“Deep Water Cay is unique in the world of shallow water fishing... steeped in history and human resources through generations and deeply imbedded in my heart. I never tire of pushing away from her dock! ~ Flip Pallot Acclaimed Angler, Author and TV Personality

Deep Water Cay

The thrill of the catch

In 1958, an iconic angler and an unorthodox fishing guide were searching for the ultimate bonefishing location. What A.J. McClane and Gil Drake found was a pristine cay in the Bahamas — a treasure trove of game fish and the most bountiful bonefish spot they had ever encountered. Since the two avid fishermen established Deep Water Cay, it has drawn in generations of anglers and adventurers seeking an escape to a simpler kind of paradise.

Acquired by new ownership in 2009, Deep Water Cay has evolved into a casual luxury resort. With enhancements to the island lodge, spa, fishing boats, homes, and more, it has gained the attention of discerning travelers looking for an ultra-private 5-star experience, but one with a relaxed feel. This unique cay is reached by private aircraft or private water taxi, and once you arrive there is plenty to do. With an abundance of recreation options, a top-rated staff, authentic Bahamian cuisine, and unbelievable fishing, it’s no wonder that our visitors come back year after year.

The Island Life A typical day on Deep Water Cay is anything but. The pace of life on the cay is most likely a far cry from what you’re used to. Time moves here at the pace of a salty breeze. The unique environment of Deep Water Cay provides activities for whatever pace you want to keep: if you’re looking for sport you can busy your day with the fishing guides along our saltwater flats. When you’re just

looking to relax and admire the turquoise water, then our infinity pool will provide the perfect vantage point. If you’re traveling with kids, there is no safer place to let them run loose. The tight-knit community, attentive staff, and island transportation limited to bicycles and golf carts ensure a safe atmosphere. Young guests can learn fly-fishing and diving or explore the island on their own kind of treasure hunt.

Deep Water Cay welcomes all kinds of people to relax and enjoy its sport and beauty. When you step onto the island, you’ll not only become a guest, but you will become a part of a heritage that’s as native as the salt and sand of the Bahamas.

Get Lured In Though Deep Water Cay has activities for every interest, what we’re best known for is superlative flats fishing. The world’s most famous anglers frequent the cay to indulge in their greatest passion.

When it comes to having the right person at your side for fishing, our guides are the best in the business. Whether you’re trying your hand at bonefishing for the first time or you’re an old pro, you will appreciate their knowledge, helpfulness, and genuine enthusiasm. These seasoned experts know the best spots and the smartest strategies — and how to help you catch the big fish. Their passion for the sport is undeniable and thoroughly contagious.

The island boasts access to 250 square miles of bonefish and permit flats, with ecosystems ranging from saltwater lakes and mangrove shorelines to hard-packed sand and turtle grass. Among these diverse fishing spots, a number of creeks and channels run south to north, providing tidal variations of at least two hours that expand the opportunities for a variety of fishing options.

If you’re interested in offshore, nothing beats the excitement of reeling in wahoo, tuna, mahi mahi, and billfish from our 33-foot World Cat.

When you’re looking for top-notch gear, our Pro Shop is fully stocked with the best rods, reels, clothing, and accessories. You’ll find everything you need for a successful day of fishing.

For reef fishing, board the 24-foot Grady White with the whole family, kids included, for a day of bountiful fun less than a mile offshore. The grouper, snapper, and barracuda

bite all year long and practically catch themselves. Heading for the flats? Our fleet of Hell’s Bay skiffs, poled by our on-staff guides, will handle every water and weather condition. Along with bonefish, a day’s catch often includes permit, barracuda and even mutton snapper on the fly. Want to stay close to home? Our beachfront cottages let you walk outside and wade right into the water for instant fishing gratification.

“ I’ve never seen a place with such big bonefish. 8-9 pounders are pretty regular. Well, you see ‘em, you don’t necessarily catch ‘em.”

“ Here at Deep Water Cay it’s been a day of seeing the emerald blanket of the sea lying rumpled over the bed of a marled bottom. Of wading into the watery elements chasing ghostly flashing silver scaled sides and dusky fins. Of outwitting creatures who’ve witnessed a hundred million years of earth’s history and more often being outwitted by them. And now, it can only be told that more days perhaps like this lie ahead.” ~Tom Brokaw Journalist, Author
