Luzhniki Stadium, one of the largest sports complexes in the world, will be the heart of the FIFA World Cup™ tournaments, used for the opening ceremony as well as the semi-final and final matches.

Yekaterinburg

Located in the heart of Moscow amidst museums, theatres, and galleries, Luzhniki Stadium has hosted major international sporting events from the 1980 Summer Olympic Games to the 2008 UEFA Champions League Final. The Luzhniki sports complex stretches along the Moscow River and lies opposite the beautiful Vorob’evy Hills Natural Park. Overlooking the stadium are the majestic grounds and observation area of the Moscow State University, a proposed Fan Fest location.

Originally built in 1956, Luzhniki has been renovated several times and is now designated a 5-star football stadium by UEFA. Further renovation for the 2018/2022 FIFA World Cup™ will increase seating capacity to 89,300 and ensure that the stadium will meet or exceed FIFA requirements for opening ceremonies, semi-final and final matches. The surrounding sports complex is home to 140 indoor and outdoor sports facilities that will be used as training venues and support facilities during the World Cup™. The stadium is conveniently located just 15 minutes from the centre of Moscow by vehicle. Two metro stations at the sports complex provide easy accessibility.

A DRAMATIC, CONTEMPORARY STADIUM ALONGSIDE EUROPE’S LARGEST AND MOST MAJESTIC RIVER

FIFA World Cup™ Stadium Kazan will be a new venue on the western edge of the Volga River, on a site of 24.6 hectares that acts as a gateway to the city. In concert with ancillary sporting accommodation, the waterfront site will be developed as a dedicated sporting precinct with excellent supportive infrastructure and amenities. Kazan is home to a number of successful sporting clubs that compete at the highest echelons of their respective divisions. Notable among them is FC Rubin Kazan, winner of the Russian Premier League for two consecutive years in 2008 and 2009.

The stadium’s location at the city’s waterfront is essential to its concept and design. The building uses a streamlined structural system to minimise the heavy roof structure, yielding a transparent, elegant solution. The façade reflects the adjacent water’s edge, with an undulating tension ring that recalls the gentle waves of the Volga. The undulating blue roof furthers the metaphorical link between the stadium and the river. Very close to the city centre, Kazan Stadium will be highly accessible. Refurbished with state-of-the-art technology, the stadium will offer a world-class football platform with specifications and facilities to meet the demands of the FIFA World Cup™.

AN INNOVATIVE FOOTBALL STADIUM LOCATED IN THE BEAUTIFUL ‘VENICE OF RUSSIA’

The FIFA World Cup™ Stadium Saint Petersburg will be located on a 16.7 hectare site in the western part of the historic city. Designed by renowned Japanese architect Kisho Kurokawa in 2005, this new stadium is part of a sports-entertainment complex in the Park of Victory on Krestovsky Island. The design of the FIFA World Cup™ Stadium Saint Petersburg emerged from a major international architectural competition established to modernize Saint Petersburg. It was designed to replace Kirov Stadium and to become an iconic architectural landmark within the city. Surrounded on three sides by water, the venue is a model of sustainable and environmentally friendly eco-architecture technologies, including rainwater recycling, drainage water recycling and the use of solar energy. The venue will offer a seating capacity of 69,501, state-ofthe-art facilities and the most advanced technical solutions. The site at Victory Park offers a range of other sporting facilities, such as an indoor cycling arena, a rowing canal and large expanses of green space. The site is well planned and designed to offer the highest security, convenient transport and VIP/VVIP access. FIFA World Cup™ Stadium Saint Petersburg will offer a world-class football venue and exceed all FIFA standards for best practices.

The FIFA World Cup™ Stadium Sochi will be located alongside the scenic coast of the Black Sea, just a mere 150 metres from the water. The facility offers stunning views of both the surrounding mountains and the sea.

Yekaterinburg

Developed as the Olympic Stadium for the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games, the venue is part of a complex of sport facilities and will host the Opening and Closing Ceremonies for the Winter Games. The geographical features that have shaped Sochi—the mountains and the sea—inspired the architectural concept of the stadium.

INNOVATION MEETS ELEGANCE IN A STADIUM DESIGNED TO ENHANCE THE NATURAL SURROUNDINGS

The facility is in the form of an oval, and giant arched principal trussed steel girders along the east and west sides create a gently sloping roof. The roof itself will be composed of translucent polycarbonate, covering the stands but also bringing the light and impressive views of the surrounding area into the stadium. A bowl cut also allows spectators to see the mountains and sea, and the raised concourses will provide exceptional views. The intimate seating bowl and state-of-of-the-art services for all constituent groups make FIFA World Cup™ Stadium Sochi and ideal site for FIFA World Cup™ group games, the round of 16 and quarter-final matches. 21
