A consummate cruiser, Jack and his wife Craig made innumerable trips up and down the Atlantic seaboard. Sometimes he would be in a hurry to get somewhere, but the times he and Craig remembered best were the times they could slow down and enjoy the trip. These were the “luxury trips” where they had the luxury to go slow and explore. His love of exploring our waterways led them to buy the Waterway Guide in 2002. Jack would always share his knowledge and experience with all of us whenever he had the chance. He wanted everyone to be able to enjoy the waterways and found in the cruising guides the vehicle to make this happen. Along the way he created a team of dedicated on-the-water cruising editors who shared his love for exploring the waterways. Jack passed away in February after a lengthy battle with cancer. Many of us cruisers here on the Bay knew of Jack and Craig because they produced the most comprehensive cruising guides for the Bay and

beyond. I would like to share with you some words and thoughts of some of his team. “As a Cruising Editor for Waterway Guide since 2006, I’ve come to know and admire Jack and Craig. Jack was the driving force that brought the Guides and other publications to the high standard and respect they now enjoy. Our deepest sympathies and prayers to you and your family, Craig, from Carol and me. “Bob Kunath, Lake Michigan “Jack Dozier’s family, his friends, and the boating world has lost a wonderful and caring person. Jack Dozier was a lifelong boater and was willing to share his vast knowledge of the Chesapeake Bay and the Intracoastal Waterway with anyone who asked. We felt privileged to have been employed by him, and he was also a special friend. He will be remembered and missed by everyone who knew him!” Bud and Elaine Lloyd, Florida and Gulf Coast

“You never forget the people who give you a break in life, and for me, that was Jack Dozier. He opened doors and gave me opportunities that will last my lifetime. Jack brought out the best in people and inspired them to succeed. Whether he knew it or not, I always saw Jack as a mentor, as someone to look up to in both professional and personal life. He was a great businessman, and an even better family man. He leaves behind a remarkable legacy, and will be sorely missed by so many. We are all so very fortunate to have known him.” Michael Kucera – Atlantic Coast, Maine to Florida This summer when you are out cruising and you find a new place, think of Jack. This is what he wanted for you, for us; to go farther and enjoy it more. His spirit will be there.
