THAILAND’S CONDO LAUNCHES DECLINE DUE TO FLOODING Condominium sales have slowed in the wake of Thailand’s devastaƟng 2011 floods. Buyers have become wary of purchasing new units, causing the total number of condominium launches to drop to 5,100 units in the fourth quarter of 2011, a tangible decline from the same quarter in 2010. Some projects were also delayed due to disrupƟons in construcƟon work and logisƟcs caused by the massive flooding. However, sales

of units within inner Bangkok, especially along mass transit routes, have increased, with the total number of units in the city now standing at 322,435. As a reacƟon to the flooding, developers are also considering a shiŌ towards more high-rise projects. Experts predict the market will resume growth in 2012, with over 64,000 units scheduled for compleƟon by the end of the year.

MÖVENPICK EYES CONTINUED EXPANSION ACROSS ASIA CiƟng Asia as the fastestgrowing market, Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts has announced plans to open nine new hotels in the region before the end of 2014. The new developments will increase Mövenpick’s Asian porƞolio to sixteen, adding to exisƟng properƟes in Thailand (two in Phuket), Vietnam (one in Hanoi & one in Ho Chi Minh City) and one each in India (Bangalore), the Philippines (Cebu) and Singapore. to open in late 2013. Indonesia is set to get its first Mövenpick hotel at Jimbaran Bay in southern Bali. With 200 rooms, 70 suites, 70 branded residences, as well as extensive business and meeƟng faciliƟes, the Mövenpick Resort & Spa Jimbaran will open in 2014. The Mövenpick Hotel Colombo; the Mövenpick Hotel Shanghai; the Mövenpick Hotel & ConvenƟon Centre KLIA, Kuala Lumpur; and the Mövenpick Resort & Spa Dharamshala are also due to open in 2014.

OZO TO DEBUT IN HONG KONG Onyx Hospitality Group of Thailand, which operates Amari Hotels & Resorts, is set to launch its first Ozo branded property in Hong Kong this year when the Wesley Hotel is completely renovated and re-branded as the Ozo Wesley Hong Kong. Located in the

NEW CHINA DEVELOPMENTS KEY IN GHM GROUP’S GLOBAL EXPANSION The luxury resort and hotel group GHM (General Hotel Management Ltd.) is launching a new property and a new hotel brand in China as part of a global expansion plan to mark its third decade in the market. The group manages a number of exclusive properƟes across Asia, with locaƟons that include Thailand, Bali and Vietnam. The new Chedi Club Suzhou will feature 36 rooms that occupy 3 floors of Global 188—Suzhou’s tallest building.

Residents will enjoy access to a rooŌop restaurant, a fitness centre, and a 15-room spa. The project is due for compleƟon in late 2012 or early 2013. Working together with China’s key tourism and real estate groups, GHM is also launching a new hotel brand, Ahn Luh, with the first 2 properƟes scheduled to open in 2-3 years. Other regional properƟes under development include The Chedi Qutub in New Delhi, India and The Chedi Club & Residences
