Living Light Smoothies June and July

Organic Juice Cleanse

We’ll make your juice cleanse for you! June 1 to June 7 & July 13 to July 19 What is a juice cleanse? A juice cleanse is drinking a sustained regimen of very vibrant and healthy organic juices made of living fruits and vegetables. These juices have the ability to clear the body of toxins from heavy metals, high fat, sugar, fast food, negative thinking and alcohol, just to name a few. Drinking juices free of chemicals and additives energizes the cleansing enzymes in our body and gives it what it needs to perform at optimal capacity. The chlorophyll found in leafy greens and vegetables helps eliminate heavy metals and pesticides absorbed from the environment. This creates inner peace, a greater level of calmness and a healthy, clear, focused and powerful inner being. The greatest gift we can give to our bodies is to support it’s natural detoxifying efforts so we do not become overloaded creating disease and instead create a vibrant healthy body.

Juice is made to order. $21 per day. One quart jars. Pre-Order by May 25. Yashodahra Yehudit is a healer, yoga teacher, living foods and life coach, who has healed herself of Epstein Barr virus with an all living food lifestyle.

FROM THE EDITOR

PURUSHA K. RADHA

Exploring the Spiral of Soulular Union Over the course of producing this issue of Velocity, we have thought an awful lot about relationship. Like you, I’ve certainly had enough practice with relating to others though sometimes some relationships came to endings while others have been paused and still others march along like valiant troopers. All the times I thought I had failed in a relationship, I actually was becoming more acquainted with the truth of impermanence. At times, my loved one and I were ebbing, a necessary part of the flow of life. I was taught to have many friendships and not to let go of them, but eventually many of them dissolved as if a flowing tide washing over and erasing a message written in the sand. Through those years I thought something was wrong with me. This wasn’t how I was raised. But it truly is a natural part of life. We came together for specific periods in our lives and it served us well. It’s quite alright to move on as we expand ever greater on our life journeys. In one of our recent email broadcasts we asked for assistance from our readers in writing this article and we were shocked at the response. Never have we received such a vigorous return to an email. This is a hot topic and reading the plethora of emails we received we perceive that many who responded feel they pretty much have relationships figured out. It was moving to read some people’s deep emotional responses to our questions. Writing a reply became a spiritual exercise for many. One woman wrote a piece lamenting the loss of her beloved who had moved on to be with someone else. So deep is her prevailing love for him she very intimately shared with me her suffering and her victories resulting from her struggles.

We have been told that relationships take work and there must be compromise. Something about that just doesn’t hit me right. A dear friend of mine wrote truthfully in his answer to our questions, “Humans tend to let the ego put conditions on relationships. It is not always easy to live up to another person’s expectations.” Bravo! You said it, L. If ever I have felt suffocated or unhappy in a relationship, it was because my partner or friend had a list of expectations I just could never fulfill. It caused me stress to try to constantly rise to their expectations and so the relationship wasn’t as joyful as it might have been. It didn’t flow as I longed for it to. And the fact that I have experienced versions of this same issue many times means there is something there for me to learn and bring to triumph. The same writer also says, “Why should anyone want to limit another if not for ego?” We asked our readers if they felt we should remain with one person until death do us part. We noticed that almost everyone answered that love endures forever and death is not an end to that love. We were struck by the fact that almost no one wrote about feeling restricted in a marriage to loving only one person to the end. Is it that we are so conditioned to devote ourselves to only one person at a time that we don’t even entertain the possbility that we are capable of deeply loving more than one partner at a time? We prove that we are polyamorous because we do love many people simultaneously–every day, all day long. In fact, we are born polyamorous. Polyamory isn’t about sex and swinging. It’s about love– pure love. This pure love is our true nature, but it is squashed from the first moments of life. Divine beings that we are, are not and must not be limited in our expression of love. Why has this been made a taboo subject? We must contemplate this and not just buy without question the ticket that has been placed in our hand.

ship takes work or extreme effort to hold its various parts together the question becomes, should the relationship succeed?” Ascended master GRe has said, “Marriage is not for life. It’s for the life of the marriage.” Sometimes the moment comes when we realize we have learned everything we could from each other. We bring the relationship to a close, we graduate and move on to other expressions of relationship. It’s okay. It’s not a failure. It is a learning. We are evolving. In answer to my question if compromise is part of relationship, Anita shared brilliantly, “Compromise is not the word I would use. I think we must expand ourselves to let others in.” Expand. Donna wrote, “A holy relationship is one based on freedom and is much harder to find or to cultivate. This is a relationship where I place no demands on you...” In holy relationships, perhaps issues like honesty, trust and respect which many wrote about don’t even have to be contemplated or brought to bear. In a high velocity relationship these qualities are inherent. There are many possible relationship quadrants in which we may find ourselves–some high velocity, and some lower. May we accept where we find ourselves to be, learn from it, and grow with our loved ones. A relationship takes two who desire to grow and evolve alongside each other. If one chooses not to grow in the way that we do, we must move on, continuing to expand on the spiral of soulular union and exploration with the myriad of souls in Creation. The spiral is limitless. And so are we. We were truly touched at the enormity of the response to our little survey. Thank you all so much.

Before Shopping With Your Pet by Marcia Sundberg

W

ith the multitude of choices out in the marketplace today, how do you know that you have found the best place to shop for your pet? Here are some questions to ponder before you go shopping with your pet the next time. Is your pet welcomed into the establishment by the employees? Is there a friendly vibe in the store? How are you treated if your pet has an accident in the store? Does the store staff know your pet’s name? Do they ask how your pet is doing and remember any concerns that may have been addressed in your prior visit? Does the store staff have pets of their own and do they have any experience in the pet business? Don’t laugh, that is often more true than you would imagine. Does the store sell healthy food, treats and supplements–foods devoid of corn, wheat, soy, artificial coloring and flavors, meat by-products and excessive grain fillers? Are you able to ask questions and receive knowledgeable answers that explain and educate about products that you are not familiar with? Are you able to get samples of products to take home and try? Is the store and staff involved with the community through educational seminars, in-store events or outside support of animal causes? Does the store have a good reputation in the pet community and the community at large? If you can answer yes to the above questions, you have found a store that cares about your pet’s health and nutrition and a store that is interested in developing a long-term relationship with you and your pet. Marcia Sundberg grew up on a farm in Minnesota and has always been around animals. Beekeeping is her family’s business. She is co-owner of Pookie’s Bow Wow Bakery with Melissa Gosik. They opened Pookie’s Bow Wow Bakery in 2002. Pookie’s supports various local rescue groups and pet related organizations and participates in educational community outreach programs on pet safety and pet nutrition. Please see ad this page.

REVERSE RUPTURED, HERNIATED, AND BULGING DISCS WITHOUT SURGERY!

M

Introducing the Neuromuscular Pain Relief Center

any people suffer from severe neck and back pain because of ruptured, bulging, and herniated discs. As a result of Michelle Hamel’s work, thousands of patients have avoided painful surgery, nerve blocks, and drugs. Michelle Hamel is a licensed neuromuscular therapist and owner of The Neuromuscular Pain Relief Center. She specializes in the non-surgical elimination of disc and nerve-related pain.

Where does back pain typically come from? It comes from repetitive motion and accidents. In fact, many of our normal daily activities can lead to back pain.

What causes the back pain?

Between the vertebrae a disc can migrate towards the spinal column and place pressure on a branch of the sciatic nerve. Let’s think about a jelly doughnut. When we bend the jelly doughnut forward the jelly comes out the back. This is similar to what happens with the discs between our vertebrae. When the disc pushes against the nerve we feel pain. This can occur in the upper, middle, and lower back. We all have a tendency to lean forward which causes flexion of the spine. This causes posterior disc migration.

What can I do about it?

Michelle’s unique soft tissue protocols can painlessly and quickly return these migrated discs to their normal and correct position. This will re-create your natural structural balance and end the pain cycle.

Here’s how Wally Temple feels about Michelle’s work: “I began experiencing pain in my right hip and groin area followed by ever-increasing numbness in my right thigh. After visiting my primary care physician, I was referred to one of Orlando’s prominent orthopedic

clinics. After a couple office visits there, X-rays, an MRI, physical therapy, and anti-inflammatory drugs, my condition did not improve very much. Fortunately, when mentioning this to a friend with a similar problem in the past, he recommended Michelle Hamel at the Neuromuscular Pain Relief Center. After a consultation with Michelle, and her review of my history on this matter including radiology reports, Michelle suggested my problem might be a bulging disc and not a hip, groin, leg, or other area problem after all. The pain from those areas was originating at the source of the problem–a bulging disc. During a few weeks of soft tissue treatment by Michelle, my pain subsided and was quickly eliminated. Michelle also guided me in establishing some continuing self-help treatment. I highly recommend Michelle Hamel to anyone with back problems, and/or herniated, bulging, or degenerative disc problems. Michelle Hamel has spent 18 years studying the neuromuscular workings of the body and has developed unique soft tissue protocols which reverse bulging, herniated, and ruptured discs and their associated pain. Michelle guarantees significant relief after your first visit. Within three to five visits you will be pain free! Michelle clearly explains to her clients what actually happens to the body when injury occurs and once healed, educates them on how they can remain painfree for life. Not only does Michelle work on the inflammation caused by disc or nerve en-

trapment, she works on the systemic inflammation caused by what we eat, drink, and think. She coaches clients with unique detoxification therapies that enhance the body’s healing processes. This detoxification re-establishes healthy lymphatic circulation throughout the body. This helps to resolve many health issues that may interfere with long-term wellness. Michelle Hamel asks that you allow her to be your coach and share her secrets to a long and healthy life with you. She is a licensed massage therapist and neuromuscular massage therapist (#MA0009077). She is also a certified nutritional coach and additionally certified in lymphatic drainage by Teslar Global Technologies Inc. In

this world everything is about relationships. The air we breathe is based on a relationship between the plants and the sky. The food we eat is a relationship between the plants, animals and humans. The water we drink is a relationship between hydrogen and oxygen. All around us are deep, spiritual and yet material relationships between the earth and sky, the sea and shore, form and ether. These relationships restore us and help us grow not only physically but spiritually. These relationships are what tie us to this human experience in which we are all immersed. These relationships are tangible and intangible, real and yet unimagined, spiritual and mundane. It is important that we step back and look at the relationships around us not with us at the center of the web but as just a part of it. As some of you know I am a nurse. I work in a hospital, a place that sometimes lacks the spiritual connectiveness on which all relationships are built. I am also a healer, an herbalist, aromatherapist, medicine woman and sometimes spiritual advisor. Yes, it is hard to sit on the edge of two worlds at times but the relationships between the two worlds keep me hopeful for humanity.

sy m b i o s i s b y D a wn G a t e s

I teach herbalism through my school and what I teach about is the relationships between what the herbs can do for us as medicine and the healing web that binds our world together. Learning about how to use herbs to heal is also about learning the relationship between the sea and the shore. One depends on another to make the other stronger. It is a lesson in love, hope, support and strength. My students often ask me how I can deal with the modern medical system when I am so obviously a hippie, spiritual, wild woman at heart and I tell them that 50% of our modern medicines come from plants in some form or another. Then I tell them that it is my hope that someday modern medicine (which really is in its infancy at 166 years of age) will realize that it really needs to balance between the two worlds of ancient healing and modern advances. It is this hope and desire to be a part of this transition that keeps me sitting in both. Soon it will be my time to stay in the world as a full-time herbalist/healer. I will continue to teach about the relationships between plants and animals, and the symbiosis we all have to each other, the great spirits and the Earth on the great web of life. Since 1994, Dawn Gates, Master Herbalist, aromatherapist, flower essence and gemstone elixir practitioner, has studied natural healing. She has herb and aromatherapy consulting offices in Paisley, Deland, and Orlando, Florida. Her school, The Live Oak School of Natural Healing, offers herbalist certification courses both in classroom and online. Visit: http://dawnsenchantedgarden.com or call for a consult. ver our lifetime, we experience many types of re l a t i o n s h i p s : parent and child, siblings, co-workers, doctor and patient, friends, sports buddies, humans and their pets, to name a few, but how often do we think about having a relationship with ourselves?

