HELPFUL BAKING TERMS MISE EN PLACE: When chefs make a recipe, they prepare everything before they start cooking. All the ingredients are chopped and measured and prepared in bowls, ready to add in when needed. Having all your ingredients prepared and ready is called “mise en place,” a French term that means “everything in its place.” It’s a great way to cook and bake because it can make the whole process easier and so much more fun. It’s also a great way to live, even outside of the kitchen! Need to have your backpack packed up, lunch prepared, and test signed before school starts in the morning? Try applying “mise en place” to that too, and see how much smoother and less stressful your mornings become! We can also remember that Hashem, the Chef of Life, who is cooking up everything in this world, has the ultimate “mise en place.” All the pieces of creation are in place. When we simply focus on working with the ingredients He has prepared for us, the recipe for life becomes a lot easier to get right! OUNCE THAT?
