FIRST AID IN YOUR WORKPLACE Compliance Every workplace in Australia is covered by a legislated requirement to have appropriate first aid available and accessible for all employees. In many situations trained first aiders must also be available to cover all shifts. The onus of this responsibility falls upon the employer to ensure adequate first aid is available for potential emergencies that may arise.
What constitutes a workplace? Most would readily identify an office, warehouse, manufacturing facility or a construction site as workplaces but don’t forget work vehicles such as trucks, delivery vehicles and company cars also constitute a workplace and require appropriate first aid to be on board.
First aid site assessment No two workplaces are the same, and therefore it is important to assess your workplace hazards to determine what your specific first aid needs are. See the table below for an example.

FIRST AID IN YOUR WORKPLACE First Aid Kits - What kit do you need? Basic compliance is the starting point for many workplaces. To make it easy Brady has divided our workplace range into 3 categories that align with current state and territory Standards.
Level 1 Construction and high risk sites up to 25 employees or low risk sites with up to 100 employees
Level 2 Construction and high risk sites over 25 or low risk sites with over 100 employees
Small Site & Vehicle Low risk environments with up to 10 employees and vehicles.
You will be in a better position to add appropriate treatment modules to your kit to ensure you have proper coverage for specific risks that may exist in your workplace. See opposite page.
How many first aid kits do you need? Your first aid kits should be easily accessible by employees and preferably available within minutes of your employees work stations. In a very large workplace, or one spanning multiple floors, first aid may need to be available in more than one area. Ideally, first aid should be located close to all work areas where there is a likely risk of an injury occurring. For example production areas, kitchen, dispatch, office, vehicles etc. The addition of portable first aid kits will add flexibility and emergency readiness to your business environment.
Do you need a first aid room? Onsite emergency response can be enhanced with an on-site First Aid room. As a guideline a first aid room should be provided and maintained at any construction site with more than 100 persons at work, or at any other workplace at which more than 200 persons work, or at a workplace where there could be exposure to hazardous substances. Brady can help you furnish your first aid room with our expertise and wide range of first aid equipment. A Level 2 first aid kit is a good starting place with a portable Level 1 kit as a grab and go unit is ideal. We can also provide a range of ancillary first aid solutions to supplement these kits. Naturally your first aid site assessment should reveal the equipment that will best suit your workplace. See opposite page.

BURN MANAGEMENT PACKS Early intervention to cool and treat burns can help reduce the severity of the injury. Workplace hazards that may result in burn injuries need to have burn management solutions readily available to reduce delays in first aid treatment. Cool water availability is of paramount importance.
