WELCOME FROM THE DIRECTOR OF SUMMER STUDY Summertime is a wonderful opportunity for your child to try something new or to pursue an interest in depth with the return of our popular academic courses, talent development classes, athletic sports camps and day and trip camps. I am pleased to again offer exceptional summer programming with new elementary talent development classes, enhanced day camp activities and a new Counselor-in-Training (CIT) program that are sure-to-be favorites. This summer, two-week talent development sessions are extended to match eight weeks of day camp. Students can now choose a six-week course to target a specific academic area, three-week high school level introduction courses for academic study and fine arts or a combination of two-week selections that will now run all eight weeks of programming. It is an exciting year for 2013 Summer Programs at Ranney School as previously offered non-credit six-week high school humanities, math and science courses have been restructured to better fit busy family schedules and will now be offered within a three-week timeframe from 9:00 a.m. â&#x20AC;&#x201C; 1:00 p.m. All for-credit six-week high school math classes will continue as 120 hour six-week courses. As an added value, the cost for all materials and lunch will now be included in the tuition for high school three-week introduction courses and six-week for-credit math courses. Six-week elementary reading and mathematics courses have expanded to include a seventh and eighth grade course and all grades have been redesigned as four, five or six-week options to give families greater flexibility. With the expansion to an eight-week elementary program for two-week talent development classes, students in grades 1-8 will now be able to fit into their summer schedules dedicated time for reading, writing and mathematics study over four, five or six weeks and opportunities to pursue the arts, STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) related topics and day and sports camps as well. Combining morning classes and afternoon camp makes for a full summer experience of learning and fun-filled days. Talent development visual arts offerings, STEM topics and classes for gifted and talented students are always popular as are the orchestra class in the Ranney School Music Conservatory and drama and theater classes in Ranney School Performing Arts Academy. With our continued expansion for STEM study, a new elementary Ranney School STEM Institute has been designed to advance talent development in areas of science, technology, engineering and math for Pre-K â&#x20AC;&#x201C; eighth grade students. Additional Interactive Preschool Adventures for four- and fiveyear-old children also include STEM-focused learning for our youngest students and are sure to be as popular as returning one-week programs. WELCOME FROM THE DIRECTOR OF SUMMER CAMP Welcome to 2013 Summer Camp Programs at Ranney School! Our exceptional camp-accredited summer programs have been a favorite of many families over the years, and we continue to offer an innovative and exciting summer camp program for children ages 3 to 13. Whether it is our popular summer day or sports camps (for children up to age 18 for swimming only) or our rewarding trip camp program, Ranney provides the best summer experience for all campers! Our reputation for providing an outstanding summer program is second to none. Ranney has built its reputation through hundreds and hundreds of satisfied families for more than 30 years. The true sign of a successful camp is the look on our campersâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; faces at the end of the day; these smiles brighten each and every day! This year we are excited to offer a Counselor-in-Training (CIT) program for 14-year-olds with the flexibility of four to eight weeks of programming. This full-day CIT program will include special camp and trip activities for this age group, as well as CPR training and opportunities to assist staff with specific camp duties. The CIT program will also include an emphasis on developing leadership skills with themed work projects where accountability, collaboration, compassion, respect, responsibility and sportsmanship are behaviors that are discussed and practiced in camp interactions with children, peers and adults. A Leadership Journal will also emphasize organization and time-management skills as essential areas for skill building. Spaces will be limited so I encourage you to sign up early for this sure-to-be-popular program. Our full-day Day Camp is both licensed by the state of NJ and accredited by the American Camp Association. The American Camp Associationâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Standards cover all aspects of summer camp operations including staffing, safety, facilities, trips, sport activities, cafeteria and pool operation. Every day, Ranney campers enjoy an assortment of highly engaging supervised activities and learning experiences. At Ranney, children are encouraged to explore a wide range of interests in an environment that is warm, stimulating and challenging. Campers spend the day in assigned groups experiencing physical fitness challenges, specialized programming in science, nature, arts and crafts, sports, music and drama among other fun activities. Each group is organized by age for additional swim and sports instruction, electives and weekly themed activities, including field and carnival days, climbing wall activities, talent shows, capture-the-flag games, sport challenges, professional entertainers and bowling. Campers will have a structured schedule on a regular basis that is designed to provide individualized instruction as well as optimum social interaction and our low staff/camper ratio provides those exceptional learning and fun experiences. Each morning at 9:00 a.m., the Ranney School campus is brightened by the excitement and anticipation of hundreds of summer campers. Some campers are in their first summer at Ranney, and others are in their fifth or sixth. All have come to Summer Programs at Ranney School for the best experience of their lives. The great variety of programs offered is sure to provide memories to last a lifetime. Every day, Ranney campers enjoy an endless assortment of supervised activities and learning experiences. In addition to our regularly scheduled camp activities, campers are encouraged to take part in our elective program, giving them an opportunity to choose from an even bigger list of extra activities. Examples include mini-sports clinics, crafts, camp newspaper, science and rocketry, digital photography and dance. Campers spend the day in assigned groups: each group is organized by age and will normally number 15 campers. These groups are supervised at all times by our staff of capable and experienced counselors and specialist instructors. Where possible, we will be happy to accommodate your requests for group assignments, including placing friends or siblings together. Please indicate any such requests on the application form. The camp day begins at 9:00 a.m. and ends at 4:00 p.m., and extended day supervision is available upon request. There are also options for combining academic and talent development classes in the morning and day camp in the afternoon. Lunch is provided for campers each day in our air-conditioned Dining Hall. Lunches will include a hot or cold entrée, vegetable, dessert and milk, juice or water. Alternate menus can be provided for children with special dietary needs. COUNSELOR-IN-TRAINING PROGRAM (CIT) Age 14 Monday – Friday 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. June 24 – August 16 Cost: $100 Per Week This year we are excited to offer a Counselor-in-Training (CIT) program for 14-year-olds with the flexibility of four to eight weeks of programming. TRIP CAMPS Ages 10 – 13 Monday – Friday 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. June 24 – August 16 Optional two-eight weeks • • • • • •

