FASHION TV TO OPEN FIRST F HOTEL IN THAILAND Fashion TV (FTV), the global satellite television network, is scheduled to launch its first F Hotel in Thailand within 3 years. The project follows the success of the France-based operator’s FTV channel and 50 F Fashion apparel shops in Thailand, and is part of the company’s plan to invest in both property and highenergy drinks in the country. Excited by Thailand’s growing hotel and fashion industries, the group would like to serve visitors interested in Thailand as a shopping, leisure or business des na on. FTV is currently seeking an appropriate Bangkok loca on for a hotel with 300 rooms, 300 serviced

apartments, concept clubs, and dining. The project will be completed within 3 years at an es mated cost of US$50-80 million. The Bangkok property will be FTV’s second hotel in Southeast Asia, a er Bali. The first F Hotel is located in Dubai, UAE.

GHM TO LAUNCH NEW HOTELS IN ASIA AND BEYOND General Hotel Management Ltd (GHM), a luxury hotel and resort management group based in Asia, plans to launch a series of new bou que proper es in its home base and beyond. Having pioneered resorts in places such as Ubud, Bali and Quang Nam in Vietnam, the group is marking its third decade in hospitality with plans to open new

hotels in China and India, as well as Switzerland and the UAE. It is also developing a villa resort in Hawaii. As these proper es are launched over the next 4 years, GHM expects the size of its por olio to double. The construc on for the group’s hotel in Suzhou, China will be completed in late 2012. MAGNOLIA TO BUILD PROTESTER-PROOF CONDOS IN BANGKOK Thailand’s Magnolia Finest Corpora on will build a condominium project with specific design features to keep out protesters. The idea comes on the heels of several years of civil unrest in Thailand, culmina ng in a 2-month occupa on of one of Bangkok’s key shopping, hotel and residen al areas by protesters in the spring of 2010. The planned condo, the Ratchadamri Boulevard, will be located near Rajprasong

intersec on, the former site of the protest. According to Magnolia, the property arm of the Chearavanont family, the building will have special security features in its design to prevent protesters from gaining easy entry. The safety features will be unobtrusive and harmonious with the rest of the design. With a price tag of 6 billion baht, the 60-storey property

will include 170 hotel rooms and 325 condominium units. The hotel part will be managed by Waldorf Astoria, becoming the group’s first such property in Southeast Asia and its third in Asia. Magnolia also plans 4 addi onal new projects in 2012 worth 5 billion baht: one condo and 3 single-house projects in Bangkok’s Bang Na district and the Khao Yai area of Nakhon Ratchasima.

MIPIM 2012 TRADESHOW PUTS SPOTLIGHLIGHT ON ASIAN REAL ESTATE Delega ons from 10 Asian countries, including China, India, Japan, Singapore and South Korea, are a ending the MIPIM 2012, a Cannes-based interna onal real estate event. The Asia-themed programme will feature a succession of conferences and networking events that focus on EastWest rela onships and growth opportuni es. One session will explore the real estate situa on in the Asia Pacific region. Another will focus on China’s investment diversifica on. A

breakfast seminar will discuss the Japanese market in a me of crisis. The Asia Lunch will provide a networking opportunity for par cipants and a chance for them to present their projects. The MIPIM exhibi on zone will offer a showcase for more than 40 Asian companies from 10 countries. The Japanese delega on, the region’s largest, includes a stand promo ng real estate management companies such as Diamond Realty. Taiwan will showcase itself with

FarGlory, one of Asia’s leading development and construc on companies. One of Vietnam’s leading developers, Song Da Thang Long, will exhibit at the event for the first me.The event will conclude with an awards ceremony. Several Asian projects are in the running, including the Six Senses Con Dao project from Vietnam in the Best Hotel & Tourism Resort category, Singapore’s Reflec ons at Keppel Bay project in the Best Residen al Development category, and many more.

ONYX PLANS TO RENOVATE AND EXPAND THROUGHOUT ASIA Thailand-based Onyx Hospitality Group has a big year ahead with its domes c and interna onal ventures. The group, owned by Amari Estates, plans to renovate its 4 proper es in Thailand, including the Amari Watergate Bangkok and the Amari Coral Beach Phuket, to the tune of 1 billion baht. The group will also open 5 proper es abroad under its 3 brands, Amari, Ozo and Shama. They are the Amari

Dragon Bay in Sanya, China; the Amari Ludhiana in India’s Punjab state; the Amari Doha; the Ozo Hong Kong; and the Ozo Sri Lanka. Onyx’s proper es are doing well in Thailand, with 80% occupancy in 2012, and an increasing average room rate. The group’s key markets outside of Thailand are in China, India, Indonesia and the Middle East. It is entering

Sri Lanka with a management contract for 2 Ozo Hotels and is considering expanding into Myanmar. All in all, Onyx plans to become a leading hospitality provider in the region by 2018, with a total of 51 proper es in its por olio. The group earned 3.5 billion baht in revenue in 2011 and expects a 10% growth this year. 
