SHELTERS WITHOUT WALLS In the few minutes that it will take to read this leaflet thousands of acres of critical wildlife habitats across Australia will have been lost or degraded. Protecting and preserving our country’s streams, deserts, grasslands, forests and wetlands is essential to the survival of all wildlife. Every acre left unexploited safeguards wildlife that desperately needs our help to survive. Private landholders with a concern for wildlife and habitat protection are therefore in the unique and important position of being able to make a very real contribution to conservation efforts in Australia. The role of private lands has now become both an essential and integral part of the solution to this nation-wide problem. For landowners who wish to ensure that animals on their lands are protected from development, illegal hunting and other threats, regardless of whether they are threatened or endangered, the Wildlife Land Trust (WLT) is a perfect fit. Humane stewardship is the hallmark of our Trust. If you have a “bit of bush” you would like to protect, no matter how small or large (maybe a back block on your farm) we would love to hear from you. EXPRESSION OF INTEREST If you are interested in becoming part of this growing network of sanctuaries or would like more information please complete and return this form to Humane Society International at the contact details below. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Humane stewardship is the hallmark of our Trust.

HOW TO JOIN THE WILDLIFE LAND TRUST The WLT site at www.hsi.org.au provides information on the Australian WLT program (click on Wildlife Land Trust on left of front page). If you would like to register your property with the WLT, you can access a downloadable PDF “application form” on the website, which can then be sent directly to us in Sydney, or fill out the “expression of interest form”, attached to this brochure. Joining the WLT starts with a non-binding ‘letter of agreement’ which spells out our joint commitment to protecting wildlife on your sanctuary, followed by a certificate of membership, regular newsletters and news items, signs for your property and further advice on stronger protection methods for your property if you require it. Your sanctuary will also be featured on the members’ page of the WLT website and in the Australian WLT newsletters, enabling you to share with a like-minded network of worldwide sanctuary owners, the important conservation work you are undertaking for wildlife and habitats in Australia. Joining the WLT is entirely voluntary, with no legal obligations or costs involved.

The Wildlife Land Trust was established in Australia by Humane Society International (HSI) in 2007. The Wildlife Land Trust offers the opportunity for sanctuary owners to further contribute to critical conservation programs through membership of a national and global wildlife sanctuary network. The Wildlife Land Trust helps protect not only large and impressive landscapes, but also the smaller, humbler places – remnant native grasslands, wetlands and woodlands etc – that provide for the needs of wildlife. There are currently over 150 WLT sanctuaries covering approximately 1.8 million acres, with members in Australia, USA, Canada, Romania, Belize, Jamaica, South Africa and Indonesia.
