Sports Camps

All Sports Camp

This camp is designed to provide campers an opportunity to to learn and play a variety of games and sports, to keep their minds and bodies active, and to promote the core tenets of spirit and sportsmanship embodied by all Rabun Gap athletics.

Campers will participate in activities such as soccer, lacrosse, tennis, speed and agility, golf, kickball, wiffle ball, flickerball, track and field events, and more! The goal is for every camper to leave with a feeling of satisfaction, independence, and achievement — and of course, have a blast! On Friday, we will end the fun-filled week of competition and learning with a parent expo “Olympics” style event, allowing the campers to showcase their growth and learning from the week.

The Rabun Gap Baseball Camp encompasses all breakdowns of baseball: fielding, baserunning, sportsmanship, hitting, pitching, agility, strength and conditioning.

Campers will learn drills to help improve their game and then apply these skills in daily scrimmages. This camp combines a fun learning environment with a focus on pushing the player to the next level. Players of all abilities are invited as the campers will be divided into groups based on skill level. Stretching, speed, agility, and strength will start the day. Campers will also focus on skill breakdowns (infield glove work, outfield, catching etc.) and will end each day with field games and scrimmages.

Cheerleading Camp

Cheerleading combines school spirit, enthusiasm, cooperation, and teamwork.

This introductory camp is designed for girls and boys interested in cheerleading. The camp will focus on teaching chants and cheers that can be used at our Rabun Gap football and basketball games. The kids will learn cheer motions, how to be loud and make their voice carry, the most popular jumps and basic stunts. We will start each day with stretches and a warm-up dance. By the end of camp, the campers will have a routine that will be performed for parents on the last day of camp.

Lacrosse is a game of creativity and feel. The best way to develop that is through free play!

Join us on Wednesdays this summer for a weekly pickup league that will group coed students by age and ability level to play 3v3 lacrosse. We will use tennis balls and there will be very minimal body contact, so protective equipment will not be used. Girls are encouraged to use boys sticks because handling a tennis ball with a girl’s stick is quite difficult. Sticks will be provided if athletes do not have one of their own. Each session will begin with roughly thirty minutes of a skill-driven exercise that will have a variety of solutions/skills to it. Following the skill-driven exercise, we will mix up athletes into groups of three based on age and skill level for free play games of 3v3 on small goals. This style of play ensures all players get warp speed experience and touches on the ball - something that can’t be replicated in a traditional practice or game play setting!

Starting New at Golf (SNAG)

Starting New at Golf (SNAG) is a national program designed to teach students of all ages, the game of golf in a safe and engaging way. It contains all the basic elements of golf, but in a modified form, falling somewhere between miniature golf and regulation golf.

SNAG focuses on simple, structured instruction for all new learners and a modified form of golf that allows play in non-traditional venues, like our very own Rabun Gap campus. Even though this is not on a traditional golf course, SNAG allows for full shots, pitching, chipping, and putting. The system builds strong fundamentals of the various shots in golf to develop playing ability quickly and effectively. The SNAG game has its own simplified rules and terminology that adds fun to the learning and playing experience.

Join Rabun Gap Early Learning teachers for this fun and exciting multi-sensory approach to writing our letters.

Using the Orton Gillingham method, this is a handson scientifically based form of learning how to write and learn letter sounds. Proper letter formation is an essential part of early childhood education. When taught in sequential order through multi-sensory activities, students can remember how to form letters neatly and smoothly. Letter identification and lettersound correspondence will also be explored during camp. At the end of the week, students will have their very own personal ABC deck keepsake that will correspond to the sounds and images used in our Lower School Fundations curriculum.

Led by Lower School teachers Dee Gallo-Hounsell and Dori Childs.

Campers in grades 3-5 will work with themed boxes based on a beloved children’s book that contain ingredients for a Sugar & Sweets War.
