that builds communities

F

or the past 50 years, Quest has transformed the lives of thousands of individuals, enabling them to become more independent and reach their goals. This success was made possible by gifts of support from our local community.

Born out of the concerns of a group of dedicated parents who wanted to ensure brighter futures for their adult children with disabilities, whose options were limited, Quest focused on services that would impact these adults at its inception. But with the escalating rate of autism in children, the emergence of an aging population of individuals with special needs and society’s changing view of disability, a heavier emphasis was placed on serving people at all stages of life. Using Quest’s core competencies of providing behavioral therapy and programming, the organization has grown. Today, Quest helps people with disabilities as young as 15 months to well over the age of 80 achieve their dreams of going to school, having a job, living on their own and experiencing summer camp.

We know the impact Quest makes! In response to this urgency, Quest offers a new way of giving – a catalog to substantially increase the scope and impact of Quest’s work. Our goal: To raise the funds necessary to continue to impact the educational, vocational, residential and recreational work of Quest. Our hope is that through partnerships like yours, we can double the number of people we serve while meeting your social impact desires. With your support, Quest can continue to provide individuals with disabilities an opportunity to live complete and fulfilling lives. Whether you choose to give as an individual, family, group, association or corporation, there is a project to excite you. Our hope is that you will look through this catalog, choose a project you’d like to support, and join us in this effort to make a lasting difference. On behalf of the more than 1,100 people we serve daily, thank you for helping us build communities where people with disabilities can achieve their dreams! Warmest regards,

With nearly 166,000 individuals impacted by a disability in Central Florida alone, Quest has now reached a critical stage in its development. We have an opportunity to give those in need sustainable sources of quality care, therapy, income and most of all, hope. Quest seeks to expand its children and adult services in the coming years. In order to make significant strides in meeting this goal, we must search for long-term partnerships. The need to do so is urgent.

ost young children are naturally inquisitive and imaginative. They tend to be explorative and influenced by the sights and sounds of the world around them. They are often playful and interactive. But for children with developmental delays or disabilities, this is not always the case. A child with special needs often has difficulty communicating with others, interacting with peers, playing appropriately or developing relationships. Specialized services can help them combat these challenges, and with as many as one in 110 U.S. children affected by disorders like autism, the need for support is becoming greater every day.

Educational

Quest specializes in serving children with autism, learning delays and related disabilities. Available to toddlers as young as 15 months old – when the first signs of a developmental delay might typically occur – the program continues to provide support for children, teens and young adults up to the age of 22. Therapy and academic plans are customized to each child’s individual needs, goals and abilities.

Nearly 200 children receive one-on-one behavioral therapy or are enrolled in one of Quest’s schools. While there, they are given tools to communicate and receive intensive instruction in language, self-care, social skills, academics and decision-making. Through Quest’s educational program, they are able to reach their personal goals, require fewer support services later in childhood and be more independent throughout their lives, ensuring their future success!

Few things symbolize childhood as perfectly as a playground does. With their brightly colored swings and slides, playgrounds are a place where children come together to walk, run, climb and enjoy their youth; a place where they can be themselves and explore the world around them.

A classroom is a place where learning can flourish. It is where children collaborate with one another and explore the world around them. It is where ideas are shared, self-confidence is built and success is achieved.

For children with autism, the value of a playground is monumental. They offer opportunities to work on challenges characterized by the disorder, such as interacting with peers, learning to follow instructions and etiquette, improving fine and gross motor skills, and increasing language skills.

For students with autism and other disabilities at Quest’s schools, the classroom delivers a structured learning environment that promotes academic achievement and prepares them for the future. To provide students with the most effective learning opportunities, these schools must be equipped with essential materials and have access to cutting-edge resources.

Establish a new, accessible playground at a Quest school to benefit current and future generations of students. Help furnish the project by sponsoring a swing set, a slide, climbers or benches and other amenities!

Furnish a classroom with school supplies, teaching tools, computers, tables, desks and chairs. Or sponsor all these needs for an entire classroom with a name sponsorship and leave a lasting legacy! Funds from a name sponsorship will enable the school to make any improvements needed and refresh its materials, equipment and supplies throughout the school year, while donors will receive permanent on-site recognition.

