New Voices: Workshop Productions Experience Philadelphia’s most compelling young writers: the winners of the Philadelphia Young Playwrights 2013 Annual Playwriting Festival!

Featuring

First Place Winning High School Plays and Monologues

October 10-19, 2013 Temple University’s Randall Theater 2020 N. 13th Street Philadelphia, PA

We proudly welcome you to New Voices, the twenty-sixth annual collaboration of Philadelphia Young Playwrights and Temple University’s Theater Department and that launches Young Playwrights’ 25th Anniversary Season! Our workshop rehearsals and productions offer our ten amazing student playwrights ways to engage in the collaborative theatre process and to see their written words on paper transform into live stage performances. Their plays and monologues were selected as winners from the more than 1,400 submissions to Young Playwrights’ 2013 Playwriting and Monologue Festivals! New Voices celebrates not only the achievements of our ten featured writers, but also the exceptional efforts of the nearly 2,000 young playwrights in our program each year. Our writers, and we, all benefit enormously from the support of the entire Young Playwrights community – classroom teachers, teaching artists, parents, directors, dramaturges, Literary Committee members and production specialists. Much gratitude also goes to Young Playwrights’ Board of Directors, Youth Council, Producers’ Circle and all loyal investors, whose valued partnerships enable us to tap the potential of youth and inspire learning through playwriting. Temple’s 26-year commitment with us in placing student writers center stage guarantees that these workshops deliver a uniquely inspiring annual theatrical event. We recognize the friendship, contributions and talents of Bob Hedley, Doug Wager, Peter Reynolds, Matthew Miller, John Hoey, Andrew Laine and Marka Suber, and all the students and staff of Temple’s Theater Department. Young Playwrights also thanks InterAct Theatre’s Seth Rozin, Anneliese Van Arsdale and Dwight Wilkins for their terrific collaboration on the Young Voices Monologue Festival, for 2014 a Knight Foundation Challenge grant winner! Join us for all Young Playwrights’ presentations this 25th Anniversary Season: see more at www.phillyyoungplaywrights.org. Join us in congratulating and supporting our compelling young playwrights! We couldn’t be prouder of them or more delighted that you are here to respond to their work. Each young playwright – and every young person – has something to say worth hearing.
