Maverick Engineering has been on a steady path of expansion since being established in 2013. The company started with four employees, growing to over 25 personnel between two workshops. Maverick Engineering began by serving the food, oil & gas sectors, with individuals who have worked for over 30 years in these fields. Using this knowledge, the company has expanded into what it is today: offering support and advice on projects to clients, overcoming any problems that may arise within the engineering industry.

It excels in engineering turnkey projects – encompassing complete pipework installs on new and existing factories, fabrication and installation of food processing

equipment, mechanical services, welding of coded pipework and jointing, and commercial and domestic applications for natural gas and LPG.

Engineering expertise

Since 2019, Maverick Engineering has predominantly worked within the oil and gas industry, working closely with clients such as SMS to fabricate HPUs and skid units for various projects worldwide. Due to its expertise and reliability, Maverick Engineering’s current work scope involves the fabrication of carbon steel skids and super duplex pipework for Shell’s Jackdaw project.

This involves the potential to produce more than 6% of the UK’s gas production . It is part of a broader vision for Shell UK to invest between £20-£25 billion in the UK energy system over the next decade, 75% of which is intended for low and zerocarbon products and services.

The company has increased its workforce from the four founders to over 25 personnel. It has also engaged on many

projects for clients such as HPC, APC, XPOLogistics, Birdseye and Baker Hughes.

It is presently engaged on another SMS contract to fabricate an eightmetre stainless steel HPU unit weighing over 30 tonnes – one of the heaviest it has ever fabricated.

“The gradual expansion of Maverick Engineering is key to achieving its ambitions and goals for the next three years,” said Marketing Director Kurtis Reynolds. “We have in mind to increase our workforce to accommodate the current workload and projects. The employment of key individuals with relevant training is on the horizon and will help align with our current work ethic.”

Around 60% of its business is retained within the oil and gas sector, while it works on-site with partners such as HPC, which supplies compressed air, compressors and units.

Maverick Engineering also offers installation, planned and preventative maintenance for all makes of boilers and plants. It also has gas-safe accreditation for all commercial and industrial applications, natural and LPG. The company is also proud to be a distributor and installer of Eqofluids UK Components.

Expansion on the way

As projects have continued to roll in, Maverick Engineering has taken the necessary steps to expand its workshops to two. The plan is to offer one workshop dedicated to stainless steel and another for carbon.

The investment will further enable the company to offer in-depth knowledge and experience for various pipework systems, including steam, glycol, brine, compressed air, chemical, oil, drainage, CIP, vacuum, hygienic process and refrigeration.

Its fabrication and welding services also cover a wide range of materials, including stainless steel, carbon and exotic materials such as aluminium, copper, duplex and Cuni 90/10. It can also carry out electrofusion welding of PE and PU pipework and has expertise in structural steelwork and process pipework.

The company’s operations are all underpinned by continual investment in equipment for manufacturing metal product processes. It now has a Haco Kingland 3m x 6mm stainless steel guillotine, an Edwards 3m x 100 tonne 2 axis CNC machine, a 60-tonne metal worker, a Bomar 410-260 band Saw, other smaller equipment and a range of specialist TIG and MIG welding equipment.

Maverick Engineering is also a proud member of BSI, which has issued its ISO 9001 management certificate and BS EN 1090 execution class 2 structural steelwork certificate, with dual UKCA marking and CE marking.

Over the years, the company has obtained 20-plus welding procedures required for customer projects, including st/st 304, 316, carbon steel S275, S355, dissimilar and Super Duplex, all with a wide range of thickness.

Robust supplier network

Mr Reynolds acknowledged that Maverick Engineering is now facing down potential challenges, such as sourcing high-grade materials, components and bespoke fittings, by utilising its knowledge and vast supplier network to overcome the potential issues.

Working closely with a few leading suppliers is a big part of how the company functions to meet tight deadlines and quick turnarounds, according to Mr Reynolds: “We rely a lot on these suppliers to offer the best services they can. These services include their technical support and advice, next day (if not same day) delivery, and competitive prices.”

Environmental and climate change are also important factors to any business moving forward. “We are preparing to reduce our environmental impact by improving the dynamics of how the company is run,” Mr Reynolds explained. “We also plan to put the ISO 14001 environmental management system in place before the start of 2025.

“Preparations have already been made within the current management system, and we are confident this new addition will improve our company and reduce the impact of our carbon emissions.”

Mr Reynolds also reflected that Maverick Engineering has enjoyed seeing its workload increase over time and this growth has been punctuated with a few milestone events. One notable highlight was being published in The Parliamentary Review 2017/ 2018 for Construction and Engineering, with words from then Prime Minister Theresa May.

In conclusion, Mr Reynolds said: “With continual investment and operational expansion, Maverick Engineering is looking to achieve more milestones in the coming years.” n