Therapy Resources

Walk into the youth therapy center at Quest, and you’ll see the perfect setting for a child: A world of colors and imagination where toys fill the bins, children’s artwork covers the walls and books line the shelves. These are all learning tools used as part of the therapy program for children with disabilities and developmental delays at Quest. And each resource is an opportunity for a child to explore, investigate and discover language and communication.

Field trips play an essential role in a child’s education: They enrich the academic curriculum and expose students to opportunities they may not otherwise have had. For children with disabilities and related disorders, field trips make learning more meaningful. Real-world experiences keep students stimulated, help them make connections to their studies, strengthen their observation and sensory skills, and provide them with a practical outlet to interact with others. Make learning come alive by sponsoring one child’s or one classroom’s monthly field trip. From museums and the zoo to theme parks and the theatre, you’ll be providing students with a lifetime of memories and knowledge!

Supply the children’s therapy center with age-appropriate puzzles, flash cards, toys and games, books, DVDs, software and cuttingedge learning devices. Sponsor an entire therapy room to furnish the space as often as is needed, and you will have it named in your honor and receive permanent on-site recognition.

Music Program

Music is a powerful tool: It is a channel for self-expression, an outlet for creativity and a form of therapy. Children have a natural love for its energetic beats and catchy tunes, but music is also a tool used to encourage social, cognitive and perceptual development. Students at Quest’s schools engage in weekly music courses where they learn common terms, read notes and play instruments. The program boosts their selfesteem, improves their motor skills and enhances their nonverbal communication. Expand Quest’s music program by furnishing a classroom with a new musical keyboard. This special instrument is the perfect tool for children with autism to showcase their musical capabilities.

Early literacy opens the door to success. Children who are given opportunities to develop the skills needed for language, reading and writing experience improved quality of life and higher levels of self-esteem and independence. Learning to read can be challenging for children with autism and related disabilities, who often struggle linking words to their meanings. At Quest’s Literacy Alive program, these students participate in intense weekly sessions to surpass these obstacles. Enrich the lives of children with disabilities with the vital gifts of reading and writing. You’ll break down barriers to literacy and empower children to thrive.

Sensory rooms are areas designed for people with disabilities to explore and develop their senses and skills. By creating a controlled, comfortable and safe environment, these rooms engage users with bright lights, soothing sounds, and textured shapes and patterns. Therapists have found that sensory rooms promote neurological activity, encourage relaxation and reduce stress in children and adults. Enhance the sensory room at a Quest school with interactive equipment, multifunctional lighting and audio, and soft areas and mats. Your support will provide therapeutic benefits to students and enable them to develop essential skills through touch, sound and light.

Summer Programs

When the school year wraps up, students are eager to partake in the lazy days of summer. But it’s important for children with special needs to remain engaged and use the new skills they’ve acquired so they don’t experience a loss of learning. To prevent a setback, Quest’s schools offer a stimulating summer curriculum and Extended School Year (ESY) services designed to keep students motivated. These programs meld together academics with fun, season-appropriate activities where students receive fresh learning experiences that reinforce what they were exposed to during the year. Help a child make ongoing progress through the summer education programs at Quest. They’ll continue to maintain, grow and develop their skills.

Gardening is a fun and healthy activity enjoyed by people of all ages and ability levels. The hands-on hobby also offers many therapeutic benefits and educational rewards. At Quest’s schools, students spend time throughout the year planting seeds, caring for vegetables and harvesting crops in the school’s community garden. They gain exposure to sensory activities such as digging; to new textures and smells; and to different foods by tasting vegetables they’ve harvested. They also develop social skills by working alongside students from a neighboring school and learn about money management by later selling the vegetables. Help students’ skills blossom by sponsoring the interactive garden! Your gift can fund the seeds, plants, tools, accessories or fencing needed to cultivate the program.