Campers must be enrolled in a Trip Camp program to go on any trip. Campers may only participate in those trips that occur during the session in which they are enrolled. Some trips will require parent pick-up at camp after 4:00 p.m. Summer Programs at Ranney School reserves the right to change or cancel any trip. The Trip Camp schedule will be published in early May. Trip Camp may not be combined with any academic programs.

ONE-TRIP CAMP Ages 10 – 13 Our One-Trip Camp program is open to all 10- to 13-year-old campers. Campers will enjoy all regular camp activities while on campus, plus additional off-campus trip opportunities. One-Trip campers will attend one major trip per week. Trips may include a Yankees game, a Mets game, a Lakewood BlueClaws game and visits to Blackbeard’s Cave, Fun Time America and other fun-filled adventures. Campers will also take weekly off-campus trips to ice skate, roller skate, go to the beach or play miniature golf. An experienced, trained, adult staff member will direct the One-Trip Camp. If you would like your child to participate, please check the appropriate box on the registration form.

TWO-TRIP CAMP Ages 10 – 13 Our Two-Trip Camp program is open to all 10- to 13-year-old campers. Campers will enjoy all of our regular camp activities while on campus, along with a variety of off-campus trips. The Two-Trip Camp program will include two major off-campus trips each week, along with weekly trips to the beach, bowling alley and miniature golf courses. The schedule may include trips to a Mets game, a Yankees game, Lakewood BlueClaws game, a fishing trip, Six Flags Great Adventure, Keansburg Amusement Park, Blackbeard’s Cave, Water Works and Hurricane Harbor. The Two-Trip Camp program will be supervised by a staff of experienced and trained adults. If interested, please check the appropriate box on the registration form.

