AREA HISTORY

Paisley is a small town in the southeastern part of Oregon, located in Lake County. The area that is now Paisley was first inhabited by the Paiute Native American tribe, who used the abundant resources of the region to sustain themselves.

Paisley became a hub for the surrounding area, providing services for the local ranches and farms. In 1910, the Oregon Trunk Railroad reached Paisley, which further boosted the town’s economy.

During the mid-20th century, the timber industry also became a significant source of employment in the area, as logging companies harvested the nearby forests. However, this industry declined in the 1970s and 1980s, leading to a decrease in population in the region.

Today, Paisley remains a small town with a population of around 200 people. The town is known for its natural beauty, including the nearby Summer Lake and the nearby Hart Mountain National Antelope Refuge, which draws visitors to the area for hiking, hunting, and birdwatching. The town also hosts an annual Mosquito Festival, a lighthearted celebration of the area’s abundant mosquitoes.