Communication is the key to learning. But for a child with a developmental delay or disorder like autism, communication can be frustrating. These children often have trouble using language to articulate their wants and needs, relating to other people, linking words to their meanings, participating in leisure activities or even understanding non-verbal cues. Intensive one-on-one therapy provides the tools needed to combat these challenges. At Quest, children work with certified professionals to learn how to express themselves, how to play appropriately and how to interact with their peers. Through an individually customized program, they drastically improve their language development, social skills and behavior and start to become more independent. Open up a whole new world of possibilities for a child struggling to communicate and connect with others. Empower them to brighten their futures and unlock their full potential.

Discoveries happen every day in education, and the practice of behavioral therapy is a rapidly changing field where new advances are also regular. That’s why continuing education and training are vital. Invest in the professional development of the educators and certified therapists of Quest’s programs, and you will also be investing in the future of the children they serve. By allowing these specialists to stay informed of current methodologies and strategies, they will be more effectively prepared to lead children to success. 9

Cooking is a fun and delicious way to bring people together! The culinary classroom is a great place to make connections, build confidence and promote creativity.

Living in Florida means year-round lawn maintenance is a necessity. Luckily for local companies and residences, Quest’s lawn care program is available to beautify the community, one lawn at a time!

At Quest’s vocational training centers, the adult cooking class teaches safe food handling procedures and basic food preparation skills to a team of people with disabilities. For many, the class is the first time they’ve ever cooked for themselves. They gain a sense of independence and practical tips on taking care of themselves at home, in addition to making sensible food choices and creating simple meals.

Quest’s lawn care program offers services such as mowing, raking, weeding and edging, but what makes this program dynamic is that it employs adults of all abilities. With this opportunity, they learn new skills, secure a paycheck, become more independent and revel in the satisfaction of a job well done.

Regardless of age, adults should never stop learning. Continuing education is at the cornerstone of professional and personal development and success. To encourage the mind stimulation of adults with disabilities there are learning centers - designated areas that feature a range of educational materials.

Performing frequent physical management techniques delivers the movements needed to relieve pressure on the body, avoid stress on the skin and reach the healthiest rest environment possible. Quest is one of the few providers in the area to offer this service at a vocational center. Led by qualified, compassionate professionals, physical management includes exercises such as repositioning, gait training and other stimulation. Your support will fund the special equipment needed to continue carrying out this important duty, resulting in healthier, more comfortable experiences.

19 Skill-Building Activities For someone who is unable to work, finding meaningful activities is essential to living a healthy and fulfilling life. By assessing individual interests, desires and goals, people attending Quest’s vocational training centers are exposed to a variety of choices designed to provide them with rewarding experiences. 21 Vocational Evaluation Understanding a job seeker's skills, abilities and interests is the first step in helping them get ready to work. By using different methods and tools, a vocational evaluation helps identify the individual's strengths, aptitudes, vocational desires, physical capabilities and functional needs relative to their employment goals. For people with varying abilities, an effective way to conduct these assessments is through specialized computer software. This instrument can develop work samples and propose model situations that test how competitive an individual will be in a particular job activity and setting. By supporting the purchase of this specialized software, your contribution will help set job seekers up for the best chances of success in a job they can do well, which will increase their self-confidence and independence.

Quest’s supported employment job coaches provide individuals with special needs the necessary guidance to land and maintain meaningful employment in the community. From finding the job opportunities to assisting with the application process, job coaches play a fundamental role in setting these adults up for success! For many, the sky’s the limit, but for young adults with disabilities who are transitioning out of high school, the options can seem limiting. Continuing education is not always possible or affordable and finding employment can be a challenge.

The use of art therapy can stimulate the minds and emotions of an adult with disabilities. Creating art gives them a chance to explore their imaginations, express themselves and engage their senses.

Technology continues to change the way people live, work, learn and play. Fundamental computer literacy skills and competency are often required to gain competitive employment, complete certain tasks or acquire basic information. This means that people with disabilities can greatly benefit from the effective usage of technology. Computers can also aid them in communicating with others, learning to read and write, reinforcing job training, participating in activities more independently and developing motor skills. Broaden the horizons of an adult with disabilities by financing the purchase of a shared computer for a group home. 29 Supported Living Coach

30 Community Outings & Activities

All adults, including those with disabilities, have a desire to live on their own. They want and deserve to choose where, how, and with whom to live. For people who are ready to transition to a self-sufficient lifestyle but still need some ongoing support, there is Quest’s supported living program. At the foundation of this program is the supported living coach.