BASKETBALL // BOYS’ LACROSSE FENCING // GOLF // SOCCER SWIMMING // TENNIS The key to success for any athlete is to have a solid foundation in his or her sport. The goal of our camp is simple: to teach children the fundamentals of their chosen sport. Before young players can progress, they must learn and execute the proper basic skills. As a player becomes more experienced, these skills must be enhanced and practiced daily. The entire foundation of sound play is the quick execution of the fundamentals. Our Sports Camps will be conducted in an atmosphere that is fun, exciting, disciplined and directed toward definite goals. Our staff will use a variety of coaching techniques to motivate and teach such valuable life skills as dedication, responsibility and sportsmanship. All of our camps will include daily drill work, technique, games, contests, lectures and other challenging, fun-filled activities. NOTE: Transportation will be provided for all Sports Camps (with the exception of Swim Camp – see below) if a student is registered for a Ranney camp session as well. Morning transportation will be provided for our Swim Camp if a camper is also enrolled in a Ranney camp session, but parents must pick up their children from Swim Camp. Campers may participate in our extended day program between conclusion of summer camp and start of Swim Camp.

BOYS’ LACROSSE Ages 9 – 13 Monday – Friday 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. June 24 – 28 Cost: $190 (Add a half day of Ranney Day Camp for an additional $250) Director: Joseph Tweed, Ranney School Head Boys’ Lacrosse Coach The goal of our Lacrosse Camp is to teach players the fundamentals of the game while developing and building individual skills and instilling the core values of sportsmanship, respect and fair play. The camp consists of individual drills and team activities. Emphasis will be placed on stick skills, footwork and game situations. Our goal for each camper is to make them stronger, more confident players who will be able to make a positive contribution to their school or club team. Lacrosse equipment is available, if needed.

FENCING Ages 8 – 13 Monday – Friday 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. July 15 – July 19 Cost: $240 (Add a half-day of Ranney Day Camp for an additional $250) Director: Agota Balot, State Champion Coach and Ranney School Head Fencing Coach / Owner of Atlantic Fencing Academy Boys and girls will learn the art of fencing at this sport camp. The goal of the camp is to introduce the three Olympic weapons: foil, epee and saber. Newcomers to the sport will gain valuable instruction and guidance to become better fencers. Advanced fencers will have the chance to refine technique, gain strategic advice and have extended practice time to improve skills. Protective equipment will be provided by the camp. Campers will need sweat/warm-up pants, clean sneakers and a T-shirt. The Fencing Camp will take place at the Atlantic Fencing Academy, One Sheila Drive, Tinton Falls, NJ.

Director: Tyler Schmelz, Ranney School Head Boys’ Basketball Coach Our Basketball Camp will allow students to learn about the fundamentals of basketball and the rules of the game by utilizing basic skills like dribbling, passing, pivoting and ball handling. Campers will improve their skills and gain confidence in their abilities with daily drill work. The week will include drills, passing, shooting, rebounding, 2-on-2 and 3-on-3 contests and other activities to strengthen the players’ skills.

GOLF Ages 11 – 14 Monday – Friday 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. July 22 – July 26 Cost: $425 (Includes lunch) Director: Brian Bevin’s Golf The Ranney Golf Camp will include instruction in all facets of the game of golf, course play, fun and educational activities and professional instruction. Students do not need golf experience, and equipment will be provided, if needed. The camp will include instruction in fundamentals like swing, proper stroke, rules and etiquette, and drills and contests. The Ranney Golf Camp will be held at Twin Brook Golf Center in Tinton Falls, NJ, which provides dedicated short-game area, putting green, practice range and a nine-hole executive golf course.

SOCCER Ages 8 – 13 Monday – Friday July 15 – July 19 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Cost: $190 (Add a half-day of Ranney Day Camp for an additional $250) Director: New Jersey Wildcats Soccer Club Our Soccer Camp will focus on fundamentals and basic skills including ball control, trapping, foot technique, passing and shooting, basic goal keeping and throw-ins. Players will learn the many terms used in soccer and will be taught the rules of the game. Players will improve their skills through daily drills, games and contests.

SWIMMING

Ages 6 – 10 Monday – Friday 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. July 8 – July 12 Cost: $300 (Add a half-day of Ranney Day Camp for an additional $250)

This camp is designed to meet the needs of individuals looking to be serious competitive swimmers. The campers will improve techniques in the four competitive swim strokes, starts and turns. The camp will have limited enrollment to ensure individualized instruction from our fine staff of swim coaches. The camp experience will include drills, lectures and a review of competitive techniques to help build self-confidence as a higher level of competitive proficiency is achieved. The week will conclude with a camp swim meet in the Walling Aquatic Center, our six-lane, 25 meter, heated indoor pool. The pool is equipped with a sunroof and a new Colorado Time System.

