appears in the exactly of the newspaper or magazine heading.