U N V E I L I N G O U R S E LV E S

BY COLLEEN GORDON

Perhaps it is time to examine how we really treat ourselves. What do we tell ourselves when no one else is around? Think about the negative self-talk we all engage in. Would you say those same things to anyone else in your life? “I’m dumb.” “I’m stupid.” “I will never accomplish what I want to in life.” “I don’t deserve anything good.” Haven’t we all said these things to ourselves? Become aware of the things you tell yourself. Remember, self-respect comes from an inner belief and not a feeling of superiority. Be true to yourself: Have faith in your own values and what is important to you. Avoid jealousy: It’s a common way of losing our joy and self-respect. Remember your motivation, not results: Work with the best of intentions and gain your self-respect from that.

Respect others: If you have no respect for

others, how can you have self-respect? Never hate yourself: We all make mistakes. We may do the wrong thing, but we should never put ourselves down unnecessarily. Forgive: Forgive others and forgive yourself. Don’t live in the past. Move on from past mistakes and difficult situations. The worst kind of loneliness is not being comfortable with yourself. LOVE OUR MOTHER

by Lekoma Akate

Building Relationships with Gardening The best gardeners and farmers build a relationship with the land they use and the plants they grow. They walk the area often and get to know it, really get to know it intimately. They know how the water drains, types of critters living in the soil and above ground, how the sun moves over the landscape, and more. Spending time with the garden listening and observing allows this relationship to develop. The gardener who has a relationship with the plants and visits them regularly, can recognize a potential problem before it becomes one. They notice the beginnings of any disease organisms, insects and other critters entering the picture. Measures can be taken at an early stage to deter the invaders if needed. Agricultural Extension Agents do not recommend spraying pesticides as a preventative and encourage using the least toxic method of control. This can be much more successful if the issue is dealt with early. Developing an intimate relationship with Mother Earth, the plants and assorted bugs and other animals who call your garden home, or perhaps a vacation spot, will actually help create an energetic that will boost plant growth and production. The soil is a living entity and

Being kind and loving to the soil and its inhabitants will have more benefit than all the fertilizer in the world. Plants have emotions and memories. Developing an intimate relationship with them will help them feel more welcome and grateful. They will sing to you, grow stronger and produce more if they feel you are truly their companion. Talk to them, touch them, be gentle when pruning or picking fruit or flowers. Ask their permission and explain why you are doing what you plan to do. Even pulling weeds with an open heart and gratitude for their contribution will increase the vibrational frequency for the whole garden. Most insects are beneficial. Encouraging them will help to minimize damage of pests, as they will be more diligent and your actions will encourage more beneficial friends to come assist. Talk to the pests with compassion and ask them to move on to another feeding ground or plant extra for them and ask them to stay on certain plants and leave the others alone. Prayer, meditation, yoga and other high vibrational practices done in the garden area will help. Everything is energy and raising the vibrational frequency of your garden area through mutually beneficial relationships with Mother Earth, the plants and all the garden inhabitants will result in them all working with you for optimal, mutual growth. REDEFINING NEIGHBORHOOD BUSINESSES: ETHICAL TRADE

by Julie Norris, Contributing Community Editor

JULIE

I was a kindergartener when White Dog Café opened in Philadelphia. I wouldn’t know about the café until after I opened my own café 22 years later. My business was founded on a Triple P bottom line— people, planet and profit–and about a year after we were opened, I came to the conclusion that if I really was committed to that foundation then revitalizing local economy was the first step towards sustainability. It took a couple more years to see a “Think Local First” campaign in full swing in my community, but while searching for those who intuited this same path towards resilience, I learned about the founder of the Business Alliance for Local Living Economies (BALLE), Judy Wicks, also founder of the legendary White Dog Café. Judy is a pioneer of bringing ethics to a table where billions are invited through her proven and mature model of what is now known as social and activist enterprise. Wicks’ memoir Good Morning, Beautiful Business: The Unexpected Journey of an Activist Entrepreneur and Local Economy Pioneer was published in Spring 2013 (Chelsea Green) and after reading the first few chapters I unexpectedly burst into tears. My own independent business had just turned seven, and I was in the process of reviewing the massive impact the localism movement had with not just my enterprise, but all of my entrepreneurial counterparts who managed

by a hair and tooth to escape collapse while huge banks and franchises folded in the economic downturn of 2009. My time spent dedicated to promoting the concepts of localism, often shifting direct focus away from my own café, was effective in ensuring a much healthier economy for us all. That time investment was seen as a risk by some and often had me in hot water with associates, but this ability to multi-focus and act as a catalyst for the local economy movement was absolutely vital, and not just to my little café. It was a dire necessity for our entire community and sense of place. We could all rise together if we combined our voices about the benefits of supporting local and independent, or, many of us would fall and be slow to recover with a “competitive, take care of your own, first” mentality. Reading this memoir from a living legend who achieved financial success alongside remarkable social change which is still sweeping the globe and redefining neighborhood business everywhere, I cried three chapters in for two reasons. One, she mentions her first period and other perfectly normal rights of passage into womanhood, letting me know this was not just any memoir–this book about business and social change from a woman’s perspective goes where a remarkable few dare to go. This sets up Judy’s approach of noticing something that needs to be seen or heard and done differently and courageously, going there to show and tell and then catalyze massive social change. Wicks is a storyteller, she delicately balances transparency with respect. She speaks of her journey to her feminine side, of questioning that stiff lipped voice in her head, of her vulnerability and doubt, and does not apologize for her style of leaping into projects and businesses without a plan, trusting her response-ability as her heart impulsed her towards this or that. The second reason I lay sobbing was because Wicks shared her experience about the shadow side women experience in a male dominated economic model. Early on, her creative gifts, relationship building skills, sense of place and ability to sense what wants to emerge were discounted because they couldn’t be quantified on a spreadsheet. Through this she realized she was a builder, not a fighter, and there was strength in walking away. She didn’t expend energy seeking justice for herself in two instances where she relied on verbal agreements that were unfortunately not upheld by the other party. Judy let go of earnings in those instances and directed her power of positive influence and transformation towards reinventing business and redefining growth, using profits as a tool to transform her community and eventually the national and global economy. Judy’s multi-focus success is founded on relationships, curiosity and courage to share and act. Reading her story will take you to the aftermath of the Acteal Massacre in Chiapas, Mexico1 where friends in the region reported paramilitary were 1 On December 22, 1997 paramilitary (state-trained and state-funded pro-governing party civil defense) forces surrounded a Catholic chapel in the pacifist Tsotsil Mayan community of Acteal, Chiapas state, Mexico. During a period of several hours, this armed force, with the apparent consent of local Mexican Army units stationed not far away, proceeded to surround Acteal’s chapel, and shot to death those inside, and as many of those who escaped as they could find. A number of residents survived the massacre. Those murdered on that day included 15 children, 21 women (four of them pregnant) and nine men.

As

we examine the quality of the intimacy in our relationships, we might ask the question, “What is love?” Is it an emotion? Is it a feeling? Or is it something greater? Coming from a place of love we are born with this ever-expanding all powerful juggernaut inside of us. It’s neither learned nor developed, but part of our DNA makeup. It’s already inside us waiting for us to experience it for ourselves. Singer Whitney Houston so eloquently expressed this as The Greatest Love of All. As we grew up, in many ways it became harder and harder to fully express our unconditional love. We allowed outside circumstances to affect us inside. Sometimes we craved love from someone else and lost our way. We forgot that love is always inside us awaiting its unconditional expression. As we define love and how it shows up in our relationships with others, it’s great to express our love for someone else, but are we doing the same for ourselves? How do we feel if we’re not in a relationship—if we don’t get a card for Valentine’s Day, for example? A great exercise in teaching self-love at a young age would be to have children send Valentine’s Day cards to themselves. In this way, we can begin to experience loving who we just as we are. The Greatest Love of All talks about our children and how we must start very young “showing them all the beauty they possess inside.”

The Greatest L ov e o f A l l by Anthony J. Diaz tap into it yet. How can we tap into it?

Love may be explained as an emotion, a feeling we express, but in the bigger picture, love is a state of being. When someone talks about being in love, it usually involves another person, but actually we are always in love–with ourselves, with how we live our lives. Being able to express love to someone else begins by learning to love ourselves unconditionally. When we do, it cannot be taken away. If we are having trouble loving ourselves, it doesn’t mean unlimited unconditional love isn’t there— we just haven’t been able to

Close your eyes and think of the laughing baby who is feeling love with total abandon. The baby in you wants to express its unconditional unlimited love of yourself, of life, of everything and everyone. Feel that feeling, what that feels like. That’s the place to come from always–in all ways. When we realize that we are the love in our lives, we begin our journey to being in loving, healthy relationships. Loving ourselves is not only the way we allow ourselves the joy of loving another. It’s a state of being that starts and ends our lives and fills everything in between. It’s the place of The Greatest Love of All! When you believe it–you can weave it–you shall conceive it–you will achieve it! Remember—you are perfect—you are powerful—you are on purpose! Now go out and live the life you dream of, desire and deserve! In-Joy, my friends. Namasté. Anthony J. he people closest to us in the world are our family members. It is said, “Those not of the same family will not enter the same door.” When we spend a long enough time with our family, we end up sharing each other’s views, spirit, and habits. However, even in the same family, there are times when different viewpoints surface and arguments can ensue. Because of work or study, members of a family have disparate schedules, but since they are of the same family, they should be understanding and tolerant of one another.