TENNIS Ages 8 – 13 Monday – Friday June 24 – June 28 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Cost: $190 (Add a half-day of Ranney Day Camp for an additional $250) Limited space available Director: Christel Contrera, Ranney School Head Tennis Coach Basic skills and fundamentals will be the focus of our Tennis Camp. Campers will build skills while learning about the USTA (United Sates Training Association) approach to tennis and practicing techniques that include training, serving, forehand and backhand and volley and overhead shots. Campers will build their skill levels through physical conditioning and developing accuracy in a positive learning environment. Throughout the week, campers will transition into singles and doubles strategies and learn drills to improve their skill set and game, as well as their overall knowledge of tennis.

The ACT preparation program is designed to meet the needs of sophomore, junior and senior students who wish to improve math and verbal scores. Instruction is given in vocabulary, reading comprehension, problem-solving and test-taking strategies. The skills acquired in this course are solidified through an intensive schedule of practice examinations. Course materials are provided.

PSAT PREPARATION Monday – Friday 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. June 24 – August 2 For students entering grades 8–10 Cost: $1,600 This course is designed to meet the needs of eighth, ninth and tenth grade students who are interested in preparing for the PSAT, National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Instruction is given in vocabulary, reading comprehension, problem-solving and test-taking strategies. The skills acquired in this course are solidified through an intensive schedule of practice examinations. Course materials are provided.

SAT PREPARATION Monday – Friday 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. June 24 – August 2 For students entering grades 8–12 Cost: $1,600 The SAT preparation program is an intensive class with a proven track record of success. It is designed to meet the needs of sophomore, junior and senior students who wish to improve SAT math and verbal scores. Instruction is given in vocabulary, reading comprehension, problem-solving and test-taking strategies. The skills acquired in this course are solidified through an intensive schedule of practice examinations. Course materials are provided.

ADVANCED SEMINAR: ALGEBRA I - A COMPLETE COURSE Monday – Friday 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. June 24 – August 2 For students entering grades 7–12 Cost: $2,500 This course is designed for the exceptional Pre-Algebra student who desires to advance his or her placement in mathematics. Focused on a quick pace and significant class participation and homework, this course will challenge participants with a demanding work load and daily quizzes or tests. The Algebra I A Complete Course will satisfy state requirements for a complete year of Algebra I. This six-week four-hour per day course will serve as a replacement for a complete year of mathematics in many area high schools. Students interested in this course must have taken Pre-Algebra or Algebra during the past school year. This seminar will also serve as a complete review for students who have recently completed an Algebra I course. Course materials and lunch are provided. Ranney students will need the recommendation of their previous math teacher to enroll in this course. Ranney students who earn a minimum average of 85% at course completion may qualify to enroll in geometry in the fall.

ADVANCED SEMINAR: GEOMETRY - A COMPLETE COURSE Monday – Friday 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. June 24 – August 2 For students entering grades 8–12 Cost: $2,500 This course is designed for the exceptional Algebra I student who desires to advance his or her placement in mathematics. This rigorous six-week four-hour per day course will satisfy all state requirements for a complete geometry program and will count as a full year of mathematics study in many area schools. This intensive study of geometry will be accompanied by significant class and homework and daily quizzes or tests. This seminar will also serve as a complete review for students who have recently completed a Geometry course. Students interested in this course must have taken Algebra I during the past school year. Course materials and lunch are provided. Ranney students will need the recommendation of their Algebra I teacher to enroll and need a minimum average of 85% at course completion to enroll in Algebra II in the fall.

The Pre-Calculus: A Complete Course will satisfy state requirements for a complete year of Pre-Calculus. This six-week four-hour per day course will serve as a replacement for a complete year of mathematics in many area schools. THREE-WEEK COURSES INTRODUCTION TO BIOLOGY Monday – Friday 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. June 24 – July 12 For students entering grades 9–12 Cost: $1,250 This science course is designed as an introduction to topics and lab work for students approaching the study of biology in a high school science program. Topics of study include: organic chemistry; biochemistry; classical and molecular genetics; anatomy and physiology. This course also includes research and lab experiments. Course materials and lunch are provided.

