Read 2 Review First, I would like to wish everyone a very happy new year. 2013. I am looking forward to this year so much. Not only with my sites, but also in my personal life as I head to New York in April for the biggest wrestling event of the year Wrestlemania with my best buddy Lisa. To say I am already excited is an understatement!! We have much planned for Read 2 Review this year. The Kindle-ling Read-A-Thon 2013 January 17th – 24th For all information please check out Read 2 Review HERE Welcome to Read 2 Review’s first Read-A-Thon of 2013. We hope you had a fantastic holiday and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! So show of hands how many of us got eReader’s for Christmas? I have the new Kindle Paperwhite and to say I love it is a very big understatement. I am already on my 3rd book on it! It’s so easy to read on it but I will always love the feel and smell of a book. However with the kindle looking pretty (I have a skin (sticker) on it now) next to me it sparked me to think of the first 2013 Read-A-Thon. It doesn’t matter if you read print or on an eReader of any description (I know we all probably have different ones) you can take part in the Read-A-Thon. There is only 1 requirement and that is you read one of the books we have set for the Read-A-Thon, these books will all be in the required eBook format for your device.

Rusty loves doughnuts, but it seems like his parents won’t ever let him have a doughnut! One day he wishes for a million doughnuts, and when that wish comes true, Rusty learns that maybe there is too much of a good thing. Excerpt: “Doughnuts! How I love them!” Rusty stared at the display of tasty, scrumptious doughnuts on the tray inside the glass case at the bakery. The longer he looked at those doughnuts, the more his stomach grumbled for their sweet and yummy taste. His mouth watered as he took in the sight of so many ooey-gooey sweet treats! The delicious round cake doughnuts with pink icing and colorful sprinkles on top... The long chocolate bar doughnuts... The round glazed doughnuts... And the white powdered doughnuts that always left a powdery line on his
mouth every time he bit into them. All of those doughnuts looked so good to eat! Rusty looked up at his mother. “Can I have a doughnut, Mom? Please?” Mother looked at Rusty and shook her head. “Doughnuts are not good for you,” she answered. “But I love doughnuts!” Rusty whined. “And you never let me eat them!” “Maybe some other time,” Mother said. She turned back around to look at the baker. Rusty frowned as he listened to his mother order four bran muffins to take home for breakfast. He scowled. Bran muffins? Yuck! Doughnuts were better than bran muffins!

Read 2 Review As the boat began to turn, it jerked portside. Cali stumbled, and I caught her. She felt good in my arms, until she wrenched herself away from me. Her blue eyes clouded with fury. She backed away to stand near the rigging. When she held her hand palm out, I watched a ball of fire appear, spinning like a cyclone. I crept toward her and reached out one hand. “Cali, what are you doing?” She stepped farther from me, her hand dangerously close to the main mast. “You will take me to Faewood, or I will incinerate this entire ship.” Some of my crew saw what was happening and began to run toward her. I threw up my hand to stop them. “Have you gone mad? What do you think you’ll do if the ship burns down? Swim? In case you didn’t notice, we’re a long way from shore.” “I don’t care anymore. I’ll go down same as you.” I stared at her, confused by my own emotions more than anything. On one hand, I was furious that she’d put me in this situation, but on the other, she seemed desperate. If the sea didn’t drown her, then hopelessness would. I growled and turned to where Shyler stood frozen by the wheel. He and some of the others had drawn their weapons. “Return to our course,” I shouted to Shyler. “Head for Faewood.” “Aye, Cap’n.” Cali lowered her hand. Bob sprang forward, but I caught his shirt. “Leave her be. I’ll escort her to my cabin. We’ll