One’s Family

BY VENERABLE MASTER HSING YUN

In the same family, some people like music and others literature, sports, travel, or meditation. Even when their interests and personalities vary, they should admire each other’s character and respect one another’s existence. Because of their gratitude for parental nurturing and natural bonding with their siblings, family members are more willing to go through thick and thin together. Though there may be a big argument one day, everything will usually be fine the next. Therefore, the home should be a nest of peace and harmony, a safe harbor in life. Family members are always our support, and the home is the pit stop that never closes for replenishment. Those traveling abroad for some time will want to come home when they can to share their feelings with family members. They can talk about their successes and setbacks and the gains and losses they have realized, because their family will not betray them. Family is a recycling center that will not reject anything from its members. However, even when all family members share the same food and shelter, they can still have different personalities. They may be loyal, treacherous, wise, or foolish. Some children enhance the family morale, bringing glory to its members. But there are those who squander the family fortune and estate. Being part of the same family, members should always support each other

with encouragement and emphasize the importance of contributing to the family peacefully in order to preserve its lineage over time. A family usually consists of blood relations. But people who are not related to one another by blood can also become a family. For instance, practitioners living and working in a temple come from all backgrounds, and they are not related. However, because of their faith and Dharma lineage, they are a close as family. There are people who consider each other family for other reasons. Examples of such are foster or adopted children and “sworn” brothers and sisters. People with different family names can also be part of one family. Christians belonging to the same order often address one another as brothers and sisters, and in Buddhism, whether they are monastics or laity, practitioners refer to each other as “dharma brothers and sisters.” It means they consider one another family members. Family is not limited to the same surname or origin, and neither is it confined within the same house. It can be expanded to “universal brotherhood within the four oceans.” The world today is a global village, and “the corner of heaven is as close as next door.” When we consider all nations and races in the world as our family and siblings, are we not further enhancing global harmony? Family is the key unit to any human organization. When we start from this key unit and expand the love and closeness of a family to all of humanity, the notion of family will certainly become much more meaningful. Redefining Neighborhood Businesses, continued from page 18 after the supporters of the Zapatista’s2 indigenous rights movement and alerted her to the shocking situation in Mexico that was not making American headlines. Judy couldn’t let this pass unnoticed and formed Businesses for Ethical Trade and Human Rights in Chiapas (BETHRIC), an alliance of American import business owners to discover firsthand what was going on. Her connections formed through her international sister restaurant program sparked a heartfelt desire to make a difference and she called upon her business relationships to generate news coverage and build a financial bridge by loaning money to ensure the next crop would be purchased from a devastated coffee cooperative which eventually flourished. That trip showed her “the Zapatista’s call for independence and local self-reliance was the call of threatened communities everywhere” and the experience nurtured “the seeds of my own role in the global rebellion against corporate globalization. In the call of the Zapatista’s, I discovered my own voice of protest and eventually my call for a new economy. This was my fight, too.” Her story continues through a recent history lesson on social finance, local food, animal husbandry, the localism movement, and shares being discovered by Ben & Jerry’s Ben Cohen and lessons learned from their takeover as well as greats like David Korten and many other change agents blazing a path towards a more just and equitable society. Wicks also shares specific business practices and programming that continue to inspire even the most progressive of entrepreneurs, myself included. She outlines her unique Social Contract arrangement to sell White Dog while licensing the brand as a way of ensuring the purchasing practices and ethos of the business were carried forward into the future so her suppliers would find some protection and patrons could still trust the products even though Judy was not at the helm. To say that Judy Wicks is the godmother of American independent business would be appropriate, but do not let that title make you think her time has come and gone. Indeed, now is the time for our godmothers’ voices around the world to be heard and respected. She’s shared her fascinating story thus far, and the dizzying amount of accomplishments this one woman is responsible for is certainly far from over. In fact, each person who sinks into this book will feel largely validated that their intuition that a more just and sustainable approach to business and community is a practical, possible and certain path forward. Anyone who seeks inspiration to create the enterprise and community they always imagined possible will find it overflowing with gems. Forget about climbing a ladder or building an empire. In Judy’s economy, serving others comes first based on authentic relationships, thinking with heart and brain, and placemaking as the foundation for resilient communities, sustainable business and growing happiness.

stuff. So powerful that it’s almost impossible for most people to maneuver their minds around it. Miracles? You’ve got to be kidding. That kind of stuff absolutely goes against everything we’ve been taught since childhood. Our left-brain educational system isn’t going to lead us to an easy, comfortable understanding of something like instantaneous transformation. But here’s the rub…we don’t actually need to be led to understand this remarkable type of transformation. That understanding is already wired deeply within in us, just waiting to be set free. More than an understanding, it’s a profound knowing coming straight from the heart.

CLARDY

I didn’t plan to become an energy healer. And most certainly not a remote healer. That’s moving way into the realm of crazy stuff or at least the old me would have thought so. I can assure you that becoming a remote healer wasn’t on my list of 1000 Things to Do Before I Die. There I was, a former multimillionaire entrepreneur, comfortable in any boardroom, confident in my abilities to create success in just about any situation around me… watchby Clardy Malugen, MA, MFA ing and experiencing transformations that just couldn’t possibly Contributing Personal Transformation Editor be happening. No way. It was breathtaking. And confusing. And upsetting. And exhilarating. Completely out of my realm of believability but happening all the same. My own world got turned upside down. And as crazy as my mind was telling me that it all was, my heart was telling me that I was home. I’ll never forget that powerful battle between my head and my heart, but in the end, I chose home, as we all ultimately do. And the rest is history. We are all energy healers. We are all capable of utilizing our energy to help other living things to become Does the universe really support you when you choose to align with your whole, to move from states of distress or disease into essence? Yes. I’m living proof. In those moments when I am doubting and states of health and wholeness. That’s what you do searching, someone or something always shows up. Like the ex-boyfriend every time you share your positive energy with another human being. A that I hadn’t seen in 35 years. Would I have even tried to heal someone simple smile or words of encouragement originating from a space of love of such a serious knee problem, if he had not been standing in front of and light can literally raise the energy frequency of someone who may me? Probably not. Did his walking away without a cane for the first time be struggling and give them the boost they need to get back on track to in years make an impact on me? You bet. And how about that episode at wholeness. That boost may be transformational for them. Life-changing. my son’s birthday party? Would I have ever attempted to heal a fractured Healing. Your energy is powerful. bone? I honestly don’t think so. But in that moment, a child was in pain

You are an energy healer.

The truth is that everything is all about energy. It always has been and it always will be. I’ve been teaching and speaking and writing about this for years, and it just keeps getting more and more obvious, more simple, more profound. There’s nothing but energy. Apply that concept to your life and you’re home free. Searching for the answers to a relationship issue? Worried about paying the bills this month? Running from doctor to doctor to finally find a cure for whatever is ailing you? The solution to all of these “problems” gets back to energy. Follow the energy pattern toward its source, past the struggles, past the blocks, and it will take you home–home to clarity, peace, and an introduction to your true essence. Sound too simple? It may not always feel easy in the moment, but simple it is–profoundly simple. Eliminating blocks and linking people back to the power of their true essence is ultimately the essence of all energy healing… physical, emotional, and spiritual. Once people reunite with the passion and energy of their truth, once they experience the power of that pure energy, any disease or distress just seems to melt away. At that point, it’s no longer about healing. Once the blocks are released and there is an alignment with the inner essence, we move out of the realm of simple healing and into the realm of total transformation. Instantaneous transformation. Miracles. Quantum physics. Source field energy. Powerful stuff. Very very powerful

and I simply wanted to help him. Did that transformation/healing shock me? Absolutely. I’ll never forget the moment when that child and I both heard the bone pop and watched it move. Our eyes were locked in awe. It was miraculous. Did that make an impact? Of course it did. And what about the two Chinese physicists who showed up at my door to test my energy with laser devices just when I was certain I had gone nuts? How did they seem to just show up right at that moment and ultimately offer scientific proof of the power of this energy? How in the world did that happen? A series of bizarre coincidences? I don’t think so. So what’s my advice? Open your mind and your heart to the world of unlimited possibilities no matter how scary it might feel. The world of instantaneous miracles is more real, more rich, and more inviting than you can possibly imagine. Let go of the limitations that have stifled your true essence and take that first step. The voice within you will be leading the way. You don’t have to know where you’re going. Just trust. It gets easier and more exhilarating as you go… step by step by step. Clardy Malugen, author, speaker, and founder of The Magnificence Project, is a nationally recognized expert in the field of human consciousness. A gifted medical intuitive and master healer, Clardy has facilitated hundreds of instantaneous transformations of both emotional and physical limitations that have been described as miraculous. Her recent book Let’s Manifest Miracles! powerfully supports her work and is an important tool for both personal and planetary transformation. Please see ad previous page.

SELFLESS MOTHERING

pregnancy and

chiropractic

by Cynthia Gabaldon, D.C.

When I first tell people I am a chiropractor and my practice serves 90% prenatal and pediatric patients, they are shocked. The most common thought of chiropractic is associated with back pain or a car accident, not pregnant women or babies. And yet, once I begin to elaborate, the relationship makes perfect sense! Chiropractors do not prescribe drugs. We know the body uses symptoms or pain to signal a disruption in the normal communication between the nervous system and the body. When bones misalign, they have an effect on the surrounding muscles and nerves and cause symptoms or pain. By aligning the bones, the pain is resolved and health is restored. When a woman is pregnant, her uterus grows from about the size of a tennis ball to the size of a beach ball. The placenta produces a hormone called Relaxin to allow the whole body to become physically looser. Relaxin relaxes the intrauterine ligaments, allowing the uterus and pelvis to expand. Relaxin also relaxes arteries which have to accommodate a much higher blood volume. The musculoskeletal system also loosens up giving more flexible joints and more curvature in the back to prepare for carrying and delivering a baby. It is this increase in Relaxin that makes it easy for bones to misalign and causes many of the discomforts commonly found with pregnancy. Some of these include back pain, hip and pelvis pain, and pain at the pubic bone. By gently adjusting the bones to their normal position and consequently freeing the nerves, the symptoms and pain are resolved. Another condition I see regularly in practice is rib head malposition. As the baby grows, the mother’s center of gravity changes. Her upper mid back muscles tighten to hold her posture upright. This can pull the ribs from their normal contact along the spine and pinch the nerves responsible for lifting and lowering the ribcage in breathing. This presents as a shortness of breath decreasing the amount of oxygen for mother and baby and making it harder to exercise comfortably. Of particular importance is the alignment of the pelvis for the baby to come through during labor. The baby’s head is brought deeper into the pelvis with each contraction. In the best scenario, the plates of the baby’s skull contact the rim of the pelvis, and the size of the skull decreases as the plates overlap and “mold” to fit through the canal efficiently. If the pelvis is misaligned, however,

the baby may not be lined up to mold efficiently. In other words, it could take the baby longer to match up with the pelvis to cause the overlap necessary to fit through the pelvis. If it takes a baby 12 hours as opposed to six hours, the mother could become exhausted and find it difficult to push, but if the pelvis is properly aligned, the baby could find a more efficient exit route and conserve the energy the mother needs to push the baby out.