Meaningful leisure activities and positive relationships are essential to everyone’s well-being and quality of life. But in general, people with disabilities are less likely than their peers to get together with others, attend events and join in gatherings because of the limited options they often have for social participation.

A supported living coach supplies residents with the tools they need to be successful on their own. Coaches assist with responsibilities such as managing finances, making appointments, monitoring medication usage and mastering public transportation. They also help with household maintenance and provide emergency assistance as needed. Give adults the monumental gift of independence by sponsoring a supported living coach. Empower them to make their own choices and reach their goals.

31 Splash Pad In the Florida heat, nothing feels better than time spent in the water! Swimming is a great way to cool off on a summer day, but conventional pools can be intimidating, not suitably equipped, or even dangerous for someone with physical challenges. A safer and more accessible alternative to water activities is a splash pad – an interactive aquatic recreation system that has no standing water. Splash pads feature jets, bubblers and fountains that can be enjoyed by anyone regardless of age or ability. Outfit Quest’s residential sites with a splash pad for a fun and fitness-based approach to beating the heat! You’ll create a season of memorable experiences for adults with disabilities right in their own backyards.

Exercise is for everybody. It’s a key factor in maintaining and improving overall health. A moderate amount of physical activity performed on a regular basis can result in significant benefits, including combating or preventing health diseases, enhancing mood, reducing stress, boosting energy and minimizing fatigue. These advantages are true for everyone regardless of age, gender or physical capability, but incorporating fitness into the routines of individuals with disabilities is especially important since they tend to live less active lifestyles.

ecreation is a vital component of life. Regardless of age or ability, having opportunities to participate in leisure activities is essential for the social, physical and emotional health of an individual and contributes to a balanced and meaningful existence. Because of the physical and behavioral challenges associated with developmental disabilities, children and adults with special needs often find that their choices for social outlets are limited. Luckily, Quest fulfills the fundamental need for recreation by providing a real summer camp experience to people of all abilities.

Each summer, more than 500 campers ages 8 to 80 have the time of their lives participating in a variety of fun activities, including arts & crafts, nature studies and sports & games. While on their own - many for the first time - campers begin to form lasting friendships and take on challenges that build their self-confidence and sense of independence.

Few things symbolize childhood as perfectly as a playground does. With their brightly colored swings and slides, playgrounds are a place where children come together to walk, run, climb and enjoy their youth; a place where they can be themselves and explore the world around them. For children with disabilities, the significance of a playground is monumental. They offer learning opportunities to discover the value of play, interact with peers and meet physical and social challenges. They also aid in childhood development to advance motor and cognitive skills. Leave a lasting legacy for future generations of young campers by establishing a new, accessible playground. Help furnish the project by sponsoring a swing set, a slide, climbers or benches and other amenities!

38 Nature Program

Quest is proud to offer programs that cater to each stage of life for children and adults with disabilities in Central Florida. With more than 25 locations to make these services possible, there is a revolving need for repairs, renovations and general upkeep on the buildings that house these programs.

Sunny days at summer camp are best spent connecting with the great outdoors, and Quest’s camp offers the ideal setting to discover flora and fauna! The 19-acre grounds are home to an abundance of nature and wildlife, including great blue herons, woodpeckers, white-tailed deer, river otters, fox and numerous subtropical birds.

Your contribution to fulfill this need will visibly improve our locations for the safety and well-being of the people receiving services from Quest. Children learn from each other. When they are exposed to inclusive environments at younger ages, they begin to appreciate that each person has their own skills, interests, needs and challenges. That’s why Quest introduced an inclusion program that welcomes children, teens and young adults with and without disabilities. In addition to raising awareness, teaching understanding and developing acceptance, studies have even shown that in a fully integrated camp, children with disabilities improve self-esteem, social and communication skills and confidence to participate in activities. Help Quest foster an environment of equality by sponsoring the inclusion program. Your contribution will give everyone a chance to play, learn and grow together, regardless of ability level.
