Iceland


We learned about Iceland… Iceland is an island in North Europe , in the North Atlantic ocean.

It is situated among Greenland , Scotland and Norway. It has a population of about 320,000 ,a total area of 103,000 square kilometres , and the capital city is Reykjavík. Iceland is the 18th biggest island in the world , and the second biggest in Europe , after Great Britain.


 The official language is Icelandic.  The currency is the Icelandic króna (ISK).

 Their flag’s colors are blue , red and white.


Reykjavík is quite close to the Arctic Circle.


Iceland’s most important monument is the church Hallgrímskirkja.


ď ś In its 4,970 km-long coastline, there are a lot of fjords.


ď śThere are also many geysers in Iceland, including Geysir and the famous Strokkur, which erupts every 5–10 minutes.


Iceland is full of wonderful lakes.


There are also a lot of volcanoes , one of which , Hekla, is still active!


If we are lucky, we may see the beautiful Aurora Borealis in the night sky



Some famous Icelanders include the singer Björk, the rock band Sigur Rós ,and the writer Halldór Laxness, who received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1955.


Most of Iceland's cuisine is based on fish, lamb, and dairy products.
