THE RAM ® MOUNTS SOLUTION In order for First Student to deploy telematics solutions, they needed secure vehicle docks with a reliable connection to power and peripherals. RAM® Mounts recommended the game-changing GDS® Tech™ system. Known for connective longevity, First Student noticed the GDS® system performed better than conventional mounting solutions. This was due to the protective and connective nature of a device wrapped with IntelliSkin®, the component that allows the GDS® system to work. School buses being as dirty as they normally are, the IntelliSkin® protects the device’s USB ports and converts the connection point to pogo pin contacts making it easier to clean and maintain charge upon docking. The second requirement from First Student was the ability to use RFID, or NFC peripheral devices to enable student tracking. Fortunately, GDS® Docks™ are modular and RAM® offers docking cups that allow for additional USB-A peripherals such as the SMART tag™ RFID reader, as well as RAM®’s patented NFC Extender.
