Fall 2023 Dear Girls Soccer Players, Families, Friends, and Supporters, Welcome to the fall sports season! As we start this 41st school year and soccer season at PVI, may we all give thanks to God for the many blessings He has given us. Let us all strive to live the school motto to “Grow in Grace and Wisdom.” May this season be energetic, competitive, healthy, and safe as our wonderful athletes strive for excellence in soccer. Our patron saint, St. Francis de Sales, teaches us to “Be who you are and be that perfectly well so that you may bring honor to the Master Craftsman whose handiwork you are.” May the joy of the Gospel be alive in the joy of soccer! To our wonderful student-athletes: as you show good sportsmanship and love of soccer, may you always strive for the extraordinary on the soccer field each and every day! May you always give thanks to God for the many talents you have and may you strive to play the game in the best way possible. May this season encourage you to grow in sportsmanship and character while always recognizing your growth as a gift from God! Let us all LIVE JESUS each and every day!

Dr. Tom Opfer, ’96 Principal

FROM THE ATHLETIC DIRECTOR… Welcome to the 2023 soccer season! We are very grateful and proud to have Chris Campbell as our Head Coach for his second year with the girls program. We are blessed to have dedicated coaches leading our student-athletes. Coaches who teach accountability, understand and encourage academic success, and work hard to build great teams based in faith. Coaches who are “teachers” and Christian leaders with character and integrity make a tremendous difference in the lives of our children. Teaching our student-athletes to be respectful and accountable is teaching them to be successful in life. We are also very fortunate to have such a strong network of support from our alumni, boosters, parents, school staff, and our overall community. No doubt about it…PVI is truly a special place. It is critical to recognize the value that athletics have as a part of the educational process, our mission and our ministry. As a college-prep school, we strive to run athletic programs that combine the right amounts of ability and desire to move to the next level in the athletic experience. A major focus of our athletic program is to help our student-athletes develop lasting life skills to use as they move on in college, in a career, as productive members of society, as husbands and wives, and as parents. When you surround a child with the gospel, discipline, integrity, and truth, you can make a difference in his or her life forever. That is the core of our mission. It is easier to build boys and girls, than it is to mend men and women. Finally, I'd like to remind all of our spectators to be "good sports." Let the coaches coach and let the players play. Create a positive environment for all involved, a place student-athletes and parents get the most out of their experiences. One where winning isn’t the only thing. One where opponents and officials are never taunted or humiliated. An environment where the emphasis is on positive relationships and learning important life lessons through hard work, competition, and faith. It is an honor and a privilege to serve as the Director of Athletics at PVI. I am humbled by our community’s sense of togetherness. We are truly ALL IN! #ALLINPVI.

GO PANTHERS !

William H. Emerson III, RAA Director of Athletics

MEET THE COACHES Coach Chris Campbell — Head Coach

Coach Campbell is in his second season with the PVI Girls Soccer program, arriving at PVI with twenty-five years of head-coaching experience at the high school, club, Super-Y, and WPSL levels, having coached hundreds of student-athletes. His club coaching experience includes teams for Loudoun Soccer, Southwestern Youth Association (now Virginia Valor), and Old Dominion Football Club with both the girls and the boys teams. He spent three years as the first head coach of the Cesena USA Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) team competing with teams from across the Eastern United States with college players from local universities, as well as five years as the head coach of the Nova FC/Virginia Alliance Super-Y team, starting with U-13G. He is also the head coach of the Freedom High School Girls Soccer program. He brings academy and development-level coaching experience from U-13 through U-21. Coach Campbell has coached players who have continued their playing careers in college at all levels, D1-D3. Coach Campbell is a USSF-licensed coach, holds various coaching certifications/ diplomas, and has a degree from the University of Virginia. Coach Campbell lives in South Riding, VA with his wife Lori. They have four adult children, all who have been active in high school and collegiate sports.

Coach Kim Kammerdeiner — Varsity Asst. Coach/Goalkeeper Coach

Coach Kim Kammerdeiner is entering her fourth year as Goalkeeper Coach for Paul VI. She was a four-year starting goalkeeper & member of the 1985 George Mason University women’s soccer National Championship team. She was also a member of the 1991 Women’s National World Cup Team. Kim has also been a soccer coach for 35 years, and has coached all levels of youth players, from elementary school to national team programs. Her most recent club experience was as the director of goalkeeper training with McLean’s ECNL & Academy teams. Kim’s proudest achievement is her family; she is a mother of four and has three grandchildren!

Coach Sarah Verdis — Varsity Asst. Coach/Recovery, Mobility, and Nutrition

Coach Verdis is a high school health and physical education teacher and varsity soccer coach. She has been in education and coaching for seven years. Coach Verdis specializes in post-game recovery and mobility training for athletes, utilizing her background in health and physical education, personal training, and yoga. Coach Verdis is in her second year with Paul VI Girls Soccer, and she is excited to be a member of the Panther family! 13

MEET THE COACHES Coach Natalie McCarthy — Varsity Asst. Coach/Strength and Conditioning Coach

Coach McCarthy is a Paul VI Class of 2016 alumna and former collegiate soccer player. Coach McCarthy played club soccer for Coach Campbell during her high school years. This is her second year on the coaching staff at Paul VI. Coach McCarthy is a personal trainer specializing in sports performance training and is also the fall season assistant strength and conditioning coach at Paul VI. She works full-time for the American Psychiatric Nurses Association and has a background in business and communications. Coach McCarthy is excited to be at PVI as a Panther again!

Coach Noelle Nicholas — JV Head Coach

Coach Nicholas is in her first year with the Girls Soccer program at PVI as the head junior varsity coach. With 10 years of coaching experience, she has worked with a range of club and academy programs including Southwestern Youth Association (now Virginia Valor), New River United and Soccer Academy. She also teaches biology, chemistry and ACE at PVI. At Virginia Tech, she studied the science of human nutrition, foods and exercise. Fun facts: She was a four-year collegiate athlete; however, she was the HokieBird mascot, not a soccer player. Coach Nicholas has experience working with professional sports organizations such as the NFL, NHL and MLB. You just might catch her at your favorite DC sports games!

Coach Brooke Longo — JV Asst. Coach

Coach Longo is in her first year on the PVI Girls Soccer staff. She played soccer at Frostburg State University for four years, and has coached multiple levels throughout her soccer career, spending ten years coaching with Champion Soccer Training and coaching as a graduate assistant at Frostburg State University. She works locally as a professional firefighter/EMT, a fitness and wellness coach for the department, and the head strength and conditioning coach for Stronger LLC. Coach Longo is very excited to be a part of the PVI Girls Soccer program!