Read 2 Review Breathing silently through my mouth, I scanned the dark surroundings. Rain sheeting along the trees and ground reflected a miniscule amount of moonlight edging its way in from breaks in the clouds. I strained my eyes and ears for any sign of my hunter. Unbidden memories came as I tried to concentrate on my surroundings. I thought of Caliphany, how innocent we had both been eighty years ago, riding into the forest. Reclining on a blanket, I recited poetry, my head in her lap, while she braided small sections of my hair. I remembered my father’s face, the disappointment in his eyes when Caliphany’s father dismissed me from his employ because of our relationship. His voice in my head chilled me even deeper than the rain. Your mother and I work tirelessly to give you the best of everything, and this is how you repay us? And there was Serenya—the night I met her, that haunting voice as she sang, how it had warmed me to the core, filling holes in my heart I never knew were there. What would I do if I was forced to live without her? I bit down on my tongue to stay alert and to lock the memories away. What was that? A flutter to my right. Circling through the trees. A soft thud of something landing. Deliberate steps squished through the muddy leaves. It was tiptoeing—each wet, noisy step driving my heart into near-frenzy. Only one of them, I was sure. I wondered if the other was hunting Zeph, and which one it could be. What if he had to make the choice I could not? He was one of my best scouts. I had to trust him to handle the situation.
Still in concealment, every muscle in my body tensed. Swiveling my torso in the saddle, I silently readied my bow and an arrow. My senses tuned outward, gauging the distance. I imagined the creature closing in, drool stringing down its jaw from the scent of elf and horse flesh. It smells me—of course it does. Come on, just a little farther. I drew back the string. My fingers buzzed, wanting to fire, but I willed them to remain steady. Wait for it. The creature inched forward. It knew exactly where I was, so there was no use hiding anymore. I couldn’t tell whether it was Serenya or not, but I dropped concealment and decided to try reason first. Still holding my bow as steadily as possible, I spoke in a low, soothing voice. “Serenya, if that is you, listen to me. I know you don’t want to hurt me. If you’ll just come with me now, I’ll do all I can to help you. It doesn’t have to be this way.” A raspy chuckle was the only reply. Hollow breaths met my ears between beats of raindrops on my hood. My eyes strained to see something, anything, until finally, a dark outline appeared against the shine of the rain-soaked ground. A whiff of sulfur burned my nostrils, triggering me to release the bowstring. But the creature flew upward and out of sight at the last second. The arrow missed its mark.

I loved the story and the believability of the characters. Reading it made me adapt the characters accents and I often found myself reading it to myself. The words and the way they were put together had a special lilt to them and very intoxicating.

About Sabrina by Leanne Hererra: “Sabrina was destined to be sick even before she was born. She began having strokes when her mother was only 20 weeks pregnant. When she was born her family was very happy with their miracle baby but worried because the doctors could not understand what happened. It was not until several tests were taken and a geneticist was involved that it was discovered that she had not one but two rare disorders. She has MTHFR which is a gene mutation that can and usually does affect several parts of her body and there are 19 known versions of it. Very few infants are diagnosed with it. She also has lipo protien alpha deficiency that makes medicine distribution and metabolism for her very difficult. She has had two brain surgeries to install a shunt for her hydrocephalus. Sabrina visits with therapists daily to help her use her muscles as she suffers from severe cerebral palsy. She is also blind.

I have been traipsing around the depths of my imagination for as long as I can remember and began writing stories back when I was twelve. I love to read just about anything, from technical manuals to self-help, sci-fi to romance. I do avoid anything overly violent or graphic and have never been a fan of horror. I have a good memory and vivid imagination so I avoid reading or watching things I don't want stored in my mind.