These are just a few conditions, but once we begin to discuss the common complaints of pregnancy, it is clear that chiropractic and pregnancy are a natural match. om o l B f l e s r u o Y t e L by Nils Taranger I heard a legend about a blue flower of healing that was impossible to find. Being born with an indented chest that I was very self-conscious of, I was interested in finding a miraculous cure. I also wanted to find healing in my relationship with my mother who did not accept my homosexuality. I decided to search for the blue flower and film my journey along the way. I tried many different healing modalities–pranic, theta, past life, you name it. I benefited in some way from each and every person I met on my search. But my chest didn’t change. I looked at it every day in the mirror hoping I could see some slight indication that I had found the flower of healing. My mother didn’t change either. My heart was broken, physically and emotionally. After many failed attempts at healing, I decided to spend 14 days in complete darkness in my bedroom. I had read that extended periods without light could cause visions. I was hoping I could find the blue flower in the dark. It was a scary time. After the first few days, I began to see demons that would get right up in my face. By Day 12, I had given up on finding the blue flower. I cried and resigned myself to being broken forever. I fell asleep, and

my mother came to me in a dream. She looked me in the eyes and said, “I want us to count to three and say the word LOVE, then the first word that comes to your mind. Ready? One, two, three, love…” I woke myself up from the dream saying, “Love yourself.” That dream changed my life. The final two days in the dark were filled with rainbows, whirling stars, and a beautiful blue flower in the center of my forehead. I began to realize that the only thing I ever needed to do to find healing was to love myself. Then it didn’t matter what my chest looked like or what my mom thought. If I remembered to let myself bloom, I could become the blue flower and experience complete healing. I came out of the dark and basked in the sunlight, reborn. My life has changed dramatically. Now I’m a Tantra instructor for men helping them heal sexually by experiencing physical self-love. I planted a blue water lily in the garden at the 729 Community Center,1 and I spend many mornings there watching it bloom and drinking blue lily tea. I love that flower so much. I love myself SO much. You do too… just let yourself bloom! Nils Taranger is a filmmaker and Tantra instructor in Orlando. The Vegetarians of Central Florida Community by Jessi VanPelt We are a community of teachers, students, retired people, scientists, lawyers, artists and many more. Many of us are vegan, and many are vegetarian. We are veg for the animals, for the environment, for our health, for laborer safety, for world hunger issues, for spiritual reasons, and many more. We are Christian, we are Buddhist, we are Jewish, we are Muslim, we are atheist, we are many more. Some of us love to cook, some of us can’t boil water. The one thing that binds us is our meatless diet. Our group, Vegetarians of Central Florida, meets up several times each month–to support our local vegetarian/vegan restaurants, meet new friends, see old friends, share a meal, learn new things. We host many activities, including: monthly potlucks, volunteer trips to animal rescues, cooking classes, bake sales, prominent speakers, raw food special events, picnics, and movie nights. We recently hosted our 8th annual Central Florida Earth Day, an all-vegan festival at Lake Eola, with 175 eco-friendly vendors plus 150 contributors, drawing around 12,000 attendees. Many of us volunteered at the event, supporting the activities we present, including: food prep demonstrations, kids’ activities, ask-a-vegan booth, speakers, music, and more. We host a similar festival, Central Florida Veg Fest, every October. We also reach out to the Central Florida community by tabling at other events and using the profits from our festivals for environmental and humane education. My personal favorite Meetups that VegCF hosts are the monthly potluck and the Wekiwa canoe trip every September. I also appreciate our Facebook community where we talk about everything from food safety and animal rights issues, to new veg products and recipes. I joined VegCF in 2007 not knowing any other vegetarians. Thanks to VegCF and another Meetup, Animal Rights Florida, I now have a large group of supportive friends that share my diet and values. I became vegetarian at age 11, after buying a “rib” sandwich in the school cafeteria and realizing I didn’t want to eat anything that had “ribs!” I fell away from being vegetarian in college, but decided when I moved near a Whole Foods later on, that was a good time to start again. I found VegCF soon after, and haven’t looked back! I hope you will join us! Jessi VanPelt is a member of VegCF since 2007, volunteer organizer and vegan since 2009, and Executive Director since 2013. She’s a graphic designer, dog and cat rescuer, multi-tasking baker and yogi. Reach Jessi at Jessi@VegCF.org.

We are living in an ocean of chaotic energy (houses, offices, vehicles, etc.). The electricity running through our homes are 60 hertz and both our pets and us are approximately 10 hertz. That is around six times more than what our bodies are designed to handle. I am very sensitive to artificial EMFs and so I created a lifestyle of grounding and using products that neutralize the effects of EMFs. My life is now full of joy. It is much calmer, more centered, more energy, better concentration, less pain and more connected to everything and everyone. The more we connect to nature, the more joyful, healthy, calm, happy and loving we will feel. Learn more about artificial frequencies by reading the Anastasia series of books by Vladimir Megre. Dr. Masaru Emoto’s The Miracle of Water demonstrates the effects of electromagnetic fields emitted by mobile phones, televisions, microwaves and computers. (The microwave photo is particularly alarming.)

There are simple things you can do to counteract chaotic energies:

1) Unplug electronic devices when not in use. 2) Use only the speakerphone of cordless and cellphones. 3) Use laptops, tablets and any battery operated devices disconnected from the electric power source. 4) Use your devices the least amount of time possible. 5) After each hour of computer use, television viewing or exposure to any electronic device, take a several minute break and do the chicken dance :) or better still, touch a tree for three minutes. 6) Go barefoot as often as possible. It creates a natural shield. 7) Keep yourself hydrated and avoid coffee, sodas, alcohol and cigarettes. Drinking pure water helps carry toxins out. 8) When traveling in vehicles, make frequent stops to touch a tree to ground yourself. Ground yourself immediately after traveling in an airplane. 9) Stand far away from and avoid microwaves as much as possible. 10) Walk barefoot in the water at the beach as often as you can.

Please do your own research and make wise choices about everything you do to yourself and our environment. HEALING

The secret of healing is to cause health by removing those artificial obstacles which impede the natural flow of life. This is not to say removal of any obstacles is an easy task, but we must work at and eventually receive our just due.

“We are not the body. We are not the mind. We are the ones who have mind and body.” [ Deepak Chopra, MD ]

Of all the arts and sciences, life itself is the greatest and most profound. Life is the one thing that we work at over and over making things just what we think they should be. It takes many years of school and learning to train a physician or a lawyer in his profession, but it requires many lives of experience and thoughtfulness to bring a human being into the fullness of his own humanity. In order to be a successful human being man must study the laws which govern his development and then apply those laws to every aspect of his living–physically, mentally and emotionally. Philosophy is preventive medicine, because it teaches us about health and how it can be preserved, and if lost, how it can be regained.

The first necessary element of health is the discovery of the spirit world. Our personal living is based on how we perceive the world in which we live and the world that we will graduate to when we make the change called death. We must look for the wisdom, peace and beauty that will make us able to understand our place in this world and in the next. When we can look at these things and understand the laws that govern, we will be able to have the courage we need for the action to make our lives better here and hereafter. We will finally find peace, harmony and happiness in our mind. The second necessary element of health is in understanding and knowing we are beings with an eternal soul. We will live on and on learning of the realization that there is a continuity in the development of all things. In all things there is an evolution of time and purpose. There is success to all who learns to live in harmony with the world. The purpose of life here and hereafter is growth and knowledge of the natural laws that govern all things. The third element is sharing as we learn and develop. We must learn to share our knowledge and use it to help our fellow human beings. This knowledge is best used when it is shared. This element is also one that will be with us on this earth plane and in the next world we move into. As we learn to live together in peace and harmony, we will find peace, harmony and health for ourselves as well as see it develop in others. The fourth element is one that we learned from our beginning time on this earth plane. We must learn to release stress and tension; we must learn to allow ourselves to have time for things that will enable us to indulge in the arts, philosophy and literature. There must be time in our lives devoted to helping ourselves to learn of culture. There must be time to release tension and allow us to have the ideas in our mind so that we may acquire the understanding of life here and hereafter. Health is precious to all of us. Without our health we would be unable to accomplish the tasks we have in our mind. Health must be the result of an adequate cause. Reverend E. all the addictions humans suffer, our addiction to food is the greatest and most challenging to rise above. We may deny we have a food addiction, that we must eat to survive and that is all it is–a necessity. This is convenient to say when we are resisting being truthful with ourselves. The truth is we don’t really require food to survive. Breatharians on the planet live very long lives of vitality who do not eat food but survive on the prana they derive from the breath.

Some of Our Relationships to Food Include:

Survival: We all understand we require food to give our bodies the nourishment they need to survive; some of us even correctly believe the right nutrition can help us repair, rejuvenate and heal our bodies and minds. Social: We tend to center our holiday celebrations, family gatherings, sports events, dates and shopping trips around food, partly because we must nourish our bodies during these time periods and largely because it’s fun. We dine out or create elaborate smorgasbords encouraging near orgies of eating. Comfort and Safety: Food is often used by many of us to comfort us in our emotional suffering or pain. We call mashed

potatoes ‘comfort food,’ for example. We believe the soft, warm texture gives us comfort when it is only a temporary ‘fix’ (thus the addiction). True and lasting comfort can only come from within the divinity of our selves. It is widely regarded as true that some eat larger quantities of processed non-nutritious food in an effort to protect themselves. As one example, some persons who are considered morbidly obese recount stories of childhood abuse of many kinds. As they grow older and they refuse to forgive themselves and their abusers, they continually take weight on their bodies as a form of protective armor which keeps them from establishing true intimacy with other people. Aphrodisiacal: Some foods give us temporary ‘highs’ or stimulation–a clear sign of food addiction if we seek these. Raising of Consciousness: This is the least considered possible relationship we can have with food. Depending on the vibratory frequency of the food we eat, it has the capacity to uplift or damage our own velocity. Cooked food being mostly, if not completely dead, has little ability to rejuvenate or heal or uplift and expand our auric fields. Perhaps one day soon, the raising of our consciousness will be our primary relationship food. We are attached to food, its benefits and other payoffs, but we tend to be detached from knowing the truth about food. We don’t seem to care that packaged food is impersonally factory manufactured, often stirred or cut by robotic machines and blades or touched by the hands of many people who are angry or sad and unconsciously placing those vibratory frequencies into the food we ultimately consume. Even the produce we buy may be picked by persons who have been mistreated by their employers and with every touch of the head of lettuce or pick of the nectarine, their emotional frequency enters our food. We don’t seem to care much if our produce has been genetically engineered with animal genes spliced into the genes of fruit. Do we wonder what effects this will one day create in our bodies? The implications can be devastating. Why is it that we don’t concern ourselves very much with the fact that one major corporation has control over most of our food supply as this monster machine aggressively works to alter the very essence of earth’s bounty and thus impair our own vitality? With the prophecied Earth Changes well underway a day may come relatively soon when, out of necessity, we will have only one relationship to food–to literally survive. We might be wise to begin proactively shifting our relationship to food now. Earth herself. I write more, sing more and play guitar more.

Over the last three and a half years I have attended and explored a multitude and variety of Panache Desai’s events, webcasts and products and the impact they have had on my life is indescribable, but I’m going to give it a try to describe it…

I won’t say it is all thanks to Panache Desai because it was my choice and responsibility to follow through to the degree that I did with the leaps forward I was propelled into through my exposure to him and his work. But I couldn’t have done it without him, and I am very grateful.

I used to drink a whole lot. I don’t anymore. I used to dislike, resent and fear my siblings. I like them now. I can stand up to them when I feel the need and understand that like me, they are only doing the best they can. I used to work myself into exhaustion, depression and rage at a job I didn’t like. I now have the pleasure of loving people for a living and I love it. I used to be too embarrassed to dance or sing in front of people by myself unless I was drinking. Now I’ll sing and harmonize loudly in the grocery store aisles and dance with wild abandon with hundreds of people at one in the afternoon. I used to be in an “If only he would change,” 13-year, non-relationship with a man I couldn’t seem to tear myself away from. Consider me torn yet more pieced and glued together than ever before. I lash out less when I’m angry. I allow myself to cry more when I’m sad. I breathe and relax more when I’m overtaken by fear. I judge myself less for what I think and feel. I used to hate almost everything about myself. I am learning and willing to love and honor myself as much as I love and honor others. I used to have little to no opinion or grasp of the possibility of God or what that might be. I now know that unconditional Love exists and I have experienced it–from the outside in and the inside out. I also know that unconditional Love exists within everyone, everywhere.

