COMENIUS 2009-2011

Students discovered the sea connection to your countries and compiled a chronicle of these connections. They discussed the results: commerce and exploration were the reasons of contact.

Not being permitted to move children to the local port, representatives of port police authorities came to school. 1) They named the ports and harbours, 2) described the mobility at the port 3) listed the vessels reaching it and their destinations.

Then students created a poster portraying the results of the discussion.

Students interviewed a seaman, who talked to us about his training and the life on board.

We interviewed a local seaman who listed the types of ship one can find on Kalymnos and the type of fishing they are used for.

Then students took pictures of various boats.

• Students visited the local

harbour and asked various fishermen about fishing techniques and fishing equipment. • They took pictures of them and created posters and a booklet with information about them.

To take it further we visited a local octopus fisherman who talked to us about octopus catching equipment and taught us how to make one.

Students collected photos of Kalymnos in all seasons which a colleague put together in a short film. Next, students of 6th class talked about touristic mobility in all seasons and listed all the changes occurring on the island because of tourism.

-I would like to thank my director and all my colleagues for their cooperation.

-Million thanks though to Mr. Boutkaris and Mrs Papanikolaou for their valuable help and support.
