Teaching/classes
The purpose of the summer school is for you to have an amazing, fun and exciting summer holiday, while being challenged personally and academically. The time will fly! Academic classes are mainly taught in English using English materials. In Danish, we will focus on language, culture and society. Classes are mainly project-‐oriented and you will work individually or in groups on presentations of various themes. When you register, you must choose between Danish or a science class. All participants will have English classes. In order to provide classes suitable to your level, you must also give yourself a grade in subjects based on interest and level. In the comments-‐box, you may explain what you find interesting about the subject. You may also write comments if you have any academic challenges. Excursions During the week we will go on various excursions -‐ by bus or bike -‐ to the beach, out in the nature, to Løgstør for shopping or similar. The big excursion/trip on Thursdays will go to Aalborg, Viborg, Aarhus or Skagen, where we will visit exciting tourist attractions. We are away for the entire afternoon and we will dine on the trip. The trip will finish at sunset with an evening swim.
What will you gain from a summer school experience? Summer school is all about community, academics and new experiences. We believe that you will learn more when you have chosen your own classes and when you are together with other learners who have shared interests. You will gain a lot of knowledge from the academic classes in which you will also meet other young people from different cultures – together you will try what it is like to be in an international educational environment. Maybe you will experience that you will learn the most from the profile subjects because these will strengthen your ability to learn new things and think creatively – these experiences will be useful in your future academic endeavours. Summer school will strengthen your social competences and open your mind to others. You will be more independent and your English skills will improve in a short period of time, as all communication will be in English during your stay -‐ All this while you are making new friends from all over the world.
Be a host-‐family for an AFS exchange student All AFS exchange students will, during the 4-‐week programme, spend a long weekend with a Danish family. This is an opportunity for you to show an international learner what Denmark and your local area have to offer. You may find a new friend for life, whom you can visit in the future.