Amethyst Eyes was my first published novel. It is about a 15-year-old boy who has to leave his life behind to go live with his father after losing his mother in a tragic accident. Although the setting becomes sci-fi (since his father is not from Earth and Tommy has to live on his father’s spaceship), the story is more about growth and human interaction. There is a lot of adventure and a few twists to keep the readers busy throughout the book. Over the years I have worked as a nurse, a school teacher, a martial arts instructor, baseball, figure-skating and gymnastics coach as well as an artist, selling my paintings in an art gallery. I have been part of an orchestra, flown planes and gone on wilderness hikes. I am an officer in the Canadian Forces, and though I have taught on different military bases, for now I work primarily with cadets. Writing full time is my next goal. Never having been much of a city girl, I live with the youngest of my four children, my husband Jean-Pierre, and Wookie, our Cardigan Corgi, in the Laurentian Mountains of Quebec. What a Reviewer Looks for When Accepting a Book As a children’s book reviewer, I get many email requests for a book review. There are basically four types of requests. At my review site is a page called Review Requests-Submission Guidelines. Every book review site will have something similar. This page will tell you everything the reviewer needs to know about your book and how to request the review. This is a must read for anyone serious about getting their book reviewed. The four types are: 1. THE BULK E-MAIL REQUEST This is a short email with a book title and a short summary. Then the reviewer is asked to contact the sender if they want to review the book. This is not addressed to anyone, though it appears the email was sent to only one reviewer, often you can find that many others received blind copies. Rarely, do I reply to these emails. I don’t have time for someone who cannot take time for themselves. 2. THE INDEPENDENT REQUEST This person has gone to the website. Whether or not they read the submission guidelines is anyone’s guess. They tend to send little more information about their book than the
Bulk e-Mailer, the only difference is the contact was made through the reviewer’s contact me page. 3. THE PARTIAL REQUEST Like the independent request, the person has gone to the reviewer’s website, but they have read the submission guidelines. I know this because they offer some of the information required, but not all of it. Many will say the information requested can be found in the book or their website. This is an excuse for not offering all the requested information. Maybe they figure I should go to their website or wait for the book for the information. Problem is, they have no idea why that reviewer may need the information. What they also gravely misunderstand is who has the responsibility to provide the needed information. It is not the reviewer. 4. THE CORRECT REQUEST This is the request that all reviewers wish they received all the time. This is the request that came from the requester after reading the submission guidelines and following the exact instructions. That may be as simple as requesting through an email address with title and

The best way to get a review from the reviewer and site you want is to follow the submission guidelines. While I do not believe that any reviewer would deliberately tank a review out of frustration or anger, why take any chance when all it takes is a little time to get it correct.

Needless to say, I’ve suffered through my share of rejections, but instead of giving up, they made me more determined to succeed. I’ve joined several writing groups and forums and have made many online friends, people who have been supportive and encouraging throughout this journey. By nature, writing is a lonely hobby, so it helps to have people with whom you can share with and do a little brainstorming. Except when the characters start talking to me. LOL That’s when I can immerse myself in the tale and write for hours on end, crafting their story their way. With feedback received, I discovered where my writing lacked substance, studied those areas, kept writing, revising and submitting. I’ve entered contests and pitches, even won a couple, but publication still evaded me…until July, 2011, when perseverance paid off. It wasn’t a call that came, per se, but an email. I’d been waiting on the edits/revisions to come in and wasn’t expecting to see any cover art, especially at 11:30 pm on a Sunday night. My surprise was immediate and vocal. My son came running, alarmed, but smiled when he saw the cover. Everything had happened so fast! On July 17th, 2011, I subbed my manuscript to Evernight, on the 18th I received the contract, signed and returned it on the 20th and on the 25th, received the cover. No matter how you look at it, this team is super efficient. Marketing and promotion commenced with the release of the covers and my debut novel, Zakia and the Cowboy, was released on October 5th. It became a Featured Title at All Romance Ebooks and appeared on two of their bestseller lists…cowboy/western and mystery/suspense. Zakia and the Cowboy also won December’s Book of the Month at The To Be Read Pile in 2011. Quite an honor for a newbie. I now have 14 titles available in ebook form and Zakia is available in print as is Hawk’s Woman, my contribution to the Virgins Behaving Badly anthology with Evernight. “OMG! This book was so damn good! This has become my favourite book of the year and is definitely in my all time top 10 favourite books of all-time. And the main reason for that I can narrow down to two words: Hunter Zaccadelli, easily one of my all-time favourite male characters, now if only he wasn't a fictional character. I've never really been a fan of contemporary romance books, but when I was sent the invite to take part in this blog tour, the synopsis sounded good so I thought why not, I did not expect to be blown away by the brilliance of this novel and the incredible writing. I was captivated from the very first page, when Taylor opens the front door and finds Hunter waiting on the other side and after some remarks he makes, he gets punched for it, and so begins one of the funniest and romantic books that I've read in a long while.
I've never loved a bad boy more, or wanted some up close and personal time of my own, the song he writes for Taylor is so sweet and he cooks, is in fact a great cook and will make whatever Taylor wants, and there is a definite heart of gold under the tattooed facade. I just wish that there will be a sequel, or this book from Hunter's pov, o.k just really anything that involves Hunter, I'm totally besotted. I can't put into words how much I adore this book, a great big thanks to the author Chelsea for writing this piece of brilliance, I strongly recommend that you all check this out, you won't be sorry! I give this a huge 5/5�
The chemistry between these two is explosive, you can tell how much Hunter grows to care for Taylor from the sexual innuendos and how much he torments her, it's like going back to kindergarten when you have that boy who is a bully and calls you names but secretly he really likes you. But they both hide secrets which have affected the people that they are today, both sad, and especially in Hunter's case tragic. The humour in this is so good, many a times I'd be laughing out loud at something in the book and I'd receive quite a few funny looks, especially the library scene and the emails between Hunter and Taylor.

