I’m so pleased to have a national reward and recognition program in place to celebrate and share these wonderful achievements. The National Ramsay Way Awards recognise and celebrate the exceptional efforts and contributions of our dedicated team members who go above and beyond to make a real and positive difference in our workplace and in the world at large. From a total of 400 local submissions, there were 94 outstanding individuals and teams nominated for national judging in the three Ramsay Way Awards categories of: People Caring for People, Innovation and Excellence and Ramsay Cares. The judges faced an extraordinarily difficult task, but it was also incredibly encouraging learning about the dedication and drive of so many Ramsay people.

She puts their needs first, always willing to go the extra mile to make their stay at the hospital as comfortable and stressfree as possible. Cate also offers wonderful support for her colleagues. Whether providing clinical support, offering emotional support or simply being a listening ear, she is there to lend a helping hand. She is known for her positive attitude and her ability to make even the most challenging situations feel manageable. In her role as Hospital Coordinator, Cate has demonstrated h strong leadership skills. She is able to effectively manage a team of nurses and ensure that all patients receive the care they need. A midwife with unwavering passion and innovation Clinical Nurse Specialist and Registered Midwife, Colette Lamberton, has been awarded Ramsay’s Innovation and Excellence Award in this year’s inaugural National Ramsay Way Awards. Colette consistently goes above and beyond to provide exceptional care for her patients. Throughout her career, she has played a pivotal role in revising birth practices and policies to promote a more woman-centered approach. Her unwavering passion and dedication to improving the birthing experience for women led her to develop the ‘Labour Support Chair’ - a unique tool designed to provide comfort, aesthetics and support during the first stage of labour. Colette meticulously researched the physiological mechanisms of labour and incorporated evidence-based principles into the chair’s design. She navigated complex regulatory procedures and addressed concerns raised by educators, demonstrating her tenacity and commitment to her vision. The Labour Support Chair was successfully trialled at Bankstown Public Hospital, receiving positive evaluations from expectant mothers and midwives. Colette’s innovation has the potential to transform the birthing experience for countless women worldwide. Colette’s dedication and innovation have been recognised by her peers and industry leaders, being commended for her passion, tenacity, drive, and unwavering commitment to improving patient care. Colette is a true inspiration to her colleagues and a beacon of hope for women seeking a positive and empowering birthing experience. Her passion, dedication to evidence-based practices and inventive spirit set her apart as an exceptional midwife.

Innovation and excellence in hospital cleaning Hollywood Private Hospital cleaner, Mitko Gramatikov, has been recognised for his exceptional contributions to maintaining a clean and hygienic environment for patients and employees. His willingness to share his knowledge and expertise with his peers has significantly improved the hospital’s overall sanitary standards and his efforts have directly contributed to improved patient care and satisfaction. Mitko has developed innovative techniques for carpet cleaning and deep scrubbing of bathrooms, ensuring that every corner of the hospital sparkles. His reputation as a ‘go-to’ cleaning specialist is well-deserved and colleagues and supervisors alike rely on his expertise to tackle even the most challenging cleaning tasks. Mitko’s dedication to high-quality work extends beyond his specialised cleaning skills. He is always willing to go the extra mile, covering shifts in various areas, including patient transport, ward cleaning, discharge cleaning and facility cleaning. The Ramsay Way Awards national judges were particularly impressed by Mitko’s team approach and his ability to lead by example. RAMSAY CARES AWARD
Clinical Nurse of Anaesthetics North West Private Hospital, Qld
Sustainability champion making a real difference in the world Katie Foy, Clinical Nurse of Anaesthetics, North West Private Hospital, has been part of the perioperative management team at North West Private for several years and has made a real impact on the hospital’s environmental sustainability efforts. She initiated the ‘Save our Supplies (SOS)’ program, which diverts clean, relevant and usable medical supplies from landfill. The program has not only reduced waste but also helps to provide much-needed supplies to hospitals and organisations in developing nations. In addition to the SOS program, Katie has also started an initiative to reduce use of the anaesthetic gas desflurane in operating theatres, in favour of less environmentally harmful gases. Katie organised the collection of Haines air transfer mats, which are repurposed for Australian wildlife rescue. She also introduced a recycling system to contain small hard plastic caps, which helps to minimise harm to marine animals. Katie is a true champion of environmental sustainability and her work is making a real difference in the world.

A passionate sustainability advocate Barbara Maguire, a dedicated midwife at North Shore Private Hospital, has been recognised for her passion and enthusiasm for promoting sustainability. Barbara’s passion for environmental awareness extends beyond her worklife. In her spare time, she actively seeks out opportunities to explore innovative solutions for waste and carbon footprint reduction including: • SUMI recycling for metal instruments • PVC recycling in maternity • Food waste removal. Barbara’s enthusiasm for sustainability is contagious. She actively engages her colleagues and collaborates with companies to investigate the potential for adopting eco-friendly practices throughout Ramsay. The Ramsay Way Awards national judges were particularly impressed by Barbara’s dedication and passion. Sue Panuccio, National Environment Manager & Sustainability Lead, remarked, “Barbara seems to have unlimited enthusiasm for searching out ways to reduce our environmental footprint. She is getting others onboard and is making great inroads. I would love to have a ‘Barbara’ at every site.” Barbara is committed to bringing new life into the world while safeguarding the planet for future generations.
