MESSAGE FROM THE

BOARD CHAIR

I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:14 During 2021, the pandemic’s second year, it is evident that God has sustained this ministry and magnified its plans. We adopted the resolve of Philippians 3:14, determined to “press on” despite the shut-down of international travel and restrictions on group gatherings. In some ways, the global restrictions gave our international partners the time to build new, creative ways to reach people for Christ. God has mightily blessed, and 2021 turned out to be one of the most prolific years for QHM-supported outreach. We are so grateful to the faithful supporters who provided the needed funding to help bring in more than 24,000 new church members. As you view this report, please join me in a prayer of thanksgiving. Let’s continue this momentum as we add mission trips back into our work. Ralph S. Watts, Jr. Chairman of the Board 5

PERSEVERING THROUGH UNCERTAINTY How does a “mission trip” ministry work during a pandemic when it isn’t safe, or even allowed, to travel with mission teams? Going into 2021, we were encouraged by the possibilities of the future, yet disappointed to have no assurances of when we would be able to travel the world with the story of Jesus. We recognized that 2021 would be a year of perseverance through challenges of distancing and other restrictions. We began the year by claiming a verse from Paul in Philippians 3:14. We determined to “press on” in partnership with world Adventist Church leaders and share the gospel message in any safe and responsible means. This report is a true testament to the everlasting power of God who continues to guide through storms and expand human efforts. It is gratifying to see how new and diverse methods of evangelism have resulted in reaching more than 500,000 people. We look to the future with hope and a commitment to following God’s leading.

MESSAGE FROM THE

PRESIDENT

Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10 Do you remember back in late 2020 how the world was facing so much uncertainty? As we made plans for 2021 it was tough and discouraging to know what to do. Would we be able to plan mission trips for the Spring, maybe by Fall? At times if felt like there was no way forward. How could we accomplish our mission of spreading the gospel to the world if we can’t travel? As you read this report, you will not see the hours of planning and sleepless nights spent in prayer. What you will see here are the results of pressing on toward God’s calling. When we step forward in faith, God carries us through with amazing outcomes. Staying true to our ministry standards, we worked with our international partners to creatively reach people through quarantines and closures around the world. God blessed these efforts and turned 2021 into an incredibly productive year. The greatest lesson from 2021 is that there is no reason to fear the unknown. God’s faithfulness is the enduring truth that gives me tremendous confidence in the future. Randy Bates President 9

VIRTUAL EVANGELISM IN

THE PHILIPPINES Early in the year, as the pandemic was continuing in full force, our Global Evangelist, Pastor Dan Smith, coordinated with the West Visayan Conference and the Palawan Adventist Mission to pursue evangelism efforts in any way possible. In Iloilo, there was a virtual evangelistic seminar that the Lord truly blessed. Sermons were broadcast via Zoom and low-powered FM radio stations. Gospel workers followed-up on Bible interests in the city in the weeks following the series. Praise the Lord that more than 1000 people were baptized. Pastor Dan also worked with Pastor Carlito Quidet (thenPresident of the Western Mindanao Conference) and his team to orchestrate a conference-wide evangelistic effort, the first Search for Eternity series in July 2021. Pastor Dan preached in a studio in California, and his translator was in Manila, Philippines, while the technical director was in Toronto, Canada. The resulting presentation made it look like Pastor Dan and his translator were standing side by side on a church platform. The evangelism series was broadcast via Zoom, radio, and livestreamed on social media. There were also small groups that gathered in person to watch the broadcasts. Altogether, this resulted in more 6,200 baptisms.

This quickly became the model and template for an approach that has been expanded into a national virtual evangelism series that involves three conferences across the Philippines. The national series, Search for Eternity Season II, began November 26, and ended on December 4. Pastor Dan presented all new sermons. There were 68 satellite locations supported by more than 250 small groups, plus Zoom, Facebook, radio, television, and recorded videos. The estimated audience across all channels is more than 130,000 viewers. So far, more than 9,800 people were baptized through this virtual evangelism series. 13

INVESTING IN THE FUTURE The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. Luke 10:2 Some of the most rewarding mission projects are those where we may not see the immediate results. However, investing in the future by creating disciples has the potential of incredible expansion in sharing the good news of Jesus with the world. That is why we are so grateful for the opportunity to invest in education to prepare people for service in the harvest field. Training programs are happening around the globe. One of the most exciting is taking place in Vietnam. After two years of strict lockdown, restrictions are lifting. Pastor Khoi Tran Quoc wasted no time in gathering 30 pastors and gospel workers for special training in evangelism. He says, “We don’t know when this window of opportunity will be gone, since we are living in a very uncertain time.” Another 19 students are signed up for the next session. In Indonesia and the Philippines, tuition scholarships are helping prepare students to be disciples. These future pastors, religion educators, teachers, nurses, and nutritionists will touch countless lives in their careers. These programs and more are some of the best ways to invest in the future for God’s kingdom. 14

MESSAGE FROM

THE CFO

God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. 2 Corinthians 9:8 There are many different factors in which to evaluate success in a ministry. As a nonprofit entity, we are not in business to make a profit to give our shareholders. Our financial calling is to be excellent stewards of the provided resources supporting our mission. You will see in this report how the finances have supported worldwide evangelism and the results of this work. I personally appreciate serving at Quiet Hour Ministries because of our board and leadership’s care in managing the finances. Being 100 percent donor-supported, I have a high level of appreciation for the trust of our contributors, as evidenced by the faithfully continued gifts throughout the pandemic. As we press on through these challenging times, I believe it is clear that God is blessing the efforts of our ministry “in all things at all times,” as promised in 2 Corinthians 9. As I focus on keeping track of the numbers, I always pray for the work and the people reached around the world.