Outside, an exterminating crew is draping a blue termite tent over the roof. Inside, the film crew in Jay’s head is executing his instructions. “Best crew I ever had, Dave, Jay says. “I think it and they do it.” The script appears in flaming letters in his mind. “Tight TWO SHOT of Braffner and Kessel.” The answer comes back: (“tight two shot, boss.”) “Full crew, Dave,” Jay says. “Showed up in my head one morning. Young, eager to learn. No overtime, no meal penalties because they don’t eat. No muttering behind my back. Best of all, no teamsters…” Jay calls: “Let the tent billow.” (“tent’s billowing boss.”) “Remember how I tried to sell you this shot on Autocop, Dave?” he asks. Kessel shakes his head. Jay pulls a pair of latex gloves over his thick wrists. ”The script had a boring murder on a suburban street. Let’s put blue termite tent over the house, I said. The murderer is disguised in an exterminator’s uniform. He ties the victim up and leaves him to die when they turn on the gas. Remember, Dave?”
Kessel’s bloodshot eyes bulge above the black gaffer tape covering his nose and mouth. “You blew me off, Dave,” Jay says. “Artsy fartsy, you said. Three months later the exact same scene showed up in another episode with Lester Tarsis’s name on it…” Kessel writhes and struggles with muffled pleas. “That’s it Dave, beg for your life,” Jay says. “That’ll play great.” He twists Kessel’s head toward the window where the blue tent is settling gently like a giant bed spread. “Now we cut to this morning. I’m trying to think of a cool, cinematic way to kill you. I see the termite truck in front of your house and I realize the movie gods are sending me a message. So I get a uniform and disguise myself as an exterminator.” Kessel tries to elbow his way free, but Jay puts him in a headlock. “Bayside High Wrestling, Dave. City champs…” He squeezes so hard Kessel’s cheekbones crack. “Stop fighting and I’ll let go.” Kessel gets very still. Jay rips the tape off his mouth and he explodes in gulping breaths. “For Chrissake, Jay, that was 1995.” “Seems like yesterday to me,” Jay said. “What did I do so bad to you?” “You stole my ideas and gave them to Lester Tarsis.” Kessel sobs. “I didn’t have any ideas of my own. “If you did, Hollywood would be a ghost town,” Jay says. “You’re dying because you screwed me.” “Lester made me do it, Jay. He’s the one you should be after.” “Lester’s on my list, too, Dave.” Jay reaches onto the wine rack for a bottle of Armagnac and holds the label up to the light. “Chateau de Laubade, 1922. My mother was born in 1922. It took me eight years in analysis to uncover my primal memories of seeing her screwing somebody while my dad was at Yonkers Raceway. By then she was dead and I couldn’t ask her if the guy was my Uncle Willie. See, I thought it was him because I had an olfactory sense memory of his cheap cigars that came up whenever I had sex. It was giving me serious performance issues…” Kessel blubbers. “Lester had us at each other’s throats, Jay. ” Jay pops the cork. “The TV money kept pouring in, Dave. Lester bought income properties in the Valley. I pissed mine away on coke and bimbos. You assembled the most famous collection of vintage Armagnac in the world. Made the cover of Gourmet Magazine…” Kessel dribbles green bile out of the corner of his mouth. “Gimme a break, Jay…” “This is film noir, Dave, no happy endings.” Jay grabs Kessel by the back of the neck and jams the bottle down his throat. “Let’s drink a last toast to you and your fabulous collection.” Kessel gags and sputters: “No Jay!”