INTRODUCTION TO CHEMISTRY Monday – Friday 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. June 24 – July 12 For students entering grades 9–12 Cost: $1,250 This science course is designed as an introduction to topics and lab work for students approaching the study of chemistry in a high school science program. Topics of study include: gas laws; acid-base reaction; equilibrium; equations and stoichiometry; periodicity and bonding. This course also includes research and lab experiments. Course materials and lunch are provided.

Students will explore the short story, the poem, the fractured fairytale, the sitcom and screenplay. Within the context of a given genre, students read and critique selections by a variety of authors, examining the many ways to approach each form of work. Students will write a series of pieces within each particular genre, revising and responding to critiques, as they produce a portfolio of revised and polished pieces of writing. Instruction and practice is in reading critically, thinking logically, responding to texts, developing research skills, and writing substantive essays through systematic revision while developing a fluent, precise, and versatile prose style. This course will serve as an introduction to print and electronic bibliographic resources that are fundamental to research. Students will use iPhoto and Adobe Photoshop to manipulate their images and will develop an understanding of photographic techniques and aesthetics. We will begin by asking what makes a strong photograph to discussions of framing, contrast, composition and finally, presentation. Students will develop their photography skills and eye for detail.

PREPARING THE COLLEGE PORTFOLIO Monday – Friday 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. June 24 – July 12 For students entering grades 10 – 12 Cost: $920 This class has been designed to introduce students to the basic use of two-dimensional media. Starting from the inception of a composition, students will be guided in various techniques through its organization and completion. Students will be instructed in the creation of the illusion of depth, and texture, while being given the opportunity to draw from observation a variety of subjects including the human form, still life and landscapes. While receiving instruction in sighting, composition and value, students will be given the opportunity to build a valuable portfolio of work, as they continue their visual arts studies. Students will receive a solid grounding in drawing. This seminar will also be of particular interest in the AP Studio Art course. The rigorous instruction and time focused on portfolio depth will be important to students seeking to complete this AP program.

ENGINEERING ADVENTURES: BUILDING AND CREATING What did the three little pigs know about engineering? Students will find out as they experiment with building blocks and discover properties of different materials and the forces that can be applied to them. Children’s literature, art, math and science activities and spatial design challenges, like building three-dimensional letters and testing towers, will provide just the right structure for this dynamic class for boys and girls!

UNDER THE SEA! The ocean’s treasures will come to life through literature, song and art projects as children explore amazing sea creatures and the shells that some call home. ALL THINGS PAPER: PRETTY THINGS TO FAIRY WINGS

This creative art and literature class will delight with paper dolls and stories of garden fairies and other earthly creatures. Come to a fairy princess picnic dressed for fun in pretty things like fairy wings, paper garland necklaces and a crown of paper flowers; fairy refreshments are sure to be the hit of the party!

DISCOVERIES IN MATHEMATICAL & SCIENTIFIC INVESTIGATIONS FOR GIFTED & TALENTED STUDENTS Through nature walks, cross-disciplinary learning and lab experiences, students practice deductive and inductive reasoning and problem-solving skills as a basis for mathematical and scientific thinking. Students will integrate learning as they inquire, hypothesize, experiment and record conclusions as a way to gain knowledge and skills. This class is designed for students who exhibit advanced cognitive skills and, if grade applicable, have been identified by national test scores as gifted and talented.

MUSIC CONSERVATORY INSTRUMENTAL INSIGHTS: ORCHESTRA Orchestra Insights features two levels of string orchestras (intermediate and advanced) for musicians between the 3rd and 8th grades. The focus is on violin, viola and cello. Repertoire is carefully chosen based upon the educational needs of each ensemble. Basic ensemble skills coupled with string pedagogy are stressed in daily rehearsals and sectionals. The daily schedule includes an organized warm-up for musicians to begin their practice followed by a group lesson and repertoire session. Class time is devoted to special topics such as sight reading, rhythmic reading, bowing techniques and additional rehearsal. Participants will have an opportunity to work on new and traditional string ensemble literature, and to perform with faculty in sectionals. A final performance in RSPA Panther Hall will conclude the session. No audition is necessary, but students and parents will be interviewed to determine placement.