Panache Desai is hosting a Global Gathering in Orlando during the Summer Solstice. I hope to see you there. Angela Sparks is an intuitive awareness mentor, medium and musician who is available for readings by phone, Skype or in person in Melbourne. Please see this page. Panache Desai is hosting the Global Gathering 2013: Living in the Heart of Possibility in Orlando, June 21-23. Please visit www.PanacheDesai.com for details.

In the last three and a half years my abilities as an intuitive and medium have expanded exponentially. I have gotten to know and love stones, trees and flowers as I would my pets. I have connected deeply with Mother

the

Heart

Flame

by Eileen “Kalika” Taft Certified Breath of Love™ Practitioner

My article, A Sojourn through Bhakti Yoga, published in the March/ April 2013 issue of Velocity, gave readers an overview and flavor of the series of three retreats encompassed within the Sojourn. (This article can be read on my blog, www.solspeaks.com, as a post by the same name.) The first retreat of the series, Worshipping the Heart Flame, will be held June 7-9 at the Night Swan Intracoastal Bed and Breakfast in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, and is the focus of this article. Most individuals have a cursory familiarity with the word chakra and the chakra system. The heart chakra is a portal that each person travels through on the inner planes to experience their own Heart Flame, their own unique spark of God (Soul or Higher Self ) which resides within the most subtle body of the heart area known as the causal body (Anandamaya), thus the Heart Flame is synonymous to the Divine Presence, the Self (God), embodied in each human being. You are already the Self. There is no-thing for you to become. There is no-thing for you to do. You are already wholly perfect, wholly complete. You have simply forgotten who you are and what your true nature is. This is the purpose of stepping onto the yogic path—to wake up to your true reality, your true nature—to realize the Self, and by so doing attain union with and merge with God (yoga). CALL TO VERIFY [ Leo Buscaglia, 1924–June 1998, also known as “Dr. Love,” was an American author Readers are encouraged to call your event and motivational speaker ] venue to verify date, time, and any applicable fees for events.

Worshipping the Heart Flame continued from page 37 Practices like the breath energy modality, Breath of Love,™ provide us with a tool for moving into our heart space and through its portal to consciously experience the Presence of the Self. Once we have moved into this space, we will experience this Presence within our physical body as Divine Love, Pure Love. When we have moved into the heart space via Breath of Love™ and are experiencing the Self, we are surrendered to the Divine. We feel the devotion (bhakti) that springs forth from our heart as we are surrendered to the Divine. In that moment, we are “worshipping the Heart Flame.” This first retreat in the Sojourn series, Worshipping the Heart Flame, has been designed to provide participants with five Breath of Love™ sessions one of which will be on the beach. Each journey will take us deeper and deeper into the Presence of our Heart Flame, bringing us deeper and deeper into relationship with ourself, the Self. Debra, Heather and I are excited about meeting you in this sacred field, about being in relationship with you. Blessings and Namasté! A B S O LU T E V I TA L I T Y

An Up Close and Personal Interview With Jeff Primack, Founder and Visionary of Supreme Science Qigong With Holistic Celebrity Chef Interviewer Deanna Cook Deanna Cook (DC): I had no clue really of what Qigong was prior to this interview, but now after watching you train instructors for a week, researching your testimonies, and trying some of your smoothies I think it’s very important for people to know exactly what Qigong is, so let me begin by asking you what is Qigong really all about? Jeff Primack (JP): Qigong is the art of harnessing Qi which directly affects the blood flow and is an exercise that makes your blood pulse. This pulsing occurs by moving Qi using specific breathing techniques along with postures and slow graceful movements. Qigong also encompasses using healing foods, herbs, acupressure and yogic stretches all of which energize the body, increase vitality and accelerate metabolism. Qigong is circulation. The phrase blood flow is synonymous with moving Qi. Many studies confirm practicing Qigong reduces drug withdrawal in heroin addicts by 50 percent. Studies also reveal that Qigong boosts the immune system and is beneficial for those fighting cancer. Dr. Oz was quoted as saying that if you want to live to be 100, do Qigong. These techniques originated over 3000 years ago by mountain wanderers, people who were highly activated by Qi. DC: I practice yoga a few times a week and find the methods of Qigong to be quite different. Can you tell us how Qigong is different from yoga or other healing therapies like acupuncture? JP: Good question. Qigong is different from yoga primarily because it requires slower more gracious movements to harness our electromagnetic field. Some Qigong exercises build muscle or speed, but most are a pulsation of Qi through the body. Qigong is the sensation of energy and is highly tangible. A few advanced

systems of yoga like Kriya Yoga have striking similarities to Qigong in that they move energy directly, however compared to most systems of yoga, Qigong has a much greater emphasis on precise breathing techniques. Qigong deals with smaller movements of the abdomen to circulate Qi and more precise movements of the hands, rooting into the earth and opening up pathways of energy. Yoga works with energy but to a lesser degree and although we practice and love yoga, Qigong does what yoga cannot. We train many thousands of yoga teachers and they are always blown away by the tangibility of Qi experienced at our seminar. In regards to acupuncture, Qigong doesn’t use needles for treatment, however Qigong is self-healing and directly affects the source of disease which is poor circulation to various organs and body areas. Acupuncture is excellent for eliminating many health issues, but the fact Qigong can be done by yourself free of charge makes it special. Most acupuncturists are strong believers in Qigong and some actually prescribe Qigong exercises to their patients in between treatments. DC: I was blown away after doing your Breath Empowerment exercise. I was actually buzzing inside! Using scientific terms, can you tell us what this buzzing is and what happened to my body?

JP: The buzz is a reaction caused by increased levels of oxygen and negative ions that accelerate the vibration of mitochondria. Many describe the inner buzzing or vibrational feeling as a natural high. It

activates the body’s natural endorphins and dopamine. This form of activation helps the blood cell structure become rounder and improves the health of blood cells. Bacteria and cancer thrive in an anaerobic (low oxygen) environment and therefore Qigong breathing techniques can help kill harmful microorganisms and reverse infections from candida and many types of skin breakouts caused by harmful bacteria overgrowth. Eating alkaline foods can help do this, however the breath is simply the most direct route to transform the blood. A few medical doctors have explained to me that Breath Empowerment creates a highly alkaline condition in the blood. I believe it after seeing the images of live blood cell analysis before and after doing our techniques. Deanna Cook has owned several organic restaurants, is a holistic celebrity chef and has appeared on the Food Network. Jeff Primack is a Qigong teacher who has studied with many Qigong masters from all over the world and has taught over 40,000 people in live seminars.

elationships are one of the strongest catalysts for personal growth known to humankind.

Through them we live “mirror my silence, the spectrum so i know where to put words of experience, mirror my illness, ranging from so i know where to send healing the greatest mirror my darkness, highs of love so i know where to shed light” to the deepest caverns of grief. It’s a tricky thing to maintain inner awareness while engaged in the dance of life with others. As a teacher once said to me, “we are all in different places in the fog”. If we depend on those around us as channels to clarity (or judge them harshly for being where they are), we are likely to stumble off our soul’s course. In order to mine the greatest value from the confusion inherent in relationships, it is good to stay mindful of how they reflect the relationship we have with our inner world.

by Molly MacCartney

Mirrors of the Soul:

Relationships as Catalysts for Personal Growth

Whenever I have difficulty in any relationship (be it a partner, friend, family, colleague or strang- I get lost in fog of misunderstanding: How er), I have learned to ask myself this before does this other person’s irritating or negative quality reflect something in me that creates stress or inhibits my soul’s expression? How do my judgments about this person’s behavior reflect my judgments toward this part of myself? How does that judgment make me feel, and what do I wish to do about it now that I know? Once I have discerned these reflections, I am struck by a calming humility first. Whether I feel victimized, over-critical, frustrated, or saddened in reference to the other person’s behavior - I realize that this challenging energy is also circulating within, like a background virus on a computer, disturbing my peace from the inside out. It would not be-

come so inflamed by its own reflection if it were not already festering. Once I realize this, I am able to focus my consciousness towards loving and healing the part of me that has called for my attention through the strange message of a relationship difficulty. Once the perspective has shifted for us, we allow others to be who they are. We don’t tend to be bothered by what we are not focused on, and through our own clarity we are better equipped to see if any other obstacles remain in the relationship. If we are truly being mistreated or dishonored, that clarity gives us strength to protect ourselves and/or end the situation out of self-love. If we find out in the end it was just our own shadows making trouble, forgiveness and shared love can prevail, helping any worthwhile relationship flourish in the wake of inner obstacles. Mercury:

A B S O LU T E V I TA L I T Y

Lead’s More Dangerous Twin

Reprinted with permission from the book Mercury-Free by James E. Hardy, DMD Almost everyone knows of lead’s adverse health effects. Mental and physical damage can occur, ranging from lowered IQs to permanent physical handicaps. Mercury is more dense and deadly than lead. Lead even floats on liquid mercury. As a matter of fact, lead is allowed in drinking water at concentrations 7.5 times that of mercury. Mercury poisoning has symptoms identical to lead poisoning, but mercury is a liquid at room temperature, unlike lead. Being a liquid, mercury evaporates at normal temperatures poisoning the air, while lead, being a solid, does not. Until lead melts, one cannot breathe its vapors. Mercury melts at -40 degrees Celsius or -129.6 degrees Fahrenheit. Lead doesn’t liquefy or melt until it reaches 327.4 degrees Celsius or 621.3 degrees Fahrenheit. If you leave water in a pot at room temperature, it eventually evaporates (turns into vapor). Mercury does the same. Lead, because it remains solid, does not. This is why mercury is more dangerous than lead. Mercury vapor–the main exposure from mercury fillings–allows mercury great mobility in our bodies and the environment. And mercury vapor is readily converted into the supercharged poison organic mercury by naturally-occurring bacteria found in bodies of water and in our own bodies. Amalgam can kill people if handled improperly. The next story examines one such incident in Michigan in 1989.

Heating Amalgam Kills Four, 1989

It was late August 1989. The place was Michigan. Four people–two men and two women who lived in the same home lay dead. Less than a month earlier, they were hospitalized after complaining of chest pain, diarrhea, nausea and shortness of breath. Their breathing became more labored and difficult. Four days into their hospital stay, it was learned that one of the men had been collecting mercury amalgam dental fillings. He had been heating them up in the basement so he could extract the small amount of silver from the fillings to sell. Substantial respiratory support, along with aggressive medical procedures to remove mercury from their bodies were initiated to no avail. All four died of mercury poisoning. Their house was extensively cleaned in the hopes of removing the mercury. But the cleaning failed and the contaminated house was declared unfit for habitation. It had to be torn down. We can only hope that the mercury-laden rubble was disposed of as hazardous waste. Those people died from breathing mercury vapor that came from heating the same type of fillings that are in 100 million Americans’ teeth. Mercury amalgams are being placed into human beings at an alarming rate. It is estimated that 100 million new fillings containing mercury are placed in teeth each year in the U.S. alone. I am aware of no material except mercury amalgam that is used daily in our bodies by medicine or dentistry that can contaminate whole buildings and kill people simply by being heated. The material that killed these people is what you may be chewing on this moment. Chewing has been shown to dramatically increase the mercury vapor released from amalgams, due to the heat and friction generated from the pressure of chewing. One study found that more than 15 times the mercury vapor was released from amalgams after chewing as compared to non-chewing times. James E. Hardy, DMD, graduated in 1982 from Washington University School of Dental Medicine. He has had a mercury-free practice since his first patient and has given close to 200 lectures on mercury-free, health-centered dentistry both nationally and internationally. He is the author of the book, Mercury Free, and has assisted in the writing of an anti-mercury bill in the U. S. House of Representatives. I SEE YOU!