Jay lifts Kessel by the seat of his pants and the back of his collar and rams him into the rack. Bottles tumble, bouncing off his head. “Take Two, Dave,” Jay says. He takes a crow hop and rams him into the rack again. Kessel goes limp. Jay eases him down to the floor, giving terse commands to the crew. “PAN DOWN and PUSH IN to a TIGHT SHOT as Jay takes the tape off Kessel’s wrists and ankles…” (“Panning…”) “TIGHT ON JAY as he pours the rest of the booze over Kessel to make it look like a drunken accident…” (“Tight on Jay.”) Jay closes the wine cellar door and walks quickly down the hall. “See how the sun shines through the tarp,” he says. “Has anyone ever made a shot through the tent of a fumigated house?” (“no one but you boss”) Jay slips through the back door and scrambles out from under the tent. Two exterminators in blue uniforms are standing by the pool “Thought I heard a dog barking in the house,” Jay says. “Must have been next door.” From the beach he watches as they wind thick ropes around the tent and turn on the gas. The Serial Killer’s Daughter Review by Jeanette Serial Killer’s Daughter by Haywood Gould is an interesting mystery and action adventure novel set in modern North America. The novel follows two college students, Peter and Hannah, who are being chased by murderers while at the same time the police suspect Peter and Hannah of drug running and murder. What I liked best is that this book is unique in both set-up and scope and has a lot of action. The plot is fast-paced, and Gould does a great job hiding the killer. I didn’t know who the culprit was until the chapter before the reveal. There was one element of the story that I didn’t like, which is purely personal on my part. Hannah is introduced into the novel when she trades sex for help in an English class which I found hard to believe. Moments like this, as well as the emotional distance between Peter and Hannah, make the book feel geared more toward a male audience. This book is a hard one for me to rate by a standard rating system. On a personal level, I would give it a 3, but this is based on my own subjective preferences. Rather than a memoir, her novel evolved into a fictional journey which brought about the resolution she needed to find. When many readers hear the word Fantasy or Speculative Fiction, they often assume the book will be rife with unbelievable and fantastical concepts and creatures. And this may be so. But have you ever considered the amount of philosophical thought, religion-based ideas and generally spiritual concepting that goes into some of the books considered Fantasy? Many authors begin with a spiritual idea from one or more world religion or philosophy and blend the ideas together in the creation of their stories, creatures, etc. Indeed, it is often the want of spreading their theology; authors will utilize the technique of the Fantasy story to reach an audience. Readers sometimes seem more approachable in a “Fantasy” setting than if the theology was presented in an essay. If readers of Speculative Fiction think back on the books they’ve consumed over the past many years, they may begin to see the pattern.