INTERACTIVE ASTRONOMY This engaging science course focuses on discovering how and why things happen in the universe. Experiments, journal writing, research and interactive games, along with iPad learning, will ensure that this class is out of this world with fun!

SCIENCE LAB: MAGIC MAGNETS Through creative play, interactive activities and experiments, students in this dynamic science class will investigate magnets to discover some fundamental laws of physics and chart research that focuses on the magnetic poles of the Earth. Students will also design an original map complete with positional compass rose and build a working compass that they will put to good use on a campus hike.

WORLD DRUMMING: RHYTHMS, SONG & DANCE Students will enjoy the creative rhythms, songs and dances that celebrate the drum as the heartbeat of world cultures. While the tones of the notes will guide the drumbeat, the spirit of the drum circle will inspire the rhythmic voices and creative dances that will make this class a community of artists.

CREATIVE ARTS Students will explore the world of creative arts through a variety of materials while developing and enhancing drawing skills and experimenting with sketching tools. Students will mix color palettes and enjoy the experiences of painting outdoors on our beautiful campus. Fun three-dimensional projects will also be created with wood and clay.

Students will study how living things behave while discovering the processes that ensure life on the planet. This class focuses on scientific investigation and experiments that unlock mysteries like diffusion and osmosis. A $50 field trip fee will be added to the tuition.

ELEMENTARY ENGINEERING: SOLAR, WATER & WIND No hard hats are required for this hands-on science and engineering class. Students will investigate properties of sun, water and wind, as they complete experiments and use engineering principles to discover good design when it comes to energy – all with creative and collaborative play in mind!

DRAWING Students will learn a variety of different drawing techniques, including gesture and contour drawing and drawing from observation. They will also use a variety of materials as they develop a summer sketchbook in this visually stimulating class.

ADVANCED READING & WRITING FOR YOUNG GIFTED & TALENTED STUDENTS This class is designed for students with above grade level reading fluency and comprehension skills. Using the Junior Great Books® Series as a backdrop for shared inquiry, students will read, analyze and discuss essential questions relating to themes found in cultural stories. With a focus on honing reading and writing strategies, good readers will develop stronger thinking and writing skills and increased confidence in sharing their ideas in this dynamic class. Students can continue with new coursework from Session I. This class is designed for students who exhibit advanced cognitive skills and, if grade applicable, have been identified by national test scores as gifted and talented.

WHAT’S THE MATTER: INTERACTIVE CHEMISTRY! This hands-on course focuses on scientific investigation with experiments that reveal the secrets of changing matter. Students will grow their own crystals, learn how to make pennies turn green, experiment with liquids, create crystal ink and magic writing – and much more!

ELEMENTARY ARCHITECTURE: DESIGN & BUILDING PROJECTS This hands-on class is sure to please creative thinkers and budding artists as they study design principles and natural and man-made building materials. Students will record their ideas and two-dimensional drawings in a Creative Thinking and Design Journal, while three-dimensional building projects will bring them to life!

EXPLORATION THROUGH THE AGES Students in this class will explore the complexity of “discovery.” Opportunities to use technology to research famous explorers and learn compass and map reading skills will set the stage for an on-campus treasure hunt! CHESS FOR BEGINNERS Chess is an exceptional way to teach higher-level thinking skills while advancing math, reading and science skills for graph reading, thinking ahead, predicting and divergent problem solving. Chess also affords students measured benefits in focus, academic skills and confidence while playing with peers.

CERAMICS, SCULPTURE & GLASS 18

This class explores three–dimensional aesthetic issues with both kiln-fired clay and oil-based clay to create ceramic sculpture. Students are introduced to fused glass and combine glass and clay to create unique sculptures.