A tribal expression in many cultures that recognizes the self in others by Dr. Albert Nuñez, DVM | Contributing Spiritual Life Editor

AL

Over time I have come to realize that relationships are not something we know about but something we experience. We are actually defined by the quality of our relationships. I asked a group of women to define relationships in one word. They blurted out compromise, communication, passion, compassion and pleasure. A few others offered companionship and security. Many people define relationships by what they receive versus what they give and wonder why they are so lonely. When people realize a deep connection with everything around them they begin to interact differently with their environment. They begin to give more and take less. The quality of their interactions and relationships improves as their love grows. I asked my daughter to pull out a couple of

cards from Louise L. Hay’s Wisdom Cards. The first card read, “All of my relationships are enveloped in love.” The card explained that we are all students and teachers to each other. The second card read, “I accept all parts of myself,” and the flip side, “I love and accept myself exactly as I am.” I pulled a third card that read, “My love is Limitless.” I got a kick out of the reverse side which said, “One of the bonuses about loving myself is that I get to feel good.” My Self doesn’t end on this side of my skin but extends out into the center of every thing else out there. It extends even to you. The key to relationships is to realize that we are all connected to each other and that every time we interact with another we are in reality interacting with ourselves. How compassionate, truthful and tolerant would your next interaction be if you were interacting with yourself? Consider this.

Great masters have always said, “Love your neighbor as yourself ” because in reality it’s true. The world is a mirror that projects back to us the love and service we project. Want more love from the world? Be love even if the world does not love you back! Dr. Albert Nuñez is a lifelong mystic and student of spirituality. He has studied and applied many of the profound practices and tenets of Catholicism, shamanism, Christianity, Buddhism, Islam, Zen, Kabbalah, paganism, mysticism, Hinduism, tantra, energy and sound healing, “Shadow Work,” kundalini yoga, many forms of meditation, and Qi Gong. Albert J. Nuñez, DVM, CVA has owned Animal Hospital of Baldwin Park and of Lake Mary since 1995 where he has practiced integrative veterinary medicine combining cutting edge surgery, internal medicine, endoscopy and laser ultrasound with acupuncture, herbal and energy medicine and nutrition for dogs, cats and exotics. He is a graduate of St. Thomas and Ross Universities and the Chi Institute of Veterinary Medicine. See ad next previous page.

A Course In Miracles What It Says

– You should look out from the perception of your own holiness to the holiness of others. – I have given everything I see all the meaning it has for me.

Animal Hospital of Baldwin Park Welcomes Two Doctors to Its Staff Dr. Allison Williams graduated from the University of Central Florida. She completed her externships in Birmingham, Alabama where she worked for a surgical specialty practice as well as a large private practice. Upon graduation she was employed at a wonderful small animal hospital and quickly became an active part of the veterinary community in Birmingham. The invaluable experience she gained during that time led to amazing client/patient relationships, friendships, new challenges and exposure to a high standard of medicine and surgery. She moved to the Baldwin Park community in 2012 and has become part of the team of the Animal Hospital at Baldwin Park. Dr. David Vilallonga graduated from The College of Veterinary Medicine at The University of Extremadura, Spain in 2001. Dr. Vilallonga worked as The Technical Director of Public Health and Assistant Inspector of Public Health for the Regional Government of Madrid. He also worked for the Regional Government of Extremadura, Spain as Veterinary Medical Officer of Animal Health and was Assistant Inspector of Public Health for the Regional Government of Extremadura in Mérida, Spain. He holds a PhD in Veterinary Medicine and is interested in ophthalmology, alternative medicine and herbal therapies. He relocated to Florida in July 2012 where he joined the Animal Hospital at Baldwin Park. He enjoys biking, riding horses, and hanging out with his wife.

– You may believe you are responsible for what you do, but not for what you think. The truth is that you are responsible for what you think, because it is only at that level you can exercise choice. What you do comes from what you think. – I am never upset for the reason I think. – Peace of mind is clearly an internal matter. It is from your peace of mind that a peaceful perception of the world arises. – My mind is preoccupied with past thoughts. – The course does not aim at teaching the meaning of love, for that is beyond what can be taught. It does aim, however, at removing the blocks to the awareness of love’s presence, which is your natural inheritance. “The course has published over 2 million copies in 20 languages.”

Animal Hospital is pleased to announce that the facility is extending its office hours and is now open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday until 9 p.m. to better serve our community. Please see Animal Hospital’s ad page 44. Velocity Magazine RELATIONSHIP | May • June 2013

For nearly a century, allopathic medicine has hailed itself as “the gold standard,” and other professions have either submitted to or been crushed by their ongoing political/scientific manipulations and their continual proclamation of intellectual and therapyeutic superiority despite 180,000-220,000 iatrogenic (medically-induced) deaths per year (500-600 iatrogenic deaths per day) and consistent documentation that most medical allopathic physicians are unable to provide accurate diagnoses due to pervasive inadequacies in medical training.

Medical iatrogenesis1 kills 492 Americans per day. “Recent estimates suggest that each year more than one million patients are injured while in the hospital and approximately 180,000 die because of these injuries. Furthermore, drug-related morbidity and mortality are common and are estimated to cost more than $136 billion a year. [ Holland EG, Degruy FV, Drug-induced disorders. Am Fam Phsyician. 1997: 56(7): 1781-8, 1791-2. ] Currently, one out of six women in this country experience some type of thyroid dysfunction. The statistics are staggering and diseases affecting the thyroid gland are growing on a daily basis. Conventional allopathic medicine has totally failed in both the clinical diagnostic and treatment pictures of thyroid disease. It is time that the American consumer wakes up and understands that you cannot treat symptoms without effectively finding the root cause(s) of the problem and then addressing the cause to relieve/ eliminate the symptoms and disease.

Controversy

In the allopathic medical paradigm, much confusion exists regarding a common but mysterious and enigmatic condition known as hypothyroidism–low thyroid function. Its converse, hyperthyroidism and Graves’ disease are well understood, easily diagnosed, and readily treated. Because the medical treatment for hyperthyroidism often leaves patients in a hypothyroidism state, affected patients thus transition from clarity (hyperthyroidism) wherein they feel ill due to the disease process into mystery (hypothyroidism) wherein they feel ill due to incomplete/inaccurate treatment. The basis for the confusion within the allopathic medical community about hypothyroidism is primarily two-fold. First, they rely on the wrong test (TSH) as the main basis for laboratory assessment. Second, they use incomplete treatment (T4 without T#) which 1 Of or relating to illness caused by medical examination or treatment

defies the known physiology of the thyroid gland, making at least two hormones rather than one. One might get the impression that perpetual confusion is at times the goal of the medical profession. We certainly see this with the management of hypertension, depression, diabetes mellitus, psoriases and other inflammatory/autoimmune conditions. For people who seek clarity, it is available.

Basic Physiology

The hypothalamus produces thyrotrophin-releasing hormone (TRH) which stimulates the anterior pituitary gland to make thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) which stimulates the thyroid gland to produce thyroxin (T4; approximately 85% of thyroid gland hormone production) and triiodothyronine (T3; approximately 15% of thyroid gland hormone production). In the periphery, the prohormone T4 is converted to active T3 by deiodinase enzymes. Stress, glucagon, and environmental toxins (halogenated phenolics, plastic monomers, flame retardants) impair production of T3 and/or increase productions of reverse T3 which is either inert or inhibitory to the action of T3. If the thyroid gland begins to fail, then TSH levels increase as the body attempts to stimulate production of thyroid hormones from a failing gland which typically fails due to autoimmune attack

(Hashimoto’s thyroiditis); hence the association of elevated blood TSH levels with primary hypothyroidism. Thyroid hormones have many different functions in the body and one of the chief effects is contributing to maintenance of the basal metabolic rate, or the speed of reactions within and the temperature of the body. An insufficiency of thyroid hormone adversely affects numerous biochemical reactions and body/organ functions, hence the myriad of clinical presentations reflecting variations in biochemical and physiologic individuality.

Clinical Presentation of Hypothyroidism

In his classic book Biochemical Individuality, Williams noted that “a wide variation in thyroid activity exists among ‘normal’ human beings.” Clearly, some patients do not make enough thyroid hormone to function optimally, or perhaps more precisely, they make enough thyroid hormone (T4) but do not efficiently convert it to the active form (T3) in the periphery. Further complicating the picture is that some patients make appropriate amounts of TSH, T4 and T3 but they make excess of inactive reverse T3 (rT3) which puts them into a physiologic state of hypothyroidism despite adequate glandular function. Patients may have one or more of the following: fatigue, depression, cold hands and feet (excluding Raynaud’s syndrome, peripheral vascular disease), dry skin, menstrual irregularities, infertility, premenstrual syndrome (PMS), uterine fibroids, excess menstrual bleeding, low basal body temperature, weak fingernails, sleep apnea and increased need for sleep (hypersomnia), slow heart rate (relative or absolute bradycardia), easy weight gain and difficult weight loss (thus predisposition to overweight and obesity), hypercholesterolemia, slow healing, decreased memory and concentration, frog-like husky voice, low libido, recurrent infections, hypertension–especially diastolic hypertension, poor digestion (due to insufficient gastric production of hydrochloric acid), delayed Achilles return (due to delayed muscle relaxation), carotenodermia, vitamin A deficiency, and gastroesophageal acid reflux, constipation, and predisposition to small intestine bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) due to slow intestinal transit. Of these manifestations, cold hands and feet, low basal body temperature, bradycardia and delayed Achilles return are the most specific. Some very competent physicians will, following proper patient evaluation, treat with thyroid hormone based on the clinical presentation of the patient and with proper consideration of and without dependency upon laboratory findings. Dr. Badanek treats these thyroid conditions along with many other ailments that affect the human body. He finds the true cause(s) of these diseases and addresses the issues which in turn changes/eliminates the symptoms. by Irlianna Samsara

So I suppose you’re going to tell me he caused the hurricane in the West Country too?” said the Prime Min ister his temper rising with every pace he took. It was infuriating to discover the reason for all these disasters and not be able to tell the public, almost worse than it be ing the government’s fault after all. “That was no hurricane,” said Fudge miserably. “Excuse me!” barked the Prime Minister, now positively stamping up and down. “Trees uprooted, roofs ripped off, lampposts bent, horrible injuries–” “It was the Death Eaters,” said Fudge. “He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named’s followers. And…we suspect giant involvement.” [ Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince ]

This is one of my favorite codes in the entire Potter series. It’s the notion that dark characters in our own society, unbeknownst to the masses, interfere with external events to wreak havoc and catastrophe. This far-out idea is the very premise of the “Men in Black” movies, and it peeks out in the opening scene in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, the sixth book of the Potter series. The scene – between the Prime Minister of Britain and Cornelius Fudge, the wizard world's Minister of Magic – never made it into the movie version, interestingly enough. With Hurricane-turned-Frankenstorm Sandy making history as the largest storm to ever hit the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic U.S., and rising worldwide awareness about HAARP, a government weather research program accused of manipulating weather, one can’t help but wonder: Was Hurricane Sandy our very own hurricane in the

