Factors Affecting Encoding in LTM • It is clear from our own experience that material can be represented in other ways as well. • Our ability to recognise sounds such as police sirens and telephones ringing shows that we can store material in acoustic form. • We can also easily bring to mind pictorial images of people or places, which suggests some visual coding in LTM. • It seems that the type of stimulus material can affect the way we encode in LTM.