CREATIVE ARTS Students explore the world of creative arts through a variety of materials. Developing and enhancing drawing skills and experimenting with sketching tools are important elements of this course. Students will mix color palettes and enjoy the experience of painting outdoors on our beautiful campus. Fun, three-dimensional projects will also be created with wood and clay.

ADVANCED READING & WRITING WORKSHOP FOR GIFTED & TALENTED STUDENTS These classes are for students who excelled in language arts during their previous school year. STRIKE A BALANCE: ART, MATH & SCIENCE Research and discussion will provide the vehicle of expression for students to examine balances from many angles. Students in this fascinating course will investigate the graphic design principles and mathematics behind Mauritas Cornelis Escher’s artwork as they practice keen observational skills when visualizing the geometry and the logic of space. Students will dapple in different art mediums as they create regular and irregular works of art known as tessellations.

Go behind the scene of a mock television newsroom and learn what it takes to be a TV anchor. In this hands-on course, students will experience working both on and off-camera to write and report campus news, sports and the weather. A variety of exercises will enhance students’ public speaking, writing and interpersonal skills and allow them to explore their creativity and personal interests. Students will be introduced to the process of production, including recording, editing and reviewing the finished product – their very own newscast! HIGH SCHOOL PREP COURSE: READING,

READING, WRITING AND PUBLIC SPEAKING This study skills course is designed for students with immature or weak organizational and study skills who are not making the most of their academic opportunities. This course will strengthen reading proficiency, comprehension skills, writing fluency, and performance and public speaking confidence, while also developing time management, organization skills and calendar strategies for academic success.

WRITING AND STUDY SKILLS FOUNDATIONS This approach to skill building provides strategies students can use to improve organizational, time management and study skills. Study and test-taking methods and calendar, notebook and locker organization will all be aspects of this relevant course.

CAMP AND SCHOOL PERMISSION SLIPS Permission is herby granted to Summer Programs at Ranney School to take my child on local trips outside camp and school as part of the regular program.

PICTURES AND VIDEO Parent herby grants permission for photographs and video to be taken during Summer Programs at Ranney School, and the school has a right to utilize photographs in camp and school brochures, display photography or electronic media.

EMERGENCY / EMERGENCY TREATMENT / FERPA I understand that emergencies and/or injuries may occur during sports and competitions, field trips, on and off-campus activities, etc. I give my permission to share medical information as needed with the appropriate personnel. I give my consent for the school nursing staff, administrators, coaches, and athletic trainers to use their own judgment in application of first aid treatment and in securing medical aid and ambulance service as necessary. I authorize health information to be shared between Ranney School Health Services and Ranney School personnel in a confidential “need to know” basis in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.

MEDICAL In order for your child to be registered for summer study or camp, all medical forms must be returned prior to the start of the summer programs. Please note that a physical or physician’s signature is not required.

NUT POLICY Summer Programs at Ranney School strives to maintain a nut-free campus and tries to avoid having nut products on campus. Therefore, we ask for parents’ cooperation in not sending any food containing nuts to camp. This includes (but is not limited to): peanut butter sandwiches or crackers; peanut butter cookies; trail mixes; candy containing nuts; and nut snacks. Ranney cannot guarantee that it is 100% nut free, but it is willing to support families with this issue as they learn to manage their child’s needs.

ACTIVITIES My child has permission to engage in all programmed camp and school activities, except as noted on the medical form.

TUITION REFUND POLICY There are no refunds for absences, withdrawals or emergency closings.

DISMISSAL OF CAMPER The school reserves the right to dismiss any student or camper whose condition, conduct, influence or behavior is deemed unsatisfactory or detrimental to the best interest of the student, fellow students, camper, or fellow campers. In these instances, refunds will be issued at the discretion of the school

TRANSPORTATION Transportation may not be available if registration is tendered after May 31, 2013. Bus routes, length of ride, pick-up and drop off times will not be guaranteed. Air-conditioned busses cannot be guaranteed. Transportation is door-to-door when possible. All changes in transportation must be made in advance in writing with at least one dayâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s notice. The school reserves the right to terminate transportation for any student or camper based on bus behavior (Transportation Questions 732-542-4777, ext.1167)