West Country? Let’s take a look. HAARP, short for High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program, sends out frequency signals from a base in Alaska as part of research on the earth’s ionosphere — although critics, including former Minnesota governor Jesse Ventura, claim they also cause earthquakes, tornadoes, hurricanes and tsunamis. And that, um, they’re really not accidents. HAARP emissions reported on www.haarpstatus.com during Hurricane Sandy had a disturbing parallel to the strength of the storm: the storm’s center was concurrent with the highest HAARP emissions — actually off the charts. As soon as the storm was over, the frequencies dropped. Oddly enough, the media initially called Hurricane Sandy a “Frankenstorm” — suggesting a horror of man-made origins. CNN dropped the term once the storm and the term started gaining momentum. Could the Potter series be pointing to realities about our society that the mainstream can only accept in the guise of entertainment? Stuff that’s too far-out for the masses to accept? Of all the riveting concepts presented in the Potter series, the idea of catastrophic weather manipulation might be the most controversial – and therefore the most difficult – to accept. In the opening of Half-Blood Prince, the Prime Minister recalls the first time Fudge materialized in his office to tell him about the existence of wizards. And that he’d be popping in ev-

ery now and then to keep him abreast of the wizard world. Once he got over his shock he asked Fudge why the preceeding PM never told him about their existence, to which Fudge replies, “My dear Prime Minister, are you ever going to tell anybody?” Unlike the Prime Minister in Harry Potter, enough people in our world have indeed spoken up on far-out concepts like geoengineering. When it comes to a possible link between HAARP and Sandy, there are a number of Youtube videos worth a look. You can also see the History Channel piece on Youtube explaining HAARP and how it influences weather. Now, if there’s some part of ourselves that wants to write the whole thing off as some crackpot theory, we need only re m e m b e r how Harry and company tried to warn others about Voldemort’s return — and how they were dismissed as being crazy until it was too late. The Daily Q u i b b l e r, the alternative wizard press, reported on Lord Voldemort’s return and The Daily Prophet,

the mainstream wizard paper, kept denying it. You won’t see HAARP in the news but you’ll find lots on geoengineering via Bing (better than Google) and Youtube searches, our very own Daily Quibblers! creating our future in the now .............. We are in relationship with all things–the trees, plants, rocks, mountains, oceans, birds, creatures, every person, every being. All are interconnected and affect each other. Our thoughts and words create vibrations that ripple outward into the world. Even our smallest word or action is important. Let us become more and more conscious each day of what we are generating within and thus, emanating out. Are we uplifting and enhancing the energies of love, joy and cooperation or are we adding to negativity, separation and animosity? Let us observe ourselves and contemplate... To honor our oneness, let us speak from the place of We intending that our thoughts and words include, assist and uplift all. The shift in consciousness towards Oneness is gradually happening as we each become more fully aware of that sense of interconnection and take responsibility for who we are and what we emanate from our being. The phrase I AM THAT reminds us that as we look around to everything that we see, we can say I AM THAT affirming that everything is a part of us. We then emphatically acknowledge that truth with I AM. (Check out or review The Moses Code.) As we move from separateness to global interconnection, dimensions and timelines are shifting, blending and blurring, opening access to so much more. Our intuitive abilities are being greatly enhanced and we are feeling and tuning in to each other more easily. Have you been noticing that lately? Sometimes it is difficult to know what is ours or what belongs to others who may be experiencing a challenge, earthquake or disaster even halfway around the world. Take care of yourself. What a powerful lesson of seeing how we are all related. Psychics tell us that when a tree is cut down in the forest all the other trees go into fear and mourn. While surprising to hear of this in trees, it’s no different than being at a slaughter house and looking into the eyes of the animals in line to be killed, sensing the same feelings there.

After testing his theory on over 15,000 cancer patients, Dr. Hamer suggests that when we are in a stressful conflict that is not resolved, the emotional reflex center in the brain which corresponds to the experienced emotion (e.g., anger, frustration or grief ), will slowly break down. Each of these emotional centers is connected to a specific organ. When a center breaks down, it will start sending wrong information to the organ it controls resulting in the formation of deformed cells in the tissues–cancer cells. When the specific conflict was resolved, the cancer immediately stopped growing at a cellular level.

Why An Nrf2 Activator Is So Important to Your Health While traditional food and supplements eliminate one free radical for every one antioxidant1 molecule consumed, one Protandim a day eliminates free radicals at a rate of one million to one per second every second and reduces your oxidative stress level to that of a 20 year old in just 30 days. It takes more than the most often recognized antioxidants to reduce the aging and debilitating effects of free radicals to the human body. With countless antioxidant products lining health food store shelves today, most do not focus on the origin of aging which is genetic makeup. With ordinary antioxidants the chances of neutralizing free radical molecules are limited but when stimulating the natural production of the body’s enzymes, superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase and glutathione peroxidase, free radical molecules are neutralized and eliminated in far greater numbers. Our cells, in essence, become reset with the help of this unique combination of antioxidants. Protandim by LifeVantage characterizes five potent botanicals that give the human DNA a sign to accelerate the anti-aging enzyme production which includes SOD, catalase and glutathione. “The science is very powerful. In simple terms, Protandim showed the aging process experienced by most adults and reduced it to the level of a 1 Antioxidants are a broad group of compounds that destroy single oxygen molecules, also called free radicals, in the body, thereby protecting against oxidative damage to cells. They are essential to good health and are found naturally in a wide variety of foods and plants, including many fruits and vegetables. Many antioxidants, either singly or in combination, are also available as over-the-counter nutritional supplements in tablet or capsule form. The most commonly used antioxidants are vitamin C, vitamin E, and beta carotene.

20-year-old something that can’t be claimed by any other anti-aging product,” states David Brown, LifeVantage CEO. Researchers couldn’t identify the difference between the blood samples of a 78-year-old individual consuming Protandim from the blood sample of a 20-year old individual. Science proves that oxidative stress may be completely removed by Protandim until it reaches the oxidative stress level of a typical 20-year-old. With Protandim, cell aging has been shown to be reduced by an average of 40 percent.

Turmeric

Milk Thistle

Protandim’s very suitable blending of five botanicals–green tea, turmeric, milk thistle, ashwagandha and bacopa–creates a potent anti-aging property caused by an increase of anti-aging enzyme production. Nrf2, an antioxidant protein, found in the Protandim proprietary botanical blend, is the master gene of all survival genes in our body. These survival genes produce antioxidants that protect our bodies from oxidative stress. Once these genes are awakened they begin working the way they once did when you were young. Left unchecked, our genes will continue to be ravaged by oxidative stress, causing illness and aging. Lifevantage knew all of this several years ago but the studies at the time only permitted talking about the three anti-oxidant enzymes mentioned in paragraph 2 and not the 400+ we now talk about. Protandim promotes a healthy immune system, a healthy cardiovascular system, brain, and improved overall wellness.

You say you love me, if that’s true… You wouldn’t change the things I do. by Diane J. Ackerman

etting into a relationship is simple. Staying in a lasting relationship is not always easy. Being married for close to 50 years has been both rewarding and challenging. I have my complaints and my rewards. The trick, at least for me, is not to take my partners problems personally. By all means, be empathetic and sometimes sympathetic, but not willing to don a cloak of responsibility for someone else’s actions or unacceptable behaviors. I try to apply this rule to my children and friends as well. Although they may be few, I do have my share of idiosyncrasies, however over the years I have learned that perfection is in the eye of the beholder and what drew me to you today can be open for discussion tomorrow. Honest communication is often lost when we allow our feelings to be hurt by abusive language or vengeful behaviors. These tend to be common reactions especially with matters of the heart. But if we really love someone, how could we hurt them? Easy. If we are in a relationship we walk a thin line between love and hate every time we open our mouths. When someone close to me is out of line, I ask myself is their complaint valid or if it is a personal fear of losing control. If I need an attitude adjustment I will quietly remove myself, reflect on my actions and then make the appropriate changes or at least negotiate. This isn’t always easy because I don’t always like who I am or how I am behaving, but after many years of practice and perseverance, I found this practice created a more peaceful

coexistence. Compromising on the trivial issues is so much easier than always being right and it levels the playing field for important discussions. By eliminating mudslinging from past disagreements we can get to an amicable solution. It’s important to keep the discussion in-house avoiding the opinions of others unless they are truly unbiased. Too many cooks spoil the broth.

Diane Ackerman is author of The Gathering, a book of poems addressing life’s addictions, codependencies and obsessions. Her workbook on anger management, Shut the Duck Up, has been used with great success at The Anthony House, a homeless shelter formerly housed in Zellwood, Florida. Please see ad this page.

Most importantly, appreciate your partner’s sensitivities. Choose your words wisely and be conscious of your tone. Sarcasm rarely gets a point across without resentment. Developing a trusting relationship takes time and effort and it does not happen overnight. Mutual respect and appreciation may be the keys to its success. So why do we hurt the one we love? Simple, because we can, or at least we think we can! Before you speak, ask yourself, how would I respond to what I say?

Our Higher Self In Relationships by Rev. Mary Blocher Not long ago I found myself embroiled in an argument with one of my best friends. Things were said that erupted with angry words being spoken and hurt feelings on both sides. Afterward, tears came in the shadow of our resentment, and feelings of shock and deep despair began to take over our thoughts. It took many days to come to some sort of resolution. The experience had ripped our friendship apart and trust issues stared us in the face. Later, forgiveness did occur, however the incident left a big scar on our hearts.

ness. We must lift ourselves out of any negative emotions and reactions that are occurring and listen with compassion and openness. We must become aware of the Presence and Power of our Higher Self that is within us. It is as simple as that! The reason this works is because we are coming from a higher state of consciousness where our Higher Power communicates on a soul level with the Higher Power within our loved one. Our Higher Power operates only on love. It sees only love. God is love and we are love when we are in this higher state of consciousness.

The question for many of us is why do we so often fill ourselves with anger and bitterness toward our loved ones and build walls around ourselves? As wonderful as personal relationships are in our lives it seems they are also a major cause of our unhappiness from time to time.

Every human heart yearns for and responds to love. Our human relationships are meant to be light and joy-filled. On the spiritual level we are linked to one another. The answer to Cain’s question in Gen. 4:9 “Am I my brother’s keeper?” becomes not, “I am my brother’s keeper,” but “I am my brother because we are all one!”

There are numerous workshops, television shows and books directing us on how to improve our relationships and have harmony. These are wonderful tools that can help us on our journey to wholeness, however the real challenge for us to realize is our relationship problems can be a thin veneer which we use to cover a doubt or fear we have about ourselves.

the greatest relationship of all by Rayna Tamarin Angeleri Garcia

I gaze into the mirror just who am I looking at? Am I being looked at? Which one is the real me? Is either of me real? The time I spend looking at this reflection and wishing it were taller, shorter, richer, poorer, smiling, frowning, anything other than what I see is time I have been ignoring me. There is simply no way that I can reach into the glass and make her smile. I have to smile first. It’s the only way she responds likewise. Why, what makes me smile first? Could it be that when I see her frown I am happy? Of course not. But every time I smile, she does. So what makes me smile? Why can I conjure up a happy face but she can’t until I do? I must find a reason. I must find cause to smile first or else I will have none in return. This life is made for self-reflection. It’s our relationship with the world itself. The world experience is that of a looking glass, a mirror. Within the frame of a mirror we can see only our self and what we surround our self with. These elements of our self-expression can then be studied as though in a microscope. In a mirror the reflection is reversed but not in opposition. It’s our clone. It’s our counter part, our Twin Flame. It’s the only way to see our selves. This is God revealing God, back to God. This study is a revelation of who we are. If each of us were to begin to smile, to laugh, to find reasons unto our self, then the world would smile back in such a way. What we do unto our selves, we do unto the world, and the

world does unto us in return. If we throw a boomerang it returns as a boomerang. All comes full circle. How does a circle explore itself? It can turn like a wheel. It can orbit and explore itself, but when we turn the circle upon itself, folded into seemingly two, we reveal the Infinity. This measurement, expressed in duality, however truly remains one circle. Now the circle can gaze back at itself as though in a mirror. It’s reflected. It’s eternally connected. The greatest relationship of all is the folded circle. This is our life. As I gaze in the mirror I am eternal. What I do matters and it’s all going to come back to me as it never exited my being in the first place. Mirror, mirror, on the wall, what’s the greatest relationship of them all? It is Mine with Myself. This mysterious wisdom translates the Law of Attraction into true understanding. Two GROWING

HUMAN BEINGS Filled With LOVE

by Ramah Wagner, DC • Contributing Health Editor I have given a lot of thought to relationships over the years. Like many, I used to have the belief that I need to find wholeness before I can have a good relationship. My best friend Tonya, a blond beauty, mother of three, and Midwest

began to fall into a sort of sleep. I began altering myself to be his support, his teacher, his helpmate. And I began not to notice that my bright spirit became dull and I had lost touch with my inner wisdom. Our relationship took on a focus of consumerism. Consumerism is what is eating America alive. It is always about taking and not giving. It is the keep up with the Joneses philosophy that incites us to buy things we don’t need in order to fill a void, that with the right car or body we will be lovable. It tells us that what we are is never enough. My dear friend and bestselling author Matthew Kelly once said, “You can’t get enough of what you don’t truly need.”

chiropractor thinks differently. She laughed and told me once, “If you wait to be perfect, you will be working on yourself and remain alone your whole life.”

The consumerism philosophy of life has infected our relationships. The foundation of a consumer relationship hinges on what the partners are or aren’t getting out of the relationship. For almost a decade I have been listening to patients in deep pain who did not understand what went wrong in their relationships. Many said their partners made such manipulative statements as, “I wish someone would do that for me,” or “I have never had a massage, facial, or gym member-

My Number One Priority, my spiritual development and personal transformation, can never be placed second because of the needs of a man who is not on a similar path. Many of you know I have recently gone through a divorce. I see now that during that relationship I

ship. I wish someone would give that to me.” The giver in the relationship often has a compulsion or need to fulfill the request and many become so busy giving they forget to take care of themselves. It’s an easy trap to fall into if you are a giver. Are we all so afraid we may never be loved? Real love would have no place in this level of existence. True love is full of giving on both sides and not part of a parasitic relationship. If we are involved in such a relationship, we must break free from this vicious cycle. Like our bodies, our spiritual being is self-healing and regulating. It is perfect, complete, and whole just as it is. We are designed to be fulfilled from within, from that which is not material, from the infinite field of energy. I have observed many beautiful partnerships. They always possess two growing human beings filled with love. They are always big in generosity towards each other. They are always replete with integrity of character. They know and live by spiritual law balanced by giving and receiving. If you or a loved one is suffering we may not be your answer, but isn’t it time to try? Three Actions Toward a More Fulfilling Life

we think we can lead our daily lives If without a clear path to our destiny, we are right! If we think we can lead our daily lives having a clear understanding of the path we want to take and avoid those we do not, we are also right!

Philosophical opinions are age-old processes that have been documented throughout human history. Somehow though, not many of them agree on many points important to us as humans. We can always try something else if what we are doing or thinking is not working for us. The hard thing is deciding where or which way to turn in such moments. We are free to accept the spiritual guidance of our choice. When we follow our path we see the results of the course we have taken. If it isn’t working well enough for us, we can decide to improve, keep going with it, or even change it.

A little saying I have always liked is, “Keep your eye upon the donut and not upon the

So why do we care so much about what we do, where we go and what is really in it for us? Perhaps we should ask ourselves this question and help identify the reason for our own selves. No one can really decide for us now, can they? If we truly believe in nothing, nothing is already something, is it not? If we believe in too much, then we may or may not be over-thinking the question! I have always been a fan of keeping things simple. So here is my take

on everyone’s circumstances here in our world, the only way, I believe, that we can improve our lives or help improve anyone else’s for that matter. Capture these three actions and make your life a lot simpler and more fullfilling:

Learn! Teach! Have Fun! Is it that easy? Yes! It really is that easy. Learn from everything you do. Teach others what you have learned. And have fun in everything you do. Whatever time you spend doing or thinking in any other way is a waste of your precious time here. This is why you are here and it creates a path that will lead to a happier life. Rev. by Praji Sakata As we watch the ebb and flow of the ocean’s tide under the direction of the moon, how often do we pause to consider this wellknown phenomenon as a mirror of our own soul’s tide? Coming into this lifetime, one way our souls find expression is by projecting their lineage and kundalini energy through the chakric system. Where on the chakric tree of light our soul chooses to align itself at a particular time has much to do with the energy we project outward. Let’s look at chakras. We readily associate chakras with colors and we know color is really sound so each chakra is truly vibrating tonalities of color and light, each with its own patterns and resonant forms of expression. For example, when a soul is aligning itself to be compatible to spirituality and in its spiritual vision, it will mainly focus on and project itself through the brow or Ajna chakra. Such a person’s experiences would be quite different than the soul who is focusing on the root (Muladhara) chakra which functions more

When souls are educated to recognize the tide of universal consciousness and that it flows in and flows out of placement within the energetic body, then a different experience is created for our relationships. We are able to accept where we and others are existing in the chakric tree. We also will realize that our soul’s tide will not stay in one place. It will fluctuate. The Bigger Picture? ........................ ........................ ........................ ........................ ........................ ........................ ........................ ........................ ........................ ........................ ........................ ........................ ........................ ........................

Often we do not see the whole picture. When we desire something, it may not come in the form that we expect. Twenty-four years of shoveling snow off cars, a driveway (and the house roof!) in New York was enough. Now that my husband and I were both retired it was time to think about where we would live during our senior years. We began to look on the Internet for home sales in Florida. We thought about putting our house on the real estate market.

by Ojela Frank

A few months later, I was relaxing on a couch in the TV room. I began to smell something burning. As I turned to look at the kitchen I noticed some smoke. The dishwasher was smoking. When I looked underneath it I saw fire! OMG!!! I grabbed two fire extinguishers which did not work and I called 911. Panic began to set in. I had seen what fire could do to a home. As an emergency medical technician I witnessed fire completely engulf a home in flames that had started with no more than an electric frying pan. So here I was having my own house fire experience! Eugene, the dogs and I got out safely. The local firehouse was only three blocks away. It was a Friday night so there was a large group of firefighters socializing and relaxing together. Fire engine trucks arrived in only five minutes. Our house did not burn up in flames. The kitchen was flooded with water. The dishwasher was ripped out from the wall. We needed to replace everything

in the kitchen including the flooring. Thank goodness we had home owner’s insurance. We got a brand new kitchen so it was easier to sell our old home. No, I would not want to go through that again, but we got more money for our house sale because of it. The adage, “You get what you ask for” comes in many expressions. Sometimes it is exactly what we expect while other times the results can be entirely different.

The human brain is a transmitter and a receiver of frequencies. We are continuously sending and receiving thoughts. Energy follows thought so in a way thoughts are energy. What do we do with our thoughts? Are they positive or negative? Are they nurturing thoughts with the desire to make a situation better? We are co-creators. In our personal universe, we attract our daily experiences. Higher thinking = higher thoughts. Higher thoughts = higher energy. Higher energy = a more peaceful consciousness = bliss. Have gratitude for another day and make the best of it. Live, embrace life and be happy. All of us will benefit. Velocity Magazine RELATIONSHIP | May • June 2013

and compassion. It makes it easier to enjoy each person. Creating and strengthening connections between our souls, it tells friends and family that we love them and strangers that we are willing to love them. More than that, this reminder of the divine nature of each of us affirms the respect and joy we can find with each other, if we can be willing and open hearted. “Seeing God in every face” assumes a relationship of love and respect with Creator. It is a core shamanic principle that every living being is a divine soul – that each of us carries the essence of Creator. We are all rays of a brilliant cosmic Sun – a Source of light, warmth, and power. To create, as all artists know, is to expand your essence into a seemingly separate entity. However, there truly is no separation, so seeing God in every face is not a metaphor – it is a realization of the Oneness of all of us, the knowing that each of us is the essence of God. With that foremost in my mind, relationships with other beings are a little kinder, a little more joyful.

namaste

“Namaste” is one of the most beautiful words I have ever heard – the loveliest and most truthful word used in meeting and parting between friends or strangers. It can be roughly translated as “The Divine Being that is me recognizes and honors the Divine Being that is you.” What better ground is there to build a relationship upon? What better basis for interacting with another being? When I say, “Namaste” to another person, I remember Mother Teresa’s admonition to see God in every face. In greeting or parting with another person by saying “Namaste,” I remind myself of the truth of both of our souls – the truth that both of us are human manifestations of Love, human manifestations of Light. This reminder makes it easier to treat the people in my life with kindness

The flip side of this knowing is that my relationship with Creator becomes a little easier. Suddenly God is not remote. Suddenly God is accessible. Suddenly God speaks directly to me through the love of my daughter, the support of my husband, the smile of the person I walk past in the grocery store. God is suddenly only a handshake, a hug, a smile away. No longer an impersonal Source, Creator reaches out to me through another person and, before I know it, reaches out to me in the silence of my morning prayers. As I recognize God in a student or client’s face, I recognize God in my own heart. The lack of separation between me and God nourishes the lack of separation between me and others and vice versa. And so, to you, I say, from my heart, “Namaste.” Rev. Sunemaura O’Brien is a spiritual healer and teacher dedicated to supporting individuals in opening doors to authenticity and joy. You Are Your Best Friend by Ruby Wood

What a gift to be shown a way to get in touch with my best friend, the peaceful love that has always been inside of me. Sometimes that love is so pervasive, I am compelled to put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard!) and try to express the inexpressible. This human form with its many emotions and feelings, is a work of art in progress, unfolding its secrets to me. But–to listen for the secrets, I must be silent. And when I’m finally silent, and intent on listening, I hear first the annoying drumbeat of the loud, controlling voice. That voice that is constantly telling me what to do, how to do it, when to do it. Then, with patience, I sense another soft, delicate voice. Its whisperings come from my heart, not my mind. It comes not in words, not in ideas, but through Feeling. In the silence, in the present, my wholeness is revealed. “Be in awe of this existence. Be in awe of this breath. Be in awe of this life, instead of the long list of everything that is wrong in your life… Always, wherever you go, your best friend comes along–in good times and bad times till the very end.
